Cellis GPRS changes
Cellis made some changes to GPRS settings, but not to MMS yet.
The APN is now internet.mic1.com.lb (instead of internet.ftml.com.lb) and, for the modem, username and password are mic1 (instead of plugged). I think MMS changes will follow.

Tekflow thanks for your contribution
I have a question for you, Lets say that I have a prepaid Cellis sim charged it with click power can I use the msn messenger and browse the internet by using the Wap over Gprs on the Xda, what are the configurations to do that ?

I'm not sure that GPRS is available with prepaid SIM cards. Probably, you can't have a GPRS connection, unless you have a fixed telephone line (I think). Do you have GPRS available (does the icon letter G appear next to the phone signal when you switch on your device) ?

Hello Tekflow, apparently cellis changed the MMS settings. Do u know the new settings? I tried to apply the ones you give for GPRS but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks and regards

To Ramram:
If you have a complete access to GPRS, you don't need to use wap.
Use these settings for the connection:
Select Cellular Line (GPRS) for the modem
Access point name:
For Cellis: internet.mic1.com.lb
For Libancell: isurf.libancell.com.lb
Username and password:
For Cellis: enter mic1 for both
For Libancell: leave both empty
For MSN Messenger, remember to upgrade the software from the Microsoft site (whetther you're running on 2002 or 2003)
If you want to use wap and MMS, and, as I see, you have an XDA I (or Qtek 1010 or whatever), then you need to install extra software. I think the best for this is to get EzWap 2.5. Unfortunately it is not free, but you may find a free copy at Yahoo group XDA pocket pc (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/o2xda) You need to subscribe first.
Use the settings for MMS Libancell (or Cellis) that I already posted in a previous message

To Elio
As you see, Cellis is being transferred from FTML to MIC1, so each mention to ftml in any setting has changed to mic1.
For GPRS (and the related modem), I already posted the settings in a previous message.
For MMS, I was told that we will be informed by the beginning of June of the new settings. Logically, the APN will be mms.mic1.com.lb (instead of mms.ftml.com.lb) but this has not been confirmed yet.
Wait till next week.

Tekflow,
I have Xda O2 running WM2003, I have a Libancell prepaid sim as you know I can't access the internet, but I heard if I'd change my Sim to Cellis prepaid I could recharge it with Clic power and could gain the access on Wap over Gprs for free as I mentioned before.
About the Ezwap2.5 I have it. I installed it earlier but thanks to this website I installed the MMS composer that works on your "Imate or Qtek 2020" its working fine on this device but I wish I have an internal cam I can see the Icon but doesn't work of course!!! Anyway if you hear anything about the Wap over Gprs just shoot me with the updates, I’d be really thankful.

Does anyone know how to use the above to setup MMS on a 02 uk xda???
i can not get it to work so far
anyone???
Hi All,
I spoke to o2 about this a week or so ago. It turns out that only one of the 500 or so carriers that are under the 02 banner can support MMS and GPRS. So if you have GPRS ( like me I guess most people with an XDA do) you will not be able to send MMS even if your settings are right.
You can move to the carrier (who's name I have forgotten but will try to find), but you have to cancel you current contract and take out a new one. You also have to port you phone number, even thought you are staying with o2!! :x
If someone can tell me otherwise please do. As I do not really want to move my number/tariff as it is soooooooo much grief.
One last point. If you speak to o2 they will tell you that MMS on the XDA is not final and is not recommended by them as "It does not function to our customers expectations". Or at all in my case, so I cannot say if it does or not.
Gil.
 I just got of the phone with my carrier(singlepoint) they refused to help me at all with this problem, saying my mobile was not on there compatabilty list etc etc, so no go there
Gil,
You have it the wrong way round. There is only 1 or 2 carriers within O2 that does not support mms and gprs (web) togther.
but...
If you tell your carrier you have an xda and want mms then they will probably refuse as O2 are not supporting xda with mms yet.
Whilst we do understand what you mean, use the term 'service provider' instead of 'carrier'. O2 ARE the carrier, as they handle the telco functions of connecting calls, and 'carrying' your voice signals. You're service provider provide the billing and customer support faclities. O2 as a carrier do support MMS, but the service provider may not have integrated support for billing it yet. Most do now.
Why not try?

Why don't you just say you've bought a 7650 and that you want mobileweb and MMS together?
At least they can't argue that the 7650 isn't supported... right?!?!
yeah, i will see what they say tommorrow
Hi again,
This may be of intrest, or maybe not. I had a long e-mail conversation with a guy at o2 and these are the high-lights...
1: "Please be aware that O2 do not currently support MMS on the xda because it does not function to the standard required for satisfying customer usage. This is despite what may have been posted to various web fora."
2: Any support we give to that is a 'best efforts' effort (sorry for the poor grammar there) and with the explicit understanding that if it does not work, or otherwise fails to meet expectations, there's currently nothing much we can do about it (because it's not passed or, therefore, marketed as a working service...)
3:I see from your billing provider that there may be an issue about having both MMS and the GPRS Mobile web service at the same time - they will be able to confirm whether this will be a problem or not. It depends which system they use to sort the billing details.
Again, let me know if you hit problems. We will not be able to resolve that one if you hit it - it will be a case of choosing web access or MMS - but we at least can advise you of the reasons and your options.
All of the above points are from direct conversation with o2 GPRS and WAP guys. I have also spoken to the carrier and again they have said that they cannot support bith GPRS and MMS. I will try to find the details of the carrier that do.
If any one finds out if there is a way of doing both with out moving provider let me know!!
Gil.
Gil
GPRS Mobile Web is a totally different barrel of fish from MMS. The GPRS Mobile Web APN doesn't (to the information that I have been given) support MMS, but if you connect the MMS client through the GPRS Wap APN, it will work perfectly fine.
Just setup EZOS 2.5 to connect through the GPRS Wap connection, instead of the GPRS Mobile Web. I can send & recieve MMS via my XDA using the above setup, and still use Interent Explorer to connect to the INternet via the GPRS Mobile Web connection.

XDA 2 in need of GPRS & WAP & MMS settings for VodaF

Hi guys,
I'm giving my sister my old XDA 2 for Christmas (finally have the very slow XDA exec!) I've unlocked it and have a Vodafone PAYG sim card installed - running fine. I just need the connection settings so I can enable it to go online and send Media messages. Any one have a clue? It would mean so much to me - and I'll make a donation to the site if any tips work on my old phone.
cheers
Will
Voda settings
To set up Internet access on the device:
1. Click on START.
2. Click on Settings.
3. Click on Connections at bottom of screen.
4. Click on Connections icon at top right of screen.
5. Under ISP click on Add a new modem connection.
6. Enter a name for the connection (e.g. Internet).
7. Under Select a modem, choose Cellular line (GPRS).
8. Click Next.
9. Under Access point name type internet (note: this is case sensitive).
10. Click Next.
11. Under User name type web (note: this is case sensitive).
12. Under Password type web (note: this is case sensitive).
13. Click Finish.
14. The QTEK is now configured to use Vodafone GPRS.
Double check that the device is using this modem connection as its default connection by going into ‘Manage existing connections’ (Start, Settings, Connections, Connections), and ensuring that the black bullet point is next to the account that you have just created.
Setting up MMS:
Go to the messages section (Start, Messaging) and browse to the MMS inbox (using the drop down box labelled inbox in the left hand corner of the screen).
Select Menu (bottom right of screen) and select MMS Configuration.
The device should already have an account present and on the first screen the tick boxes that are checked are for your own personal choice (the ones on this device have ‘retrieve messages immediately’, ‘download on home network only’, and ‘save sent messages’ ticked.
On the Servers tab you should have a ‘Contract MMS’ account already created. If this is the case you’ll need to select the account and choose ‘Set as Default’.
If you do not have this account already created you should choose ‘New’ and enter the following details:
Server name: Vodafone MMSC
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
Connect via: The WAP Network
Sending Size limitation: 100k (recommended – but you may change this if you wish)
WAP Version: WAP 1.2
By the way.....
If the GPRS fails to connect first time you may need to click the antenna icon near the signal reception and 'turn on flight mode'. This will disable the phone recption. Then click again and 'turn off flight mode' to reactivate the phone reception. It should then connect ok (by going into Internet Explorer and trying to get to a web page of your choice).
Hi
This are the setting that you need:
Make or edit a connection under My isp
APN: internet
Password: web
Username: web
Make or edit a connection under My Work Network this is needed for MMS
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: [email protected]
Password: user
Go to your messanger and configure the MMS Configuration under server make or edit the server:
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
That is all you need good luck and merry christmas.

GPRS
are you sure you have the GPRS connection settings on the phone?
the way to check is go to
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
here you will see what connection is being used and what other connection are available to be used. if the O2 settings are not there you can add them manually.
add the settings from here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
hope this helps.

Tap ADVANCE>the TCP/IP tab is using server assigned IP address, TAP ON SERVERS TAB>USE SPECIFIC SERVER ADDRESS (DNS 193.113.200.200, alt DNS is 193.113.200.201). Tap OK> FINISH

All help appriciated!!!

Stupid question, I don't know the imate site at all - where can you find these settings, specifically Vodafone I'm looking for. I had a browse but couldn't see them.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Waiho.
I am now able to send MMS on my T-Mobile Vario phone with my o2 Sim.
Can I just highlight that should anyone need to do the MMS config part of your instructions. That they will also need to setup the GPRS WAP settings.
Thanks all. You peeps really are appreciated. This website has done what T-Mobile wanted to charge £15 and a 28 day wait, in 1/2 day (remember I am still learning).

Many Thanks..

Thanks a lot for the settings, I'll give them a shot later.
Are there any restrictions on incoming message sizes on Vodafone?
I thought it was my P900 that was at fault, it would get to about 47% and then bomb out with an unknown error. But, it received a picture the other day fine, previously it received video messages ok but they were perhaps smaller than the ones I've been sent recently.
The Wizard doesn't have a progress bar but it seems to be doing the same thing, it seems to do nothing for a while then just comes up with an error. It seems to connect to GPRS ok, and remains connected afterwards so I assume the settings are fine.

did you ever get the settings sorted for o2 PAYG as I am having the same problem I have tried putting them in and just can't get it to work, have you managed to put the settings correctly into yours, if you have can you please tell me how to do it thanks.
I too could do with the .CAB with the settings. Seemed to have lost them somehow
Thanks in advance
I can't help with a cab file but try these settings:
To manually check/setup the GPRS WAP settings:-
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections >
Under My Work Network tap Manage Existing Connections, select 'O2 WAP GPRS' and then Tap Edit
(if this isn't present then tap 'Add a new modem connection')
The Select a Modem drop-down box should be set to the following:
- for Xda Exec: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
- for Xda Mini S: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Tap Next
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Tap Next
Username: payandgo
Password: password
Domain: leave blank
Tap Advanced
On the TCP/IP tab, only Use Server-assigned IP Address should be selected
Tap the Servers tab
Only Use Server-assigned Address should be selected
Tap OK
Tap Finish
Tap Proxy Settings
Tap Advanced
Tap the WAP field
In the Server filed enter 193.113.200.195
In the Port field enter 9201
Tap OK 4 times and exit
To manually Check/setup the MMS settings:-
Start > Messaging > Menu > MMS Configuration
In the Preferences tab tick Retrieve Messages Immediately
Tick Download on home network only
Tick Save sent messages
Tap the Servers tab
Tap O2UK
Server Name: O2UK
Gateway: 193.113.200.195
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Set the 'Connect Via' drop down box to My Work Network
Sending Size Limitations: 100K
WAP Version: 1.2
Tap OK twice to exit
I hope this helps.

Okay.... further info.... having been on the phone to o2 (several departments) for a not inconsiderable amount of time today.
These settings (above) will allow you access to MMS functionality and the O2 Active service. However full GPRS access, POP access etc IS NOT available via a pay as you go sim (I argued with several departments & threatened to take my custom elsewhere but to no avail!).
However the good news is that they offer an 'online contract service' with a 1 month cancelation period that will give you full gprs access. I've opted for the 'online 30' (i.e. 30 quid) with 500 sms & 500 any network minutes per month, 'online 40' gives double that.
I have trawled the web trying to find the correct answer & settings but it seems that it basicaly comes down to the fact that O2 will not allow full internet access on a Pay as You Go simcard, for some strange reason known only to themselves. I thought that a couple of stroppy calls & some cajoling would do the trick.... but it seems not.
Bottom line then?
You need to be on a contract. However if you don't need a handset from them then a 1 month tie in is all that's required - (sim only, online deal).
I'll post back here if I have further problems with them (I do require them to keep the same number as on my existing sim..... & given the number of uninformed people I've spoken to already today, could prove to be a whole new issue in itself!).
Good luck out there!
Ian
