Hi I know this seems a very silly question, however after reating the manual and try after try I cannot manage to turn off the XDA.
The manual reads, press and hold the power button (top left). When I do this the backlight of the XDA turns off but the handset is still active and will still accept incoming calls.
How stupit am I, but how the hell to do switch this device off?
Go on have a good laugh but I am getting  .
Cheers guys
Matt
AT the top of the screen there is a signal meter, just click that and you will be offered the option to turn off the radio, also in profiles you can select flight mode this will turn off the radio then you just press the power button to turn off the xda.
Don't keep the button pressed.
Just press and release, can take a few seconds before it switches off.
XDAII has two functions: PDA and phone.
To switch off phone: Click on signal icon at the top of Today screen. Click "Turn Wireless off" or in some version click "Turn Flight Mode On"
To switch off PDA: Press the power button on top of your XDAII. Press and release, wait a few secs, your XDAII will switch off. If you press the power button and hold, only the backlight brightness will 'turned off'.
To switch both PDA and phone, switch off phone first, then PDA.
Hope that helps.
Cheers guys worked great.
All the best
Matt
speed?!?
When I choose to either switch wireless off or to open the ultra profiler it takes a couple of minutes to do. Is my XDA2 unusually slow or is that just the speed of the machine?!? :? I am getting so frustrated with the sloooooowness of it
the XDAII gets well slow!!!
can take bout 1 minute to turn my wireless off!
btw. if you want to turn off the GPRS but not the phone (to save battery life) hold down the red "end call" button on the case for 5 secs.

I keep finding the backlight on my XDA II keeps turning itself off, I have to go to the backlight menu and I find the "on battery power" backlight setting is set to minimum. It does this randomly with a fully charged battery. Might have to buy a torch if it keeps this up!!! Any ideas?
I thought I had the same problem, but it turned out to be my own fault.
My XDA II would be off and I'd press the [Power] button, to turn it on ... no backlight. I discovered, quite by accident, that if you press and hold the power button, it in fact turns off the backlight.
So ... when turning it on, make sure you just press the [Power] button and DON'T linger.

ardarby is quite right. It's a great option once you know about it to save battery... I use it all the time now, when I'm outdoors if you push and hold in the power button it turns off the back light. If you want it back on just do the same.. Push and hold the power button...
Nice one!
Cheers! I was on the verge of a 20 minute wait to speak to Orange support, thinking I had a hardware fault!
I had the same thing when I had my XDAI. Strangely it seemed to happen every time my gf had been using it, and in the end I worked out she had assumed to turn it "off" it was the same as Nokia's where you have to hold the power button down.
Saved me a similar call to o2!

thanks for the hint, I had the same problem with my qtek 1010, that I got mad at my kids (poor kids) every time they used it I get it back with no back light. It is a bit different with the 1010, you press for power, and then you can toggle between back light on/off by a second long press on the power button.
Well, now I see no need to buy a new one
this forum is superb! My problem with backlight off solved again
Thanks all
Dear friend,
how do I do to put OFF completely my magician XDAmini?
Best regards
Daniele
Take the battery out?
And pushing the power button?
The power button can only put the phone is Standby. In PDA phones there is no such thing as OFF. The RAM needs power all the time. Sliding the battery cover in and out will also power off the device. Don't leave that long though, otherwise you risk losing all the information.
Hello,
I'm new so plz be patient. Ok, pressing the power button only allows us to set the device in standby mode. How do I turn off the phone (gsm) mode then? The idea is just that I want to figure out a way to reduce the power consumption as much as possible.
Thx for all coming answers..
To turn the phone itself off click on the signal strength indicator then click on 'Turn on flight mode'
This turns off the phone part of the device but leaves the pda side still functional

Alrite. But is there a way to accomplish that task with hardware buttons? Guess not, ey?
Just don't wanna pull out my stylus that often.. *g*
Press and hold the power button for several seconds. this will actually turn the device OFF.
Do the same to turn it back on.

This is not true. When you do that, the background light will be off, but the phone is still working.

You could install PocketZenPhone from here: http://zendrui.free.fr/ and then, as long as your fingers are not too fat, you can press an icon on the today screen. 8)
Cool, thx for this hint.

I don't think that the GPRS is using that much power, but to turn it off, hold the RED Phone button down for several seconds (I never timed it, I just wait for the "GPRS Connected" icon to disappear.
Your best bet for power consumption is to lower the screen brightness to it's lowest level, and set the screen backlight to go off at 30 seconds, and lastly to set the device to power down at 1 minute of inactivity.
copy this app to your magician, in a folder you want. Bind it to a hard button or make a shortcut on your Todayscreen with SPB Pocket PLus or another program.
PocketZenPhone (the tray version of it) can also be used to set the profiles via hardware buttons. This can be done with making shortcuts to the .exe with setting the specific profile. I'm using this together with MortButtons to switch between my profiles of PocketZenPhone.

Yzord; no it really does work (did you try it ?)
Yes, pressing the power button briefly just turns the screen off ; I think we all know that.
However holding the button down for several seconds will allow you to turn it off completely. = power off; no applications running; no phone or other network connections; zero power consumption, nada.

the best way to stop using magician:
charge battery to 50%
do a backup
pull out battery
pack you magician
several years later
get it out
put in battery
do a restore
charge and use it
(maybe 5% drop one year, so can put aside ten years

It will still lose some power in keeping the RAM filled, if it loses all power (goes very slowly however), all your installed programs and data will be lost. It takes a long time, but it still uses power to keep the RAM chips powered and the clock correct. Furtheremore, with the Magician it keeps the phone and alarms awake, so you can receive calls. You have to turn on flight mode manually to turn the radio off. Also you have to turn off all alarms to prevent your device from waking up. Your method is more like the one used on the Wizard, where holding the power button for 5 seconds really turns everything off and when pressing and holding again makes the Wizard start up again (with boot screen and all).

Also thought of this when I first got my xda mini. Now, after some reading here in the forums, I just switched my xda mini to flight mode before I go to sleep. It turns off the phone. Hope this helps.
Even when I untick 'On Battery power Turn off baclight if device is not used for ... Time', my Jasjar baclight goes off in 2 minutes. And, if I set this to 5 minutes still my Jasjar backlight goes off in 2 minutes. Also, when I choose to 'turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped, it doesnot turn on any button or screen tap. I can turn it on by power button or Call reject red button. Any registry hacks/ Am I missing something? I would like my backlight always on untill I press power button. Also is there any hack to turn on power/ backlight automatically when I open the lid?

Maybe a soft reset (fixes lots of weird problems like this). Cheers,
yeah and if soft reset doesnt help, do backup, sync with PC and do hard reset.
Is there a proper way to switch the phone off like a pc or do you just keep the button on the top pressed and then click yes when it asks if you want to switch it off.
The only reason I ask is that I wondered if you can put the phone in stand by etc...
I'm pretty sure that's how you turn the phone off. If you just press (tap) the power button for like a second , then it goes into standby / sleep mode.

Yeah that is all I have been doing, but just when it comes up with the warning I thought maybe it was just like pressing the power button on a PC... Cheers
a normal press of the power button: suspend/sleep - all programs except GSM services and some core services (e.g. event service) are suspended.
a press and hold of the power button: a complete power off. Device is not operating at all. Incoming Phone call, alarm or appointment notification will not happen.
I just bought this phone today and I cannot put it in standby. Is there a button to put it? In other phones you just press the power button and it goes in standby but it doesnt happen here. It eventually goes into standby itself. How can I put it in standby myself?

I have a Dash 3G which is basically the same phone and mine doesn't have that either. Basically the only way that I know of would be to go into your power settings and change both the backlight and display times to as low as you can. Mine is set like this:
Backlight time out on Battery: 30 seconds
Backlight time out on AC: 1 Minute
Display Time out on Battery: 30 seconds
Display time out on AC: 1 minute
That's prolly as close to sleep or hibernate you'll get with it that I know of. You can always tell it's sleep because your wi-fi will reconnect when you come out of it, well mine does anyways...lol. Hope this helps.
When I hold down the red "End Call" button, a "Quick List" menu comes up with the first option being "Power off"

Power Off is not the same as StandBy...
I have not been able to find a StandBy button, however I usually lock my Snap when not using it by holding down the #key. This seems to force a degree of "StandBy"...
