O2 Marketing people should go back to school - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

The marketing campaign for the XDA2 has been going strong for a few weeks now, but can anyone actually buy one of those things?
Whats the point of spending millions on a high profile marketing campaign and then not have any devices to sell?

Marketing
Such campaigns are often planned months in advance and slots booked at TV & radio stations etc.
Circumstances are unfortunate, hopefully the devices will start to flow soon.
Regards
Michael

i got one easily, i ordered my phone last wednesday and had it delivered 2 days later on the friday.

Cool, but where from and for how much?

from o2 online

I got mine in a few days as well from 02 Online.
Unfortunately it cost me the full £350 (If anyone else got theirs from 02 Online for less please don't tell me I'd only cry more  )
However it does mean I have my XDA II in my hand and I can still keep the contract I'm on with 500 free txts each month without having to argue with staff. Those 500 txts each month means I have a known bill each month good for my budget
I can now go about trying to flog my XDA with Extended Battery and the special case from EB cases for the XDA with the extended battery fitted. That should recoup some of the money I've spent!

Got mine for £140 from Uplands on O2 400 at £45pm arrived next day

buy at O2 shop!!!
i bought my xdaII in O2 shop for just 200 pounds with a 15 pounds per month contrat.

Best deal on XDA II in UK (e2save.com?)

After being shafted by one stop phone shop, i've been searching for the best deal on a UK based XDA II.
I've just found e2save.com who are doing the XDAII with 3 months insurance on o2 200 for £119. Thats the same deal as one stop were originally offering. Other best i can find is £139.
Anyone dealt with e2save.com? They offer 7 day return and price matching as well.
They quote the o2 200 tariff at £30.99, most other places quote £30. Is this because they have bolted on itemised billing?
I think o2's rule now is that contract has to be kept for 6 months isn't it, then it can be downgraded to a cheaper one.
The double talk and text they are offering at the mo runs out at the end of april. I presume that if i ordered a phone before then, but it didn't get delivered and connected until after, would i still get the offer?
Also is it 3 months doubled for the months after connection?
I will get an XDA II one day, if the offer is right!
cheers
The e2save deal sounds (as you say) comparable to the one that I got from OneStopPhoneshop ...
Do a search on eBay for seller "uncle-jamal" and he is selling XDA II's for £139 on O2 400, with other deals available - but not as good as e2save.
The only other seller I found (via this board) was Uplands, but they were not as good (price-wise) either.
One piece of advice - wherever you go, it may be worth making a quick phone call before placing the order to see if they actually have any stock - I gather that O2 cannot get enough of these models at the moment, and as a result I had to wait 3 weeks for mine from OSPS - it was worth it though.

Mark
When i spoke to mobiles2yourdoor, they said they order them in and there would definately be no problem getting one within 4 days!. I suppose once they've got your money, if there's a delay that's too bad.
I'll phone e2save and see whats what, but i'm sure most places like onestop will say they have them even if they don't just to get the customer.
phoned up e2save today and they said that there was a delivery of the xda II today (thats why the prices have gone up on their site!!)
Well i ordered the o2 100 traiff at £139 plus P+P. They charge £25.99 a month and you get free itemised billing. I pointed out its not free as your paying for it and you can't elect not to have the billing (which other shops allow you to do!)
3 months free insurance as well.
So it should be delivered wednesday, hopefully!
Hi,
Just ordered my from e2save via the phone mine is coming tomorrow, did you notice that the insurance was not being supplied via O2
" 3 months FREE insurance with Allianz Cornhill " with a £50 access and you have to cancel the insurance after the 3 months or the will keep on taking the £7.99 it out your bank
steve
What time did you order yours? I phoned at about 5.30pm, and they said i wouldn't get it until wednesday
yeah the insurance is pretty standard. Its free for 3 months, then you just ahve to cancel direct debit if you don't want it any more. I will probably drop it as its no better than my home insurance.
Shame its not like the old ornage insurance. Free, new phone in 24 hours wherever you are, and no excess, oh happy days
It annoyed me that they changed their offers just because they got stock in!
Hi ordered mine around 3 o'clock (uk) the girl on the phone said they had only just come in, she also said that there was more in stock,
My son who ordered one from Carphone Wharehouse was told that they had no stock on sunday but they shipped it on monday so perhaps a lot of place got some form of stock,
When i spoke to the O2 shop in Derby the guy said that they had a back order list of 10.
steve
Well came today as expected, so i'm happy with their service. Seemed to be the best deal around at the moment. needless to say in a week or so there will be a better one!
I got jerked around by onestopphoneshop too!!!
They accepted my first order on 23/4/2004, asked for utility bills and then just dumped the order without telling me anything, by phone, email, or whatever. I only discovered it when I phoned up to check the order on the 1/5/2004, no reason given. I re-placed the order immediately, but, ahh sorry sir they're now UK£20 dearer AND you have to have a 6 months 02 200 contract not 4 months as it used to be. B*STARDS!
Even then they tried to cancel the order twice as the first utility bill I sent them was a month out of date, and then they lost the second one. It was only frequent and persistent phone calls that got me it at all.
DON'T BUY IT FROM THEM! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Oh, and the free car kit they send you with it? The XDA II is too wide to fit it.
best deals
Guys i went for mobileshop.com
I got my XDA II the next day! with O2 250 + 50 bolt-on for 37 a month
Their service is excelllent and I am a business user

O2 suprisingly good Universal Deals at shop.o2.co.uk

Dear All,
I'm a current XDA I and II owner who has been spending an unhealthy amount of time on the xda-developers forum waiting for the Universal to be announced and then available.
To get right to the point, after considerable analysis I have concluded that O2 is shipping the best value XDA, plus in black it also looks the best IMHO!
To be Specific: (GBP = Pounds sterling)
a) Went to O2 shop website
http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handset/SelectHandset.do?paramName=3g
b) choose XDA EXEC, select 12 Month tab, Online 50 contract
c) Phone costs 139.99 GBP
c2) Yes, I'll say that again: Phone costs 139.99 GBP
d) 12 months contract at 19 GBP monthly = 228 GBP
e) Total 12 month committment is about 370 GBP.
f) Customer service say unlocking is 15 GBP
g) Consider the ITS (International Traveller Option) for 3 GBP monthly to reduce the totally outrageous cost of non UK calls to only moderately outrageous.
The best deal I have seen so far. But wait for the potential gotchas:
1. Though I have saved a screen print I was suspicious that the 12 and 18th month contracts had the same online 50 tarrif. Hope not a shop error
2. I was sent an order reference but can't seem to check it online
3. O2 customer support say my order is with the credit checking dept and there may be a problem.
With my naive and optimistic head on I hope O2 will honour my order and I will be a happy and satisfied customer.
regards marcus
PS: it also says: Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 (though when I called customer support they said this was incorrect and are getting back to me Tuesday 18th December 2005)
They still only have the 2MB and 4MB data bundles though by the looks of things.
Not that you would want to risk the deal, but aren't you also free to switch tariffs after 6 months?
V
Could we in the US get that phone, with that plan, pay it in full, and just toddle off? No harm, no foul since paid in full for 12 months. Still a better deal than buying it here locally.

heh - my thoughts exactly..
thats bout 690$ us !! 8)
could be nice ay?
Wow.. ok let me get this sorted in my head.. I can get a HTC Universal for one year for only £367.99? If so why do people pay £669.95 for the JASJAR?
A lot of people don't like getting involved in plans and have carrier locked phones. So they spend the big bucks and buy an unlocked device.
I'd really like to know if US residents can buy this device on the plan mentioned above and pay it in full. Save us about $500-$600 dollars US.
Anyone know?
O2 Online 500 Tarrif
I just got my O2 XDA Exec today and am still waiting for it to charge,
Not sure why they aren`t advertising it on the website but.
O2 have a fantastic tariff offers for new 3G handset customers.
I called the www.o2.co.uk/shop (08702257879) and was sold the "Online 500" package with the O2 XDA Exec handset.
O2 XDA Exec = £139.99
Online 500 = £35 per month (12 month contract)
500 inclusive X-network calls
500 text messages
1mb per month free GPRS
Also took the comprehensive insureance = £4.99 per month
(This phone is so expensive offline. That if I lost\damaged it I doubt that I`d buy it offline)
Noticed the comment on the O2 website about:
"Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005"
I asked the sales rep to confirm and he says that if its on the website then its gospal. Also confirmed with O2 customer service.
I don`t think you can find a better Tariff...

I'm pretty sure thats a mistake. Exec isn't an imode phone. So if the imode bit is wrong - the gprs bit is almost certainly wrong as well.
Please tell me how to dial the number from the US........(tech smart, analog phone DUMB)

Hi. I went for the same deal and received it Monday morning The only disappointment is that even after 15mins of haggling, getting them to drop the price and contract rates, 02 couldn’t match it when upgrading my XDAII.
I don’t understand that at all :?

O2 Exec Deals
Just got mine for 109.99. They offered it at 229.99 but after I said I would take out another online deal for 139.99 + 19 per month for 12 months, they came back with this deal on my original contract. I am currently with O2 on contract @30 per month. This is now being reduced to £20 per month for the same minutes etc saving £120 over the year (leaves the phone costing 109.99).
This comes just at the right time for me as I'm testing Exchange SP2 with this device for a few companies that I deal with.
Roll on tomorrow!!!!
It doesn't have the feature pack install, how will you use the Ex 2003 SP2 puch mail without it?
First post so hello all!
I've just bought an XDA for £114.99 plus 12 month contract @ £19 per month.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/o2uk/j...tails.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2:XDAExec:3G:GROUP
I'm not a student and there were no eligibility checks.
Alternatively register with Quidco and get £35 off the £139.99 (eventually)
O2 XDA Exec..
I'm a tad confised
On the URL posted above it says "Pc Sync - No"
I 'm assuming that this is incorrect ................
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/
looks like this is a student offer so they may limit what the device can do
Just placed my order for an XDA Exec from O2 shop too, hopefully it should be with me Saturday morning. I opted for the Online 200 at 30 pounds per month and got the handset for £139.99. I went into an O2 shop after work and although they had 2 in stock, they wanted me to pay more for a contract and still pay £149 for the phone! How ridiculous! Anyhow, I can't wait for my Exec to arrive, I shouldn't be upgrading really as I am only 5 months into an existing contract with my XDA IIs. Figure I can sell that with all the accessories (GPS etc) and break even paying off the rest of my existing contract.
Hope this free GPRS is not a mix up, nobody seems to know for sure, but hey we'll see!
Fin
Well a colleague and I have been using O2 GPRS with ActiveSync over the internet to sync with Exchange 2003 for months and still no data charge. So Im pretty sure the no charge deal is still on. It will be painful when it finishes though. I think they just want to hook everyone in.

Or have I misunderstood?

O2 UK Great Pricing error.

Get them while there hot again, O2 stores have got an error on there POS system, which they are not able to correct untill Friday, consequently, you can get a new XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard) for only £79.99 on whatever Tarif you want, including the low price base ones, got my two upgrades free but with a £50:00 trade in of a crap old nokia got myself a third for £29.99 and an additional £7:95.
So I am now the proud owner of 3 HTC Wizards which cost me in total the princeley some of £29.99.
So don't miss out get down to the UK O2 shops with your crappy old trade inns now before they get the system fixed.
Thanks Chaps,
Regards Ash'e
Is this right? You can buy a non contract wizard for £80?
I'd be interested in one for development...
V
Hi - what did you have to supply to get the £50 trade in - just phone or other bits of kit?

No, he said on whatever tariff you like, so probably 10 or 15 quid a month and 79 quid outlay initially.
Blimey, if I'd have known that I'd have stuck with o2. Ah well, never mind, T-Mobile seems fairly good and cheap...
Trade Whatever you want
Hey Guys
you can trade in whatever phone you like, as long as it boots and as long as you have its charger.
Then you get £50.00 back taken of the £79.99 leaving you with just £29.99 to pay (bargain) but here the really good part, untill the end of the week you can put it on any tarrif you want including the low band ones starting at £16:00 a month. But hurry chaps they won't let this keep going on for long.
Best Regards - Ash'e
As an Added Bonus
Oh & forgot to mention as an added bonus O2 are also offering DOUBLE MINUTES & TEXTS for SIX MONTHS on all UPGRADES & NEW CONNECTIONS (BONUS SCORE)
Regards Ash'e
PS - (Can you really go wrong chaps considering the real value of the Wizard)
(& Think of what the other poor sods in the rest of Europe have to pay.)
(Now if we could only get an I-Mode browser for the wizard to take advantage of O2 great new service, Still I live in hope, O2 I-Mode is totally free till the first of January & I-Mail is Totally Free till April 2006 eclusive to O2).
This poor sod is on T-Mobile netherlands and paid 110 euro for a 1 year 150 minutes (21 euro a month) contract renewal...
That sucks for me. Because i have an online contract, i can't take advantage of any of these deals.
The upgrade centre don't even have the XDA mini on their systems yet!!
So angry
Just tried this on in my local O2 highstreet store and they wouldn't do it. They basicaly said 'thats obviosuly an error, f**k off'.
Oh well, at least I tried...
I called O2 for an upgrade and they said I could have the Mini S for free or the Exec for £150.
Yep - got my XDA mini with O2 - lowest tariff, traded in a broken mobile.
Scott
Where have you had sucess doing this? I tried a shop in central london and the guy wasn't having it at all!
Hmmm. I need to look for a discount airfare r/t over there. LOL
low airfare.
well, new york london for only £120 check cheapflights.com
ehehehe
Geez, I haven't been into UK since I bought my nickel plated, Metisse framed, two barreled weber carburated, side hack mounted Trumpet...and then left my wife and kids in the hotel to ride it back to Germany...in November. LOL
Man, those were the days..197?
Check out This
http://www.mobileswizard.co.uk/display.asp?hs=xdaminis&tariff=none
to compare O2 plans and how much you will end up paying if bought online
and this for T-Mobile
http://www.mobileswizard.co.uk/display.asp?hs=mdav&tariff=none
I like the info on the right saying "Min Term Cost"
gives you and idea of how much you will end up paying.
Still the tradein offer (if you get in 25 quid) is cheaper making it. £217)
Or even if you dont get trade in and have an offline tarif for £16 you will be paying £291.
Think anyone can beat that??????
let me know I am after the phone.
Call O2 Store Uxbridge
Just got mine yesterday form the O2 Store in Uxbridge, payed a grand total of £29:99 for it on upgrade, on my low tarif asked the same deal is available on new contracts, if you don't believe me call the store on (01895) 252163 ask for Greg (Nice Aussied Chap) and you will see. That other O2 store is talking BS,
Regards Ash'e
Well Done, just been down to O2 in Bath, got mine on O2 25 £16 per month, all the staff have bought one this morning as well. traded in crappy old sony phone. bye bye exec..
Richard
i just got an 02exec with a 19pound per month plan ...
is there a way to get the wizard for 29 pound only without signing up for more months?
what is an upgrade? i dont get it...
thanks

O2 website pricing error

I'm new here (been lurking for a while) and in the process of haggling with my local O2 shop to match my previously bargained Orange tariff to a XDA mini and O2 tariff. Anyway...
Last night whilst browing i noticed that if you Select a XDA mini S on the O2 shop website, instead of being charged £79.99 on all plans, it comes up as £49.99 on all plans.
Hope this is of some use to somebody
Cheers
I thought you had to trade in an old phone to get them for fifty quid, but not if they're making mistakes (again)! Given the number of mistakes that O2 have made recently, I'm surprised they're still in business!
Good find.
Of use to me - many thanks! Kneale
whats the cheapest plan availabe  ?
Just be careful they dont say it was a clear error and charge you £79. Bonus if you get it for £49 but maybe be prepared to pay £79.
Tell you what though £49 for a mini S is one hell of a bargain. Its a fantastic piece of kit. God I paid £50 for my nokia 3650. Also a very good phone in its day and still a good phone to be honest.
There is no mistake now as the price is shown as £49.99
In just a couple of weeks the price has dropped from £99.99 to £79.99 and now £49.99. At this rate it will be FREE in the next 4 weeks on contract.
Me being a student, I ordered it at a price of 54.99 on Friday and just had it delivered yesterday afternoon :?
Now the student price is less than 30 :x . Is there anything I can do about it? Also why is the price being halfed so rapidly?
Return it. Reorder on different card.
I'm yet to receive an order confirmation for mine...

Yeah gutted as I just paid £99 for mine just before christmas. You should get a refund if they drop it within a certain time of you buying it. £50 ive just wasted. Not buying a phone just before christmas again. Still got them back with the exec deal
I got mine instore for £79.99 with £30 back as trade in for an old broken nokia and charger on Data5 tarrif (5Mb data per month only - no calls or sms) at £9.something per month. So basically £50.
The guy in the shop never questioned my choice of data only tarrif. He also trusted me to come back with a mains charger as I took a car one with me.
It also seems they are not concerned about people re-flashing firmware and removing the O2 extended ROM (which makes the phone MUCH faster - I did it today). They will help you get your gprs and wap settings back after the flash
I bought one today - arriving tomorrow. One helluva deal! 49 quid for any tarriff - I went for the 12 month contract on the OnLine tariff £19 a month with 50 cross network minutes, 200 texts and 1Mb of downloads bundled in.
I also bought a 2Gb high speed mini SD from moby memory (http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=miniSD_2048mb_MOBY_001) for £87!
Bring 'em on!!!
... I did give the O2 shop a chance to match this deal. The best they could offer was a free phone on a £70 a month tarriff locked in for 6 months... and they were out of stock.
£87 for a 2 gig Mini SD is VERY cheap! Thanks for the link!
its 50 pounds now :S
Sorry Don't want to mislead anyone. I actually paid £49.99. Next day delivery was free though.
I just ordered one yesterday at 79.99, just seen this price drop info and ill be calling them tomorrow to tell them they best not be charging me 79.99 when its on the site a day later for 49.99!
Sizer, let us know what happens
Will do, just noticed the time of this post aswell. It was about 5-6 hours after I ordered it too!
Any chance the original poster can confirm what time they saw the offer??
Has anyone had their phone delivered within the last few days like me? I had mine delivered on 9/1/05. I ordered it on 6/1/05 though. I am hesitating a return as I do need it right now and have not yet emailed them. How exactly should I word it?
Price match? Re-imbursement? Refund? Don't want to sound like an @$$.
EDIT: actually I am going to email them...here goes nothing
Personally I am going to phone and speak to a person. Email isnt direct enough IMO. I will simply be stating :
That the price was dropped several hours after ordering and if they do not give it to me for the new price I will use it for 13 days and return it on the 14th. There is a 14 day cool off period. I will then inform them that after I have returned it to them they will have to then sell it on as 2nd hand/refurb and that I will place my order again for one at the lower price.
Under these conditions it would be far easier and more beneficial to them to alter my invoice accordingly and save wasting my time and their time/money. And if that fails, I will simply return it and go to another network operator that looks after the customers they already have rather than a company who just likes to get you as a customer then forget all about you.
If anyone does phone them be sure to make a note of the date/time of the conversation and get the operators name in case you need it for future reference. I have been caught out before simply because I could not provide these details...

Cheapest way to get an XDA Exec with o2

Anyone got any ideas?
Steal one??
Try http://www.mobiles4everyone.com/ they're pretty good.
cheapest way to get an exec
O2 stores offered 50 pounds back in the form of a cheque for old handsets if given in when a new contract was undertaken . I cannot confirm if this offer is still available but they took my broken V600.
an 18 month contract will assure you a cheaper handset than a 12 month one; and invariably more minutes and text, though I ended up cancelling my contract and migrating to t-mobile as O2 were crap in the data package front (not much point having an exec if u can't afford to browse on it!)
If you wait till the Trion comes out, I should imagine the Exec will come down in price to make it more attractive. That's assuming they ever release the Trion.
Or you could buy one off ebay - I sold my Pro unlocked with GPS for 250 quid last week - they've plummeted in price since I bought mine, and they'll get cheaper if you hold out.
Well I managed to get my Exec for FREE plus an O2 500 contract for £25/mth. Basically, I phoned asking for a PAC code and said that I was going to move over to Orange as they were willing to give me an M5000 for FREE. Try and see, if you don't ask you don't get.
I got mine in January when they put the mis print in the catalogue and it will cost me a total of £162 over the full contract length.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36677&highlight=%A3162
Surprisingly enough that offer was pulled by the end of January but you can still sign up on the data 36 for £14.50 a month.
I would probably just go or ebay though. They are so much cheaper there.
If you do decide to go for the data 36 tarriff, be sure to add Data Centric as its a free add-on that will give you pay as you go o2 calls. Without it, you can't call anyone.
