so i have my xda2 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

any pointers on which essential things i should attempt first? not after anything major but any pointers to must haves or must do's would be hugely appreciated tia

Use it!

I agree, just set it up for your use, you will then discover the pros and cons and hopefully be able to add software/hardware to address the shortcomings if any.

h6315 Users getting antsy

I hope I'm not committing a major faux pas here, but I see that there has been a lot of hacking going on with the XDAs, and as one of many HP iPAQ h6315 users over at PDAPhoneHome.com, we're in the process of getting all hacky with our devices. I am hoping a lot of your hard work on this site can give us a jumping-off point.
1) I found an .nbf editor, ER2003Edit. Provided the correct passwords can be discovered for our .nbfs, would this software allow us to customize our ROM images?
2) If so, is there an app somewhere to brute-force crack .nbf passwords?
3) If this is all possible, what else would one need to keep in mind?
As I said, I hope I don't annoy anybody in here, and while I'm sure the answers to these questions are somewhere to be found, this site is vast and I wouldn't even know where to begin. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

HELP for new owners ! Startup information

Hello community
I am a great fan of this community and i have recently bought a HTC Wizard and now, more than ever, i follow all the news on this site.
But, regardless of this, being a new owner has its handicaps, meaning i am missing a lot of the basic information on operating (modifing, customising, etc.) my device.
I have been using a HP4700 but i have recently bought an Orange M3000.
i hope that by this post, me and all the newcomers would find valuable information and answers and also the basic knowledge to be able to understand and contibute in more advanced threads.
Thank You
I would like to know what would be the first steps to follow when buying a new device to get the most out of it.
I mention that the my device is operator locked, and, i do not necessarily want to unlock it, but i want to decustomize it and to be able to flash it with the newest roms and use all enhancing tweaks
all information is appreciated, thank you
You either need to do some readings around here, or you can search for specific question. Would be difficult for others to spoon-feed you
To decustomized it, the basic (easiest way) is to skip the customization installation after hardreset. That is to soft reset the device just after the security screen. You have 3 seconds to soft reset your device after the security screen.
I am very interested to read every single post regarding my device. But, i have noticed that information is scaterred around and hard in getting the wide picture for starters.
I also intend to contribute to this post in order to provide the newcomers with needtoknow information so they can one day prove useful to this community, being "spoon-fed" early may develop solution-providers later.
Thank you for your interest.

New Prophet comming - What do I need to do?

I have a new Dopod 818 Pro coming... it currently has WM5.0.
So, I want to know what things I need to do, to get this phone up to snuff.
I do like the TouchFLO interface i have seen on the HTC Touch, so, what recommendations do you all have for me, regarding software and ROM to load.
Also, any tips / tricks would be helpful. I have been out of the XDA market for a couple of years(2003 i guess) and so I need to catch up.
Thanks in advance!

My personal recommendation:
Do not do anything to the phone for a week or two.
Just see how it runs in its natural state, then decide what you like and don't like, what features you need and don't need etc.
Come back and tell us and we may be able to recommend software / ROM to improve your user experience.
Alternatively, you might find that you like it as is and in this case "don't fix it if its not broken" is a good advice since once you change ROM you will void all warranty and you may find you have a hardware fault later on.

does anyone know about AKU and radio versions?

i have seen members writing about different AKU versions and radio versions ie, 17 or 19.
can someone give me a quick idea what it is they mean.
and i have also seen the items know as [kitchens] am i right in thinking these are ready made software to help u change and tweek ROM'S if they are which is the best and easy to use to start off with as i am still a bit of a noob at all this xda himalaya stuff as i have not owned it long.
if i am way off in thinking that this is what they are for and what they are used for are there any easy to use guides and tips about them.

I understand there isn't a great deal of information there but can try answer any specific questions best i can and get pictures if required.

There are many unlockers around, IMO best is MioPocket 4.0, you should give a try:
