My socket card has worked fine but for some reason often finds next door's wireless (WEP encrypted) network.
Once it's locked onto his network no amount of hitting "rescan" in the menu seems to work
Is there any better interface driver software than the socket one that will list all available wireless networks like XP does so that I can select the one of my choice?
Many thanks!

I have recently bought one of these on ebay for my Qtek 2020
Here is a link to a similar sale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3728&item=5716896682
So far the card has worked fine. It connects to my Access point at home (I have a Belkin 54g AP) and I have also connected it in ad-hoc mode to my laptop using a D-Link 54g PC Card. No indication of battery life effects yet, but the card does get warm in use.
I have failed so far to get ActiveSync to connect over the network, but that just might be a firewall issue with my company laptop. I can browse the laptop hard disc without trouble and stream mp3's to the PDA fine.
If only Pocket PC2003 network settings was a bit more user freindly!
The SanDisk card has two problems that are really annoying. Can you tell me if this card:
1. Can connect to WPA-protected access points?
2. If you remove the card, and re-insert it, will it work without having to reset the device?
WPA access is supported in the application, but I haven't tried it as I use MAC address control on my home AP. I could give it a try if you need it tested.
I can remove and replace the card and it reconnects without having to do a reset. If you replace it very quickly after removing it it will get confused, but I guess that's not unreasonable.
That's much better than the Sandisk. You have to reset the device if you remove it and want to use it again. And tech support says that is normal! Idiots. The Sandisk also doesn't support WPA. The application says it does, and it will take the key, but it doesn't work. Once again, Sandisk support says that is normal.
So...if you have some time to try out WPA at some point, it would be very useful to know.
I recently bought the JJ and love it EXCEPT for one issue. I am totally unable to surf the net with any method other than GPRS. I have a Netgear router connected to my desktop and my broadband connection, and run a wireless network with my tablet PC. Before I upgraded, my IIi had no trouble syncing (I know AS 4 doesn't support this) or using IE to surf the net wirelessly. I never had to change any settings on my wifi network.
With the JJ, it connects, gives me a decent looking IP address, but immediately following connection, it kills the Wifi network. Neither the desktop or tablet PC can connect to the internet via the cable modem attached to the router anymore, and what's worse, AS crashes and will no longer synchronise the JJ (which is hooked up to the Tablet via USB). Spb Weather subsequently no longer syncs, either. The only solution I found is that I can reboot the router (the technical term for pulling the plug out of the socket and then putting it back in) AFTER I disconnect the JJ. I can go online again then with everything excep the JJ of course. Unfortunately, I have found no way to reconnect my JJ to AS without doing a hard reset (which I've already had to do twice!).
I know that I can get on the internet using my AS connection because I can update Spb weather, check email, etc. via the USB connection, but yet I cannot get IE to connect. What am I doing wrong?
Please help me complete the one thing that would make the JJ the best PDA I have ever had.
routers and activesync
Microsoft are working on this and other activesync issues. a new AS version will be available in November, so they promise...
Be aware though that in my experience, the worst configuration problems come from routers, and defining network segments... are u using windows xp, maybe network bridging the connection to JJ with the tablet pc could help, u might need to fiddle a bit with the created bridge, like disable enable bridge/connections, etc... this is how i could have tried to do it anyways...
good luck dude, it took me once five days to sort out a wireless connection via routing, and another time I just returned the kit I just bought from netgear to replace it with a one from belkin, but i still had to sweat to get things smooth..., this is the price to pay when hardware is produced by so many different companies, with different drivers, etc... we wish things were more standardised; and to the credit of MS, it forced computer manufacturers to standardise a lot of what they produce, but not enough to my satisfaction...
Peace out

to he honest, I think I just got lucky networking my desktop and tablet and IIi together. I wish the same luck came to me again as this is very frustrating!

Hmm, tricky. You shouldn't have so much trouble. Try a few things that pop to mind:
- Check if your PC has a proxy set. I THINK I once found that when I synced my PPC got passed the proxy settings, and it confused me for ages. WOuld explain why IE behaves differently to spb. I think the proxy is under advanced settings on network connections of PPC
- Check you PPC networks adaptor settings, all should be set to "obtain server-assigned IP"
- Try trning off wifi when using AS. They may conflict
- Search this board for "firewall". Other users have found this to be an issue with AS
Not too helpful, I know...
I haven't experianced any problems. I synced with my BT Voyager w\l router first time and always makes the connection when I'm in the area.
It even makes PIE half usable!
I wish mine would work too
My wifi network is now unstable
still can't connect to internet for IE
He all,
I got some connection problems.
If i insert my WiFi card(sandisk 256+WiFi) my I-mate detects it and the antanna is displayed in de buttom of my screen but whenni go to my browser(internet) the message :Cannot connect with current conection settings. To change your connection setting, tap settings.
But i have no id how to change the settings to make it work with my wireless network.
Also the WiFi card couses to freeze the system every once and while. If i take the card out everything is okey again.
I got the I-mate jam with latest rom and radio drivers and I already installed the drivers of the WiFi card.
I hope you guys can help me out with this one
Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem with my XDAII, believe it is likely to be a known problem and related to the dual function of the card.
Have you tried the website for updated drivers?
The other options are to ensure that it you have the correct settings for Work or Internet to connect to.
I assume you are connecting to a wireless Access Point on a home based WIFI system, or are you trying to connect to public hot spots?
Contacted clubimate?
It started after I installed the latest rom version you guys think I migh work if I installed the older version?>
GreetZ
Nick
which rom are you referring to, an original manufacturer version or a cooked rom from this site?
if it is a licensed version, I would contact imate, have you installed the latest drivers from the hardware supplier?
I think you may have to go to your wireless settings and ensure connect to the internet is selected. also, scan local networks and ensure you are connecting to the correct network.
my problem when I got that message was cause it was connecting to the guy next door with wep key required.
are you able to connect to your host pc via wifi using a mapped network drive? or are you simply using a wifi hotspot?
if using a wifi hotspot, you should select auto connect to non-preferred networks.
start - settings - connections and choose wireless or wifi or network and have a look at what is actually happening in the network configurations. if you are really struggling still, try posting some screen shots of your network connection settings
sorry misread post
Just to end this topic.
I returned it to sadisk and they said it was the memmory function.
I couldn't get a new one form the store i bought it so I got my money back,
I now have a new one without the extra memory.

I have just flashed my wizard back with Wizard Love in hopes that it would fix the Problems I have had since I got it connecting to wireless networks to access the internet.
This did not work though... So I wanna know what I should do next. I just flashed the phone today so all settings are the defaults.
I have in network cards the following:
SDIO WLAN...
NET 2000...
Remote NDIS...
Virtual Ethernet Intermediate...
PPTP NDISWAN...
AsyncMAC NDISWAN...
L2TP NDISWAN...
I can't at the moment see any wireless networks and I am at the university and my city has a city wide wifi network too. so they are available just can't see to connect... A typical protocol would be great as most of the posts I've read users are having trouble connecting not seeing networks... at this point I am envious of them.
Thanks
I wonder...If you knows how to enable Wifi? You need to start it in CommManager (Some ROMs requires you to click the buttons for 2 times in order to start it).
If it is started, you can see an additional LED lits with the phone signal LED.

So, I installed a couple different ROMs of WM6 and still no wifi connections??? I can't see any access points or my home router yet and I am ready to give this thing the toss... The device came with the box and CD from cingular so I think its authentic. But I can't tweak settings to get a wifi signal for nothing. The LED blinks and the antena icon is on in the toolbar but no signals... I will entertain the most entertaining suggestions..
is it possible the sdio card is dead???
just wondering here... is it possible that the sdio wlan adapter is dead and if thats the case can I replace it and how difficult is that????
Everything is working with my Wp7 install on HD2 but i dont know but no matter what i do i am not been able to connect wifi
Is there a way i can fix wifi connection issue ?
well you cant connect to hidden networks, but if you cant see any networks where before you could then its most likely an SD card issue.
Its well documented that wifi, laging, random restarts or no memory is to do with an incompatible SD card

Change your security settings EG: Wpa2, Wpa or Wep. But switch your mobile off first, then change the settings, then swich it on and see if all OK.
If it does'nt work, then format you sd card and start again, but leave your wifi off, until ready. Now switch on your wifi, the phone should now see it.
it is an incompatible SD card
Since nobody mentioned this one yet...
You'll also have trouble connecting if you're using MAC-based filtering to only allow specific devices on your network. (WP7 MAC address is different from your HD2's regular one, and it also changes on every boot)
OP: you'll get better help if you provide some more details! At what point are you having trouble:
You don't see any wifi networks at all
You don't see your network listed
You see your network, but can't connect to it
If it's the first, most likely WP7 is not happy with your choice of MicroSD card, and you'll have to try a different one.
I have the same problem. I can find networks but I cant connect to mine everytime i tried to. It sometimes connects sometimes doesn't. I'm using a passphrase not mac filter.
