VoIP Client for XDA2? - Networking

Hi. Does anyone know of a good VoIP tapplications that runs on XDA2? Thanks

You could try this one:

Jos,
Thanks for the link. This application looks great! Have you had much luck with it? What I'm trying to do is to uise my XDA to make long distance calls to my family while I travel overseas. Assumption here is that I am on a WiFi connection to broadband or using flat-rate GPRS. Not sure if GRPS bandwidth will suffice but I'm willing to give it a go. Few questions if you don't mind.
Which application on the PC have you had best success with?
How do you cope with NAT? When I connect to GPRS for example the pda application thinks I'm on 10.250.xxx.yyy but the actual IP my XDA is pingable from outside is 203.126.xxx.yyy... Similar applies to my PC where I hookup a brouadband router which lets me share my link amongst few PCs at home. I can open up certain ports on the router and forward these to the right IP/PC in the home network but I need to figure out the ports used... Any chance to get this without resolving to trusty old vxSniffer?
Apologies if I bombarded you with these questions and also to the rest of the fellow forum members. I think this may be taken as a slightly off-topic post but on the other hand it is related to networking on the XDA so I hope it does not offend anyone.
Regards
K

PPP (RAS) Server on PPC?

I have an old SMC Wireless router that has a serial port for a backup dialup link. I'm thinking I may be able to hack this thing into a gateway for my XDA if I can run a PPP server on the XDA. Yes, I know there are a couple more hurdles to overcome, but right now my burning question is...
Does anyone know of a PPP server that will run on Windows Mobile 2k3.
I did bump across this interesting link... looks like many of the pieces for RAS services are already there. Anyone know how to enable this?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...-us/wceras/html/cerefGlobalServerSettings.asp
Lastly, has anyone else come across any other cheap ways to tap into their wireless network from xda using the serial port? I'm really surprised there isn't a market here... yes I know 115,200 bps is hardly blazing speed, but it would SMOKE my GPRS connection when I'm around the house. Add compression, could get > 200Kbps vs about 30 I average with GPRS.
Thanks,
Josh

I have got the xda2s recently as well and I have been trying to connect to the internet via my router at home, but no use.....is it from the software or it needs some sort of upgrading steps??
I hope some one who is proffessional in this matter could reply to us and tell us what to do?

I offer to help. But you seem to want instant gratification, with no effort on your part. That's not going to work. Nor is doing everything everyone says. How many times will you post the same thread? To connect you need to do a series of steps. Little baby steps. Their can be a number of reasons why you can't connect, part of connecting is finding out what is wrong.
Not wanting to do it that way, I suggest you find someone local you can pay to stop by your home and set it up for you.

Internet through USB from PC

Hi All,
I have searched the forums but can't find anything on my specific issue. I used to have an XDA Orbit and if I connected it via USB I could use my PC's internet connection. Is there anyway I can do this with my shiny new G1. The reason I’m asking is I have bugger all reception at work and the Wi-Fi is located in another building, which is too far away.
Please help!
Hi,
My above post has been moved here but im not trying to connect my pc to the internet using my phone, im trying to conect my phone to the internet through my PC.
As far as I can see this post does not apply to my question, can somebody please help? I can't be the only one this applies to!
If the computer has wifi and is connected to the internet through wired network it can be done...
Is this your case?
My work PC doesn't have Wi-Fi. My home PC does though.
All I want is for my G1 to be able to use my computers internet conection via USB. My old XDA Orbit used to be able to do it via active sync.
i.e I can surf the web on my phone using USB connection as the access point
Any ideas?
As far as I know this probably will not work, but you can try reversing the port forward technique with ADB

Why would you want to surf the web through the phone when you have a PC on the other end of that wire which does the same thing, but better?

Several reasons that i can think of
1? Bad reception indoors, so i can waste time at work by downloading useless apps on my G1, and everyone thinks im working.
2? My cell provider charges me for internet bandwith usage (per kb/mb), im cheap and don't wanna pay them.
3? I'm a massochist, and enjoy using the G1's browser more than firefox(bleh!)
4? I'm running out of reasons now
All this hypothetically could be hypothetical.
Yup, im bored at work
Exactly, item 1 sums it up. I have no reception at work so if I have a data connection I can get email notifications and test out my apps. I can't believe no one else is missing this feature. On my xda I had it set up to sync with my various email accounts etc. It wouldn,t be a problem if tmobile's reception wasn't so poor!
I would assume it is possible but would have to forward ports from your computer to the phone, similar to how the thetherbot app forwards ports from the phone to the computer. But I may be wrong that could be a one way street for data.
Wow...you are a masochist As much as I like the browser on the g1 compared to other phones..I just don't see why you'd always want to use it instead of a PC
I don't want to surf the web on the G1 when right infront of me I have a PC. I simply want it to have a reliable data connection when I'm at work. As I have no signal from t bloody mobile and no wifi!
Nobody made a sync application similar to MS ActiveSync?
Why would we make something that is already built in?
ohh forget it. Your obviously not reading what i've written.

No you obviously haven't paid attention.
Why would we create something to sync our phone to our computer when it does it all OTA. On top of this how did you expect it to sync our calendar and such when it is all proprietary?
What exactly do you want "sync'd"?
And once again... I am sure you could figure it out if you read up on adb forward commands.

As my first post says I have no reception at work at all, this means I go all day without being able to sync my various email accounts etc. I would also like to be able to demo what our device can do to my collegues. unfortunately i don't understand adb or indeed know what it stands for and as I have no programming knowledge i thought I would speak with people that do.
I will try to figure it out for myself and post my findings here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it would be useful.
I'm also looking for some solution to use my Laptop's internet connection on my G1 via USB. The reason for this is I have a very weak neighbors wifi and only my Laptop can connect to it. I am writing android apps that need to connect to the internet.

you could set up an adhoc connection on the computer and connect to it on the g1 then bridge the networks
unfortunately my work PC does not have a Wi-Fi card so this wouldn't work. damn it whys it so complicated!?! :-(
You could just buy a router.

Reliable VPN with Topaz

Hey everyone,
Recently I gained interrest in using a VPN...not for bussiness purposes..just because I can
If I understand the technical facts correctly, the diamond 2 has a build-in VPN capability and my router should allow VPN pass-through.
So far,so good.
But just because the devices CAN establish a VPN connection it doesn't mean the functions are designed user-friendly.
So I decided to ask you guys: What is the shortest way to establish a secure connection from my phone to my homeserver? Remote Access would be great, but at the moment I would be happy just using my MP3-Collection "on the road"
In theory I think I know what to do: Find the right VPN client for both server and phone, establish a connection and finally get Windows to share several folders..so the phone can access them.But...as I've said...in theory
There are about 5 Million VPN programs out there...some good, some not quite as good, some free, some REALLY expensive.
I figured ANYone should already have done what I wanna do.
I would really appreciate any kind of hint.
Oh,and if there are some glitches in my grammar or choice of words: Sorry...not a native english speaker

I'm having the same issue. any answers to this would be great. i'm brand new to the smartphones but was a geek from way back... its awesome how far tech has come and all but it's been ten years since i played with linux or any kind of actual programming or networking. while i am eager and excited to learn this inside and out... a cheat sheet of sorts to get me started would be great.
Lets see
Have you tried to use another Navigator as OPERA? or tried to confirm if you have Internet Connection trough wifi? you can try this with the Windows live Messenger for WM or with the Windows Marketplace.
Another tip: try putting off the Security of your router. i remember than in WM5 (few years ago) my wiza Won't connect to the router because the Security was WPA. to get it work i just put WEP security Password.
Good Luck!
