Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to develop an application which let you adjust the backlight settings when using the device on power or on battery.
I would like to be able to set a lower backlight when the device is on battery power, and use full backlight when the device is on AC power.
Can anyone give some help on which function calls to incorporate?
umm... This option comes stock with your XDA II
Go to Start --> Settings --> System --> Backlight
There should be two slide bars, one for battery, other for on power

I am an idiot... Thanks for your reply!
I must be a genuine developer; trying to develop what's already been done

backlight
have u checked the backlight settings, theres a separate bar for the backlight when plugged in.. that might be right down..?
there could be a registry thing to stop it too...
Start | Settings | [System Tab] | Backlight
Within here, you have 3 tabs at the bottom of the screen.
Brightness, Battery Power, External Power. On the latter two options you should have the option to change whether or not the backlight stays on in those circumstances. For example, you can switch the backlight to go off after 10 seconds on external power.
Check this If it is still causing the issue when you have unchecked both of those boxes, well, you know where we are
tried all the backlight settings ..... brightness, battery power, external power.. ...but nothing worked ...the backlight used to switch on as soon as charging wire was removed or was put in camera mode even while charging.....finally had to reinstall the rom....now its fine....
is it normal that the backlight is always on when synced to activesyn via cable?
yes because its charging aswell. you can turn it off in backlight settings in, settings > system > backlight.

This setting does nothing for this problem.
I have this exact same problem with my HTC touch. WHenver I plug it into the PC to sync, th ebacklight comes on. I turn it off with the power button, but it comes back on about 30 seconds later. Rinse, repeat.
ActiveSync seems to want to keep turning the screen on. Since I want to sync and charge my phone overnight this is not good for me, I am worried about it reducing the lif eof my screen not to mention the wasted power.
Is there any way to disable this, to tell the phone to *NOT* power up the screen while synching? Or at least disable the backlight?
This question is being posted all over the web - no one seems to have any answers.

Don't worry about it, LCD screen have a long life-time.
You change your phone before it dies.
If you still want to turn off the screenlight, but keep sync on, you need to use 3rd part programs, like "DisOff"
How can I turn off the backlight on my diamond touch. It goes black far too quick, does my head in. any help, thx.

Your question doesn't really make sense... do you want to know how to keep the backlight on longer, or make it turn off sooner?
Either way, you adjust the backlight in the 'Power' settings page:
Start - Settings - System - Power - Advanced tab...
Turn off backlight if device not used for:
Turn off device if not used for:
You could always try reading the manual that comes with your phone?
When I run iGo8 and don't touch the screen for a minute, it seems the device acts as if it was inactive and goes into standby, then I have to turn it back on, unlock the screen and so on..
The only thing I can do right now is to turn off the power management options before launching iGo8 and putting them back on after I finished using it, but there has to be an easier way..
Can anyone help me with this please?
Thanks in advance!
hi!
start igo...--->settings--->more(little arrow on the right bottom side)--->device
there u can switch the power settings.
before u have to switch your general settings form normal to expert.
i use "always on" but then u might have an other issue...try to search for a street, your "a key" might gotta stuck.
you can fix that problem too...just search the forum.
Nevermind, I think it's solved now..
I guess I just had to post the question to be able to find the answer myself
For those who might have the same problem : there is an option for Power management, it was set on "Use Device Settings" instead of "Backlight always on"
I looked in the sys.txt and in every other option but missed that one

I had the problem with the aaaa key yesterday but solved it thanks to this forum, so I guess my backlight was on "always on" yesterday?
I don't remember changing that one...
indeed, you have to set the backlight feature inside IGO to "Always On". but then there's another problem - IGO overrides the general backlight settings in Windows Mobile (which I set to more than 40% constant, without the automatic adjustment). I didn't manage to make IGO to not synchronize with the OS backlight settings (tried to add the line "backlight_sync_with_OS=0") but it's a no go.
Each time I launch IGO, it will limit my general backlight settings to 40% for both battery and external power.

It seems it did the same thing for me, except that "Automatically adjust backlight" is still activated, so the 40% Backlight adjustment shouldn't be taken into account.
Is it deactivated for you?
I deactivated the automatic adjustment in order to save some battery, and instead I've set my backlight to 50% while on battery, and 80% while using external power (in my car). I think that there's no known solution for this.
Hi, I just bought the M2 and I have an important question...
As topic: it's possible to enable vibration anytime I press the screen?
i dont want o know this propouse, but i can make a app that when you touch the screen your app will VIBRATE the phone, but with default settings its not possible, and not right, because M&%!(*blur is starving of battery and if everytime you touch the screen your phone vibrate you will need to carry you phone pluged in a recharge

I mean, vibration tactile feedback...
you have some options at configuration menu, when you press a key from touch keyboard or when you tray to move some icon, but not when you do just a click to open some app
Note: This 'feature' will decrease your battery faster
