Dont flame me, just got the phone and searched the forum, could be im a little stupid but i cant seem to be able to get it off the default sound..
if chaing it in sounds and nitifications in settings dont work there is something amiss
There is no option to change mms tone, yes option to change tone for everything else but mms
got a way to change... just found out by accident.
1. go get a tone you like grab it and save it to .wav
2. download it into the XDA2
3. goto file explorer> my devices> programes files> arcsoft>arcsoft MMS UA
4. get ur tone and rename it to RecBkMusic
Simple term overwrite the old recBkMusic to the tone u desire then its done!!!
Top Man!! Thanks for that............
Here's a WAV file for the ArcSoft MMS Application.
Just overwrite the file on your Pocket PC with this one. The path is: /Program Files/ArcSoft/ArcSoft MMS UA/

Rayan

hey, does anyone know where the Os stores the tones tht you can use for sms alerts?
i want to add my own to it but i cant see an option for it and was thinkin tht if i could add it to the folder then it might appear in the given list of tones?
cheers
All the sounds for the alerts are stored in the windows directory. If you convert your tones/songs to .wav format then you can use them for sms, alarm clock and other alerts. keep them short though. I think you may have to run the 'add ringtone' program and select the files. You can run ringtones from anywhere in the windows folder but if you use .wma files they need to go directly in to the windows\Rings folder else they wont be detected. well thats what i found anyway.
You are supposed to add a ringtone to \Windows\Rings with any file explorer.
WM2003 supports these: .WAV .WMA .MID(the most compact one)
People, who use "Add Ringtone" have nothing to do at this site, it's xda-developers.com! Joking!
Yes you are correct but you dont need to put them in the Rings folder unless it is a .wma file. I find the midi type tones better cos i dont hear true tones as well. Maybe im deaf!
dir \Windows has so many files, that it takes years to open it and even more to find something there! That's why I prefer \Windows\Rings.
PS: Don't worry, you're not alone being deaf in this world!
i'd like to see somebody using a wma file as sms notification
i've only been able to add wma for phone rings not sms's

I'm trying to change my alarm sound on my XDA this doesn't work at all.
Lets stay in the defaults Rings Alarm2,Alarm3 <-- if I select one of those it keeps using the default ring Alarm1.
I've tried to edit the registry as well no luck, I don't wanna use any Alarm prog my Rom is Wm2003 4.0.1.16 cooked and if I select any other wav file from the \windows folder it just keep using the default one  has anyone fixed this bug?
I can't say i know the software for the xda1 but if you can't add alarm sounds which are .wav then why not just overwrite them? Just save your new sound as Alarm1.wav in the windows folder.

You cannot overwrite them bcz they are read only files thus they are in the Rom !? If you have a way to delete or edit or replace those files tell me
hello! how can i import wav file to be my new sms file. i can change ring tone but can't seem to know where to put the file for the os to make it into the list for new sms message tone. unless we can't.
terence
well so far i've found no way to add new sounds to the normal pda nonSpc phone sounds and notification
not sure why that is
new sms sound is possible
I have stated elsewhere on this forum that I've used a Butler style voice saying 'There's a message for you' (halmsg)
I have also changed my general notifications to a sexy girl's voice saying 'Open your eyes! (open your eyes)
& here's a cool ring tone (Pearl & Dean)
but how do you make them apear on the list ? in sounds and notifications ?
i tried looking for every post you ever made in your profile to find the post but found only a post where you said you changed it not how
I like the pearl and dean sound - can you make it available for download please - thanks
anything you have in your browser window (well most things anyway)
are first transfered to your pc
look in
dokuments & settings\[Name]\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\
the wma file should be in one of those dirs in temp internet files
along with all the gif's and jpg's and such that www pages have on them
1. For a wav/wma file to appear as ring tone, PASTE the file into your RINGS folder under WINDOWS on your device.
2. For the file to appear as SMS sound notification, PASTE the file into the WINDOWS folder on your device.
3. To achieve change other notofication not included in the notification list, use any registry editor and change the SOUNDS entry in your registry to point exactly what you want to be played.

ok thanks
I found many posts how to change ringtone and allerts sound, never how to change SMS sound ??
Any ideas ??
Thanks for reply (I hate my sms sound)!!!
Finaly found that.
Settings->Sounds->Notifications->(Event change to sms
But this way you can only use wav files from Windows directory. I use PhoneAlarm 1.3 and store (and use for SMS) WMA melodies on Storage - very good.

Here comes ...
By navigating links from this page (I think URL is correct) you can find info you need.
Convert the ringtones to WAV format, then put the WAV files in the \Windows folder. Then you can select them as SMS notification sound.

Thank you
you can also just copy .mp3 or .wav files to
\Application Data\Sounds
haven't tried .mid yet
Ringo Stinks...
Yuup you may choose Phone Alarm...
I used to use Ringo, but it sucks... it often to keep "silent" n no sound from my mp3 I ever chose.
thank you nuumuun. worked first try
found a way how to do it
Copy your files to:
Application Data\Sounds\
I copied BOTH MP3 AND MID files there and it worked!!!
I'm not sure but I think I read somewhere that you must make sure that the extension of the files are uppercase and for midi files it must be MID and not MIDI

I use this phone as a pager, and I'd like to change the SMS text msg tone to something loud and annoying. How / where do you install new sms tones?
I'm running a Cingular 8125, and I'm about to upgrade firmware later tonight.
Thanks,
Dan
Place the wav file or whatever you are using in the \windows directory and it would show up on the list in settings\sounds & notifications
  Pager....
I'm an idiot... I was trying to use a .mid file and it appears it only will take a .wav.
Thanks!
Also works for the new HTC HD2.
just put the converted .wav file into the windows directory and presto.
now available in msg tone selection
I got a strange problem. I put a couple of short mp3 files to use as ringtones they are like 126k. If i use it as a ringtone (like when my phone rings) it works fine. But if i try to go to settings/ sounds and notifications/ go to notifications and try to add it as for example a mms downloaded or new voice mail when I go to choose my tones the new .mp3 tones do not show up. But if in the same window I go to Phone: incoming call i am able to choose those files.
Help if you can.
Thanks
They need to be in your /windows folder to show up.
thanks,
They are in my Windows/ring folder where all of the other ringtones are.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
