Real player and a 3gp player? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

peeps
Is there a v. of Real player and a 3gp player for wm2003?
Been looking but no joy

There must be, as I have it on my XDA2...
Gimme one sec to search the net...
http://www.realnetworks.com/industries/mobile/operators/products/player/ppc/
That should do you - be careful of line splitting if its too long though...

Cheers man, your a star...
2 birds with one stone, so you or anyone running the 1.1preview version ok or shall i just stick to installing 1.0?

I think I just plumped for the new beta, but to be fair, I have had little cause to actually use it yet - I just thought it's one of those things that should be on my XDA2.
You got a specific purpose in mind for using it, or some good links etc lined up like?

Well I own a nokia 3650 as well and have some movies in 3gp format that i wouldnt mind trying out on my xda2 - also think realplayer should be on a pocket pc if it can be on a nokia

Philips MPEG4 player is the best:
Main Application:
http://www.rarewares.org/files/mp4/platform4_player_for_pocketpc_3.0.exe
Patch:
http://pessoal.onda.com.br/rjamorim/M4A_PocketPC_patch.zip
also visit this site for other software:
http://www.rarewares.org/mp4.html

Patch doesn't work with the file in the first link.
Seems a good program still though.
Any ideas?

Scratch that - I've worked it out, so for the benefit of everyone else, this is what you have to do.
Install the application on your Pcocket PC.
THEN, you need to copy the actual Program file itself, from the Philips folder on your Pocket PC (once it has installed itself), back to the PC proper, and patch THAT file.
Then you simply copy the Program file itself, back to the Philips folder on the Pocket PC.
If you read that again, that should make sense.
You DO NOT patch the installer file - you patch the actual program file itself, once it is installed, but to do this, you need to copy it off the PPC, then back ONTO the PPC, once you have patched it.

The first 10 things to do when you get the Universal!

Hello,
As i will be getting my Exec (hopefully) tomorrow, i thought this topic would not only help me greatly but also others.
What are the first ten things to do when you get your new exec?
e.g
1) Get a case
2) Install Software (name here) to use it as a TV remote
Thanks folks
Since this is going to be different from person to person, why not just check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697
It covers most/all questions...
Here's what I did:
1). Get case - recommend Proporta Alu-Leather
2). Get screen protector - recommend Martin
3). Get GPS System - recommend BT-338
4). Get Car Mount - recommend Brodit/Proclip
5). Get SD Card - recommend 2-4GB
6). Get system tools software - recommend free software
7). Learn to tweak it - recommend XDA Devs - you guys rock!
8). Get desk charger
9). Get Bluetooth Headset - no recommendations
10). Kick yourself in the ass for spending so much on yourself and nobody else.
There you go. Hope that helps.

I think it's going to be for my husband: "Kick himself in the ass for spending so much on his lovely wife.."
For me, the top ten would be:
1) Get Screen Protector
2) Get Case (im using the soft leather case for the ordinary dictionary/translator... it's the same size, fits perfectly)
3) Get BT headset -- using jabra but i want the one with the lcd display
4) Pair BT with phone - Total Voice Commander
5) Install TCMPM and load your sd with movies
6) Personalize phone - change wallpaper.... Im using a hello kitty wallpaper-- got a right to be cheezy... Makes my dopod less intimidating.. Anyone who opens it says, "how cute..."
7) Load ringtones and Install PocketZenPhone
8) Sync phone with pc (i think this should be #3)
9) Install MSReader and load phone with ebooks
10) Show off discreetly to close friends... I dont want just anybody touching my phone with his grimy hands...
screen protector definitely.
A couple of mundane settings to change:
disable error reporting and
disable receive all incoming beams.
Get your activesync working to get your PIM data loaded.
Definitely consider a bluetooth headset (I use Sony Erickson HBH 662 and I'm happy with it).
Definitely helps to have some program to close programs instead of just minimize them (I use smallmenu).
Get your internet connection working.
Start tweaking, probably best to start with the appropriate section of the universal wiki.
Follow this forum and learn more and more.
Enjoy!!

Hi,
Would you tell me what is TCMPM, and how to get it. Thx
It is a media player. Go to http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download to download.
Hope this helps

And it's utterly fantastic. a gazillion times better than WMP. Streaming movies over a wifi network without any silly pre-compression/reduction is fantastic.
Big Ups for TCPMP
And the most important thing for me on TCPMP is FULL screen!

On that point - why should we beg/borrow/steal/buy what we need to get a decentOS?
MS is getting lazy - THIS version of Windows Mobile should have come with WMP at least as comparable feature and performance wise as TCPMP. Also a decent task switcher and window closer, like GSPocketMagic, an RSS Reader like Egress, File Explorer like Resco, Pic viewer like Resco, Radio Streamer like Resco, decent Registry Editor, GPRS Monitor type program and so on...
I guess the good side of it is that other programmers are getting income from creating great apps.. apps which are better than MS' creation. It's healthy competition and in the end, we, the consumers, are enjoying the fruits of their labor
Merry Christmas!
Just a short follow up question.
The TCP media player seams to work great on AVI files created with the divx plug in, however, mpeg files play rather badly.
They hang every couple of seconds, jitters and jump.
However, they play nicely with win media player.
Are you others getting this?
Thanks,
Frode
When MS adds something and does something too well, they get sued for Anti-Trust, if they don't, they get complaint at, lose-lose.
MS have been known to put in some really basic software so 3rd party software developers can earn on the full version or better versions of the software.
so can't really blame them.
frodebass, try Pocket TV for playing MPEG. TCMP is really good for DivX, but why use MPEG when it's a space hog?
The first few things I would do are:
1. Don't charge the battery. Use it until its at 20% and then do a fully charge for 8 hours
2. Check for dead pixels on the screen
3. Take a few photos to make sure there are no dead pixels in the camera
4. Don't install a new ROM unless you need to. And if do want to make sure you hard reset before a ROM update
5. Don't install non-WM5 s/w at all. And if you want to install any third-party apps check here at the forum and always use the latest version. In general avoid apps that have Today screen plug-ins as they seem to the source of many problems from what I can gather
6. Show off your new "toy" to your friends/work colleagues!

About to Get a Mogul...What Programs Should I Get?

There seems to be a ton of posters here who know a lot about the Mogul and phones/PDAs in general...so I figured I'd pose the question to you all.
I'd love suggestions for what I should download...so if possible, could you respond with answers to the following questions:
1) What program?
2) What does it do? Please state the purpose/usefulness.
3) How do I download and install it? Link to find the download?
4) What, if any, existing program will be unnecessary once I download it? And can that unnecessary program be deleted?
I've never had a PDA, so any and all suggestions are welcome. I'll be using the PDA predominantly for calls, web-surfing, and messaging.
Also keep in mind that I'm new to all of this, and I'm a complete moron...I don't understand a damned thing. So talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old. I don't know abbreviations like SMS or MMS, or whatever.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate you taking time out to help me.
Well one of the programs I use the most on my phone is The Core Media Player (TCPMP) it is by far the best media player for Pocket PC's and can play most file types. you can get more information from here, and if you want to download it just respond saying yes and ill post a link. Don't download it from the site as I have a newer version than on that site.
http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml
i hate to be the one to say it, but after seeing the views on this go up and no replies i'm just going to say what everyones been thinking. look around? theres hundreds of threads with stuff to download for your phone, you just have to look a little
Most of our WM devices are very similar. As such, pretty much everything that's been said before still applies, so check the wiki, where you should find many articles related to this conundrum.

And to you other two, I understand that...like I said, though, I'm a beginner and a lot of stuff goes over my head. So I figured I'd create a thread and can ask questions and whatnot.
It's fine if people don't want to respond, though. Life will go on. And some people have been nice enough to take time to explain stuff to me, so it's ok.

I've heard rumors of its existance, but can't find it yet. Still running 0.72... If that's the newer version that you've got, would you mind sharing it?
Here it is v.81, sorry it wouldn't let me upload to the site like normal so i put it on megaupload, to install it just download the file and copy it to your memory card or phone memory, then open it with file explorer on your phone and install it to either the device or memory card. Then open it from start/programs/media player

Sprite Backup
Sprite Backup is a must! Even if you keep it connected to your ActivSync PC daily, it is good to have a baseline you can always restore to, and I'd suggest having it backup to your SD card, and rename one of them every few weeks so you have something to restore from in case it gets completely fragg'd.
Another one is Skyfire (Beta) mobile internet browser.
I'd also suggest you get Microsoft Reader or EReader so you can have pocket novels on your phone (it's a nice thing to have when you're waiting for something). Also, rip your DVD's to your PC and encode them to WMV format and your ActivSync can put them on your SD card...
All of these tricks are discussed here in the forum. Hope this helps.
I will just give titles of some of the apps that I use. Google them to find where and what they do.
PIM: PocketInformant
Wallet: CodeWalletPro 6
Geocaching: GeoScout
maps: Google Maps, Live Search
Bible: Bible Reader
Today Plugin: HHC Home Customizer (will download HTC home plugin)
Shell: SBP Mobile Shell v.2
Browser: Opera Mini
Regedit: PHM RegEdit
File: Resco File Explorer
Video: TCPMP

There are a bunch of other little apps that just make life easy, go to Handango.com and find what you need your phone to do for you.

Webview.exe webview.dll tell me how to get this to work

Can anyone go to this site and download the webview.exe file launch the dll module and show the controls for my security cameras on their pda or pocket pc.
I have tried this on the 700wx and also on the 6800 mogul. I like the mogul much better so I took the treo back.
I can get to this site from a regular size desktop and also my laptop. When you go to the site it asks you to download the webview.exe file and run it. This puts the webview.dll file (module) in the same directory that you downloaded the webview.exe file to; with no problems. It then launches the web interface with a login screen. You login to the server and look at the 16 cameras in real time. When I try with my mogul I get a message that says webview.exe is "not a pocket pc application"
I tried copying and pasting the webview.dll file to my mogul but I don't know where to put it or how to launch the webview.dll module.
the compression I am using to show the live stream is h.264 or I can use mpeg4.

Hmmmmm
I 'm on the XDA's developers site;I just knew all my questions would be answered by now.
Look Guys, I don't want to come off sounding like a pompous idiot who thinks he can prod u guys into doing his homework for him. It's just that I got this 6800 on recomendations that I had read in the forums and I really do want to keep this one.
I have purchased three phones in the past week. I started out with the Treo 755p took it back because it had the Palm OS I was sure that was not going to work, but the Sprint sales guy assured me this was better than the 700wx because in his opinion Palm OS was better than WM5. I played with it for two days reboxed and took it back, I switched it for the 700wx because it has Windows OS the best and newest thing in Palm. He was right; it is, if you don't have a need to see streaming security cameras.
I took it back to another sprint store because the guy had gotten frustrated and says to me He can not switch phones more than once. Hmmmmmm
In the past few days I have been reading the forums; I think it was at Treocentral, or somewhere and I came across one of those articles' "which is better types" TREO or Mogul, I went to the Sprint store in our super mall and I found a working display of the Mogul.
I played with the thing for about two minutes and was blown away. I said to my self I have to get this to work for the security web cams; but not just for the camera's; I want to offer this as a turn key solution to my client...He has a treo 700w. I know he is going to be pleased with this. The size difference in the screen; the sliding keyboard, I am nuts about this thing already....
I'm not talking about jpeg's refreshing every 5 sec; I'm talking live streaming video from 16 cameras with the option to control PTZ's
All I Have to do is get the Internet explorer part on the Mogul, to work with the camera's software request to download and install webview.dll I don't know where to put this file on the Mogul, I don't know how to put it on the Mogul (yet). Ihave only had the Mogul for one day
go to the site, and please help

if the exe was written for desktop windows its not going to run on windows mobile, simple as that, youll have to see if the company that makes the security cameras also makes a pocket pc app for them

It isn't a PocketPC application. And you are trying to run it on a PocketPC.
Won't work.
The only occasional exception is .net applications that sometimes work on a desktop and PDA.
What brand of camera are you connecting to? There are some apps out there for network cameras so I may be able to help you.
Good point!

I guess I was thinking about installing the webview.dll and that would have solved the problem. I am not sure about the software for the camera maufacturer they are from China, and not much info to go on...
When I go to the site: HTTP://70.63.106.214/default.ht
I get this msg: "To enable control work: Tools-> Internet Options-> Security-> Custom Level Reset to: low or Download and Install it
When I download and install the file; (webview.exe) it is a executable that unpacks webview.dll ver. 2.0, in the same folder with webview.exe.
I did not realize or I am not sure if the webview.exe is the program interface for the application to work, but now that makes sense. I thought the httpsvr.exe that is running on the DVR PC was the app for the web interface and would allow all this to work on any platform.
I guess if there is a way to decompile the webview.exe and make the neccessary changes to include the pocket pc header information; recompile it, test it, fix it test it again. then this would probably work. There is not enough information on the software manufacturers to begin trying to find a solution for this.
I have absolutly no programming skills. I realize now, that this may be a question for the developer/hack forum.
I would like to give it a try though. So if you can point me in the right direction; or if the Mods would repost this thred in the Dev/hack forum; maybe those guys would probably know what tools I would need to get started in this.
I appreciate all your help and it has made me think about the resolution, and the approach to my problem in a different way. Thanks

They are not Internet Cams; I have the regular BNC connectors that pigtale into a 15 pin video connector that attaches to a PCI camera card 8 cams, I have two of the camera cards installed in each pc. I also have an ATI radeon 9550 with wideo out for the hardware compression of the video signal to the PC monitor this works for NTSC and PAL signals.

Audio during boot up screens

Does anyone know if it is possible/how to create longer boot up audio as a device starts (after HR/SR)? I'm familiar with creating custom boot screens but I thought it would be cool to have some custom audio (in my case the Descent by Dieselboy) play during device startup, any and all feed back would be appreciated.

Ummmmm, how does a little exe that plays an mp3 sound? You just need to place the exe along with the mp3 in the startup folder. Would you like me to write a little app that does this? Just let me know, it shouldn't take me more than a few minutes to chalk up .

I'm about to goto bed, so I'll do it tomorrow (Unless another developer beats me to it, cuz it really is a simple app). And yes, as soon as the file plays out, the application will close itself, and free up your precious memory, not a problem.
I still wish the animated gif app played sound on the titan like it does on the kaiser. I havent really looked into why it doesnt in depth, but it would be nice.
Thundershadow, when would your app play these sounds? right now the animated gif app should/does play them before the welcomehead screen and after the second splash. If you could cue your app to play then, it would be great. Especially with the longer boot times of WM6 and BigStorage roms.
AudioBoot 0.1
AudioBoot 0.1.
Simply plays "startup.mp3" (which MUST be located in your devices root) when your device starts and kills itself when the mp3 reaches it's end. The application itself is only 5kb, but im using fmod to play the mp3, and that dll is quite large. I could use playsound, but you'd be limited to wav sounds, and mp3's only work with playsound if you're using WM6. So I guess I'll release a WM6 version, which will be roughly 5 kb, and any device prior to WM6 will use fmod.
Installation/Usage:
1)Extract to your device
2)Rename any mp3 "startup.mp3" and place it in your devices root.
3)Place the shortcut in the zip file in Windows\Startup
4)Soft reset and the mp3 should play on boot.
Took me like 5 mins to write, so let me know if it works .
Edit: Just added the source for anyone who wants to improve .
WOW!
You're Good!!!
Waiting for the WM6 version!
Very nice little add-on... could you maybe sign it, or whatever it takes there, to remove the "Unknown Publisher" warning? Having to click "Yes, I trust you" to play a startup noise isn't very fun
I can use it with my Hx4700 WM6 kozhura ROM.
Thanks.
vivi
Is i'nt it little too heavy? Can we not cut the flab with small foot print. Play any of the wave file staying inside the \Windows folder?
thanks thundershadow, it works on my Atom, but please make it use "startup.mp3" in /Windows, as I want to build it into my ROM.
AudioBoot 0.1 Wav Only!
Hey guys,
Here's a wav only version of AudioBoot 0.1. Do the same thing, except, put startup.wav in your windows or root directory. I've got the WM5 SDK, so I'll be Downloading the WM6 SDK to make use of the mp3 playing options of playsound. As you can see, it's MUCH MUCH MUCH smaller . If you've got a short startup sound, it's better to use the wav format anyway, you'll end up with a smaller file size.
Here you go .

Kinoma Play on TG01 (touchflo3D killer)

hello all
kinoma Play looks really impressive in this video. http://www.wmexperts.com/next-release-kinoma-play-features-its-own-home-screens
are there any toshiba tg01 rom dumps floating around?
i hope people here are interested in porting this thing to our ''htc devices
This is just the next update ok Kinoma Play, which can be dowloaded on ur HTC.
Just wait few weeks for the update.
It's a good soft indeed.
wow this is very good!
the thing feels like its running on a 3GHZ machine with a geforce 8800
too damn impressive on the tg01
As this software comes bundle with TG01, Toshiba might shared the API for hardware acceleration to Kinoma Team. Remember this is a entire new processor platform (named Snapdragon). This software would never perform like this in ours old MSX7200 processors.
truly impressive
twice as smooth as the iphone with 2.5x the number of pixels so that makes it 5x as immpressive
its hard to tell where the constant 60FPS is comming from. is it from the cool coding tricks or from the CPU specs of the TG01. looks like both
I just love the Toshiba TG01
And Kinoma doesn't seem to be so bad either
Sascha
greatttttttt
I've tried this program, but there are a few hangups that really keep me from using it.
The first one is that it will only "intelligently" scan your device and storage card. There is no option to setup what folders to scan or leave out of a scan. They're only response as a "fix" to this is to put any directory you don't want scanned in the Program Files folder on your device/card. This means I have to redo my entire storage structure to work around their smart scan.
Also, they don't support .avi video files. They say "It's not used for legitimate content distribution" and that "it was always a poorly-defined format with many undocumented mutations that make it a mess to implement and support".
Well, one can argue the legitimacy of certain files, but that's not up to the video player to decide IMO. I have purchased several legitimate programs that convert my DVDs into avi files for mobile playback.
And as far as a mess to implement and support, hell, my very first Casio Cassiopeia supported avi playback with TCPMP. So that's just a cop out as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, the program looks great and has many awesome features, but it just falls short in trying to think too much for me. If I wanted to be a "dumb" user and have a "smart" media player, I'd buy an iPhone.
the new version was just released maybe these issues were sorted out. how about you upgrade and let us know
