Help about xda2 rom update - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I need information about how update my o2 xda2. I don`t understand the procedure to update, wich are the tools and wich rom I must use.
can someone help Me?
is dangerous?

please, no one help me? info are very important...

Just download the the upgrade... Active Sync your XDA2 as a GUEST... RUN the downloaded file and cross your finger that everything will be alright.. It takes about 25-30 Mins(I cant remember exactly how long)
NOTE:
Disable your Anti-Virus if you have one! And I think I read somewhere that you cant use Windows98 to do this, so use Windows2000 or WinXP. I am using XP-Pro.
Good Luck m8!

The question is why do you want to upgrade? It can be dangerous and most of the time you dont really need to.

the actual rom is instable and have many bugs, like bluetooth support.

02 xda mini rom? updates? keep origonal? change to...i-mate?

finding it hard to get good answers....so in anybodies opinion
the 02 xda mini s
is there any updates from the origonal 1.5.4.2 WWE? if so where can i get em from?
If no updates, maybe the 02 rom isnt the most up-to-date?? and it would be better to change to i-mate? or a q-tec?...if so...which would people recommend? and where could i find them? also...would they effect my being on 02 at all or would evrything stay the same and just the device will work better?!?
what do people think?

Hello jamie,
I would think that you should at least upgrade to the qtek9100 rom if u worry that u might not turn back to the O2 provided ROM. Or if you want even better performance, you can use the latest imate ROM. But i read in posts that you cannot downgrade as the loki wizard does not work in this rom.
Anyhow, i'm using an xda mini S and using the imate rom though.
Cheers
I was wondering about this as well. I've got an O2 XDA Mini S and it all seems to be working fine (so far). I don't use it for anything spectacular though phone, diary, notebook and I have a few other apps on it. I also run spb pocket plus and spb diary, again with no particular problems.
I know the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but are there any benefits from moving to the latest imate ROM, say?
tzehming,
You said you couldn't downgrade. Do you mean that once you put the latest imate ROM on, you can't ever go back to the original O2? Also, what's the deal with LokiWizard - is there something that needs to be done before the ROM can be upgraded?
(apologies for the dumb questions, I'm starting to get to know my way around the device)
Thanks,
John

Hello jko,
Yup u're right about having to use loki to unlock the rom. Search it in the forum and u'll find it. Just type loki.
After unlocking using the software, you can then install any rom for wizards, i.e. O2 mini xda s rom, imate rom or qtek 9100 rom. The one i'm using now is the latest one, which is the imate rom. I heard it cant be downgraded and we'll have to wait for an updated loki software to fix that. But the qtek 9100 rom can be downgraded again. I suggest u try the qtek rom as it makes the pda much faster. The O2 rom is really a turtle when opening the slider and closing it.
Hope this helps
Having read the advice above I'm going to unlock my device and flash it with the qtek 9100 ROM.
Once I've done that, what CAB files do I need to install in order to get O2 MMS and O2 GPRS working again?
Thanks,

Can't answer your question, but just a request to post back your experience once you're done. It would be appreciated.
John
well, you could again search the forum for gprs settings. u may not get the automatic setup anymore, thereby may have to do it manually. search for O2 gprs in the forum. as for mms settings, someone made a cab file, I can't remember which forum , but again, it can be searched. Try O2 mms.
hope this helps
I've got the mini S too...
First thing I did when I got it was to get rid of all the o2 crap on it... couldn't believe how slow it was even in basic mode!
I did the whole hard reset then soft reset when it says "customizing..."
This basically leaves you with a bare o2 wm5 rom without any of the customiztion installed. MMS won't work and either will GPRS.
To get these working you need to install Total Commander on your mini S and browse to the /extended_rom/ directory.
The cab files in this directory are the files installed when it says "customizing..." on a hard reset.
You can then selectively install which ones you would like to install.
There is a brief outline of what each one is on the htc wizard page on the wiki but I've made a better one I'm gonna stick on there.
You also need to input the GPRS settings and MMS settings manually and install a cab from the extended rom that creates the MMS folder in the messaging application.
After you've done all this you'll notice a considerable improvement over the o2 rom with all the crapola installed.
I've also used lokiwizard to unlock it all.
Not tried the qtek rom or the new i-mate one... as I don't use push-email or the like and haven't found any considerable bugs yet I don't need to.
I have found naggaly features which after installing the RegistryWizard, NullKbd and a few others... they seemed to be solved!
I recently updated my O2 mini S 1.5.4.... rom to the new imate one and i must give my approval for upgrading to this rom. Its faster, more stable, is much better on battery life for some reason.

Where can I get this. It does not appear to be in the Rom download area (or is it under a different name?)
its in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42638&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Well I successfully upgraded to the new i-mate ROM and it's MUCH faster. There's a lot less lag when sliding the keyboard in & out, and the general responsiveness of the device is considerably better.
I've managed to get GPRS working, and I've installed the MMS cab but I can't send or receive MMS's at the moment - it keeps telling me that it couldn't send the message. So I'm going to post elsewhere in this forum and check that I've got the correct MMS settings.
Overall though, I'd definately recommend upgrading to this ROM. Just remember to use Total Commander to take a backup of the O2 Extended ROM beforehand so that you've got the MMS cab-file available to install at a later date.
Excellent. Thanks for the feedback. I may well give it a go later today.
John
Code:
Just remember to use Total Commander to take a backup
Is this the one from Ghisler.com?
I downloaded this but cannot find any instructions or reference to backing up the Rom. Any idea where I can get the instructions (if there are any).
Code:
browse to the /extended_rom/ directory
I cannot see this in the Total Commander Directory list.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Just got my o2 mini s a couple of days ago and I am loving it soo far!!
However, I already encountered a couple of bugs - the system laggss REALLLI bad, like when the slider is pushed out, even when closing/running certain programs the device hangs. Also, I have seen a couple of times where the "phone" application will not load up. In all these cases I have had to do a soft reset on the device.
I am thinking of upgrading the rom - but this is my first pda, and i know nothing at all about fidgeting with the software. I don't want to mess up such an expensive phone so is it pretty easy to do?
w_2k20a:
I too want to be careful.
I have 2 phones, and my O2 Mini S is slow compared to my MDA Vario.
So I am going to try and run an update to replace the ROM on the O2 with the newer one on the Vario, and also get rid of the O2 add-ins which are what slow it down apparently.
I will try this first because I have read about so many problems with the latest I-mate one, and it is not easy to return to the original ROM if it does give problems (although it is possible it seems tricky) - I may the Imate one later if I need to.
The ROM for the Vario (along with others) is here:
ftp://[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Tmobile/ - use password xda
Its the UK one.
But first I backed up my Mini ROM. I used awizard to do this. Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43399
I think that you will find that using the awizard (get it from this link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
the backup part is easy. I have done that quite successfully.
Good Luck.

WM6>2003?

How to roll it back from from WM6 to 2003?When I'm trying to do this,it gives me Country ID Error.what's the problem?Thank you
hello again!
have u tried this again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1485240#post1485240 ???
are you using "MaUpgradeUt__NoId.exe" to flash?
there is a lot of information - what a surprise - in the good old wiki.... it's kinda confusing from time to time, but read thru it anyways, it does actually help!
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardDowngrade0
good luck,
krz
ps: why are you trying to downgrade anyway...?
Thank u for quick reply))I have some troubles with WiFi.Also I'm not sure that WM6 supports all programmes created for 2003&wm5.Maybe this is the main reason. Is it true by the way?Can I run stuff for WM5 on WM6?
some progs will work, some maybe wont... best way to find out is to try!
but i never had problems like that....
wifi is working for me as well...
krz
As the WM6 is only slightly tweaked version of WM5 there are almost no problems with apps running on newer system. You'll certainly find much more apps which do not run on older systems like WM5 or WM2003 than on WM6.

614c radio firmware v0.89 (and a solution to the call waiting problem) WITH LINKS

Good news!
hp have packaged up 614c radio firmware FW v0.89 and are shortly to release it. Early indications are that this provides a fix to the "call waiting problem", as well as improved in-call volume in both directions... and presumably other minor fixes.
A radio firmware upgrade can be performed irrespective of whichever system ROM you are using - so whether you use the original WM6.0, or a WM6.1 version, you can still apply the radio firmware upgrade without affecting the operating system or OS ROM version.
However, the upgrade will automatically perform a clean boot, so take all the necessary backups first and be prepared for a couple of hours of effort to "rebuild" your precious ipaq...
hipppo,
It is realy good news, but could you, pls, place some link to this 0.89 firmware upgrade or write its SP version? Cannot find it at HP site, maybe I have some wrong search method
BTW: as to some your prior post about Yevg001's tests with loosing data connection when voice comes - he couldn't test it in Moscow because he lives in Jerusalem But as I know he works there just with 3G, just maybe he didn't test this feature... But now he sold his 614c so we cannot count on new OS releases from him. Maybe not definitely but it something appears then it will be not tested from now :-(
oh wow, that's huge. Lets hope they release this thing ASAP.
Sorry for misunderstanding... afraid it will not be too quick looking on their speed...
If anyone will find how to downgrade firmware to 0.77 or its SP name, pls write...
I now have the radio firmware v0.89. It works well.
The call waiting problem is not present. It is possible to use voice and data concurrently. I haven't noticed any problems yet.
If someone can show me how to make a file available for everyone, I will post it. The radio firmware is about 6Mb and an additional patch (0.25Mb) is required to resolve the call waiting problem.
hipppo
And by the way this is an official hp firmware pack... with the standard hp executable that patches your radio firmware to v0.89. No messing around with SD-cards or flash files is required, it just runs through a USB/activesync connection.
It does not affect the OS firmware - whatever OS ROM image you have (whether WM6 or WM6.1) will not be affected.
However, it will cause a clean boot so you'll need to reinstall any non-ROM software and data.

upload here my friend or u can upload to 4shared or mediafire
If it doesn't affect the OS rom, why is it doing a clean boot?
Hippo, mail it to me [email protected], I'll find a way to upload it. Is it fixing the auto shutdown issue btw.

hi hipppo,
but who gives ou this radio fw? or did HP return you a 614 with radio fw 0.89?
hipppo, use free www.rapidshare.com upload (free temporary storing for files smaller than 100MB) or axlastro proposal, asap
No matter how it work and what after cleanboot - we will check it quick
hipppo, what about mentioned low audio signals level fixing? Is this also corrected in this upgrade?
hipppo
It is a very good news. Please, send it to me via mail (sergiorus#gmail.com), i will integrate it to Yevg001 ROM.
For gmail it must be compressed with 7-zip or other not serviced by gmail. Each exe, also compressed with rar/zip, will not be transferred by gmail....

Well i just compress it with RAR and rename the file *[email protected] - and voila , gmail is tricked. I was actually going to put it in free rapidshare too or on ipmart. I hope they fixed the ipaq shutting down at 30% but probably they haven't.
Excellent news!!!
I wasn't able to find it on HP webpage.
Could anyone send it to me please?
[email protected]
Very much appreciated.

axlastro
Try to download and install SP38904, as wrote our friend jovanny from 4pda.ru, it fixes this problem on some 614c devices. Bootloader should be then 1.01.00, not 1.01.05. Pls know that as he fund it is the problem of some incompatibility of 1.01.05. with some hardware subversions of 614c. SP38905 works already wrong, seek just for SP38904.
axlastro, where is this link to 0.89???? . Understand you have this already?
Nope, i don't have it, I was just referring to my proposal to hippo to e-mail it to me and I wrote i was going to use rapidshare to upload it, when i have it. I don't have it. Sorry, must be my bad English
Sorry, you wrote "Well i just compress it" and I was full of hope that "it" is "it" - it means 0.89 .
However try this SP38904 to solve your 30% battery problem.
Thanks. I will Does it have sopething to do with the sd card? I use a sdhc 4gb - could it be the card causing the promlems. Sorry for the offtopic. Hippo c'mon give us the 0.89 we need it so bad.
No it is HP upgrade executed by usb.
It is available here:

Sim card (Smartchip) isn't detected when upgraded i-mate Jasjar to WM6

Hello mates,
I updated my i-mate Jasjar to WM6.1 ROM by Ranju and a few others. The update is successful and everything works fine but my cellular connection just doesn't work. My sim card (smartchip) is not detected. Ranju's ROM doesn't let me open the communication manager. Another ROM stays forever on flight mode and I can't even change it.
I live in India just for the record if the Smartchips in India might make a difference. I'm totally clueless on what to do.
Couldn't find any post relevant to this.
Please help.
Thanks and regards,
Aditya More.
my bet would be a radio rom incompatibility, but im not sure.
what radio are you using? it seems that higher wm6 builds require certain radios or something.
no clue what a radio is..
Radio rom. It's part of uni software that is responsible for gsm module (and everything related). You can flash your radio rom the same way you flash any rom. Just use flashing software (ROMUpgradeUT). Though you will need radio_.nbf instead of nk.nbf when flashing radio.
Thanks a ton for that information. I'm pretty new with this.
So well, which radio should I use for my i-mate jasjar? Where can I download it?
Is there like a setup file for radio flashing? Using ROMUpgradeUT would be a little difficult for me. Do I have to flash this file in bootloader mode?
Thanks,
Aditya More.
Download radio here: ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/Radio/
Personally I would recommend 1.18.00. I'm using this one currently, and is working just fine. Though, you can just experiment a little with different radio roms, and find which one is working best with your device.
Actually ROMUpgradeUT IS something like a setup to flash your device, and there is no easier way to flash device. Only thing you need is to place ROMUpgradeUT somewhere along with radio_.nbf and run ROMUpgradeUT.
Anyway just read this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_ROM_Upgrade ,and there should not be any problems for you (at least with flashing).
Also, make sure to spend some time reading universal wiki, if you are new for Windows Mobile and uni.
It's working guys.
@cheapusenet: if it weren't for you, I'd have been still stuck with the bootloader screen. Thanks a ton. I really really appreciate your help man. Really. Thanks for the radio info too.
@Kalgon5: The radio info was very useful. wiki Universal is my homepage. I go through it every single day. But just didn't any clue about radio and flashing. Pretty new. Anyway, thanks a lot. Really appreciate your help.
@Luca: the ROM rules. Very fast, awesome applications, good battery life. Thanks.

Desperate situation with P735 ROM upgrade - Please help

Hi everybody , i am using an Asus P735 device with a German WM6 Rom installed on it. When trying to upgrade it to an English version 6.0 (since i was unable to find 6.1 for this device, which would definitely be preferable), i receive the following message:
"Cross-language upgrade is not Allowed. Please ensure the upgrade tool language is same as the default language of your device."
The thing is i don't want the "default language of my device". How can i get rid of it?
After lots of searches on the net, including on this forum, i've found no answers and in the few similar cases posted the users were left with no answer.
The Asus language unlock tools is of no help whatsoever on this phone.
Can anybody help me with this device?

for desktop PCs ! if you have by example W7 in French and want to put it in English - I mean to get English package by update- this will not work if you have an OEM license -this is not allowed!
so is that with OEMs if you want to keep license !
for your PDA you must find an unofficial English ROM only! also a way to write it to the phone BUT for this to work DO NOT use Active Sync!
I can't give you more details because don't have a PDA like yours but this problem is interesting

try a way to write firmware without Active Sync read this post to see you need some way like that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-378907.html
ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/IA/P735 doesn't works more you have to find somewere a firmware in English as I see no longer Asus support they say this is deprecated sorry to hear that
Hi Ruscan and thank you for your interest in this topic, being the first person to react at all to this problem that has been left unsolved for many years, despite many other people posting about it earlier and who were left with neither solution nor answer/evidence of interest from the side of the developers. I do also think this is an interesting issue that could become even more actual in the future.
So far i was unable to find ANY unoffocial ROM for the P735. I do have the official one (Malaysia) in English though, from Asus's website, yet i do not know how to hack it and eventually install it. Furthermore, i was wondering whether an P750 or P535 ROM could work on a P735 with few modifications, cause the 735 is hardware-wise somewhere between the two.
I am ready to take the time to write the firmware myself yet i have no experience at all in that neither i know from where to start. If to write a new firware then it would be good to finally produce a WM6.1 version for this PDA, instead of the existing 6.0. How to do that, any idea?
Thank you for your explanation and for making this non-sense situation a little bit more clear.
PS: Also, i've read somewhere that the device won't turn-on anymore if upgraded to a different language, does that apply to an update via SD-card as well?
PS2: Installing the Android system on this device would be an option?
..i wonder what would ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe do with your problem..
what's this all about:
p525 had similar problem, that could result in NOT real bricking of device after flash(wrong languague version after reset - device seem to be locked on bootloader then). when tool is used before flash, custom lang roms are working properly(interesting then, what this tool does, btw, as it is launched from WM - so, it may be microflasher, or sth like that).
now...i have strong feeling, that warnings you read about flashing different lang rom, may be related to this ridiculous, small, problem.
issue is, that i do not know, if ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe may help with p735, OR if there's version made for p735.
update: i read this again, slowly:
"Cross-language upgrade is not allowed. Please ensure the upgrade tool language is same as the default language of your device."
...they tell you about upgrade TOOL, not rom.
hmmm, so.. what, if you use tool in languague of...ROM?
maybe unlocklangid code is inside flasher, so using proper updater with proper rom is simple solution?
on the other hand - i am making roms for asuses for years, and i never used default flash method - vide usbloader method(and force mode from BL).
i am not going to encourage you to go this way of thinking, but...

sorry this is just to test my signature will be back but I do not think Android is an option for your phone it is all about technical specs to port Android on that phone and only Asus will have that
by example I know about a project named Andromnia this is how to use Android on Omnia-WM phone
nice try!! but believe me this is about reverse engineering and does not works for now- no gps/gprs/wifi signal and Android crashes
funny, that andromnia showed me, asus user, that android could be real for REAL PDA's.
andromnia works on p750 when proper kernel is used,

sooo..it seems, that updater BUG is reason, not roms itself here.
funny is, that rom cooking for this machine is quite real, if tools i can see are working.
--------------
upd: ok, so, if i see it right, all you need is to:
fully charge battery,
extact exe, get abi,
copy abi to empty sd card(NOT SHDC!),
go to bootloader(hard to say how - try dpad right + soft reset) and
wait.
when update's done, do hard reset.
--------------
of course, i cannot say at this moment, if whole process is safe, it works fine with zinc device(that seem to have identical flash procedures and SAME cross-lang error when manufacturer way of flashing is used(exe)).
i will try to get more info from my mate asap. cross your fingers, and wait a bit.
here's tool you may try to get abi file from original asus updater EXE file:

if it's not working, there's another one, maybe more universal,

btw, are you from Pakistan?
Thanks all of you for your input.
1 - There is NO AsusUnlockLangID.exe for Asus P735 - do not know why.
The one from P535 or P525 is useless on this phone.
2 - Great point about "same-upgrade-tool-language-possibility" yet the official ROM comes in an .exe file that i do not know how to unpack/hack in order to insert the correct ROM or vice-versa.
Could you provide me with some insight for that?
3 - Besides that, do you think a tweaked P750 ROM could work on this phone, or a hybrid P535/735? Wouldn't that be the best/easiest solution, which would in the same way finally create a more advanced ROM for this quite neglected device? The older P535 has even 6.5 ROMs whereas P735 is limited to the basic 6.0. (Does that have any advantage by the way?)
4 - I am open to any way of flashing, given it provides the right result so all your advices are welcome.

@Pupakota
Ok, thank you, i've just read your last answer. I'm gonna try the tool you're talking about and inform you of the result.
PS: No, i'm not from Pakistan though i love the country, are you from there?
PS2: Any way to port the 6.1 version to P735, to kill two flies in one shot ?

p750 is different pair of shoes, nothing would be useful in this case. do not try any roms made for different devices(trivia, i know).
-----
i dare to say, that any rom is possible for 735... while searching info, people made every possible build, including 6.5's...ALL chinese :E
rom from exe is exctractable, then fully dumpable, packages are clean and good...
btw, that ABI file is just a renamed rom.bin...
while Activesync method of EXE flashing is wrong, only way of avoiding problem is using SD card flash method then by using that pseudo "abi" file.
dpad to right + softreset should start flash procedure. if not, it may be some key on the right side of the device + soft reset(hard to understand translated chinese...).
but before you decide to try...
could you, AsusP, make photo of bootloader mode?
and please, post link of exe file you were trying to flash, i need it(i mean this english one). for some reason dumped rom from "WWE" version seem to be...hebrew... i really would extract real english rom.
now, only problem is, that besides of one case i did not see any clear information, if sd flash with languague change is safe.
one person wrote it is.
Hi, i'll get back to you ASAP regarding other questions, in the meanwhile here is the link of the firmware in question (that i'm trying to use) :
http://support.asus.com/Download.as...e=P735_FUU_Malaysia.zip#P735_FUU_Malaysia.zip
yup, this one seems to be exactly like one i tried to extract, indeed, it's wwe.
damn, it's OLD
it seems, that cooking custom roms is possible for this device without special problems. new 6.1 or 6.5 should work MUCH faster, than your actual one, or that wwe from asus...
try to make photo of bootloader, and tell me, which version of 735 do you have, 64 mb or 128 mb of ram?
ahh and one last question: do you have original updater with german version of rom, that you CAN flash(i mean, that you have now, in your device)? it may be neccesary, if you ever dare to make further experiments.
"try to make photo of bootloader, and tell me, which version of 735 do you have, 64 mb or 128 mb of ram?"
It is 64MB RAM, same as all Asus P7XX devices i guess, if not upgraded (mine is not).
Sorry, but how do you make photos of the bootloader? Do you mean the update tool?

I have it in the device yes but i don't have the program/CD if that's what you mean. It could be downloaded though from Asus i think...

Bootloader mode flash(with unpacked from exe rom image on sd card) seem to be Only way to update your device.
I am trying to determine risk linked to this method, so i need photo of LOOK of bootloader mode.
You may enter BL mode by pressing dpad RIGHT and making soft reset, if i am right.
then something should appear, and this is what i want you to photograph it for me(with..camera).
of COURSE, do not put abi image on sd card YET, otherwise you start to update, and we do NOT know yet, if you brick your machine or not.
so, at this moment i just ant to see hot it look like, without flashing, if its typical 525/750 bootloader, not some weird thing, i'd assume, that abi file flashing should not brick machine.
sorry or enigmatic words, cannot explain this easier way.

..so not all 735's have 64 mb ram, i'd say, ok?
look, i do not know nothing about your knowledge level, many users of 750's with 128 mb ram are using 64 mb version of roms(typical noob would have no idea to try any different), this is why i mentioned it...
btw, besides using GanFan-ZincROMXtractor's easier way of obtaining rom file from exe is just using restorator, reshack, or similar tool to extract rom at res 152.
result is identical as using zincromextractor, though name of file must be set manually - it is Mars_G4.abi (though, it is not..real abi file, but it doesn't matter).

hey, do you have account on one of chinese pda sites?
could you download and post here any 735 kitchen for me, sir?
i'd like to have a look onto it, but for some reason i am not able to register.
WWE World Wide English - got it.
Pupakota thanks a lot for your efforts, i've had a busy schedule these days, i'll paste you all the info soon.
My knowledge level is basic yet i have some experience of programing from before and i'm very keen to learn about this, more than just using the system.
