Alvin... Try this.
Firstly, turn bluetooth ON, on your phone, in the normal way.
Then, in File Explorer, tap AND HOLD, on an image file, til the context menu pops up (you are probably already doing this anyway, if you say you can send by IR).
Then select the option to "BEAM FILE" to send the image.
Now this is the informative bit... In the screen that then appears, you will see a magnifying glass icon or two - one for Infra Red beaming, the other one meaning it is still searching for devices.
What you SHOULD also have IF another BT device is in range, is a kind of standard radio transmit indicator, of a circle or dot, with radial rings coming out from it (or at least something similar, as I am going of the top of my head here). THIS is the indicator for a BLUETOOTH device. You will have a few of these in the list, if there is more than one device in range
Its a slow discovery process, but after a while, this indicator, will have an identification code alongside it - this is the hexadecimal notation for the device you wish to send it to.
Leave it searching for a while, and this will then change to the proper name of the other device.
At that point, you can then tap SEND where it indicates, to beam the file by BT.
Note - for it to send, the receiving phone needs to be set up to receive files, be discoverable etc etc.
And as a note, for the XDA2 to be able to receive files, the option to Recieve incoming beams, needs to be ON too - this is often forgotten.
See the screen shots I have knowcked up for more info...
hey thxs for tht ppl, i will try what you said 2moro Shadamehr thx. i went to tht link but unfortuneatly it aint really helped, its more to do with power saving n stuff, not sendin files.
erm i do have another question tho, i have a fellin the answers gonna be no. Can i use my bluetooth headset as normal earpiece/mic for system sounds etc not just phone calls?
thx for ur help
Not with the current bluetooth software.
fair dos, ill just av to wait!
but back to the bluetooth manager, why dont i have one? do all xda2's not have one??
and i still havent managed to send owt yet, but i aint tried to hard yet, ill keep at it!
The Microsoft Bluetooth implentation is very different from the ones you'll find on Ipaq machines, which use the Widcomm Bluetooth stack. It seems like a lot of functionality is missing on the Microsoft one, but in fact a lot is there; it's just not logically organised. Downloading and installing the Bluetooth tools linked above will provide some of the features you probably think you're missing. Try it!
Hope this helps.

Hey!
I just recently tried to share photo's with my girlfriend's Sony Ericsson T610. I can set up the bond ok, I can send pictures from her phone to my XDAII, but I cant send pictures (or contacts) from mine to hers.
I go to "beam file" select her device, & tap to send........ then it states "sending file 1/1" but that's it, you can see that a transfer is beinng attempted on her phone's display, but the prompt to accept or reject the file never appears. It takes something like 10mins for the XDA to report the failure, and you cannot seem to cancel the transfer - the word cancelling comes up, but then the screen freezes (you can still get to other applications throught the start bar)
Has anyone lese had this problem - will it be fixed by the bluetooth update, or the o2 update..... or anything?
cheers.
I have had exactly the same problem, same situation with a T610, 3 months ago on original ROM.
Haven't tried it after the ROM upgrade though. I'm anxious to know too.
whoops..me too..
it freeezes when i try to send files over BT to other phones!
Hmm..And I can't install BT Tools because it disable ActiveSync via Bluetooth..hmm..
Will try other thirdy part software..
Might have a POTENTIALLY useful piece of info for you here folks...
You see, I'm originally an Orange E200 SPV Smartphone user.
Sad as it might sound, there is NO inbuilt functionality in the phone (Windows Mobile 2003 based) for sending files by BT.
So some clever people who write a third party software File Manager app - Smart Explorer I think it is, decided to include there own support for Bluetooth sending of files in the program.
BUT - this is where things may start getting interesting...
What they found was that with the first beta, phones just like the SE T610 for example, could not receive files.
Testing by them, found that this was because certain types of phones could not receive files via BT, when sent at full transmit protocol speed, and no facility existed for them to simply 'drop down' to lowest common speed.
How they got around this, was by including an option, in the next version of their program, to include a little tick box, to "Send at full speed".
Thus, by default, lower speed is used, so as to ensure full compatibility.
But if you KNOW the device you were sending to supports full speed, you can just check the "Full speed" box as it is sending, at it switches to faster speed.
Relating all that babble and background info to the XDA2 etc, it isn't too far a leap of knowledge, to wonder if the same problem applies, whereby the XDA2 defaults to sending files by BT at FULL transmit protocol speeds, and of course, certain phones, such as the T610, can't receive at this speed, and simply sit there confused.
A guess, nothing more. But based on my experiences of the E200 smartphone, and what the problem was then, I can't help but suspect that the problem of certain phones not being able to negotiate full speed BT transfer, is what might be the issue here too.
Just a thought...
..And so..For transfer Files via BT we Must wait for WM2k3 SE?
..Ehm,Maybe u will find it useful:
I tryed transfer files to Nokia 3650,6600 (Symbian 60 and 70 phones) and sometimes the phones receive the files (but my XDA2 freezes and contiunue show me Sending...) and sometimes freezes at all and don't send nothing.
Regards
So, it means that if sending files from/to another bluetooth pocket pc, then it shouldnt has problem?
I'm the main developer of Smart Explorer for Smartphone 2002/2003. You're right Shadamehr. It seems that the Microsoft BT stack on SP 2002/2003 does not handle correctly the max packet size the remote device accepts. This happens with different devices, such as T68i or T610. I can't confirm yet that this problem also occures with XDA II (I don't have any T610 at the office).
We are actually porting Smart Explorer to Pocket PC (it was only an internal exercise and not planned to be made public). Actually, 95% of the job has been realized. I will try to find a T610 and test file transfer. I'll let you know the result. If there is some interest, we may think about putting this version on our web site.
from what i understand then many mobil phone makers block that
because background pictures and such are being sold
and if people could just share them they would not make as much money
my gf's nokia have a mmc card and i cant even put pictures on the it and choose them as background
if your xda2 can beam to other xda2's and to a pc then putting 2003SE on it is not likely to solve issues with other devices not being able to recieve from it
nice one jacoch - let me know when i can give it a whirl!!!
If its possible to send picuures from a T610 to another T610 and from a T610 to an XDA, it must be possible for a t610 to recieve pictures etc.
my XDA gone back for repairs but should be back with me soon 8)
cheers guys
Well I just tried with the T610 of a friend of mine. It seems that BT stack is even worst on XDA than it is on SPV. I have faced some hangs while shutting down the BT stack. The same appears when trying to send a file when the remote device ask to be bound first. The bounding dialog never appears and SE sit waiting from the answer of the OS. I'm not sure it's bugs as I tried on our development device that is not really fit :? (ROM 1.66)
Anyway, once the XDA II has been bound to the T610, transfer was fine (at slow speed only). I have sent successfully several 40Kb jpeg files. If we decide to make this version public, we will investigate and try to fix these troubles.
Pleeeeeease let me know if/when I can test it;
Is there any way that the Bluetooth application can be split from the bulk of the OS - to use as a patch for windows PPC? (as if you didn't have enough to do!)
 cheers!
not only the T610
Yea, have tried even with the high end SE P900, still wont accept the transfer... but the PALM units were able to send from an to 7650 and other high end units...
It really sucks to thinks XDA2 is "HIGH END/TECH PHONE" but doesnt connect /file trans thru BT.
ok is bt but is maybe a pb with ir setting read this

I have no problems BT transfer to and receive from SE P800/900.
BT file transfer to mobile phones
I have I-mate running WM2003. As described above I can recieve files from SE T610/630/Z600 but i can't send files to these devices... it writes "Sending 1/1" and that's it... although on T610 the BT sign changes to the one indicating a transfer... nothing happens in fact... for half an hour it couldn't send a 20Kb picture... I have downloaded and installed Pocket Bluetooth Tools... but what I can't figure out is what is this software at all and how it works? If anyone knows how to make my I-mate (1.66.00WWE) send files to mobile phones, please explain it to me step-by-step.... THANK YOU!!!!
so can anyone tell me a program i can use for sending files over BT. i got HS messenger for texting over BT networks but it requires both devices to be bonded. is this true for all aps? im only looking to send files from my xda2 to another xda2 if it makes it any easier
Bluetooth problems
I have exactly the same problem as Rasputin. My gf has a t610 that I cant send images to.
Is there any development on that program that will allow users to send images to these phones?
Is anyone else finding that their bluetooth is really slow at sending and receiving items. Also that there is no way to send items direct to a contact that is in your partnership list, you have to search for them every time you want to send something. If someone has found ways around these problems, please let me know.
an adaption of the Blue angel's bluetooth interface would be lovely. It had loads of options, and let you explore remote devices. This is just like the XDA2.
Would it be possible to port the BA software onto the wizard? I think it uses a different BT stack.
they were able to port the wizards rom to run on a blue angel. I guess they should be able to use the blue angels bluetooth on a wizard.
Please help - is so annoying
Ok, after a little research i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532 .It has an app which i installed and has helped a little. I can now send images direct to people i have paired with without having to search local bluetooth first. The thing is it only sends images to paired people. I want it to also send sound and video files. When in file explorer, holding down on an image brings up the extra option of "Send image via bluetooth" which then allows to send by the already paired devices. When doing the same on videos and sound, it doesnt give this option. Maybe this can be done in the registry, but i dont know alot about that so maybe someone could help?
i tried this on my kjam and i had a problem with it, so i uninstalled it.
the problem i had is that the bt keep switching off by itself with no reason, even if i was already syncing over bt, the connection is lost suddenly and i found out that the bt is off (even though the bt icon on the system tray shows its still on).
i don't know about you guys, but i had this prob twice, i reinstalled it again and gave me the same prob.
i can live without it.
Ok, maybe that stack is not all that great. After soft reset lost all sound, and BT does not work properly. Uninstalled and back to normal. So again is there any way to send to people in your paired list without having to search for them every time. Is becoming a pain coz some new phones turn off discoverable after 60 seconds. So they have to keep turning theirs back on. Its a simple option, dont know why they didnt put this in. Any help?
I haven't seen more than 50-60KBps. Has anyone else seen higher transfer rates?
Wizard's BT is useless. Buggy, slow and poor.
And it is not v2.0, it is v1.2
It does not have EDR.
It doesn't even have PAN ffs... :x

Info about BT in wizard. Directly from BT CIG's site. The problem is not with the Wizard, it is in usin MS BT stack.
thanks for that emmeborn, if the problem is the stack, do you know of a stack upgrade which works good? I tried the stack form the blue angel, but stuffed up my phone, so uninstalled it.
actually, i just looked at those pdf files, and at the bottom where it has the revisions, seems they have launched a version around 1 month ago. Would this be a software or hardware update. If its software then i reckon this could solve alot of problems im having.

It is the long awaited rom update. A test version of that rom has already leaked. You can find more info in the Wizard upgrade forum topic about that version.
I am awaiting the localized swedish version of that rom and the latest about that version is that it should be released mid March.
Ive asked this question loads of times before but with no answer. Is it possible to upgrade the bluetooth software on the wizard to include the following option. On normal phones, when you want to send a file to another phone by bluetooth, you first have the option to send to someone in your paired list. If they are not in your list then you can have bluetooth search the area for one. With the Wizard, you dont have this option, it has to search the area everytime, and if you are wanting to send more than file it can get really irritating. The blue angel kinda had this option for images, i tried using the bluetooth from that, but didnt work correctly. Please people, this would be a great feature to have.
Hey,
I flashed my 8125 with Summiter's Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU2_WWE-RINGRS-OCLOCK.exe.
I have a question now: can I use Bluetooth File Transfer Service with Bluesoleil Bluetooth USB dongle?
If not, is there a way to fix it?
Also I cannot send/receive files (like tones or pictures) via BT... This is really weird since most of BT enabled phones have this option, even the cheapest of them...
Don't get me wrong, but it's kinda embarrasing when a guy shows off with his RAZR sending pictures and stuff and I can't...
HELP, PLEASE....
Ps. yeah... I hate RAZR's...
I am not familiar with that ROM but you should be able to pair with that dongle - just make sure both are discoverable and they should be able to pair. Also you can send files via bluetooth use the inbuilt file explorer and click on file and menu should appear - choose beam file and bluetooth window will appear
Nope... it doesn't... I got only IR...
Need more info to help.
Does your bluetooth go on and is it discoverable? Does blue indicator light flash? Did bluetooth work before flashing with new rom?
Cuz you should definitely be able to bt with file explorer. If not i assume its a rom problem and would suggest trying to flash back to original rom.
Well, the BT itself works well. I use BT earpiece and SellingClicker with no problems.
Yet, I don't have an option to beam anything via BT... Only IR or MMS.
And I have no idea whether it worked with oroginal ROM since I flashed it the very second day I got it... Yeah, yeah... I know... that was stupid...
Anyways, any other suggestions?
I figured out a way how to send files from one phone to the other... (I think, coz I didn't really test throughfuly)
The big question is: how do I send and receive files to the PC without using ActiveSync?
You have to....
...have your bluetooth om and discoverable to be able to send files via bluetooth.
Once you tap "Beam", you'll have to wait a few seconds to see the option to send via btooth. You'll first see just the "Infared" prompt, then underneath it, you'll start to see "Unknown Devices" appear, Unknown Device changing to the actual device name, once you MDA picks it up. Then you can tap to send to that particular device.
So you can do it....I just think it's misleading that it only says "Beam".....

Yes, but when I finally send it to the PC all the PC does is open MS Outlook and that's it...
The way I see it is that OBEX file is nothing else but a "business card" file read only by outlook.
Did you try sending files both ways yourself?
:-(
common guys... help, please..
Just now I was trying to send a 5mb file from PC to phone via the Bluetooth Object Push Transfer. It was working for about 5 min and... nothing... the PC says: Object Push Service is disconnected... on the phone there is nothing. Even the memory status stays exactly as it was 10 min ago... :-(
help, please

Hi,
You'll probably need to start bluetooth via the comm manager.
It will find other hardware with open bluetooth ports.
- Go to the file you wish to beam to someone else.
- Tap the file (keep the stylus on it untill you get the menu)
- Choose " send file" (this might be called differently, my version is dutch)
- Select bluetooth.
Good luck!
Greetz,

Hi,
The procedure I gave seems to work properly with my MDA.
You could check if the person you're beaming to has bluetooth (turned on) but I guess you've checked that already.
Otherwise try to minimize the distance between the two pieces of hardware.
If that doesn't solve your problem, I can't help you any further, maybe bring it by the shop where you bought it to have it checked?
Good luck & greetz,
Flar
yeah same here never managed to get bluetooth to work
i found that i needed to enable beam recieve in order to recieve on bluetooth, the incoming and outgoing port stuff i left alone.
so i can now receive files but haven't got a clue how to send them, i make a bluetooth partnership ok (my mate can then send me a file) but i can not find the option to send one back. the file explorer menu doesn't have bluetooth listed on it?

I am having this same issue. Anyone know the solution? All I want to do is send some files to my wife's v3 but I cant setup a new outgoing port. I am running the latest official rom from cingular.
You need to ensure you already have bluetooth turned on before starting this procedure (many miss this simple point, as they assume it will automatically turned on)
Tap and hold on the file you want to send, and select "Beam"
Wait a few seconds for it to scan for devices.
All IRDA recipients (If any) will be listed, and below them, all available Bluetooth recipients will be shown.
Hope this helps you m8
I'm using TMobile MDA, newest ROM, and having the same problem, I'm able to recieve bluetooth but there is no option for beaming a file via bluetooth, only IR... and yes, bluetooth is enabled properly and I am properly partnered with a V3...

Make sure both phones are enabled to be "seen" . My friend and I were trying to figure this out the other day, and she has her device set to something like 'make this device invisible' so even though our phones were next to each other, her device wasn't showing up. Once we changed this, both devices were visible.
***However, neither phone was allowing the sending of files to each other thru the bluetooth, and I'm wondering if this has something to do with her having a Sprint Treo 650 w/ Palm OS, and I have Cingular 8125 w/ WM5.... anyone have any answers for this one??***
Thanks in advance.
