I have just bought an XDA II and would like to connect to the internet for free with it. I have wifi in the house, but I believe that there isn't a wifi card for the XDA II yet. I also have a Toshiba laptop which has bluetooth and infra red. I would like to use the bluetooth to connect to the net if possible, otherwise the infra red would do. Does anybody know if this is possible? or even better, how it is done?
Thanks
Allan
Setup active sync and internet connection:

There are wifi cards for XDAII - do a google search
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=WLAN6060
That first link looks helpful, but I do not have "bluetooth manager" on my XDA II. Is this extra software I need? If so, where can I get it - google didnt return any relevant hits (
Thanks

Internet via Bluetooth
Hello.
Try the "Passthrough" option in your ActiveSync settings. Once you've enabled this option, your PDA should use the internet (network) connection of your desktop-pc through ActiveSync.
By the way: I'm still looking for a bluetooth-dongle, for using the passthrough-option, the same way, as you described. Is there any special bluetooth-standart for the dongle, I have to look for? I'm asking because I'm a little bit afraid, that the whole bluetooth-connection doesn't work, with the "wrong" dongle.
Thanks much.
I have a Belkin Bluetooth dongle that I am going to try the activesync with later tonight when I get home from work. If it works, I can reply to this post if you like and let you know the model number of it ?
Rgds,
Rob.
Hi
Thanks, working now

only a £10 + Postage of £3.00
And works perfect

Hi there.. a lovely site.. oh I've have my XDA2 for 4 months and am still totally impressed by it, so much so, I got "her" one as well!!!
I am having a few problems.. mostly related to my newbie status!
1. Can I use the XDA2 to view web pages, using bluetooth to access my pc's broadband connection.
2. If this is only possible with a wifi card: is it possible to get one that allows me to use my existing 512mb sd card at the same time
3. My better half's XDA2 keeps connecting to GPRS to update new stories it has already stored in memory from USB docking (Journal Bar)
I'll leave you with these for now.. Thanks a bundle!!
If you have BT on your PC then it's no problem to browse the web, just set-up Active-Sync over BT and then sync and then you can launch IE on the XDA and browse away!

here is a guide to activesync'ing with bluetooth it of cause require a bluetooth dongle on the pc
and the option in activesync to let the pda use the connection

well it is possible but i do think they are making some wifi cards with onboard flash ram on aswell otherwise you could get the backpack and use CF flash ram

if you go into today in settings and choose journalbar you can set how often it should go online up update this may be a good idear since otherwise it will update stock info every 3mins
Okay, I've searched for several hours so I don't act like a true newbie and ask a dumb question that's been asked a hundred times, but I can't find anything definite on this, so here goes.
I have a new Cingular 8525 and have Cingular's PDA Connect Unlimited data plan. I am in a 3G area. I have an out of the box phone with Windows Mobile 5 with no ROM updates or hacks on it.
I would like to take my laptop in the car and hook my phone to it and have my laptop use the 3G connection that my phone is providing. I know you can setup a modem connection, and I've done that, but it only connects at 115k, which is the fastest setting the modem driver and bluetooth dongle have listed. I would like to be surfing on my laptop at the 3G speeds.
I know there are implications where Cingular may or may not charge me, because I am supposed to possibly have something called the Laptop Connect plan, but lets assume that's not an issue.
Also, whichever way is easiest, I can either use my USB cord to tether my phone and laptop together or use my Bluetooth on my laptop and connect that way.
Anyone have the steps on how to make this work?
Thanks
Did you ever get this working?
I have almost the same situation: a Tom Tom GO 720 device that will talk to the 8525's Handsfree service via Blue Tooth, but says that the phone is not advertising the DUN service.
Got it working
I did two things to make it work.
First, I got Internet Sharing working by using the cabinet called UPRREY-ICS[1].cab that you can find on this forum site. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1564979#24. This will install a link to the Internet Sharing application and show it under Programs.
That made my laptop able to use the GPRS connection. This uses the Bluetooth PAN to tether the laptop and the phone. (but be careful - your plan might not allow large data transfers).
Second, I found two files, also on this forum site, called WM6_DUN.zip (or separately as BT_DUN.cab) and MODEMLINK.zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=314371
MODEMLINK.zip has a .rgu file in it that I didn't have to mess with .. I just copied the other files to the windows directory and restarted.
Now my TomTom GO 710 finds the handsfree connection, the phonebook/object connection, and the DUN service so it can get on the internet when it needs to.
Thanks to URPREY, The.Drone, and MUN for their previous posts. You rock.
Hi
I have a tomtom gps 720 that I am trying to conntect to a HTC touch diamond, downloaded the software and have placed it into my windows directory etc.. which seems to have helped as it now shows on my tomtom that my phone supports wireless data transfers, the problem I am having now is when putting the setting in the tomtom for the wireless settings my mobile of phone does not appear so I am getting up to 65% through setting it up before I run into a wall....
any further ideas?
I would suggest using the data cable method without bluetooth headaches. Diamond has a ver poor battery, so when ised with USB cable it can stay alive but ultimately your laptop battery is drained
Diamond should have built-in internet connection sharing option. Does the prompt that appears when connecting to PC have that? If not try the HTCtoUSB PopUp cabs taken from Raphel.
Regards,
Carty..
I have no problem connecting the htc diamind or the tomtom go 720 to the PC, I'm just trying to get the wireless data to work so I can send and receive text messages through the TomTom.
I need to find the best possible laser color printer
Hello, I need to find the best possible laser color printer at the lowest possible price. I need to prints lots of documents black and white, flyers with a few photos on them, color posters and etc. So I would like to have both of best worlds and have some great photo quality and print the most pages per toner cartridges. Can anyone help me basically find a good all around color laser printer that has full ink toner and not so expensive?
HI, i just recently got the htc xv6900 from verizon, but i didn't get the internet plan. Is their any way for me to get internet through bluetooth or anything else? Any answer would help thanks
Anyone? plzzzzzz
Not that I know of.
you're not asking if you can be online when active syncing are you which you can. There's ways to active sync through blue tooth and I'd guess you can be online that way also but I haven't done it.
i have the sprint version (basically the exact same unit) with evdo service, but when i dont want to use it, i active sync via BT to my computer -- which has inet connection.
once the connection is established, then yes, u can get internet on the vogue. other than that, no other real way i guess...
for the activ sync could you guys tell me step by step how to do this? and my computer comes with bluetooth so i don't need a dongle right? OO and thanks for the replyes
No internet plan
You could also buy a microsd card that is a wifi adapter. Unless someone has cooked a rom that unlocks the WIFI capabilities
set the active sync to com7 and have ur BT dongle connect to ur fone.
thanks for the respons i will try it out as soon as possible
There is no wifi on the cdma vogue
Alright now i just got the usb sync with the xv6900 and i got internet. So i decided to use the bluetooth, but i was wrong: i don't have bluetooth on my desk top so i'm soon going to go to staples to buy a bluetooth adapter. I'll keep you guys updated. THANKS for all your help guys.
WOW guys!!! THanks for all of your advicess. I got the D-link Bluetooth Adapter DBT-120 for 30 bucks. And WOW it works. Not only is the internet fast, but it's free. I just plugged it in and installed in my besktop (with the given CD) and BAM it works. On the program just set it to recieve any invite. So far i've been to pocket youtube, and weather bug. Do you guys know off any good sites for games and wat not?? Thanks
hi,
does anybody know if we can use internet from pc on the x1 via bluetooth...
i tried finding on google but in vain...can anybody help me regarding this...
ps: i am aware that we can use internet connection via usb cable...what i want to know is that can we use it via bluetooth...and whats the procedure...
thanks in advance...
so many views and no replies???
i really only think it will work the other way around. if you have 3g using the x1 as a bluetooth modem so you can get internet on your pc. unless you have a highspeed internet connection on your pc that isn't already wireless, in which case you can buy a usb wifi adapter for pretty cheap. i dunno if this was any help...
bleh. disregard most of that. i'm sleepy... i only read half. yes it is possible to use your phone as a bluetooth modem though
thanks dude...
the thing is that i hav a really fast pc connection and its cheap...whereas the phone internet service is costly...so i was just wondering if its possible...(net fron pc to phone via bluetooth)
thanks anyways...cheers
Actually there is a way.....
If you establish an bluetooth active-sync connection.
You should be able to surf the net via the bluetooth connection...
But it is still more efficient to go by wi-fi....
Stuart
awesome dude...ill check it rightaway..thanks
doesnt work...detects the serial port..but connection fails..
I know that with Palm OS PDA we used Mocha PPP, perhaps you can give it a try.
Else perhaps an adhoc connection if you want to try Wifi.
yes being connected to activesync with bluetooth give the phone the network access of the pc
been doing it since i had an old wm2003 device
or you can do this if you dont want to use activesync

Try initial the BT detection from yr PC (or the other way as I don't remember.). The "serial port" will be replaced w/ ActiceSync eventually.
It does work but it depends on your contract
The carrier company can tell if you are browsing through your phone or using internet sharing. I am on O2 and it does not have this, but if I put my T-Mobile sim card in, it works fine. PC's use higher bandwidth and this costs the mobile companies.
If you want to use it, I recommend using the USB lead as bluetooth and 3G connection will abuse your battery.
To use, press start, programs internet sharing. You can only use it if you have activesync on your pc, USB mode is activesync and your mobile provider lets you.

danjwalker
he want to do the opposite he want to surf using his computers internet not
letting his computer use his phone internet
so i was right the first time. all he needs is a usb wifi adapter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Wi-Fi_USB_Connector
something kind of like that
and you won't even have to use bluetooth after you set it up. just turn on your wifi in the comm manager

This method may not work anymore since PAN client is being removed in recent WM release. You may need to try this to get PAN client working. I posted my working experience over there w/ my Att tilt. But this method require a lot more effort to get it working compare to activesync.
yeah... you guys are backwards on this

why would anyone want to buy additional hardware when it "should" be possible to use the current internet connection on your PC over bluetooth?

i thought the bluetooth internet sharing only works one way...?
if you go to internet sharing on the phone, you choose bluetooth pan and then a connection that your phone uses to connect to the internet. that's not what he wants. someone correct me if i'm wrong and there's another way to do this bc i'm really not sure.
