Lanscape Mode For PocketNester - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hey everyone. I heard (read) about the Mobile 2003SE with the Lanscape mode. CAN'T WAIT!!! I have a question though. I remember seeing some software that will do it for you as a stand alone program that will run some compatibility issues when trying to run certian programs. I have just upgraded to the new 4.01.16 rom and had included Pocketnester the best NES emulator I have found for these devices... Is there a way to force it to do lanscape mode??? It would be perfect to map your directional pad on the left and have the contacts and calandar buttons mapped as A and B which I currently have now but I have to hold it from the top and side. It would be awesome if I could get it to work right without having to wait for SE. Thanks

Awesome Software. I downloaded the trial version and it is cool. You can virtualy change the resolution, and re orient the screen. it seems that the operating system and all of the windows applications are already set to go lanscape they all filled the screen and didn't display anything past the lower half of the 240 pixels when it was oriented. All of my programs ran at the lanscape orientation (some better than others) except the pocket nester... the whole reason I was hoping to get software like this.
I have a question on the topic. I know it is an operating system that runs on our beolved cellphones as well but how are they going to re build the phone app screen. I don't see much of a fiesable way to do it in lanscape mode. it is probably something we will have to see O2 or T-Mo set up then set it up in the kitchen Is there any other ways people will be able to rewrite the phone app so it can run on the lanscape mode?
The phone does run in lanscape mode but you can't see anything past the 456 row you can't see the 789 or the *0# or the Send/End button.
who has a possible solution to this potential problem?

screen rotation software please

Does any one know where I can get the software to switch views on the xda2 screen between portrait & landscape formats ? When I am trying to view spread sheets it becomes extreemly frustraiting having to scroll accross every time I want to view things !!! :x
hey mate,
when i was still using my xda1 i tried out 2 kinds of software; ny-something (forgot the name) and another one called jslandscape. the ny works better but i never got the correct settins to make the appearance right (based on resolution). and the worse part is to uninstall the sucker you have to do a hard reset. now that i'm using an xda2 i haven't heard of anyone successfully using either of the 2 softwares i mentioned; a friend of mine had to do a hardreset after trying it out on his unit. my 2 cents worth is that be VERY careful when you decide to try out orientation software; make sure you back up your data well.

Have a look at http://www.nyditot.com/
I never testesed it but it seems very good (pocketpc award 2003)

I use nyditot quite a lot, at 480x360 landscape for terminal services and web browsing, and it works perfectly. Note that there were issues with PC2003 until recently, so make sure you get the latest version.
I beleive you can uninstall it without a hard reset. However, you need to do a soft reset between screen changes which can be a bit irritating.
Also, the SIP is scaled too, so can be a bit fiddly to use at finer resolutions, although I rather like it tiny.
I just wish PPC devices would start to use, and properly support, the new 640x480 screens that are becoming standard on Palm5 devices.
I also use the nyditot software. I first started using it when I had an iPAQ but since it works with WM2003 is was able to migrate to my XDA II

PointUI HOME application

Have any of you guys given this a go yet? http://www.pointui.com/
Its a major improvement over the Standard windows mobile home screen and gives an easier to use interface with your finger.
No ROM cooking involved just install over the top of windows mobile 5 or 6. Its kinda like an improved today screen.
I downloaded it today and I have to say its made me alot happier using the phone without a stylus.
It has just been released and is free to use on any windows mobile device.
Take a look...

But it doesn't support VGA devices?? - Mike
Shame it doesnt support true vga 96 dpi......however its really nice looking and i like imput/design ui a lot, wallpaper and color scheme should be user defined.
it does work in 96dpi, kind of, I think we need to resize one or two of the backgrounds to make it work well.
not gone through the jif files yet, I'm presuming it'll be one of those.
they got a fix for that now, a temporary one on their website
Hi,
I have installed this application but I didn't really like it the way I was expecting it to perform. The problem is, I can't get rid of it now. I have removed the program from remove program but it still shows the 'Home' option on the task bar.
Can anyone help me to remove this program?

Hi
I am usining it on 128 and 96 dpi
Works fine but when putting in pin for fone the buttons have all tobe touched to see them and then use clear and then enter the pin as u can now see the buutons ???
Any way to fix this ???
good stuff, i like it here ,works good with my HTC PPC 6800
I think once finalized, this could indeed be a killer application for the Athena as it encompasses all areas usually only accessible through the native WM O/S, but in a much more stylish and finger touch pleasing way.

What exactly is RealVGA and is every software available compatible with it??

I saw some i780 images with RealVGA and I just have to admit it was the best square screen I have even seen for a PPC. This seems precisely what I want for my screen. Could someone please explain what exactly is it, and how it works? and if all softwares are automatically compatible with it, or would I have to sacrifice my software collection in order to use it???
BTW, what screen resolutions does it work with and would my Treo 750 support it??
I always thought you needed a VGA screen to use realVGA or anything like that, so i don't think it would be possible on a treo. Then again i'm not entirely sure so i would wait for someone else to confirm.
RealVGA, essentially, makes everything smaller.
The point of this is to take advantage of a high resolution screen (since WM doesn't). In your case, it will probably make windows unusable as the 240x240 resolution would end up making text so small that it's illegible.
It's mainly meant for 640x480 screens although 480x480 as well as 320x320 screens appear to be usable.
RealVGA, or TrueVGA as I like to call it, basically disables pixel-doubling that WM uses to make all programs work well. This can really only be used on devices that have more pixels than 320x240. So a VGA screen of 640x480 will show 4x the about of data in TrueVGA mode as it would in normal mode.
The downside is that not all programs will work properly. This is a developer issue, and it is best to contact them to resolve this problem. I would suggest putting your device into TrueVGA mode and trying out the programs that you use, and see if you are happy with the results.
I have put a package together in the link below that you can use for testing purposes, and see if it is something you like or not.
Personally I only every use my device in TrueVGA mode as I hate the lost space as a result of the large icons on my x51v. But it will come down to personal preference and you are best to try and see for yourself.
Cheers

RealVGA actually changes your dpi. The stock i780 is using 128dpi which is something not common. Most devices are using 96 dpi. I believe RealVGA was written is to maximize the available screen. Of course with 96 dpi, the letters are also smaller, and it might pose some difficulty in readin texts on the screen.
However, others are still using RealVGa mainly one can maximize the screen. Also, the display though small, makes it look more sharp.
As to the programs, I'm not sure what you have. For myself, I am using PocketCM (modded to fit in the i780), Audio Manager and the Diamond WM Player Skin (modded to fit in the i780). I also installed the HTC Today plugin.
I also had modded SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 (I've since uninstalled it), I have SBSH Weather (using slikkie's sbsh weather skin). Quite a few software can run under RealVGA, it depends on what you have actually.
Hope this helps.
after install realVGA, my i780 can't make or receive VIDEO CALL

Search for the nadavi 3g dialer for i780. Install and you will be able to make video calls.

How to integrate other application

Hi Folks,
I have a Touch Diamond 2 and having problems with software running in 640x480 mode (like ScummVM). I know there are workarounds, but I thought it would be nicer to use the leftover space. As there are no buttons for quicksave, or something like that, I would like to make a 160pixel software button application. I made some tests already. But now I don't know how to load ScummVM (for examlpe) in my application. If i start it from my application, it hides my keyboard. Or do you have an other idea?
THX in advance

Running Full-screen games and apps in WM

Hi, i have a HTC Shift x9500 with a liberated snapvue (original danish ROM)
I was wondering if there is a way to install and run a single game in full-screen? (like Palm-heroes or Age of Empires)
I know they need to start in portrait mode, and i have tried to set the display in portrait mode with "kaisoft screen rotator", but when i start a game, its just white screen..
Is there any way, to make it work - the best would be if i DONT need to flash a new ROM (because some bad experiences)

BUMP
No one, have a solution?
Video drivers are not complet. They lack a lot of routines to make games work. Even when they work, they are slow and input doesn't work properly.
Game that work: resco defender
Thats not good news
Well.. Snapvue is smart - but could be better
