SECURITY CONCERNS - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I raised this subject a while back on this site but the replies I had didn't seem too worried.
Eat your words guys!

This will be the first of an increasing number of vulberabilities and exploits. Does anyone know of a Firewall for an XDA II please? Can I run something like Zone Alarm or does the App have to be adapted to run on a pocket PC?

I dont see the xda2 mentioned in that list.

Fonts/Language Support for XDA2

Hi there,
As with some I am new to the world of XDA. I never new this kind of subculture existed!
Firstly thank you to the volunteers who have put a lot of effort in to getting a site like this up and running! Well done.
I should get to my point now...has anyone got a comprehensive list of characters/fonts the XDA2 can display. I have checked the official pages, and also the XDA itself but I am pretty dissapointed with the level of support. I surf lots of pages and also communicate in a number of languages namely Eng/Jap/Kor. But I cannot find any patch to enable display of these languages?
Asking the offical support sites gets the usual response of "We are thinking about it, but have nothing in the pipeline".
This is very frustrating.
If anyone knows when/where I can get this kind of patch I/we would be mutually greatful.
Cheers
Mebius

Few Questions From Forum Newbie! (Ip, ActiveSync and Skins!)

Hi all! Been reading for for about a month. Sites saved my life about 5 times now, but have a few questions i couldn't find, so hoping someone could point me in the right direction!
I'm using a XDAiis. Less than a month old. Removed that o2 icon and stability is up 110%. I use the WiFi allot in my home, but as a Network engineer by trade, would like to see and perhaps change my Ip address and other settings and so forth. Is their any FREE 3rd party apps, or perhaps a Pocket PC Version on command prompt?
Also, i've seen a few people mentioning using active sync over the WiFi. couldn't find a thread explaining how to do this, as i can't seem to work it out :?: (Must be doing something wrong  )
And lastly, are their any sites where i can download dialer skins? As all i have at the moment is the o2 and Windows defaults.
Thanks in advance to anyone who read this!...

GPS-coupled reminder & to-do-lists

Hi all,
I'm neither a software developer nor an harcore techie, just a plain PPC user, but after crawling the web for days and nights I feel this forum is the only place where I can find an answer to my question. Admins, please forgive me if this is not the right spot and feel free to move my post to a most appropriate location.
I'm looking for a location-sensitive reminder & to-do list app for GPS-enabled cellphones; for example, you could drive nearby a drugstore and the device would remind you that you need to buy some particular medicine. Or, if you're near the video store, it can remind you of a movie you wanted to rent.
I know the concept exists and has been used by a student for his Ph.D, but AFAIK I never found anything similar. I really hope some of you experts have an answer to this.
Thanks a million in advance
If something like this could get programmed for a pocket pc it would probably be a gold mine. Currently not many ppc's have GPS built in but the number is growing quickly.

That could be a very good application. I also think it's not so difficult to implement.
Very good idea!
Marshall
awesome idea.......i used to use a garmin ique3600 with palm 5 on it...in the calendar function you could assign specific addresses/.......sooo as you went through your day hyou could just click on "meet john doe..." hit route me to it button and off you went.....my trinity shows up in a few days and i have not seen any calendar function that does this, or what you have described.....does anyone know how to assign 1 location to a calendar activity?

[Q]/[REQ]silence/vibrate to ring via sms

Saw yesterdays American dad episode when Stan was searching for his phone which he had lost, and he had set it to vibrate mode and therefore he could not call the phone... his wife "said" something smart
"why cant you just invent like a code, you dial the phone and enter the code and it switches to another profile" something like that...
Now a phone-call couldn't be possible, but how about via a text-message?
I'm not a programmer so i don't know the limitations of the API(?) in the TD but it should be possible i.e scan a (incoming) text-message for a specific code and then call a function to switch profile / turn up the volume
well well, just an idea thrown out
to all programmers and chefs @ XDA - just love the work you're doing!
Remote Tracker
You mean an application like Remote Tracker?
You could ask someone with knowledge of that app to help you out, or maybe it already exists!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394203
already exists. smsRunner
hello !
@fnotsje
thank for the tip about remote tracker, but I already have it in subscribed threads, maybe going to the first page a little more often is something I'll have to work on
@bbobeckyj
thank you for the tip, will check it out
*note to self - search a few times extra when in middle of the night*

WinMo Security Management

Hi there!
I might have missed any other threads discussing the following but unfortunately I couldn't find a related topic by searching for the term security. Actually, the search function didn't return anything when entering the string "security". Anyways, let's get started:
A friend of mine recently got a HTC Legend and told me a very intersting story. When installing a simple battery app, the installer asked him to gain permission to access his contact list, his gps coordinates and many other things. This made me currious in terms of: is there any way in WinMo enabling the same permission check before installing an application?
Regards,
Zoimt
Nope, I don't think so.
You may enable the security policy that will ask you every time you run a new cab or file, but still it won't show you what "connections", "resources" or "devices" does the app use.
That is weak, very weak and disappointing... I wouldn't care at all if I hadn't got mobile internet just recently. This actually is a no-go. I gotta get rid of this windows crap this instant. But on the other hand, this just sounds typically windows to me...
There isn't any piece of software that can do such things like monitoring which service accesses what resources? I better have a closer look at the WinMo api, smells like money. I just need people to get as scared as I'm right now...
::Edit::
Jeees, I just saw that I posted this in the wrong forum. I want to excuse for that, must have missclicked, wanted this to appear in the Software forum. Please forgive me peeps. Have a nice!

Try Spb Wireless monitor, also WMLongLife has some monitoring features.
I use Dialup Enabler/Disabler to disable my 3G connection when I don't need it so I do not pay at all.

No problem for me, I'm not a mod to judge this
Well the Android security system is little more enhanced here. but at the end of day it there's no mechanism to give you 100% security.
Sure you can refuse to install a wallpaper app that asks for your location permissions. but if you install some location aware app then there's no guarantee that it doesn't collect your private data and upload it on some websites....
