Do we have a Special Edition WM 2003 ROM?? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Please dont bash me, if this has been answered.. but, I searched and couldnt find tha answer.. (n00b!)
Also, if somebody could tell me how I can cook a ROM that REMOVES all T-Mobile CRAP (like pdf viewers, etc)...
That way, I can have additional memory for my apps (32 is not enough on my XDA)..
Thanks

If i may quote one of the developers:
Special Edition Roms are out, Rom ccoking is in.....
So this would be the one and only "special edition".

Thanks for the reply LumpiStefan!
I cooked the ROM for my XDA 1, using your website. It is great, but, please tell me how I can remove the crap ClearVue programs, and other STUFF that T-Mobile puts in the ROM..
Is it possible that I can install only the RAW Microsoft distributed Pocket PC Phone Edition?
(I just want to maximize the space on my ROM)...
Thanks for the great site! Super!
Thanks in advance for replies..!

This is totally the opposit idea of the kitchens ... ROM space is wasted anyway if it's not filled with s/w ... you can't use it as RAM
go ahead and fill it with much s/w as you can

Announcing XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.1

Version 1.1 of the Special Edition ROM is now out:
Fixed:
- Based on O2 3.17.03 ROM: annoying reply to SMS bug fixed
- Everyone can now use GPRS
- Pocket IE opens GPRS connection
- Serial ActiveSync now works
- Minor issues and cosmetics
New:
- Brand new version of dbView tool
- EzWAP2
- Our own band switch tool for US users, switch between all three bands
(no guarantee your hardware supports it, but at least you can now try)
This is now officially the coolest ROM for you, no matter where you live...
See the mkrom page for details on how to build this ROM (difficult), or wait for some kind soul to build the EXE, and just download and run it (easy).
Thanks a lot for your effort. I've really enjoyed the possibility to create my own ROM.
Is it possible to get a look on the source code of that welcome.exe app? So far it 's the only closed thing in your package.
thanks
XDA-developers ROM v1.1 installer
Thanks to Andre, who was online during the announcement and who sent me a message, I must have broken some speed records:
Click here to download a new and tested version of Special Edition ROM v1.1. Simply run the exe and presto...
This version fixes most if not all of the problems some people had with the 1.0 release. Thanks to the XDA-developers for doing such cool work, and for making their instructions easy to follow...

The source is online: http://xda-developers.com/mkrom/welcome101-src.zip . The source for the welcome in the previous ROM was available too. Look at the mkrom page for details...
Let us know if you come across cool tricks we could incorporate in our ROMs too.
oh, to my previous post:
nevermind, my wish is granted, found the sources on the mkrom page.

update
jeff summers, you are a prince amongst men! Ta!
This is wonderful.
My PIE & ActiveSync over GPRS are now working well with this ROM + AT&T SX56 radion on my T-mobile USA device.
Thanks again XDA Developers, and Jeff for being so 'quick' with his help!
cheers,

Jeff you're like greased lightning!!! Well done to the boys and girls at xda-developers for this update, it seriously rocks!! MaxIreland and "guest" refered to a prog called sms-char-counter....
freeware tool written from a user at a german xda forum. it's an sms-char-counter

OK silly question...
I am here in the uk...
Last time i tried to flash my xda with the radio upgrade i lost all functions on the device and had to send it back to the service centre to be repaired...
If i run the exe that has beed kindly created is there any chance of screwing up my device again!...
I would be running via USB and the docking station that came with the decive!..
I want to do this but am a little worried after the last incident!...

thx for your great work.
is there any "diff" tool for ce, so that i know what ezwap2.5 or other programs (like an sms-counter) are installing exactly for using with mkrom?
if i got you right, then i need all files installed and all registry-entries?
is there any install-tracker on ce?
Jabba
Two questions:
Is EzWap version 2.5 MMS or 2
When you say:
"- Everyone can now use GPRS"
What do you mean exactly by this ?
Because we have a serious problem with our local operator: they "upgraded" the GPRS system (by Erickson) last week, and since then, all GPRS on Pocket PC's stopped connecting. Is the new ROM the solution ?
ezwap 2.5 has got MMS
is there a program on the new ROM which can open pdf files instead of acrobat reader?
Thanks Jeff and you wonderfull developers, This ROM is great and I didn't have to mess arround in UNIX to install it.
thx man gonna try it soon !
installed it but the autoconfig still doesn't work on my xda ?
SMS-Counter Software to include in ROM
u'll find it here (german thread in forum):
http://www.ppc-welt-community.de/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21372&highlight=smscounter
Try it.... it sits as small programm in the taskbar naming "start" (because it's right over the start button).. it runs always... taking nearly no cpu-time. when u start to write a sms then it begins to count (like nokia).

HELP I need help converting back to Windows CE

HELP ME PLEASE !!!!!!
I downloaded the XDA special edition ROM but I want to convert back to Windows CE or Windows 2002.
I am new with one of these and have absolutly no idea what I am doing.
Can anyone help me.
I made a huge mistake and hopefully someone out there can help me fix it.
Thank you!!
XDA Developers ROM is a PPC2002 OS ... what's wrong with it ?
or you mean you want your old original ROM ?
I would like my old original ROM...
O, man!
How could you! SER v1.2 is the best 2002 ROM ever produced! You just ignore or erase things you don't need!
What exactly you do not like about it?
Colors? There are tons of software to change it, most of it have very useful functions (WisBar)!
Programs running on StartUp? \Windows\Startup and erase the link!
Equipement? Lots of freeware included in the very ROM - the best way to save memory - my system now takes 3.8Mb, the rest is FREE!
+ Tweakers
+ No SIM lock
+ Useful stuff I had to pay for is now included for free (freeware alternatives of progs I used - Calculator, Browsers...)
+ SIM Toolkit, Players, Messagers, Launchers, Stopwatch, Personal Ringtones...
Conclusion: the only way to make me leave this ROM is to produce WM2003-based one!
Think twice before you do so!
ok, but we wait for one for XDAII too!!

[Universal] Extended ROM unlocker !!!!!!!

YES YES YES
!!i just made extended ROM unlocker for Universal!!
THIS TOOL IS DEDICATED TO MWANG
get it here
Please test it and let me know...
It is very early release, so it does only unlock.
Later, i'll add also locking.
For unhiding Extended ROM i just need to create cab file.
Otherwise it's ready as well... Meanwhile you can display your extended ROM using TotalCommander for CE.
How to unlock:
Just copy it to your device and run it..

on hardreset, all customisations are run from Extended_ROM.
By default it is locked for writing with a password.
That means, you cannot add or remove programs, which are autoinstalled on coldinit.
Now you can.

Thank you very much....
Buzz,
Thanks for working on this. I realize that a lot of people are looking forward to "freeing" up memory by deleting the extended ROM (i.e. Big Storage). I'm one of them. Here's my question: Does this allow you to delete the files in EXT ROM? If so, are they PERMANENTLY deleted? Or can I "restore" them by reflashing my ROM from the ROM Image provided from imate's website? Sorry for the newbie questions.

Unlocking Extended ROM allows you to delete or add files into Extended ROM.
Files are permanently deleted or added.
Once you flash the device with new ROM, which contains ms.nbf (Extended ROM image), it's content is then flashed to the Extended ROM. That means there will be new content in there...
This is my first contrib to Universal, Exec, JJ community...
Next step can be the same as i did on Himalaya.
To get more storage space, e.g. remove the Extended ROM partition and make the Storage partition 10MB bigger.
well, if anyone wants that... ))

Thanks for the good work.. really really useful and save lot's of efforts to customize the machine after a complete installtion.
Keep up the good work.
where do i send it to?
Here Buzz
Excuse my lack of expertise, in PC terms is this similar to having a copy of the uninstalled o/s on your harddrive and is only required when you wanted to reinstall your o/s?
If so, would it be possible to empty the rom and only place one cab file which loaded all the required cab from SD? i.e. copy the rom to an SD and then be able to hard reset using the SD to reload the o/s?
How much space does the rom take up?
Regards
Simon
Cool Buzz! he is the man!! But....do i understand if u ru
Yoo Buzzie Buzz
Listen i have an question and a problem..the tool is cool no doubt about that. Now we can exclude some unecessary programs etc.
But my main question is does this remove the Simlock aswell? ?!? ?
Because there are a lot of people who cant use their MDA PRO properly because it has an simlock of T-Mobile......if this does not remove the simlock could you make an program that does...? I think it is now quitte easy cause the ext. rom is an open way.....
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BUZZ and all others.....Help and make an Sim Unlock tool just like you all dit before for the Himalaya etc. etc.

Loading WinMobile 5 Without Built-in Apps

I have searched before posting this.
What I want to do is to reload Winmobile 5 onto my TyTN WITHOUT the built-in apps like calendar, word, etc also being loaded in. I would like to load up the phone app but not anything else.
Can this be done please? If so how?
Thanks
WB
I'm not an expert...but think you could try to cook your own ROM; modify the existing WM5 ROM you have and remove all the things you dont want to be there....
I don't know if the existing tools posted in the forum could also be used to modify a WM5 ROM...but could give it a try if you want.
Regards;
Mablan
Mablan,
I was hoping it was a rather more simple process, such as using a special sequence of the bootloader to do this, rather than have to cook ROMS. Appreciate the thought though.
Anyone else able to throw some light on this question?
Thanks
WB

I am afraid most of the programmes are part of the operating system and you will not find a rom here customised to your specs, the last poster was right if you want a stripped out rom to your specs you had better get cooking that is the only way. Look on the Wiki under Hermes for the info you need if you are into D.I.Y.
Guys,
Thanks for the info. Ah well, looks like I'm either off to find a cooked ROM or I live with what I have got.
Cheers
WB

stable wm6

which wm6/6.1 release is more stable?
Why not try them and see?
So many people come on here looking to be spoon fed...people will tolerate it up to a point, but then wont bother.
You really should try them yourself and test them...try reading through the relevant threads and see what people are saying about them.
they all are... tried and tested by many....
some have bugs(unsupported features)
and you can find all of them in this forum.
it only depends on what you install on them.
i hv tried all and think that the clean version of wm6.1(6.1.02 DVH) without Ramdisk is best cause it has both the netcf and office(excel+word) and also the mystrious theme for media player. All other version either hv the netcf or the office and the version without netcf requires the netcf to run their primary applictions (GettingStarted, calc, usb hdd, etc.) so u hv to loose ur 5mb to run them.
In clean version gettingStarted is removed to put office as it is more important.
So give it a chance u will find it worth.

it seems you have a lot of pocketpc's. is the blue angel one of them? you cannot use a ROM not intended for your device.
i only have a BA and 575 SP.
sorry for asking, i'm too busy now with work.
i also like wm6.1 without ramdisk, but i'm confuse with the extrom they're talking about.
do i really have to install extrom?
and is there a way to put all installed programs and contacts, messages to storage card?
thanks for your big HELP.

you can opt NOT to install extrom. just don't copy the folder (and its contents) to your storage card, so it won't install when you upgrade ROM's.
i'm not sure if you can copy all programs to the storage card, so you can put them back when you upgrade.
a) if you have exe files, then it is ok.
b) but if these programs came from cab files, then you can use the EXTROM to install these straightaway. or you can install them one by one
c) otherwise, you have to install them from your computer.
with respect to contacts and messages, this post is your answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1189061&postcount=1
i have pda2k, which has 128 ram and 64mb rom (accdg to gsmarena). is extrom already included in the 64mb rom? the xdaIIs has 96mb rom (44mb available).
the extrom folder from the sd has cab files which is to be installed automatically when you upgrade your rom, is that it?

Simple: The ones without any additional cruft, bling, or dancing monkeys added.
Remember - most if not all of these ROMs are based on the same fundamental base (barring the fakes, or hacks). It's generally only what the ROM chefs personally want to have added which makes the difference. And even those things can be 'fixed' or overwritten with installers/CABs.
I've had my philosophical 'rant' already ...

i think u should check the wiki first.
Storage(60)-Storage available (44)=Extendedrom(16)
so u dont hv 96mb its 60 mb only. and before upgrading do not forget to merge extended rom to available storage to get more space.
thanks for correcting me.
i also read about page pool, i think the ext rom is used for that, does it really improved performance?
how can i backup and reinstall my original rom?

there are more to come. So help me find one of the most stable and best WM6 or WM6.1.
