SMS via GPRS - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hopping someone can help me.
I have recently migrated from a SE T610 to an XDA II.
On the SE t610 i had the option of sending my sms's via the standard GSM or i could select GPRS.
As i send alot of SMS's the GPRS method was a great option for me.
I can't seem to be able to do this or find anywhere to change the settings.

Wow, i thought i was the only one who thought about this issue.
i totally agree, i used to use a 6100.
sending sms via gprs has its benefits in certain countries!
i hope that someone can confirm if the XDAII/XDA does this by default or develop an app/registry setting that can do it.
Cheers,
Carlo

i tried changing the message centre dial no. to my gprs setting but it does not seem to work.

XDA II SIM unlocked: how to use GPRS to connect to the Net..

Hi,
I just unlocked my XDA II and I'm using a Vodafone SIM in it. How do I utilize GPRS, WAP and Modem connectivity with this SIM? Is it possible to get rid of all the O2 crap installed on it, i.e. "clean" it up properly?
A new skin would be cool!
Cheers,

you are by no means the first who ask this question
And what's the answer? Is it possible at all?
--
Thomas
yes it possible the xda is not limited to o2 in anyway
you just have to set it up
to do this you need to know the connection point your provider use for mms, grps and wap (if you also want that)
there are many posts which explane how you set it up in the network forum
but if you cant find any i could explane it step by step i suppose
i dont know much about o2's settings but if it's today stuff you can turn it off under today in settings
otherwise you can always make your own rom at www.yorth.net and get a more pure non o2 custom rom
you can get tons of skins as in today skins on many sites
and at yorth.net you can also get phone skins or have explaned how to make them yourself
Works fine now, thanks. Vodafone's acces point is named 'internet' (which was easy to read off the SIM), and the user/passwd is web/web (had to call them up to get that). So GPRS works fine. Needs some more info to set a Modem connection, but it shouldn't be hard.
The reason for my original posting, was that I was lead to believe that O2 had "locked" the device, which is not the case at all.
Anyway, thanks for info. Btw, the link you mention does not work...
Cheers,

Ttm, I'm confused. I am in the same situation as you (xda II with vodafone sim), yet i cannot connect GPRS using your settings. The settings I connect with are APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk with the same user/password as you. This connects fine yet i cannot send or receive emails.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something in the setup? what do you reckon? :?:
cheers, coj
well one thing is to be able send mails and another is to get mail working
can you get IE working ?
Yes, IE is working fine and dandy
then i doubt it's a grps issue
if you put in all the mail settings like
pop3 and smpt if you used those protocols
and it still dont work with your type of mail protocol
then i would contact the phone company to see if they rout
your type of mails

Ireland 02 MMS settings please?

Would anyone be able to take the time to post here in detail the settings for O2 MMS in Ireland on a contract bill plan?
I was on to o2 support but it didn't work and got the impression the staff wasn't really up to 100% on the XDA - probably more used to regular cellphones.
I'd appreciate the help from someone with a working mms service on o2 contract.
Many thanks to all
Conor
you could try the o2 website,
there is a section in mms area (get the settings), which allows you to send yourself the appropriate settings via sms.
try it anyway and let us know how u get on.
I'm in the north so the settings may not be applicable for your region.
good luck anyway.
Thanks but no settings there
Cheers, but they only allow you to send the settings and install them automatically by sms. There's no option to send to an XDA - just Nokia etc...
Can someone just copy them down here from their o2 monthly contract XDA?
Thanks again
Conor
ok conor,
we'll give it a go then, what details do you need and I'lli try to supply them.
MMS blues...
Thanks David!
I'm not sure if N. Ireland settings are the same for Galway but sure, let's see!
For a start, does it connect via MMS Network, or GPRS or My ISP, or The Internet etc.?
I can't send at all. But I do receive notifications of a new mms and who it's from, but when I tap download it tries to download but gets stuck there forever without succeeding. Here's what I got from o2 support but it doesn't work.
Connect to server O2IE (the server name)
Gateway - 192.168.090.074
Server address http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002 (I think!)
Thanks again!

MMS O2 Ireland
Hi Dan
Thanks for that - but I doubt the uk settings would work in Ireland.
O2 here tried to help so I guess I'm registered for these services.
GPRS works fine the prob is just MMS
Thanks again though!
If any Irish o2 pay monthly users could copy down their settings it might help.
Best regards to all
Conor
Conor,
sorry this took so long, got kinda busy elsewere.
have just looked and the connection was set on My Work Network,
I thought it was/should be, via the MMS network.
will have to try and see if it is still working.
the rest of the settings you gave matched mine except for the .ie replacing the .uk, and different gateway no's, this again could be a UK thing.
If I remember correctly I had some serious trouble at the beginning, I think it was something to do with the Rom version, when I upgraded it from 1.60, the MMS service started to function perfectly.
Rom?
Hi
My ROM is 1.60.00WWE
do you know if I'm up to date?
Cheers!
Conor
Hi Conor,
If you unlock your extended rom, there will be a couple of files relating to O2 customisation. It's made easier by using the horrible Active Today settings which can custimise your device for use in Ireland. I'm sure the settings are also made for the mms program. (sorry, I don't use it myself!)
As for the rom version, I think the lastest O2 rom is 1.66 which is available from their site, you could also go to version 1.72 which is available from this site. I'm at 1.72 and think it's fine.
Cheerio
Howard
Thanks Howard, David and all!
I'll try upgrading the RoM
very grateful indeed

WM2003se mms problem?!?!?!?!

i have installed the Merged version of WM2003SE by SIn, which I must say lookes and works really great! I just have one little problem! I cant send or recienve mms, When i try to send it says "Your message is larger than the sending limit you specified in 'Preferences'. to change the limit, select 'MMS Settings' from the Inbox Tools menu." I can't change it cause i can't see that specific Settings to change the limit is no where to be found, it's like it's missing from the window! All my settings are perfect, I can surf the web everything! If anyone has an idea for my minor problem thats turning into a mounten, please let me know!
Thank you all!!
RE
I suppose you're using O2 XDA II. My problem was a bit different in that I could not view the recieved MMS and my recipient could not recieved my MMS.
I faced a similar problem recently when I tried to use MMS for my O2 XDA II with WM2003SE and ROM v2.06.00. My MMS composer was v2.0.0.13
Apparently, my telco carrier does not recognize v2.0.0.13 as the official MMS composer.
Now it works because I'm using MMS v1.6.0.8 from the original ROM v1.6.00 ie from WM2003.

O2 XDA Mini S with vodafone MMS problems

I've recently acquired an xda mini s from 02 as a free upgrade, however i want to put a vodafone sim card in it.
I've got the gprs working, but the mms isnt at all.
I've tried numerous cab files, can anyone help? maybe typing the settings in by hand?
please
Jaxx
sounds like you've done a soft reset after a hard reset bypassing the extended rom install? The only way to get the MMS application is to hard reset and do a "Basic" install then remove the O2 stuff from the Windows startup folder. Once you've done this you'll have the MMS app with O2 settings that you can just change to Vodafone settings.
Ok, tried this and still not workin.
What is going on here?!
do you meand MMS isn't working still or you still don't even have MMS in Pocket outlook
Do a search for removing the O2 stuff, there are many topics with the cab files to install to recover the MMS inbox
If however you have the inbox, just not the settings call vodafone and get them to tell / e-mail you
or go here http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
I managed to fix this problem finally.
The problem was that the MMS software was trying to connect using the vodafone Live access point, which isn't correct. had to set up a whole new connection for the MMS settings, it is now working fine.
Any chance you could post those settings here as I'm having exactly the same problem?
SMS is fine it's just the MMS I cant get working, Inbox is there just the setting that seem to be wrong.
This helped me out:

I can now send, but not receive MMS with my voda sim on my mini-s
Perfect Thanks,
I can now send and recieve MMS, SMS and Surf the "world wide wait"
Not sure why you cant recieve MMS though, I followed your instructions to the letter and all worked straight away, albeit a bit slow but then I think that's a tarrif thing with Vodafone. (I'm on a corporate contract with my own unlocked Mini-s)
I dont suppose you know the URL to access the Vodafone live site as well do you?
Hello, I have the same issue. But l'm on O2 , using o2 mini S , device. I can receive and download MMS , but I can't send MMS to another person. Is the any thing I miss? l'm using corporate mode.
Not sure about the corporate mode but I do know that unless you have the settings in exactly the right places you will have problems.
This link from earlier in the post should help you solve your problem though.
The second link is for Vodafone but use it to give you an idea of where you should be setting up the various elements.
You could also try searching for "O2 MMS Settings"

SMS over GPRS

Hi,
I have an XDA orbit using Windows mobile 6. There is an option in settings to send SMS over GPRS.
When I set the SMS to send over GPRS the message fails to send. Has anyone got this option working with o2?
Many thanks!
Chappers
i think the operator have to support it
and if they charge by sms they will loose
alot of money if people can get around that
charge and only pay for the few bytes it cost
with gprs
Fring on Symbian support SMS-Over-GPRS feature.
