xda charger - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Any one know whether I can use the charger from a Compaq ipaq
It has the same power rating 5V 2A with the + in the centre
I have left mine at work and may need to charge XDA2 over the weekend
thanks

The charger current is ok but the connecter is different and I dont think the removable connecter that comes with your xda will fit on the end of the charger plug, if you plug in the ipaq connecter you will probably kill your xda.

Thanks for the info. I have an xda1 connector here and your right the ipaq charger does not fit. Would the xda1 charger put some in the xda2 even though the rating is only 1A ?

My XDA won't charge

There have been quite a few postings here on people having problems charging their XDA with thrird-party chargers originally built for the XDA I.
Add me to the list I"m on the road and can't get the damned thing charged using the charger.
However the good news is, that the problem is not the cable (or the connector for that matter). Right now I'm in the internet cafe using the USB-connection to charge the XDA II at least a little. THis is working!!
My third-partz charger is a power supply with a USB-socket, that connects with this charge-sync cable. But, its not working! This leaves two possibilities:
1) The power supply is providing a lower voltage than the XDA II requires (something less than 5.0 Volts, mazbe 4.7?). I can't check this here, but if someone with a similar problem could measure his charger voltage using a multimeter, we might find an answer. Pins to check on this site under "connector".
If this is the cause, it won't help me here, but at least we'll have the problem solved.
2) I noticed in my charger, that the USB/pins 2 and 3 ( Data-H and Data-L) are unconnected. Potentially the XDA II has an issue if these lines are floating whilst power is applied to the USB-bus. I don't know if we can check this easilz,bu if someone has an Idea?
Greetings from the Maldives 8) Sun, warm, great, but no power for my XDA!!!
mobile charger
I'm using a nokia charger, and the supplied adapter and it seesm to work fine.
MDA/XDA II Pinout - Charge Issue Resolved!!
Being back from my vacation, I immediately got into figuring out why my third party charger was not working, though the MDA II would charge through the same cable when connected to the USB-bus of a PC.
It was a wiring error in the USB-cable after all!
To figure it out I took that little adapter that comes with the original charger apart. Though the MDA/XDA II has the same pinout as the MDA/XDA I, there is a major difference in that not all GND pins are connected together inside. In order to charge, at least one of Pins 16,17,18 must be connected to ground. The grounds on pins 2 and 5 are not connected to the internal charge circuit. TO make things worse, the MDA/XDA detects an external charge power source when pin 2 is GND and Pin 22 is +5V - so the light goes on, but it still does not charge.
On my cable the USB-shield was connected to pin 18. When connected to a PC, the shield was connected at that end to Ground and all went well. On my charger supply, the shield was not connected, so it couldn't charge.
I just rewired the connector and see there it works!
So, if you have the same problem, and are handy at the soldering iron, there is a solution! For those making/selling those USB charge/sync cables, get it right the first time!
Is it safe using a Nokia Charger ?
My Nokia travel charger is rated at 6.2 V, not 5.0 as the one supplied with the XDA II
Regards
Michael
Yeah! But watch out anyway because the volatge is not the only thing to check before charging a device. The right voltage but a bad amperage can cause lots of damage...
Using the Brando USB charger woukd actually DRAIN the battery when the bar reaches yellow....
Using a Nokia charger
The Nokia is rated at 6.2 V 720 mA, the original charger is 5V 1 A.
If I understand my physics right, the XDA may draw more current that the charger can handle, so AMP vise, the danger is on the charger ?
Not that I belive that the XDA would really pull 1A, but you never know.
It would be really nice to have just one charger in the travel bag..
Regards
Michael
Suggest a USB Charger and source.
Can anyone suggest a usb charger cable and source in the UK for an O2 XDA 2 as the one that I have currently does not charge at all despite the light saying so.

This was the effect I had. Its a mistake in the wiring on your cable.
Thanks,
What I am really after is to find out if there is a place to find a USB cable that will work right out of the box/dodgy package that it comes in. I am not good with soldering irons or electronics and would like to buy one that is wired up correctly to charge my XDA II.
Cheers.

Motorola BT h700's chargers compatible with tilt?

I just bought a motorola BT H700 with car and wall charger and I havent used it to charge my tilt.
I would like to get a confirmation if its 100% compatible before I blow up my tilt. Any H700 users ??
It will work but the capacity is a little weak, something like 500ma vs the normal 1amp from an HTC. Also HTC shorts 2 ground pins in the mini-USB connector that don't really affect other USB devices but this tells the phone that it's on a charger and can pull power at a higher rate than std USB as I recall. You won't blow up the phone, but I would only use this to charge if the phone was off.
I just tried charging my Tilt with my newly acquired H700 Wall charger and he didn't work. Most probably because of what RemE said ; the capacity is a little weak.
Now my question is what if I use my Tilt wall charger is it going to damage my H700 Motorola Headset?
I've been using my Tilt charger to charge my H700 headset for a few months now, with no issues. Works great, and saves me from having to lug around 2 chargers when I travel.

[Q] Is the charger connector proprietary?

I was just wondering if the charger in the Omnia 7 box has a 'proprietary connector' and not microUSB.
At least that's what I understood from this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=2RQBB2v08hs
I am still getting the Omnia, but I would see the lack of a microUSB interface mains charger as a step backwards, and environment-unfriendly
Thanks!
No, it's standard µUSB. You can use every µUSB charger from HTC/Samsung/Motorola aso.
Thanks a lot... That's really good!
Anyone know if my Hero charger will be ok - it's a higher Amp rating than my Samsung and Blackberry chargers but is a USB charger (ie I could plug my USB cable for the Samsung into the top in place of the mini USB cable that's plugged into it at present if I wanted).
Cheers.

A charger with higher ampere is okay because the battery decides for itself how much amperage it wants to have.
Merely the voltage must be correct but this is USB standard anyway.
Thanks Skycamefalling - saves buying another charger then!

Compatible chargers

Anyone else have any experiences they'd like to share using non-OEM chargers?
I use my HP TouchPad charger in my living room, as my HP Touchstone plugs into it usually. It charges the N7 at exactly the same rate as the OEM charger.
Just curious about others' experiences.
Oh....and is anyone else w/the HP TouchPad just completely spoiled regarding tablet prices? $250 seemed like a lot of money to pay, LOL.
http://saraoutlet.com/yxt-023-us-2-...for-apple-ipad-iphone-4g-3gs-white-35561.html
I use this, it charges my iphone, ipad, ipod touch, samsung, and now my nexus. I have one for the car as well that is 1A/2.1A.
the blackberry playbook 1.8a charger works really well. indistinguishable from the supplied OEM. available for $16 bucks or so in retail packaging.
I've used the same charger for my Galaxy SII. Seemed to do the job well and just as quickly!
I have a few blackberry chargers one is a playbook one and some other android chargers.. they all work just fine.
I'd love to know if there are any portable chargers that will charge the Nexus 7 without being plugged into the wall, so, I can charge it when I'm laying in bed or something, I have portable USB chargers that I don't thing would work with the 7 The Duracell Powerhouse USB charger and the Sony Media CP-ELS USB Portable Charger with 2,000 mAh Li-Ion Battery, I use them interchangeably with my iPhone 4S and Playstation Vita.
Okay, I went through my "wall wart" drawer and tried 8 chargers and 9 cables. I can't find any pattern to the results
There was one cable (skinny black generic USB) that didn't work with charger, and one charger (from a Kingston Wi-Drive) that wouldn't work with any cable.
The best cable was a white mini-usb (that I used with a mini-micro dongle) that had come with my generic 5000 mAH backup battery; it worked with *everything* except the Wi-Drive charger. The best chargers were the OEM ASUS charger, and a generic small black cube (1A) labelled "KIN"; those worked with every cable except the skinny black dud.
The worst of the working chargers were an "Innergie" dual laptop/USB power supply, and the generic battery backup. Those only worked with that white cable.
Honorable mentions go to an old Motorola RAZR charger (used with a mini-micro dongle) and a small Samsung phone charger. Those have permanent cables, and both worked.
I couldn't pick up any pattern in terms of amp rating (obviously, the lower amp chargers will take longer). It seems to be "luck of the draw".
I've tried probably 4-5 different chargers including a Motorola wall charger plugged in the wall, and also plugged into a power inverter in my truck, a motorola car charger and an oem wall charger and have no issues with any of them.
iPad 3 charger compatibility
Can anyone confirm if N7 charges using the new iPad 10W charger? Mine only supports the charger that came with it. Does that mean that the usb port is broken and I need to replace it or is it the way all the units behave?

It charges using my iPad2 charger, which I think is the same charger as the new iPad?
The Nexus 7 does not show charging when plugged into any of my OEM/aftermarket Apple chargers.
It does not appear to matter whether I use the USB cable supplied by Asus, or a standard commodity micro USB cable.
There is evidence from other users that the tablet may be charging at the 1A rate even though the charge indicator stays off.
I have not personally confirmed this yet.
Im using the charger of my BlackBerry playbook! 5volts 2amp!
From 0% to 100% in less than 3 hours!

I bought 10 of the HP Touchpad chargers for $5 shipped a few weeks ago. They work perfect for the Nexus 7, same plug, 2AH charging..
I think you can still find them for $5 shipped @ hp.com
All my micro USB chargers work , from Nokia to BlackBerry to HTC all fab all charge the n7 OK

I've had one of those OEM/aftermarket Apple charges blow up on me (not shrapnel, it stayed in the plastic casing), so I wouldn't expect much from those anyway. Have you tried with any standard micro USB phone charger?
Chargers that work:
- Motorola Droid Pro (hard-wired micro USB). Rated at 800 mA but seems to charge almost as fast as the OEM.
- Kin One (Uses any USB cable). Rated at 1A, works with every USB cable I have (almost; there were a couple that didn't work with anything). These are available on-line for less than 10 bucks:
http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Standard-Wall-Charger-CNR1002/dp/B005IY428Y
http://www.aftermarketcellular.com/ic/CNR1002.html
This is nice and compact; I'm going to order a couple of more to have as spares.
- Motoroloa RAZR (hard-wired mini-USB, used with mini-to-micro adapter). Rated at 500 mA. Works, but probably pretty slow.
- Samsung (from unknown phone; hard-wired micro-USB) rated at 750 mA. Didn't test charge time.
As an aside, I have a 5000 mAh backup battery that I've used with phones and my Nook color (http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-External-Motorola-Blackberry-Nintendo/dp/B004P8E612). It works with the Nexus, but ONLY with the mini-USB cable that the Power Bank shipped with. Every other cable I've tried chokes. It's intended for an iPhone and puts 6.5V across the power pins (with no load; this is about the same as the Kin) and pulls the data pins to 3.4V. What's weird is that I can connect a 2-conductor (charge only) extension in series with the working cable, so that the data signal never reaches the Nexus. If I use a 2-conductor cable by itself, the Nexus doesn't charge.

When you say they work, are they showing as AC charging when you use them or are they just charging.
Go-to battery stats and it will say either
Charging (USB)
Or
Charging (AC)

Compatable car charger
It's really disappointing to know N7 is so picky about chargers. Can anyone report on a working small/short car USB charger that is compatible?
You might want to check that your vehicle can provide 2amps from its cigarette lighter plug. Normal only utility plugs can do that.

Slow charging unless using OEM cable

Whats the deal here? Anyone find any other cables that work? If I use a monoprice premium cable with a 1 amp car charger with bluetooth and music going it won't charge. But if I use the same car charger and use the OEM LG cord that came with the phone the phone charges fine. Same thing in the house plugged in with the stock charger base. Its super slow unless you use the OEM cable.
There is a HUGE thread about this.
I think we've narrowed it down to the AWG thickness of the cable. The Stock Cable is really thick and able to carry the voltage properly. Using another cable with thinner wires, it can't provide enough juice.
But there is a huge thread on this already.

The new chargers are 1.8A vs the old 1A charger. Less amperage = Less power, that is why it is slow charging. The width of a cable can limit the amount of amperage passed, so for 1A you can expect a thinner cable.
