Well first off i'm miffed and  :? with this Exec
I 'know' it's a capable machine, I know it's pretty cool, I know it's sought after and all of that, but this is the first time I've felt really 'let down' by a product's functionality so soon out of the box - in fact it was a let down as soon as it came out the box!!!
My previous Xda2i and the current one I'm borrowing off my friend work flawlessly. I posted my little 'issue' but no one has come back with any further insight and such a 'small' issue is really turning me off using the exec any further.
My Outlook 2003, via ActiveSync 4.1 - only about a quarter of my 'contacts' list shows up on the Exec. No amount of setting it to 'show all contacts' shows them up.
I've got a workaround, I have to manually delete all the missing contacts from Outlook, and then re-enter them one by one - they'll then show up.
This means over 60 deletions, and then re-typing.
Maybe it's a 'known issue' or is a 'bug' within this setup - but pretty poor if basic functionality like this is up the spout.
I updated to the latest O2 ROM - same thing.
For the last 4 days, this 'Executive' PDA has been nothing but a paperweight on my desk - so I'm thinking if there's no 'fix' or 'settings' to show all the contacts, I might as well just sell it off. (before you ask - during the sync - it does show '83' contacts - so I know they're in the 'exec' somewhere!)
I'll try out the K Jam / Xda Mini next - if that has the same issue, then I'm just gonna buy anotherXda2i !
Has anyone come across this before? (cant seem to find anything using search) anyone know of how to resolve?!
I'm guessing not seeing the single response to my last post - I might give it one last big effort when I have time over the weekend to really dig and sig around the web, and maybe ask O2 etc else I'll seriously consider just selling it off!
You Exec fans here will be the first to know if I do!
Cheers for reading out my Rant/Help request!!

hi.
I remember seeing something about this before on another forum but can't remember where.
I think it is something to do with "File as" field. If on outlook you change the view to "By category" you should see your contacts in a line by line list. if you add the "File as" field, do they all have one?
You could add all the contact fields to the view in outlook and then compare the Outlook entries of the missing ones to the ones you see on the Exec and see if anything is different - ie. Is the File As field set on them all, is the Full Name field set on them both etc...
I;ll see if I can see the post/info I saw before, but that could be worth a try.
I have a number of Pocket PC's here and an exchange server running. If you want to export all your contacts into a PST and email me a copy I will see if I can import into a mailbox, and do a Outlook 2003/AActiveSync 4.1 test with one of my spare Execs...Send me a PM if you want to discuss this option!
Merlin
Hi rbmerlin
Thanks very much for the prompt reply! I shall PM you about this - I appreciate the offer! I just hope something can be resolved out of it!
Give me a few days to get back to you - real busy at the moment!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!
The only other thing I can think of is that your Outlook on the PC needs upgrading??
Export
i know its not a resolution for the problem but if deleting them and re creating them seems to work, have you tried exporting all the contacts in outlook to a pst, then deleting them all, then re importing them all. Might solve the problem for now.
Who knows ?
Rob.
Hi!
Riceburner - Outlook 2003 is the latest version, and has been updated via the MS online update site - so I doubt it's anything to do with that. Also, When I edit a contact I can see on my laptop Outlook screen, hit save & close the Exec shows the Icon for data arriving/syncing and makes the confirmation bleep. To me that suggests the record is indeed in the Exec, just not being displayed.
rjefferis - I might give something like this a go. I'll export them to an Excel file just to have a backup and then try exporting again to a .PST, deleting and re-importing.
I personally think there's some flag in Outlook that changes a 'characteristic' - over time as I've added other contacts, maybe I didn't add in the same way or haven't added a certain detail (or something!) to make a set of contacts 'dfferent' from another set' ( I can't think of what really, I just click 'add new contact' fill in bits and click 'save and close' !
With more investigating I'm sure some sort of reason will come out of it - be it a 'setup' difference issue or a bug or a hardware conflict or something!
For now it's just annoying as such a simple procedure appears flawed!
I'll get to email rbmerlin at some point - right now I gotta go talk the dog for a walk !
Never enough time !
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!
Is there anyway to enable the way when I typed in any Contact's Birthdate and it will automatically show in Calendar which i don't need to add it for the 2nd time in Calendar???
You don't have to add the birthday again manually.
It will automatically become an ALL DAY EVENT for that day itself.

Try to tap on the day of your friend's birthday and you should be able to see it as an ALL DAY EVENT.

Bye
If you are will to spend 15 EUR, go for Thumbcal, it automatically includes birthdays as events in your calendar. If you don't wanna spend that sum, search for a tool named Darkanniv on Modaco or Google.
http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/download-ct-birthday-v0-9.html
I requested something similar as well. I would also like my phone to have an actual notification sound on bdays. I will try that CT bday exe
update: ct birfday doesnt install on wm6.5 i guess. Installation of cab always unsuccessful. maybe i should reboot both my systems.
is there any way to show up the contact's birthdate without adding any 3rd party app? i know there is a way which mentioned in the previous post, which is through outlook sync, but i don't use outlook as well, any help?
Well there's a pretty easy way to do it but you need to do just a little bit more work. I do this and it's pretty easy. All you need to do is go to the exact birthdate of your contact so say James was born on 15th March 1985, So i would go to 15th March 1985 and set up his birthday there as a recurring all day event with Alarm. Now not only will your phone alert you of the birthday every year but it will also tell you how many years old he is that year with the age in brackets... Third party software like thumbcal really makes things easy but it's not necessary once you're used to doing this...

hahaha, what a cute way to solve this problem, although i know it'll take a longer time to do it, but i think it works, thx anyway, but i do really hope to have an easier way which when i insert it to contact's birthday and it will automatically show up in calendar, thx for the method, will try out then
Sync with Outlook
Outlook looks at contact birthdays and automatically puts them in your calendar. When you sync, they'll be there on your device calendar as well

I have this problem too - id much prefer a reminder a few days before and the actual day? Maybe its something to do with using outlook instead of google for calendar
If anyone has got around this please advise. It maybe worth looking in the Hero forum as they have the same calendar app on the hero.

Can't be because of Outlook, I entered all birthday's manually and it reminds me a month before. Tried reentering all of them, no luck.
I installed ebobirthday that syncronyze itself with the calendar, I have to test it well but seems fine.
Hey guys. Did an extensive search and Im 99.9% sure this hasnt been covered here before. The only solution was on cnet and it doesnt seem to be working.
Anyhow, is there a way to get push email for Hotmail on the HD2?
Windows Live Messenger application will give you push email.
Watch out for the Sync Contacts check box when you set it up, it will merge your email address contacts with your phone contacts and cause a right mess. you have been warned!

So I signed into WLM, left it running and sent an email, but I didnt recieve any notifications. I had to hit the send/recieve option to retrieve the email.
Im starting to regret getting this phone. So many issues, and its just the first day.
You have to go the sync schedule and choose for items to come as they arrive. you can set what you want it to do in peak and off peak times, and then define what you want as peak and off peak if i recall correctly
mate, its "not so many issues"...its just the first day. When i got my first WM and fisrt smart phone aswell, which was the touch HD, i wasnt too impressed until i started flashing roms, and learnt how the device works. give it time, its honestly far more interesting than most phones, WM phones are the first phones where i havent lost interest in a phone after owning it for a while (as happens with all devices! and im somewhat of a tech geek )

Nice one mate. Ill have a look into it.
Yeah, I guess my sentiments are a little premature. Just need to adjust after owning BB's for the last 8 years.
Thanks for the advice, and Ill let you know how I get on.
that is no 'true' push mail and setting it to as items arive will couse a lot of battery drain its just that the free hotmail accounts don't support that feature.
What is push email then? i always assumed its when items arrive as they come :\
I forward my hotmail along with all my accounts to my gmail. This way I get true push email, contacts and calendar.
again, what IS "true" push email! please someone enlighten me...
