-SE-Rom compatability - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

ok lets see the first thing is I've been reading the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.2 artical and i notice it say it the last for ppc 2002 i have an XDA2
ROM version 1.60.00WWE
ROM date 12/03/03
Raido version 1.10.00
protocol version 1337.18
ExtRom version 1.60.46
I think my XDA2 is running ppc 2003, it says it version 4.20.0(build 13252)
and I want to know if SE-Rom will work with my machine?
Next
is there an irc channel that you guys use
I think thats it for now
tnx
sorchanin

flashing your xda2 with the dated xda1 rom which the special is would be like trying to install macOSX on your pc it's software compiled for another hardware system all togther
heck there are even newer and better roms for xda1 in the kitchens
i would wait untill people get some xda2 based kitchens up
about irc then i have no idea where people hand out no official irc channel that i know of

Kitchen????
now your staring to get all techy
ok so where best to find XDA2 stuff
sorchanin

think you need to specify what you mean by stuff

Help

Hello.
As a new xda user I have been reading up on flashing my machine to the Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Phone edition. I am trying to find out if every rom will work on my phone.
I have an 02XDA
Bootloader 5.17
Rom Version 3.14.17 ENG
Rom Date 10/11/02
Radio version 4.17
Protocol Version 32s54
I was looking forward to updating it to the new version but o2 Asia (I assume my xda is the asian model) says that an upgrade is unlikely.
Can I update it with one of your roms or possibly the WM2003?
Thanks.
Yup, you can upgrade it, and anyone should.
If you asked me two days ago you would get a negative answer. But last night for the second time I upgraded my XDA again to WM2003, and very very happy with it. Specially the telephone and SMS facilities.
When I upgraded first time last week, I was not happy at all, my application programs somehow hang the XDA, most probably Battery Pack older version. Now I am using Spb Pocket Plus instead.
If you want to upgrade to WM2003, just make sure that all your application program can run in it. You cannot trust the signal bar, so I use an excelent program called IP Dashboard test it.
My old set-up was exactly like yours, and now:
ROM version: 4.00.01 ENG
ROM date: 05/16/03
Radio version: 4.21.00
Protocol version: 32S54
Help X2
Ok then.
To make mine look official, where can i get a proper copy of WM2003? I know its not officially endorsed or anything but I want it to at least look the part.
I'm one of these people who love having the newest look to their mobile and as its new I havn't put any extra programs on it yet. (Apary from the sms fix)
and how would I go about getting it and resoring it if the update failed. ?
You may not be able to get an 'official' copy of WM2003, but there are plenty of developer-releases floating around
Search the forums and read as much as you can and you will have your XDA upgraded in no time.
If I'm not happy with WM2003 can anyone tell me if it is possible to downgrade with the official Programme a/b that can be downloaded from the 02 website.
I downloaded it just in case I had any problems a while ago. Touch wood *knock Knock* It hasn't been a problem for me.
you can down-grade. the best way of doing it is to down-grade to XDA-developers v1.2 then to O2 3.xx

Questions about radio stack upgrade

I have a Qtek 1010 with ROM version 3.16.13 ENG and Radio version 3.19.01. The phone part of my device is very unstable, so I want to upgrade the radio stack and see if that helps. But I am a little confused about the ROM and radio stack versions and hope someone can answer these questions:
-What is the latest radio stack version?
-Where I can get it?
-Are the radio stacks country specific or provider specific?
-Do I need to upgrade the ROM before I can upgrade to the latest radio stack?
I hope someone can help me with this.
I apologize if I'm asking stupid questions, but I would be very grateful if somone could help me with this. I've seen that there are many different radio stack versions. I would like to know if there is a newer version than 3.19.01 that will work with my Qtek 1010 in Norway.
I called my local dealer who told me that 3.19.01 is the newest upgrade available (but it didn't sound like he knew much about it). Does anyone know if this is correct? And if it is, are there any other radio upgrades that will work with my device? Can I e.g. use O2's upgrade for the XDA?
Once again, I apologize if my questions are foolish or have been answered before.

3.19.01 you said... Hmmmm, we have not studied that particular version yet. Please extract it and FTP it to xda-developers.com user 'xdaftp' password 'xdaftp' if you could.

You can use anyone's upgrade, really. There a few T-mobile American ROM upgrades which also upgrade the (separate) phone ROM when you install them (which is bad, because the phone software is different between 900/1800 and 900/1900), but otherwise you can play to you heart's content.
Until recently, the coolest thing to run was probably the xda-developer Special Edition ROM v1.2. It was based on the O2 3.17.03 ROM, but had lots of features added. Earlier this week, we released ROMkitchen (click here for more information). Setting up your own kitchen is fairly involved, but people have set up publically accessible kitchens you can use. One example is Jeff's kitchen, but others are bound to pop up all over the place.
In the ROMkitchen, you have a choice of basing your new ROM on the O2 3.17.03 ROM, or on the 4.00.05 Windows Mobile 2003 test ROM that's floating out there, and then you can add the freeware of your choice. Installation is a breeze since the kitchen will produce self-extracting compressed .exe files which you just need to execute to install the new ROM.
Read many other messages here to get a feel for things. There's a number of reasons to still use the 3.17.03 (or 3.19.01...) over the WM2003 thing, but for a lot of others it's already cooler than the 3.xx ROMs.
Once again, I apologize if my questions are foolish or have been answered before.

Well, to be honest we've been lazy, and we haven't spent enough time on writing really good FAQs that represent the current situation. A case of being too busy building the stuff to actually document it all right. And this forum is so busy that I can well imagine people being overwhelmed by it all. I know I am sometimes...
Good luck... (and please don't forget to extract and FTP the 3.19.01. There's documentation on how to extract and backup your old ROM here..)
Thank you very much for your reply. Are you saying that I can use any radio upgrade with my Qtek, or are you talking about operating system upgrades?
To avoid any possible misunderstanding: My current Radio Version is 3.19.01. I'm having a lot of problems with the phone part of my device, so I'm hoping that there is a newer and more stable radio stack version available.
If you're still interested in my 3.19.01 radio stack, I'll try to ftp it to you, but I'm currently getting a permission denied message from your server. I'll try to access it again later. Or you can download the radio stack from this location.
BTW: The ROMkitchen looks excellent. I'll probably do some cooking there soon.

Upgrade works but only with 2002 ROM not with 2003 ROM

Have been to the kitchen and done some cooking the last night.
Facts:Using SD card for all upgrades
Never cook anything but the Base ROM itself (e.g. no extras)
The upgrade works perfect every time, meaning it ends successfully so that I can do a cold boot to start the "new" ROM image.
ROM version org: 3.16
Current ROM: 3.20.06 ENG
Radio version: 3.19.01
Protocol version: 32S54
Model No: PW10A1
RAM: 32MB
Flash size: 32MB
SD Card size: 64MB
I have been able to switch back and forth between different 2002 ROM's
but every time I upgrade to 2003 ROM the unit hangs on the introductions screen. I see the splash for instans 4.01.19: s "Welcome to T-Mobile"
In the bottom right corner I can see the Protocol version, ROM version and Radio version numbers. BUT there it is and it does not respond to any buttons or even magic words like pretty please with suger on top.
I have tried the following versions:
4.00.33 GER, 4.01.00 ENG, 4.01.16 ENG and A.30.09 ENG
I have no problem getting back to a working unit with almost any 2002 ROM but hey I wanna try it out with a 2003 ROM.
Any ideas anyone? I have been looking around quit a bit but cant see that anyone posted something that helps me out here.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this great forum!

not sure but maybe the 32MB ram is too little for 2003
these devices are pretty rare i think
maybe you should try doing a search for people with 32MB devices
and their exp with 2003 ?

The 32 MB shouldn't be the problem. Using myself a device with only 32 MB without any problems with WM2003 .....
Maybe it's a problem with the Radio Stack...
Nearly all the providers of a WM2003 Release included a Radio Stack Update. Myself i've tested it with the 4.21 and the 3.23. Maybe yours 3.19. is just too old.....
Stefan
Ok, here we go again,
found the Radio Stack Upgrade from O2 uk (V421)
and upgraded witout problem to this one.
No I tried to upgrade with 2003 ROM 4.01.16 ENG but still same thing.
It hangs on boot screen even though it now in the lower right corner says:
G32S54
R4.21.00
4.01.16
I will try to load ROM A.30.09 ENG now.
I let you know how it goes.
/Jonas
Still no luck
Ok I have now tried will all known 2003 ROMs from the kitchen with the same sad result. (hang on boot screen as before)
I now downloaded the official O2 uk release of upgrade for XDAII (Xda_II_Upgrade_v16050.exe) when I unpack this one I find the following files that might be useful ms_.nbf, NK.nbf, Radio_.nbf.
When I try to write the NK.nbf to my SD card XDATools tells me that it does not recognize the file format.
I think I have seen something about this error but I cant find it now.
Im not even sure if this ROM will work. I can not see that this ROM is uploaded in the kitchen either but perhaps it will be?
So Im still stuck so any tips would be great and I keep testing new ways ahead.

hi. as LumpiStefan commended, you need to upgrade the latest radio stack. I think the radio stack 6.24 will work for you. check my posted for the radio stack.
Secondly, the radio stack will work it its specific OS rom image. for example, the radio stack for Tmoble , must match the Tmobile OS. you can not use radio stack built for O2 for Tmobile OS.
Therefore, try to upgrade with matching OS and its Radio Stack. I tried one night with all OS from Tmobile, ATT and OS to come with these solutions.

That´s wrong. 6.24 is for PW10B Models with 900/1900 MHz GSM. Do not use it on your device

That´s wrong too. Already used some T-Mobile ROMS with O2 Radiostack....

Also can you help me to have a radio stack version 4.20 or lower. ther repair.zip contain version 4.21. Thanks for correcting me.

WM2005 For Wallaby! YES - NO - CURVA. All confused.

hi to all!
i got some questions:
1. Are the Wallaby's upgradable to WM2005?? And if NO then why? will there be a release for the phone edition, and why release for the other non phone edition ver only? Dose it have to do with the Memory? 32 too little, min 64?
2. i have T - Mobile Wallaby Model: PW10B1, MS Pocket PC Ver. 4.20.0 (Build 13252), ROM Ver 4.01.16 ENG, ROM Date 02/04/04.
- the question is.......what ver of 2003 is this? SE or just 2003?
thanks.
Releasing An OS particularly the WM2005 (MAGNETO) is a choice of OPERATORS not by the Microsoft .. Microsoft done more than a dozen version of WM2005 for almost all devices and i believe they have no rights to release it in public unless for beta testing which is only for a particular person or group, they leave it to the OEM if they will released it or not ..
as we see a Discontinued product are most likely not supported with all new features and upgrade .. OEM loose all its interest on giving there time and effort for a OS version upgrade that they no longer sell and only concentrated on the newer that they will SELL..
we cannot expect an OFFICIAL release for OLD Discontinued Devices including WALLABY and HIMALAYA ..
HIMALAYA and Typhoon user are just lucky that someone managed to leak it for distribution .. but this leak version is not official and prohibited .. and believe it some people are sometimes risking for this copy .. (dont ask why plss)

It's just WM2003.
There is a ROM Version 3.04.00 that is WM2003SE. But there are some problems with this ROM. Only big difference between WM2003 and WM2003SE is the landscape mode. So I would suggest stay at your working ROM version....

Hi Rudegar
Thanks for the reply I also have similar original versions of the O2 Australia Firmware and am wanting to upgrade.
I use the O2 Bluetooth head set which I would also like to keep using (I've noticed a few people having issues with some upgrade versions)
Please could someone send me a link where I can download the most stable/updated ROM for my Australian XDA II.
Sorry Rudegar for asking for links but I am so confused when trying to search for this, I never know what one to use and there are so many around.
I would also like to (IF POSSIBLE) get an upgrade ROM that is automated like O2 original ROM's, one EXE that extracts and does it all for you... no commands or lots of text to read though and try and work out how to do it all....
MANY THANKS!!!!!
Hope someone can help me out!

Is this also for the Australian Version of XDA II?
i've never heard of a special australian rom
Cool, thanks for the fast reply!
Ya I think Australia uses the Asian Rom?? but not 100% about that :-(
I though you needed your countrys rom so that you can select what telco's settings to use?
I am with Telstra as my phone provider. would you mind having a quick look and seeing if you can select Telstra if you have this rom already installed on your phone :-D
Many thanks for your efforts!
