I would like to know if the SecureMMC can be used with the Himalaya. I realy need to use the secure features of this card.
Thank you.
Cesar Bremer Pinheiro.
I havent heard of that particular type of mmc, I think the "secure" part of "secure digital" refers to the little slider switch which when moved to the on position renders the memory card read only and so is secure from being overwritten.
Please see:
http://www.sdcard.org/sd_memorycard/index.html
This card isn't only a MMC card, it have secure encryption inside, suitable to protect data, the keys and encryption/decryption are inside the card. The device is a tampered resistant device, the keys will be erased if you try to open the card.
Cesar.
That site talks about SD (Secure Digitial) cards, which although are the same format as MMC cards, are not the same thing.
Both MMC cards and SD cards do work in the XDA and XDA2 though!
it's not called secure mmc it's called SD as in secure digital
it have the same packet as mmc and it's backward compatible with mmc
but there is where the similarities end they are very different internally
here is some reading
http://www.google.dk/search?q=mmc+vs.+sd&ie=UTF-8&hl=da&btnG=Google-søgning
and yes they work the xda both 1 and 2 dont have mmc slots they have SD slots which are backward compatible with mmc
how to take advantage of the encryption i dont know try googleing around for it

The Sandisk 256mb SD card in my xda II refuses to be formatted! I have used Cnetx Flash Format, StorageTools and PocketMechanic to format the card to get rid of unwanted data. All progs re-format the card, but when rechecking with File Explorer, all data is still there. I note that these files are marked in the Album app with a small lock image, as if they have been attributed read only. If so, how can I change the file attrib?
are you sure that the read/write lock on the card is not turned on ?
Definitely not.
can a sdcard reader format it ?
with pocket mechanics did you do a logic format or a fysical format ?
Definitely not.
Did a logical format with Pocket Mechanic
try a fysical format then it's more like a lowlevel format on a pc
Definitely not.

was this definitly not directed to the sdcard reader for the pc not being able to format the card ?
Have tried the low level and once again a logical format. Same result: folders and files still present. The "definitely not" was a repeat. Don't have a reader, but will try to borrow.
Have tried to format the SD card via a usb reader (which works! tested on a CF card). No luck: "Windows was unable to complete the format." I guess its kaput, and I have to resign myself to replacing it. Boy, this sure annoys me.
it happened to me once ... I formated my SD card on my qtek 1010 devices and it couldn't be formated on my i-mate
There is a silly trick but worked for me ... try using XDAtools to copy a ROM file to the SD card ... insert it into your device, usually it asks you to format the card ... this time press YES
HI Biso007
YES. 100% SURE IT WORKING!!!!
Tried XDAtools - got message that "the media is write-protected. Error opening target device. " Tried again only to be told "target device too small to hold an image." Now since the lock is off, this leaves me only one conclusion: its fried. I cannot understand how it could have gotten write-protected? I have never applied any security software to it.
Your SD card chip is damage!!!
hi.
If it doesn't work. It means that your sd card chip is damaged. Check if it is under warranty?
Put it in the toaster for 5 minutes, it wont fix it but it will pass the time.
Hi
I bought my wife an XDA II a while ago on ebay -- all works fine but....
.... it's working on a 256mb SD card.
I now have a spare 1G and 2G SD card and trying to use them --- and they will not write or format
message ranges from "write protected" to "device in use" to "write failed"
Any ideas? - are they too new? are they too big, or do I need a special format program.
Cheers
Mike
I asked qtek about the maximum SD-card size. They said 2Gb, so I bought that. It is a 150x fast card. It works fine! Would like to have a 4Gb thou!
I have had no problems with my other SD-cards either (512kb and 1Gb). (All of them had been used in cameras before, no extra formatting needed).
Thanks for your reply, I will try a soft reset and then try again
Nothing I do works.
I have even tried Panasonic SDFormatter incase it's the formatting.
All errors so far this time say that the card is write protected - but it's not
Mmmmm
I've got it ...
Checked all the messages about SD cards and one suggested a fix.
It's physical - I just need a label over the write protect switch
also remember to format teh card from your pc in a card reader, and dont format as fat32, it must be fat16 or just fat, my m1000 hates fat32 and wont let me reformat or read the card.
Hi!
Just got my first memory card ever - put it in but can't see or access it, not appearing in storage device.
its an 8gb mini used through an mini s adapter..
please help!!
Hi.
I had simillar problem with my card. Wizard is not like the other phones, it can't read cards which are damaged or not formatted. Obviously, yours is not damaged. Simply just access the card through your PC, format it, insert the card into the wizard (you will see no change at all so far), reset your phone and after windows mobile loads, it will ask you if you want to fomat the card - yes, format it. And there you go, you have yourself a storage device
Hope it works.
P.S.
There's also one other option, your card is too big to be handled by your device.
but it seems to be formatted
Hi. seems its formatted, although I did not format it.
I Put it into (vista) computer and it just worked. When I did a "show properties" on the card it was FAT 32 formatted.
Is there a Max limit to the size of card?
8gig mini or micro?
If it is a 8 gig micro your phone will not read it. Sorry will only ready mini sd's
not micros or mini sdhc.
even...
Hi!
even though I'm using a MicroSD adapter??
thanx
On my wiz, my card is running FatFS , not Fat32. It could make the difference, i am not sure. Since you are in a zero position, you have nothing to lose with one more format, so just format the card in your pc and restart your wizard with the card inserted. If this doesn't help, then greasemuntney is prolly right and you can't use this card.
fatfs
Hi so right
Whats FatFS??
thanx
as mentioned above the wizard does not support SDHC standard and your 8GB happens to be SDHC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_Memory_Card
awwwwwwwwwww c rap
damn... so is there a firmware upgrade? or something that I can do to upgrade the phone to use sdhc??
I got this card as a present so can't swap it?
Nope, you're bagged. Phone cannot read SDHC, no matter what kind of adapters, ROMs or firmware you attempt to employ. Try selling the chip on Craigslist and use the money to buy a bunch of 2GB cards.
SDHC
ok before a final verdict that wizard wouldn't read an sd that is in sdhc format (fat32 reliant) do note that i had the same problem but googled to find two solutions that didn't work alone yet combined did !
first of all you need to change the latency of the card read in registray as follows:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPUnloadDelay“=dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPWaitIODelay“=dword:8196
Note that the 8196 should be entered as a DECIMAL value. The HEXADECIMAL (HEX) equivalent is 0×00002004.
now attached are two sdhc drivers that require (acording to uploader) to be installed cab file first for registry tweaks and then replace both files installed in windows directory with others included in driver bundle. (through instruction guide in a txt file is included within zip file)
finally reboot , yet as a disclamer do note the following your device will not be backward compatible with regular sds . (not untill you hard reset it so it would restore original dlls and setting)
Interesting. If this works for anyone besides night-mayor, please post your hardware(G3/G4)/IPL/SPL...tracking successes and failures with this method will be valuable to other users.
In fact, you can only use standard SD cards (mini or micro with mini adapter) and the maximum capacity for standard SD protocol is 4GB, but it's difficult to find 4GB Standard SD cards (micor or mini).
Most of manufacturer actually sells HC card for 4GB size, and on web stores, it's often not very precise about HC or none HC.
Good luck...
List of working 4GB Mini SD cards.
If it ain't here, it ain't working, generally speaking (it is not comprehensive). As you can see, they do make 4GB cards that aren't using the HC configuration, but they are rare. One of the replies on the thread I linked to above even mentions an 8GB kit, but it did not work.
hello everyone
if you have a dead MicroSD that your pc doesnt recongizes it the SD Association has made a software to fix it...
You just download and install SD Formatter on your Windows/Mac pc ,
the software will detect automatically what kind of SD card is and will give you the options of how to format the card...after the process is complete and your sd card is working again hit thanks
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.
The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area".

Looks like you're SOL if you're running Linux.. that's a shame.
I've always just used parted and fdisk and never had a problem with it. If there is a proper way to do this, do any UNIX gurus know the proper way to format an SD card?

I don't think there is a "proper" way to do it for us, other than something like fdisk. There's also Gparted or kde-partionmanager to make formatting & partitioning easier. They'd properly still hit the "protected area" though. Is this "protected area" they mention in the first 512 bytes???
Hi Everyone
Any ideas why my Moto X Play would not even see my brand new MicroSD Card?
It's 128GB and so far I've tried it formatted as both EXFAT and FAT32 and no dice! It just doesn't even see the card.
Anyone have a guess at what gives?
**Edit**
So I've tried multiple sizes and brands of SD cards and none of them seem to be detected by android. Also tried resetting the device and no dice. Looks like my card reader may be borked.
** Edit 2**
I ended up having to return my device, as the card reader was pooched. The store simply did an over the counter exchange.
Can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Maybe the card isn't mounted properly (in the wrong position) or as you said, you may have a faulty card reader on your phone.
I may be suffering the same issue. Have you been able to achieve anything regarding this?
I ended up having to return mine. The SD card reader was dead as I had suspected.
if you can format the sd card that means your phone see's the card and you can choose weather if you want to format as internal or external i like it internal but you have to get a faster card for sure and if you switching card from 16g to 32g....ect you have to forget the latter card then you can restore all your files. it worked for me.
