Very strange,can't delete or add any file on my xda II

Strange indeed, I can't delete or add any file, when I try to do so, the small circle shows up to show that the pocket pc is working, then nothing happing it keeps going round till it blocks. I had this problem before and I solved it with a hard rest. I don't have the intention to hard reset again. Anyboby had this weird problem??

I might add that i can delete the files on my computer through activesync with no problem. I have O2 German upgraded to the T-mobile 1.60 english.. so any clues whatsoever???

What software do you have installed, I would be inclined to do a backup then hard reset, then when reinstalling software check if the problem occurs after each installation of your programs, this might pin it down to a program that is locking all files for some reason.

It seems that it happens randomly, cuz when I made a backup I didn't had this problem.Then when the problem occured I restored but the problem remailned. I have a lot of programs installed I wans doubting Microsoft voice command but the problem remailned after uninstalling it other programs(metro,tomtom 2,finger clix,fullscreen keyboard,sms writer,xcpuscalar,pocketMVP) any of these programs is known to force this problem. I don't know that any of these programs by themselves are known to cause this behavior - but sometimes combinations of programs, glitches during installations, or any of a dozen other things can cause abnormal behavior.
I would agree with cruisin-thru . . . the only way to be sure if it is one of the programs you have installed, and if so which, is to do a hard-reset and install the programs one-at-a-time, giving some time for testing between installations.

Yep - I have had and currently have the same problem.
Uninstalling programs does not help, only a hard reset and then reinstall one by one testing as you go.
I have done a hard reset in the past, but never built it back up to the same spec, so have not pin pointed an app (if it is an app)
It may help if you compare to my install list ??

I think that there is a bug which appear only when you use the SD card slot.
I've the same strange randomic problem, the workaround is:
- Remove SD Card
- Softreset
- Reinsert SD Card
At least, you don't need hard reset anymore

All I can say about that is that I use SD cards extensively, and I have never experienced the behavior that whafni77 describes. It could be . . . but I'm skeptical.

Maddoc ur the man, it really resolved the problem and u made me feel small not having thinked of that. For the rocord the only program in common with InaF is Pocket Bluetooth Tools, don't know if it has something to do with it. Thanks guys

Well Maddoc, this just goes to prove you learn something new every day!
o I tried to delete a file in File Explorer - it hung
o I killed off File Explorer from the running program list - probably not required, but just to prove the file had really been deleted
o I ejected my SD card - a very cheaply made one
o Soft Reset
o Tried to delete another file - and it worked !!
o Inserted the SD card
o Tried to delete another file - and it worked !!
I'm very happy, and the confusion as to why it is acting like this will soon disappear.

That's the good part, the bad one is that you have to pull out the SD card every single time you do a soft reset, but I'm satisfied with that until someone knows what the heck is going on.

Just to add some extra informations...
In my office there are 2 qtek2020 users, me and another friend.
The only differences between devices is that i use SD cards regulary and only my device is having this kind of problem, the frequency of this problem arises when i use TOMTOM navigator and the maps are stored in SD card.
The results are the same with my 256mb sandisk and 128mb pretec.
Seems that at some point the QTEK2020( and i think also mda/imate etc... ) is unable to "receive" file change notifications( or something like that ) and the results are:
1) You can't delete file with "file explorer"( hourglass loop )
2) If you write a new note and save it, you can't even see the note on the list !!!
3) If you install another application, the program group/start menu is not updated !!!
BTW i've just reformatted my 256mb sd card with flashformat two days ago, no problem for the moment but i'm not using navigator now...

I stand corrected! Partially anyway . . . :wink:
Since I do not use TomTom Navigator (or any other GPS software for that matter) it is conceivable that the software is corrupting the FAT on the SD card.
Have you tried using StorageTools (or other similar software) to scan (automatically fix all errors) and defrag the SD card to see if it has any effect?

Well I formatted the SD card(pdc 256) with storage tool and fixed all errors(tried fat32&16) but the problem still there. The thing remains to try is to uninstall TomTom2 along with the Gps software to see if it solves. :?:

A key point here is that even uninstalling might not solve the problem. It is a sad fact that many times when you uninstall a program, both on PCs and PPCs, it is not uncommon for registry entries to be left behind, unnecessary .dlls and other files to remain, and some files that were overwritten by newer (or older) versions to remain as well. This is why several of us have stressed hard-resetting the device . . . it is the ONLY way to be sure you are starting from a known platform.

Well finally the problem resolved. I should say the hint that mrg2003 gave is really the solution,in other words you should not format the card from the device but rather from the card reader(fat and not fat32) and bingo no more blocks. I should say this forum is great. Cheerz :lol:

I confirm, i formatted my sd with flash format... No problems at all now !!!!

I really don't understand this perfectly right! I have an SD Card and the same problem as all of you state.
What do I have to do? I use the Qtek 2020...

I formatted the sd card with a lot of tools through the Qtek, like storagetools and flash format.
Afterwards I tried to format through windows format tool!!
But none of them worked and still have the problem of the hourglass..... Can somebody help me? I have a Sandisk 256 MB Ultra II.

SD card free memory incorrect

I have a 256Mb SD card that suddenly reported itself as having only 40Mb free when the total of stored files was only 16Mb.
I had to reformat to reclaim the lost space.
Has anyone else experienced this with SD cards and, if so, what it the likely cause?

well file explore dont really display hiddenfiles so the card could have all kinds of those
other file managers like total commander display all files

hi. I don't have XDA 2 but I think it happen to most most ppc 2003 OS because you are install some software that do not fully support or not support wm 2003. ( it happen to me on h5555, h5400,e405) So you need to hard reset a few times.

Well i have a similar problem, but could solve it with a soft reset.
Now i have another problem..... I dont know how, but my card is.... i dont know how to explain. let me start from the beginning.
When i got my SPV M1000, i also got a new SanDisc SD 256 MB.
I installed cuple o programs :
PHM ( Pocket Hack Master ) main memory
Pocket Mechanic Main Memory
Stuntman Evolution Sd Card
Crazy Cart Sd Card
just to give you some exaples.
I then copyed the exe files and a X back up on my card. to have them with me if needed.
After biing happy for a half week ( experimenting with PHM and Pocket Mechanic) and a lot of playing with my device, all of a sudden, my SD card was wiped out!!!
It was all gone!!!!!
I tryed to repair/reformat/restor with pocketmechanic but nothing.
Everythin was simply not there anymore ( im talkin about 30 meg of data!!!
Active sync tells me " unavailiable " when i try to install to the SD card, and when i chose to do it anyway.... it works.
Files get istalled just fine on my card.
Now for the interessting part.
Crazy Cart just stopped working!!!
" Cannot find "crazycart" or one of its components.
Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are availiable"
is the text i get when i try to start it.
Its happenig again...... its starting to ,lose files??
has anybody expirienced the same or similar ?
is my card broken eaven though POCKETMECHANIC TELLS ME ALL IS FINE?

switichin on / miniSD card problem!

hi, i have problem with switiching on my wizard. my device just freezed and every time i try to soft reste it starts but dosnt responso/dosnt work. the only way to make it work again is to remove miniSD(2gb) and reste it againn. my wizard dosnt see what is on the card and even if it does i still cannot open any files. why is that ?? what can i do ??
in addition i can say that it has been ok so far it started to happen just like that.

Sounds like your card needs re-formatting.
Re-format is as FAT.
Unfortunately you'll loose data that you had on it. Back it up from a PC if you need to first..

yeah i also wonder how to format mini sd without card reader. Is there any program (ppc) for backup and formating card?

Download trial versions of storage tools or sktools (google them) and you will be able to format the card on your device.

2gb sandisk micro, limited file size?

Hey guys, i have a problem...
there is no one, who can help me in german boards, so i hope you can help me.
I wanted to install the german version of wikipedia on my hermes (980 mb)
I tryed to put the file via activesync on my sd card, there the error (by 50%) that the file is in use... that cant be true, cause there is no programm witch is using the file...
When i try to put the file on the card via cardreader, there is the error "the sector cant be find" (bad translation )
the funny thing is:
When i place 1.5 gb music on the card, it works... but with a 950 mb file it doent work... is there any file-size-limit or something?
I formated the card with the rescon fileexplorer, because when i format it with windows, the card only shows the space of 1 gb...
Do you have any suggestions what to do?

ive seen certain card readers than can only read SD bassed media up to 1GB in size.
anythign bigger gives odd results... (often warning the card needs a format)
i'd try a diff card reader, or beter still use w5torage and keep the card in the hermes...
(my card read i had problems with was an Icy Box variant)

i dont know if this would help but if you have vista you can see your card as an external USB drive... i have put 1.8G files on my card and taken them off with no issue i have a 2G sandisk

Because, to make it work, i have to disable the usb advanced function...
but when i want to start "pogram > connection > usb to pc" the app opens and closes after a second...

worked ok for me, on latest Elf, and worked on a Dutty rom i used...
one thing. If you have previosuly made any bluetooth GPS com ports you can't then disable the USB function. (no idea why this is....)
go to bluetooth and delete ANY com ports.
then go back to disable the advanced USB function. it should now be changable.
then try WM5torage

Hi,
I've had problem too copying big files to my sd. I had LVSW 19.05. I imagine that my problems was one of this 2 choice:
- issue with the LVSW release ... I've tried black and all goes without problems;
- but first I've reformatted my microsd with 2 copy of fat (normal behavior in hd, not so normal in sd cards) - I've used Pocket Mechanic.
One of this 2 operations had resolved my issue ...

Memory card issue

I have a new problem every day!
Now, my memory card changes the name for memorycard2, and all the icones of programms I have installed in it is bloken. How can I fix it?
What version of energy is better, cookie ou standart? I cant connect with portuguese radio stations, I have 28.08.2010 rom version and 4.49.25.91. Do you think thats the better option?

I had the same problem when I decided to upgrade from WM6.1 to WM6.5, I didn't find any other solution than change the SD card. I have no technical explanation, just try different SD cards until you're lucky

This error normally happens, when u r connected in disk drive mode and an app using memory card is open. Phone doesn't detect a memory card and thus creats a folder "Memory card" in phone memory n store data in it.
To solve it, try this -
1. Remove memory card from phone
2. Delete "Memory Card" folder from phone memory
3. Insert memory card and reboot
If it doesn't work, format the card and everything will be fine.
P.S. - i faced d same problem and was not able to format the card in Windows XP. I then formatted using frnds' laptop, which had Windows Vista
