Cooking 2002 ROMs with dialer skin - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hello, there!
I just tried to cook a PPC2002 ROM with a modified dialer skin. Though the new files get stored in the ROM file (I dumped the contents of the file afterwards to verify it) I end up with the original Windows dialer skin. The modified files do not show up on my device.
WM2003 ROMs don't behave like that.
Anyone?

mkrom for WM2003?

I have been looking for a mkrom that works with 2003 ROMs. since kitchen cooks 2003 rom, there must be one version of mkrom that works with 2003.
I downloaded the kitchen, and tried to use the small set under one of _/ directory to cook my version of 2003 without setting out the entire kitchen. but got into one problem. -- the xda does not boot
it shows the boot screen, and the G324e4, R6.10.00 4.00.11, then stops there
one thing I figure went wrong is:
the default.reg I got out of default.fdf is oly about 30k large while the old 2002 version of default.reg is more than 200-300 k large.
any one can help here? I cooked based on 4.00.11 rom, which by itself installs on my xda fine.
Hi Pine
If you are trying to add files to you're Rom you will need to use an original (Not one from Jeffs Kitchen) as the XIP segments get screwed if you try to re-write them. (not sure why) If you run Mkrom without adding additional files you will find it loads fine.
Richard
I was not trying to add my files at all. I downloaded a rom, followed the step to cook a new rom without adding any of my files. the resulted rom does not load. quite disapointing experience.
I used the 4.00.11 rom, used the 4.00.11 directory in the kitchen download, modified mkrom to comment out the wince 3 version variables and uncomment the 4 version variables.
anything else I should do?
or the kitchen downloaded from xda-developers.com does not actually work with 2003 yet?
O.K.
Rom Kitchen contains parts of the old Mkrom but relies on more perl scripts to do the work. I have done the same as you and it works fine for me. Best guess is you havn't converted the the default reg properley did you use tr -d "/0" <default.reg>default.txt to convert ? check that you can actualy read the output if its in hex then youv'e done it wrong. The output file should be around 8 to 12 kb

How do I integrate apps into the OS ROM for Wizard

I have been able to extract the EXT ROM and OS ROMs using the NB2NBF and IMGFS tools. I know that by using a custom ROM I can save on storage space by loading in my programs. I'd like to load Pocket Informat, Alarm Today, Phone Alarm , isilo and TCPMP into the OS ROM. How do I do this? I have all their cabs. I will keep reading the forums too.
I know that some like summiter have done this. Anyone able to help me get started or point me in the right direction?
J-Man5
the only device i ever heard supporting that is walaby
dont know if it's possible with other devices
i mean the os part of the rom is well you know full already
yes it is possibel.you need a tool called [typhoonnbfdecode_v5] look for this tool and how to use somehere in the ftp, and here in the wizard forums
you need to make a dump of the os from a nk.nbf image with the above tool
then you need to extract the files from de cabs you want plus the reg settings,
simply copy the extracted files from cab to your rom dump folder
make a cab file with the reg files from the cab files an also the shortcuts to the programs.
repack the rom with the typhoonnbfdecode_v5, convert the nba image with NB2NBF back to nbf and flash, after that install the cab with reg settings plus shortcuts,
you have a long jorney ahead.
i took me several weeks to make my own rom with netcf.2,adobe acrobat e several other programs integrated to the rom.

OK I have gotten the nk.nbf extracted and the EXT ROM opened using winimage and the OS ROM dumped via imgfs.
Where I am running into problems understanding is how to unpack the .cab install files for the programs I am planning on using and how to "move" them to the \Program Files\ directories that they need to be in. For example PocketInformant is loaded into the \Program Files\WebIS directory. Do I put all the files from the .cab file in the dump OS directory? Is there some sort of program that will extract the .cab file and let me look at what registry settings are being set by its installation?
What program is used to create registry settings into a .cab file?
Thanks

Hey!

Now i want to Install Total Commander to a Folder "\Programme\Total Commander\".
How can i do this? Or is it only possible to copy the files without any folder?
Sry for my bad english

extract a program from an eten rom

Hi, i'm a proud owner of a universal (qtek9000) i'm looking for the software "cyberion voice commander" (non speed dial) italian language, unfortunately does not exist an italian commercial version of this software(otherwise I would buy it ).
I've an italian Eten rom (.exe) that have this program in extended rom, someone can help me to extract this program without install the rom (I haven't an eten )
Thank you...
From memory (it's been a long time since I did this, so it might all be wrong), for the Eten roms, run the installer, and it'll extract to a temp\ folder (use a file i/o tracker, or check your temporary files folder for which folder).
In there, I think you should find one file that is marked something like extended or something, and that can be opened with a standard virtual disk editor like winimage. Extract from FAT.
V
as i read in eten-user forum I've initially extract " EUU.exe", "USBDLUpdate_console.exe", "upgrade.bat" i think that upgrade.bat is really the rom and maybe contains the extended rom.
Now what do you suggest me to extract the program from this .bat
thanks a lot
What rom are you working on? Do you have a copy we can have a look at?
Thanks!
V
rom 215 Ita for Eten M600 , maybe in eten ppc there isn't an extended rom...
You have pm with the link to the rom...
Another ppc that have a rom with voice commander in rom is asus p505...
Thanks again...
Hello.. So, did you find the way to extract voicecommander from the rom??
I have the rom file (temp.dat 59.611.764 byte)
If someone needs it, please tell me that I'm going to share it!!
Thanks
I have ROM 230wwe for the eten m600 if you need it...I would like to know also how to extract this EXTROM.
Thanks
Does anyone know a way to extract files from an eten rom dupm (temp.dat file used in the flashing process) ?

My very first fully-working cooked ROM for Sprint Mogul!

This is only OS + ExtROM, does not include radio nor splashes nor SPL.
This is basically the same OS+ExtROM as found on Sprint's latest official ROM 3.56, MINUS all that Sprint bloatware (OnDemand, AudibleAir, Sprint Music, etc.) occupying both OS and ExtROM space. I also removed Sprint Navigation and Sprint TV from the ROM and ExtROM (respectively) because I want more control on how Sprint programs are installed (into the device vs into SD card); I have the separate CAB installers for Sprint Navigation (TeleNav) and Sprint TV so I can install them the way I want. I also removed the ringtones from the ROM because I don't like Windows Mobile's approach to copying ringtones from ROM (\Windows) to internal memory (\Windows\Rings) which effectively results in unnecessary file duplication within device memory, but I have stored the removed ringtones into an SD card so I can later add them either to \Windows\Rings (with no wasted copies in ROM) or to \Storage Card\Windows\Rings.
The amount of memory I gained this way was used to (1) update the core fonts (Courier New, Tahoma) to the latest versions found on Windows Vista (the versions found on the original ROM date way back to 1999, even in WM6.1! plus WM only includes regular-face Courier New, I had to add bold/italic/bold-italic versions), (2) add smartphone fonts Nina and Segoe Condensed, (3) add the Windows Vista version of Japanese font TTC MS Gothic/MS PGothic/MS UI Gothic (the AC3 compressed version is still outdated, version goes back to 1999 ), (4) replace the USA wince.nls with the Japanese wince.nls (which includes all charsets found on USA wince.nls + adds Shift-JIS, JIS, and EUC-JP), (5) add the WM6 Japanese IME files, (6) update the SymbolPad's config file to allow inputting almost all the Pan-Euro characters found in Vista's Tahoma and all math symbols included in MS Gothic, (7) add PQzII with some customized bitmaps so you can map CTRL, ALT, and IME to any buttons you want, (8) add PHM RegEdit, Notepad and a few other PPC PowerToys (I also added MADE because it is more powerful than Notepad), (9) add KT_Capt (print screen!), and (10) add FontOnStorage (yes, a very old program that dates back to WinCE 3.0, but still works on WM6.1 as long as the fonts in your SD card don't conflict with those already in internal memory). I preserved Adobe Reader LE, the Camera app, and IA Zip.
I modified the registry entries to (1) enable ClearType and menu animations (but disabled HTC's EnlargeMenu because it doesn't play nice with menu animation), (2) set internet cache/cookies/history to load onto SD card, (3) display both date and time (and AM/PM) in title bar, (4) enable font linking so Tahoma can work together with MS UI Gothic to display full Latin/Greek/Cyrillic/Japanese, (5) enable and configure the Japanese IMEs, and (6) set the new black Vista-like HTC theme as the default rather than WM6.1's solid-green default theme or Sprint's annoyingly-bright orange theme (although both themes are still included if you want to use them).
I used NBHExtract on the original stock ROM to extract the NB files, then NBSplit/ImgfsFromNB/ImgfsToDump to dump the OS, then PKGTool to convert dump to packages, then the usual ROM-kitchen procedures (remove unwanted files, add wanted files/packages with some help from CAB Extractor and InitFlashFiles Generator, modify RGU entries, regenerate DSM files with BuildDSM, modify packages.sof with XVI32, and dump XIP with RomMaster), then BuildOS to "bring packages to a boil" into new dump, then ImgfsFromDump/ImgfsToNB/NBMerge to "simmer" new OS.nb, then HTC Extended ROM Editor to remove the Sprint bloatware from ExtROM.nb, then finally NBHGen to "bake" both OS.nb and ExtROM.nb into the new ROM.
As I said above, the radio and splash image NBs are not included in this 82.2-MB ROM; adding the radio and splashes, the ROM grows to 94.1 MB, which is still 2.5 MB smaller than the stock ROM (even after adding that big, uncompressed Japanese font MS Gothic which is about 8 MB, but that's because the font itself is smaller than the whole combination of OnDemand/AudibleAir/SprintMusic/TeleNav/ringtones).
I thank pof/TheBlasphemer, mamaich/Tadzio, bepe, AnDim, and bot for all the executables they made that made my ROM cooking possible.
For those Sprint Mogul owners who don't want outdated fonts, annoying bloatware, or duplicated-in-device ringtones, my ROM can be downloaded via RapidShare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144942116/Sprint_Mogul_3.56_OS_ExtROM_only_by_Unicode787Plus.exe.html
congrats! I just cooked my first couple roms a few nights ago, and one for my girlfriends titan too. its fun and addictive!
Sprint Navigation (TeleNav) and Sprint TV installer CABs
For those who download and flash my Sprint Mogul ROM and still want TeleNav and Sprint TV in their Moguls, they're attached to this message. Just copy them to an SD card and install them, easy! (You can install them either into internal memory or into SD, makes no difference!)
Will later post the ringtones I removed from my ROM.
Sprint Mogul ringtones
Ringtones removed from my ROM are attached to this message. For some reason I had to split them into two different ZIP files because xda-developers constantly refused my single 2.18-MB ZIP (even after using Legacy ZIP 2.0 compression method)
MMS
There is no way to add MMS (PIC/VIDEO)? I'm not using the 8525, i have a new MOGUL (SPRINT)
Sorry, I don't use MMS at all (and VERY VERY RARELY use SMS), so I don't know how to add MMS support to Mogul. For that you'll have to ask either mamaich or bepe in either this forum or ppcgeeks.
If I flash your cooked rom.. and I dont like it ... can I flash back the original rom.

What is up with the battery icon on the upper right. It looks like it is broken. Is it supposed to be that way. Otherwise everything works great.
What exactly is the PQzII for?

Yes you can flash back the original ROM - by redownloading it from the HTC website. Same procedure if you try any other custom ROM - like mamaich's or NoChem's kitchens...

Read my private message - that explains the purpose of PQzII.
As for the battery icon, I don't know. If you disable date/clock display on the title bar (either by doing so from Settings or by messing up with the Registry), then you'll see a useless battery icon instead of the clock. HTC's own custom battery indicator (shows only on Today screen) is a bit more accurate, but not as accurate as Palm Treo's own custom title-bar battery icon. If I could somehow copy Palm's battery-icon code (cannot do so directly from the phone - it seems to be copy-protected, and I don't have access to a Treo WinMo kitchen) and transplant it into my next Mogul ROM, then I would be happy.
Hi Dear,
I was looking for the same thing you done. I just wanted to remove some of the programs (like office mobile, pdf, audible air, sprint navigation etc) and not to added anything else to that original rom. The process you described over here is quite short and not elaborative. I tried and reached upto the step of generating "imgfs.bin" but thereafter i was hanged and i could not do any more i.e. dumping, packaging and the reverse process. Can you do me a favour and give some detailed steps or if possible can you give me the link providing details on this as well as all the required softwares (I done all these steps on command propmpt, is there any better way like grapical interfece)
Very eagrly waiting for your reply.

Once you have generated imgfs.bin, you must dump it with a tool named ImgfsToDump.exe. It will create a folder containing the whole dumped image. Then you must use another tool, PKGTool.exe, to unpackage the dump folder into its constituent package subfolders (called packages). Now it's just a matter of removing unneeded files (be careful here, you don't want to remove files that are needed by WinMo itself) and updating outdated fonts (Courier New and Tahoma) with newer versions (you will first need to find on which pacakges they are located, then copy the new versions onto those same package folders) and, optionally, adding new fonts, input methods, or other programs onto the Custom subfolder. You will also need to edit some RGU registry entries (each package may have one) in order to activate some features or input methods. Then you will need to run another tool, BuildDSM.exe, to reprocess the edited packages. Then it's time to build a new dump from the new and edited packages: you will need to download BuildOS for this. BuildOS has a tool called BuildOS.exe, but running such a tool is tricky since you can't just double-click on it (it will crash), you must run it from some batch file located just outside the folder containing the tool; BuildOS.exe will convert the packages back into a new dump. Then it's just the matter of reconverting the dump into a new Imgfs.bin (with ImgfsFromDump.exe), inserting Imgfs.bin into a new NB file (the ROM itself) with ImgfsToNb.exe, then repackaging the NB file into the final NBH ROM with NBMerge.exe.
This is roughly all I can remember. You can optionally seek help from other fellow users, since I learned my technique from one or several of them: mamaich, no2chem, maybe Asukal...

*Request* 6.1 ESP (0C0A) Lang package

Hello there, im trying to make a 6.1 rom with ESP lang but i can't port the one posted by Da_G be cause the rom maker cab sends me problems with some files.
I hope some of you can help me with the lang porting or any pack I can use.
I'm using Old style kitchen made by aeroflyluby
Since you are speaking about WM 6.1 i suppose that you got the right build from the right Da_G thread....anyway ,here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547314
Actually I'm using that package that you mentioned but no luck, when i change the files from the SYS folder the program "my build os" sends me an error anywhere and if y solve it (by deleting the problematic file) the rom maker (the .cab that calls the pack of tools) sends me an error while is rebuilding the files so I dont know what I'm doing wrong.
Do I have to use the SYS files with or without the 0409(ENG) files or i have to replace them?
Is there any proble if I cant find any 0C0A(ESP) OEM folder files?
I hope you can help me.
Regards.
If you are cooking for 0c0a then every 0409 folders must be left from your kitchen.
With 0c0a SYS you need 0c0a OEM at least OEM_Lang_0c0a otherwise your rom will not work.

Oh i see. So i can extract 0c0a OEM files from any 6.0 dump folder? or I have to find a new oem folder files for 6.1?
BTW i'm cooking for a BenQ-e72 so I can't find any rom in spanish except for the one that came with my phone (WinMo 6.0)
a_GWM 6.0 OEM should be work with WM 6.1 at least you will need a WM 6.1 Initflashfile.dat (it is in OEM_Lang), sometimes Da_G shares his build within the Initflashfiles for every language, check in that thread to see otherwise try to cook it with your 6.0 initflashfile.dat and check if something is missing in StartMenu.

Thanks for the fast answer. I'm going to look for the WM from Da_G but I don't remember if i have seen that thread before, and btw I will take some time after I can post any advance be cause I'm not at home. for now I can only ask things if I have any question.
I have tried what you said but no luck. the phone wont start. it just stay in black screen, i don't know what i'm doing wrong
can you xplain exactly where does your rom stucks? maybe is not a SYS trouble maybe is a XIP trouble due to not pòrting ok or maybe is the wince. nls WWE or any SYS pkg missed
Well the rom wont give me any image, it just shows me a black screen and the normal screen lights for the rest it does nothing.
Once i got lucky but I had problems with the Start menu be cause i wasn't able to see the icons, i think it was caused by the initflashfiles.dat but now I can't do it again
