This feature is available in your imate already.
Before sending any SMS, (you are still in the writting mode of the SMS), go to "Edit", then "Otions", and then put "Tick" in the Request SMS text message delivery nofitication.
You got to do this evey time you need a delivery notification of a message.
I know.. but can it always turned on, so that we don't have to tick on that option? just like sonyericsson or nokia(the dillivery report on by its default setting).
I have been using imate for the past one year, and I'm a heavy user of SMS. I do not think this feature is available like other mobiles.
I guess we have to do it every time we send SMS!
this file may help you the make the sms dilivery report ON , I'hv tryied it on Imate PDA2
If you do it from within the messaging App, don't start a message.
Menu - Tools - Options, select "Text Messages" and then tick the box, it will stay checked for all messages. Been using this for ages on my Trinity.

Hello, I´m trying to kill by code the notification popup bubble that is shown when you receive a new sms message, just inmediatly when it appears
Is it possible ??
Thanks in advance
This is a problem that the SMS app should clean up. Basically, the sms notification messages tell the phone to do things. For example the message to turn on the new SMS indicator is a blank text message with a subject of
Voice Mail
From
"Voice Mail System" . <[email protected]>
The SMS application should delete it afterward. After Talking to a smart guy from T-mobile Wireless Data group I also learned that this is a function of the Glenair voicemail system. Some upgrades cause it to send these messages as I did NOT get them in the past on my Nokia 8290. Some handsets do this automatically apparently or maybe its just something new.
Of course I may be totally wrong...
other imput appreciated.

There`s a key in the registry (HCUK/Software/Microsoft/SMS/Protocols/..) in which is defined which Application should start when a SMS arrives, standard is /windows/tmail.exe - if you change this key(s), you can redirect the SMS to other programms and the POPups are away. But be carefull: If the Application in the key don`t handle the SMS, the SMS-Text are "lost in space".
Hope that helps al little bit? ;o)

This notification you mention is specific to T-Mo and does only that, wake up. I have tried to kill this little run many times with no avail. For some reason the 2003 OS's except 4.00.10 do not have this as a default. I did not do a system snap in between upgrades, wish I did then I could finally tell what little bastard does this and kill it in future versions if I or other US users are happy being notified only once instead of twice by two different methods that they have a flippin' Voicemail
On MDA there's an Option to turn off the Bubble (but there's also an envelope on top of the screen.
Start->Settings->Sounds&Notifications->Notifications->Post: New SMS
If you remove the hook on "Show Message" further on there is no bubble again

During SMS composition, go to the Edit menu, select 'Options...' and then check 'Request SMS text message delivery notification'
Don't have this option??
Running WM2003 (TMO ROM4.01.00, RS6.24.01) and from today screen, New->SMS Message->Edit doesn't give me a check box for SMS delivery notification??? What software/version are you running to have this feature?

Other option that works for me on TMobile is put "*noti#" in the beginning of the message.
Thanks for the info, I would never have found that myself
NP....hope it works for ya.....
Does anyone know how to keep the sms delivery notification always on by default?
Nope, wish we could find a reg hack or something to add that line to the message automatically for us....
i am running 4.01.00 on orange and when i send an sms i get an sms delivered notification as an sms icon.
If you are on O2, the network doesn't support SMS Delivery Reports so even if the option on the handset was available, you would only get a Pending notice.
If you are on O2 payg just put *0# in the subject line and you will receive sms delivery notification. I just need a way of doing that automatically.
O2 Delivery reports
But if you use *0# people won't be able to reply to your texts! They will have to compose a new text rather than just hitting "reply"... very odd!
The notification can be requested with my t-mobile German machine in "bearb" / "optionen" - might be "edit" / "options" on an English machine.
Try this..

Hi,
I like sending SMS-messages... I also like to know when my recipient gets my message.
When I use "Edit" - "Options", I can check "Request SMS text message delivery notification"... Then I receive a notification when my message arrive.
How can I set this always on? With every message I need to re-check this!
Is there any registry-hack I can perform?
Thanks in advance!

EXACTLY MY PROBLEM!
CAN ANYBODY HELP?
Same here, anybody know of a 3rd party app that will solve this?
I do know that MS have FINALLY addressed this in their lastest Smartphone the SPV C500. All models before this one were like the XDA II, no delivery notifications.
Let's hope it get's addressed soon on PPC windows mobile 2003 SE!
SAME PROBLEM but i use extended phone this solves the notification & the redialing problem but the program is discusting
it's not a solution to the problem but it's what I've started doing as a marginally quicker workaround.
see the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12352&highlight=
I had to do the above because ticking the box didn't actually mean I got a delivery notification msg.
hope you find a proper solution sometime
hii all,
i have just bought an o2 xda2 last week, i oftenly recieved double delivery report when i am sending a short message. i think that something error with my cell phone provider. but as i check and recheck, i found out that my xda2 sent the message twice (although i just only click the "sent" button once), and i'm loosing twice credit on it. sigh...
anybody having the same problem as mine? any solution?
and second.. i'm wondering if i can make delivery report activated as default.. ? thx 4 the reply..
Are you using a memory manager like Battery Pack, Pocket Plus etc?
These can be set to close an application, rather then send to the background. What can happen, is that you send an SMS, then close Inbox before it has verified the message send, so next time you open it, it sends again.
If you do use a mem manager, remember to wait a few seconds before closing Inbox, or set the manager to meinimise Inbox rather than close it.
The only foolproof way to request delivery reports is by putting *0# thena space before the text of any message. This does reduce the available message by 4 characters, but is a universal command. (set *0# as a setting in My Text)
Hello, forgive my newbie ignorance please.
I have a new O2 Hermes, which I have flashed to Cingular:
RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship
I have attempted the QWERTY-QWERTZ registry fix, but am not yet successful (no big problem).
What is vexing me is that Messaging will not display incoming SMS -- inbox is always empty, but the Start menu says I have Text Messages Unread.
I am also unable to send SMS -- I press 'SEND' and the message sits in the outbox forever -- no error message. I know my SMS gateway is configured correctly, and I can't see anything else to configure except Unicode support.
I also know my account is set up for SMS because I can put my SIM in a conventional handset and it works in and outbound.
My colleague who has the identical Xda with the identical ROM does not have this problem.
Any ideas?
/PhM
is the inbox for the email or the sms or outlook...etc ?
seems simple but I can't find any other reason, there are a couple of inboxes check to see which one you're currently at you can switch through them,
seeing as it says you have unread messages I assume sms is working fine.
Messages clarification
when I click on the 'Text Messages: 8 unread', the device goes to 'Text Messages'
header is 'Inbox' and 'Received'.
the screen is blank exept for the footer 'Text Messages 0 items.
If I click on 'Inbox', I see the different folders 'MMS' (empty), 'Outlook 'Email' (which has the working outlook stuff), and 'Text Messages', which has 'Inbox' empty and 'Outbox' (1) -- the message that refuses to be sent.
It is bizarre behaviour.
I can't send MMS either; composed and 'sent' but stuck in outbox with an envelope+Xsymbol.... (but MMS is more complicated, and not as important to me)
go to messages,
click on menu/tools options,
what accounts do you have there?
you might need to setup a new text message account although it should be there automatically you might need to change the service number.
Hi Phm,
Sound like your SMS center number is not set right - could be wrong but check it here > Start > Settings > Personal > Phone - On the services tab click 'Voice Mail and Text Messages' > Get Settings. The numbers returned should be those as used by your network...
Gav.
Hi Gavin, Hi Darky.
My Messages:toolsptions has accounts:
* Text Messages
MMS
New Account....
text messages only has option 'unicode y/n'.
settingshone:voicemail/text shows:
Text message service centre: +1 (705) 796-9300
Voice Mail: +1 9604) 418-3471
which are correct for Rogers.
for giggles I retype the SMSc entry.
in PHM regedit (not the same PhM ;-) )
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS contains Datagram, Status and TextShared, all empty.
System\State\Messages contains
OtherEmail\Unread (Count:6)
SMS\Unread (count 8, Text 'Text Messages...'
sync (name activesync, unread count 0)
TotalEmail\Unread (count 6)
Vmail line1,2, total (unread count 0)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
comm\cellular\SMS\Protocols\Notification
AppName tmail.exe
and a bunch of other parameters
subtlety: some of the entries point to AppName tmail.exe and others point to \Windows\tmail.exe. (explicit path)
Can I assume there's a path similar to old desktop windows?
HKLM\comm\cellular\SMS\Router and Store are empty.
that's all I see in the registry that might be relevant.
HKLM\Services\SMSReciever looks in order.
Next thing I'll try is reflash the system. But that's a bit like trying to start the car with one foot on the ground.
Hi,
In mine I can see and read SMS, but can't send. Today I found the reason is probably that I got a 32kb SIM' card. My operator is sending me a 64kb. 128kb do also exist.
Not sure this can be linked to your issue though...
SIM size and SMS?
Hi Prerna, interesting idea.
what makes it weird is that I was able to send and receive messages with the 'old' O2 flash. SMS broke when I loaded the Cingular flash I am still using my old Rogers SIM (vintage 2003 or so).
Maybe it's time to upgrade.
/PhM
re-flash helps
Well, I spent an hour, downgraded to the original O2 ROM, then upgraded to the Cingular ROM, and now SMS works again.
I have not yet tried to do the registry tweaks to restore the QWERTZ keyboard.
I wonder if maybe I accidentally broke something when I was poking around in the registry.
For now, SMS is working and that's the main thing

I am now able to send SMS.
Hello,
I've an issue like this:
I could send and recived SMS but some SMS don't work (the one who tell me I've a message)
and apparently it's a know issue from my provider ...
just happened to me too. i have removed sim. put in other fone sent and received one sms. put it back in to my hermes and it started to work :S
i had such problem too until i uninstall the sunnysoft vcard software. After that sms goes fine.
Text Message: 6 Unread - but no messages
There are 6 unread text messages on my today screen but when I highlight it to view it, there are no messages to be read. I keep getting text messages and the counter just adds up but there are no messages at all.
Anyone have any ideas how to solve this? Your help is highly appreciated, thanks!

Hi
You can try the following application. It removes spurious unread message count from the today screen and resets it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32766&d=1167695488
However - I am curious, is it the case that genuine messages are being received but that you just can't view them?
Mike
I had the same problem when I upgraded to any of the WM6 Roms, some days smses worked and others it would just store the smses in the outbox and if someone sent me a sms my phone display would come on but wouldn't indicate a sms, yet my friend would get a delivery report, so all i did was just downgarde to the latest WM5 Rom and problem solved.
