Extract Files from ROM???

Does anyone know if there is a way to extract files from ROM? Since we can add files via MKROM is there a way to either extract files from the ROM or the .nbf or .nb1 files?
yes, just use the dumprom utility but remember you wont be able to pack them all back in for the compress.dll is not being utlized yet.
You can get dumprom for win32 here http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/dumprom.html
Dont forget dumprom can extract files from 4.x roms with the '-4' commandline option.
What I would like to do, if possible, is to extract the files that makeup IE in the 4.00.10 version and then load them into an SPHi700 running the 2002 ROM. Then change the registry keys and see if it will work. It appears that there are only two files required though there might be more. If it needs API calls and entry points in the OS that are not there in 2002 then it wouldn't work. Otherwise I would have an upgraded IE in the 2002 SPHi700.
Any idea if I can do this and if it will work?
Hi Barjohn. Thanks for the info regarding the "g" and I have found a rom of .05 that it works with.
As far as taking IE from .10 to ppc2002 I don't think it will work. The architecture appears to be different, as well as the registry structure. Something like Win98 to WinXP.
Just my .02 but that is what I have been reading online.

mkrom hangs on welcome screen

I just make the special edition ROM trhought mkrom and I obtain the.nb1 file, but when I flash my xd and make the cold reset, it hangs on the welcome screen, it print the 3 lines in red in the right bottom and after that ..... Nothing....... sniff
Anyone could help me????
I used the .nbf file that comes with the program A of O2.
Thks
that means that the windows kernel, and gsm have initialized.
the system should then proceed to execute the stuff mentioned in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init.
maybe something went wrong with default.fdf?
I use the default.fdf that comes with the mkrom.zip, I just extract it and copy the nk.nbf file and proceed, I didn´t modify anything.
thks
I try to make another ROM with diferent Default.fdf but it hangs too.
it could be the NK.nbf file???
can you tell me where is a link fot one NK.nbf valid?
I´m going crazy  jeje
thanks
if you use a different source rom, you need to change your default.fdf to
the one from that rom.
thanks for your patience,
I extract the default.fdf from the NK.nbf with dumprom.exe.
and then I use the fdf2reg.pl to create the default.reg and I put this file in the cfg directory, and after that I execute mkrom (sh mkrom.sh NK.nbf)
is that correct???
thanks
I think that the nbf file that I´m using is not a correct verion.
I tried to make a nbf file form jeff´s page but it doesn´t work with the nbf selection.
Do you know where can I find a nbf file that works with mkrom???

Where to find dumprom.exe

Where can I found dumprom.exe? Why do I have to use Windows to extract files from rom? As I found I can use linux dumprom executable included in kitchen. It works with 4.00.10, but I can't get it work with 4.00.11, 4.00.16 and 3.17. The extracted file default.fdf is corrupted. :x
the linux version does not link to the compression library. that is why files seem corrupted.
Ok thanks,
I found it allready at http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/

How to install exe files on your MDA without activesync...

Any ideas ?
If you run the .EXE, it puts the .CAB files in a directory under C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync. There may be a few versions for different devices, but you can usually tell which is the right one by looking for arm or WM5 in the filename. Copy the CAB to your SD card and then install directly to your device.
how can you tell what's in an exe file?
When I try to install real player for mobile, it says I should install Activesync -which I've installed already!
Can I access the cab file for my device from the .exe package that sits in my desktop?
Thanks for any help you may have.
There're some advanced tips & tricks here
thanks a lot

How to extract nk.nbf from Prophet RUU

Does anyone know to extract the nbf file from the romupdate utitlity of the prophet?
or where can I find the nbf file for the prophet in this forum? I need to make a rom image on my sd card..or can i do it using just the nba file in the customized rom upgrade?
When you run the exe, it puts all it's files into a temp dir, probably your %temp% dir.
I'm sure there's an extractor of some kind if you can't find the file you want just by searching your harddisk for the file you're after, after you run the installation executable.
Get winrar (http://www.rarlabs.com) and once its installed right click onthe .exe file and select extract to (it will provide a foldername the same as the original file) winrar will extract the contents of the exe file to a flder for you.
yup! i 've done it, but don't know how to download the nk.nbf to my sdcard so that it can be flashed from there? anyone know?
