How do i change SMS ringtone? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Or what program do it :?:

It's just a .wav file. It needs to be in the \windows folder before you can choose it. Then from the dialler screen select Tools | Options - Other Settings/Notifications.
You can then select the event 'Inbox: New SMS Message' and the .wav file you copied to the \windows folder from the fle selector below.

Help Needed: Ringtones and IE Favorites

Can the Universal Play mp3 or wma files as ringtones thru the standard contacts application? I see where to assign ringtone but my wma tones are not shown. I placed them in a folder in the mydocuments folder in the internal memory. Do they need to go into a different folder? Or do I have to use a third party application?
Also, in WM5 I dont see a Windows folder when I select Explore thru active synch. In WM2003 inside of the Windows folder I had a Favorites folder. I am looking for this folder to copy and paste a few links I saved on my PC from my Jam.
Thank you for your help!

RESOLVED
Sorry, I figured it out. Ill leave the post just in case someone else runs into this problem. I had my file settings to not show hidden files. Changing that to show all files I now have the Windows folder. The ringtones go into the windows\rings folder and under windows there is the folder for favorites.

If you have MP3 or WMV files go to the option of the file u we be able to set that file as ring tone... Windows automatically copy that file in to Ring folder and shows u in ring tone list for u from Phone.

Shortcut to a file on Start Menu

Hi,
I've been looking a the Menus applet in Settings to select what I want on the Start Menu, but I cannot seem to work out a way to have a shortcut to a file displayed there, namely a shortcut to a .reg file
Actually, I have a folder on the SD card called RegFiles containing my .reg files and I would perfer to have this folder listed up there with "Programs" and "settings" on the start menu.
I tried creating a shortcut of the folder from the SD card to the Programs folder but no luck.
Any suggestions?

Michael

write access to the windows directory?

Hi there!
I got a question:
id like to change the sound when i recieve a sms with a custom one on my o2 xda neo but when i copy a wav file to the my documents directory the file only appears in the ringtone menue for incoming calls. so my plan was to replace one of the default sound files in the windows dir wich is shown in the menue for incoming sms sound eg alarm1.wav. the problem is that those files are write protected. is the any way to get write acces to this directory? or is there an other way to change the sound for an incoming sms to a custom sound file?
1. You can use Total Commander to overwrite the write access. It works for most of the write protected files. Not sure about the WAV.
2. You can just copy your WAV into the \Windows directory. The \Windows is not write protected. Your WAV file should shown in your SMS noti sound after you copied it into \Windows
thank you!!! your second advice worked!

Possible to change program assignments?

In my Dopod, when I click on a TXT file in my File Explorer, it always opens in MS Pocket Word. Then I have to be careful to select the correct file save as text files.
I installed some alternative NotePad programs but there appears to be no way to change the file extension type assignments to start up the correct program instead?
I have googled quite a bit but came up empty!
Anybody solved this problem?
Thanks!
AFAIK, Advanced Config has such an option to change file associations.
I had Advanced Config 3.2 already but did not know it had file association.
Found it under More Settings!
Unfortunately, when I tried to re-assign the program, it bombed when I was navigating the tree view.
Eventually, had to copy the application to \Program Files\ and select it from there!
After that, it seems to accept the settings.
Unfortunately, after the soft reset, the extension is still pointed to same application as before!
Latest update!
Something very funny is going on.
Advanced Config shows that the file association has been changed.
TXT file is now:
\Program Files\PocketTextEditor.exe "%1"
However, when I click a txt file in File Explorer, it still opens with Pocket Word!
Did I do something wrong?
Thanks!

How to Add Ringtone?

I tried to add a ringtone from Start - Settings - Sounds - Add Ringtone; but I don't see any music files in the list and there is no option to browse. Only a dropdown folder list is there.
Please guide.
Thanks.
Tap and hold music file in file explorer, choose "set as" (not sure about translation) and choose what event you want to assign it to.
Or you may copy the ringtone files into the folder \My Documents on the storage card. Then they will be found.

Click to collapse
This is a good way, always works.
Thank you all.
