Req a favour from someone with linux + makerom - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I am trying to get the AT&T WM2003 final rom to work minus the audio clipping, I have got the latest Tmobile rom and compared all the sound related registry settings, and nothing appears to differ. However looking at the audio driver (wavedev.dll) the one from the AT&T rom is larger, which suggests this might be where the changes were made, as the Waveapi.dll is exactly the same size..
But my problem is that I don't run linux (and i'm not that familiar with it) so I can't build the Tmobile wavedev.dll into the AT&T rom.
I have tried editing the registry to point to a copy of the tmo driver (which obviously I had to rename) but it didn't work (I'm guessing becuase everything else is looking for the other file)
Could anyone build the Tmobile dll into the AT&T rom if I sent them the file ??
Cheers
Neil

I have tried having a go at creating a rom myself using a bootable Knoppix cd, but I can't get it to work correctly as all the settings in mkrom are for the special edition rom. And I'm not really sure what I'm doing
Could any of you guys that run the rom kitchens or anything hook me up ??
Cheers
Neil

Replacing files in ROM using mkrom.sh

Hello!
I was just trying to cook my own ROM (O2 3.17.03) using the ROM tools. I wanted to replace the default phone skin with a custom one. After building the ROM I ran dumprom on it to check whether my modified files really made it into the new image. They did.
After flashing the ROM and cold booting the device I had to realize, that still the original default skin was present. The files have not been replaced as one could have hoped.
WM2003 ROMs do not behave like that.
Is there a way to replace files which are already present in PPC2002 ROMs?
Thanks for any hints,
Christian

ROMs available from the FTP site attached to this forum. You need to do a bit of digging and use the search function.
thank you very much! i will look for it
I wouldn't recommend to flash the entire ROM just to get a different skin. If the flashing goes wrong, T-mobile will not provide any help (guarantee wise). It's not worth the risk.
I'm not the big expert here, but there must be a way to change it without flashing a new rom...
Most parts of the skins (nearly all?) are bitmaps in the windows directory. Store new ones and your Magician gets a new look. A problem could be that in the windows directory RAM and ROM are merged. A ROM file can not be erased but you can store a file under the same name in RAM. The original file in ROM will not be visible and used anymore as long as the file in RAM exists.
In my Magician the brandings are installed in RAM (from the extendedROM), so I can replace them. If I just delete them I get the original skins from MS stored in ROM.
If you have the IntelliDialer you have to notice that it is installed in RAM (from the extendedROM) so only deleting its files does not work (there are no others).
I do not know how O2 integrates its skins but I think they will use the same way as t-mobile so taking O2s (bitmap) files and copy them to your device should work. (Make a backup before to be save)
Hope that hepls a little bit
Joe
If you haven't already fixed your problem, here is the O2 splashcreen CAB.
Just copy it to your my documents and run it from there.
That removes the T-Mobile startup screen.
Then you can just do a search on these forums for some skins for the intellidialler and intellipad. I have a nice Apple based one that I found in a post on these forums.

Any way 2 cook own ROM

Does anyone know how to cook own ROM? I've got Universal and there it's not so hard, mainly if U need only 2 add or remove several files (I'm not speaking about adding AKUs ....)
THX
btw. there must be a way (see pdamobiz) but i dont speak or read thai
For the trinity there is a HEX pack which unpacks the ROM, then you change the device id and country id and you rebuild the rom again. Anyone has additional info in this method?? Maybe is works for the Orbit/Artemis?
i found on buzzdev scooter's rom kitchen i'm gonna try that.
think we are in the right direction.
Scoter rom kitchen can extract the rom on an Orbit I believe...

Confuse about WM6 for Typhoon/Amadeus/Feeler???

Hi guys,
1. I see some WM6 ROMs for Typhoon/Amadeus/Feeler in this forum.
Which one that I have to choose?
2. Can that rom (WM6) works on HTC Amadeus? Amadeus has music keypad.
Sorry about my english...
It will work, just that the music keypad MIGHT not work , till we find the lnk files which my friend is working on
Its pretty good. I have to say that I've flashed my Xphone IIm to WM6 and its par with the official rom. Its running smoothly and so far *knock on wood* there aren't any problems. Just keep in mind that you'll lose JAVA (Unless someone knows how to bring it back). Its far better then WM5. I suggest you to flash to WM5 , then start your upgrade from WM5. If you do that , its a safer route
This is my route for your information
WM2003SE --> WM5 ---> WM6
Just to be extra safe , do a hard reset (Just say Y to both of the questions during the bootup Clear <something something>. Then boot into boot loader and flash)
Thanks karhoe btw (Oh yeah , the music keys does not work..Its not a big issue at all)
Did you try pasting the lnk files? If it still doesnt work, probably we need to dig out the keyboard dll from WM2003

[Q] How to cook a ROM for the Axim x50v?

I am new to Axims. I bought one on eBay, and I decided that I want to cook my own ROMs for it. I started here on HTC Geeks (can't post links yet, not enough posts): HTCGeeks Forum > Windows Mobile Pocket PC's > Axim X51v
ROM Cooking Outline
. I learned a lot from that, however I got stuck at the make_imgfs unreadable output problem (described by ChangeLing in that thread). I have tried using ImgfsToNb and it still doesn't work.
Basically, I want to be able to edit the Imgfs Partition of the .nb0 file, and repackage it into a .nb0 file. After I learn how to do that, I would like to learn how to edit the XIP.
Can anyone help me with this? Even other's cooked ROMs have things in them that I have no need for, such as Transcriber (I never use it).
I would like to know if there is a kitchen available (like the Portable Axim Rom Kitchen (which never worked for me, no matter what I tried), that works. I can also piece together a kitchen myself if told what tools I need and how to use them.
Bump! Bump!
