Here is the info I got on Linux devices... One on order!
I appreciate your interest of MIZI Linux Phone Editon.
I am, however, afraid to tell that we are not planning to port our product into HTC Wallaby.
We are targeting to port for a newer device.
If you still want to purchase our product sample, then I suggest you to buy a Samsung SCH-i519 which is widely selling in China. It supports dual language between Chines and English thus you will not confused to use it.

Taiwanese company that makes the Wallaby and the Himalaya, as well many other of the current PDAs. Very good at making devices, not very good at supporting their devices after they're built.
why do you say so?... have some bad experiences?
IMHO, HTC not sold their devices direct to users, but to vendors like O2, Dopod, iMate, etc. so the one who will support or service users is vendor. and the one who support vendors is HTC. CMIIW...

Taiwanese is Chinese
(Mod edit: Don't go there on this board.)
Not sure if this is going to be implemented on the new forums, but the point of the encyclopedia is that when the subject word appears on the forums it can be clicked to show a 'definition'.
the definition is the last post in the thread SO DONT CHATTER ABOUT IT HERE.
If you have something to add/change copy what the old definition said into your post and then change that.

named HTC after the founder - H.T. Cho, recently acquired all Dopod subsidary in South East Asia
Note that Dopod is HTC's own brand in East Asian countries, not acquired.

HTC has its own-brand devices in China(including mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau), Singapore and other East Asian countries named Dopod.

HTC Signs Acquisition Agreement with Dopod International

This news is from here:
http://www.dopodasia.com/global/news/20070508_corporate.html
"Microsoft® Windows Mobile® smart handheld devices, announced today that it has signed an acquisition agreement with Dopod International, one of the leading PDA Phone and smartphone distributors in Asia, to purchase the assets of nine Dopod subsidiaries, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, India, and Philippines.
The acquisition agreement, still subject to shareholder approval, was approved by HTC's Board of Directors on May 8, 2007, values the assets of Dopod International's subsidiaries at the sum of Dopod International's adjusted net worth at the end of second quarter of 2007, certified by CPA as of June 30, 2007. The transfer of all assets will become effective on July 1, 2007. HTC estimates that the sum will not exceed USD $14.5 million dollars. The combined marketing, sales, and service capabilities of both companies will strengthen HTC's position within the Asian market, providing consumers in the region with a comprehensive range of mobile devices and services. To maximize the synergies of the acquisition and to implement new joint business initiatives, Dopod International's entire workforce will be expected to join HTC. Dopod's vast, accumulated experience in the retail market will benefit HTC as HTC expands its brand presence in the future.
After the acquisition, HTC will unify the products under a single global brand. In the future, all of HTC's new products will be marketed under the HTC brand. However, Dopod International's current on-the-market products will still be sold under the Dopod brand name. Furthermore, to provide first-class service to existing Dopod customers, HTC will offer after-sales support to consumers who purchased products before the acquisition."
Will this effect us who bought Dopod product before acquisition? Or we can still our guarantee for our product?
Any one know? (wu usually you know much about dopod)
Thanks...
Yes of course there is still full support/guarantee.

they have been wanted to do this for years, finally it's done. DOPOD was originally for Asia Market only, and HTC is for Europe Market, now there is just one global brand call HTC.
DOPOD and HTC are own by the same person in the first hand anyway, all the people who work for DOPOD will merge with HTC, therefore all the technician will remind too. Which is a good news for people who bought HTC X7500, DOPOD usually provide a better ROM. In turns of service and support, DOPOD owner don't need to worry, it will be carry on from HTC ( The Asian market is still handle under DOPOD people, it just they are call HTC now).
So in conclusion, both HTC X7500 and DOPOD U1000 benefit on this , and the amount of support we will get increase. Now we just need to hope HTC made the right decision on taking the path of brand building, as you might know, HTC used to manufacture most of the PDA before (for HP and Dell...etc). But because HTC decide to start selling it's own device, this make HP and Dell unhappy, so they start pulling out and ask other people to manufacture their device. A risky road for HTC but if they want to grow big, this is the only way, they want to be the next Nokia.
Anyway, DOPOD is working on WM6 update for DOPOD U1000 already, haven't heard anything from HTC yet, but it's quite likely DOPOD will also handle the HTC WM6 update. Afterall, they are really the same.
Thanks... for the reply...
Hope the dopod indonesia will going better to ...

yes, that right, there is no real reason for the processor they use, sometimes it's due to the amount of stock they have for each processor.

Too good to be true???

This shop has the p6500 for US $710 shipped to the USA. This is much lower than anyone else. Has anyone done business with them? They want Western Union which scares me...

No trusted is a scam
I sent a western union mo for a single cellphone and they reply that in order for them to send me the phone I need to buy 5. in no moment that was mention, the only thing that was mention was that if I buy 5 phones the shipping cost would be free. I request my money back and they refuse to send it,i lost my money.
Sorry to hear of your problem, I hope you somehow resolve it. I see Expansys USA (aka MobilePlanet) has Spanish ROM P6500 for about US $825. This is about $100 lower than WWE ROM versions...
So, why not just flash the WWE ROM to it? Expansys are checking to see if the paper documentation in box is multilingual or not; I may buy device if so. I wonder if I need to HardSPL to do this and if so, so what?

Hey toyfreak and others -- if any of you ends up buying the Spanish version and flashing it with the WWE ROM, I'd be really interested to hear how it's done and if it works. I've quickly become very dependent on my P6500 and chafe at the thought of spending $1000 to replace it if it ever needs to be sent away for service or -- even worse! -- gets stolen. It would be nice to know that there are less expensive replacement options out there.
Thanks, Alan

Not true. I used to sell on eBay and paypal wasn't available to me so I used Western Union sometimes.
I agree that scammers always use it, but that doesn't mean that all using it are scammers.
I see now mobileplanet.com (expansys-usa.com) now has the p6500 for $734.99... Damn HTC for not making a US-spec Touch HD!

HTC HD2b (US Version w/ 1GB ROM) to see Europe or UK shores?... Err, nope!

Just to assist anyone who is maybe holding out for the higher spec model outside of the USA - some insider non-news for you from the horses mouth:
QUESTION:
Dear HTC,
Are any of the UK mobile networks now providing the new version of the HTC HD2 that was recently released to T-Mobile USA (namely 'HD2b').
I believe this is physically identical except for the 1GB ROM instead of 512MB on the existing UK/Europe spec devices.
Do HTC envisage that this new spec device would generally replace the lower version once existing UK stock is sold through? Or are HTC genuinely continuing to manufacture two subtly different specs of the same device for Europe and USA regions until it is end-of-life.
Your time and advice would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Adam R. Hirshfield
Information Systems Security Senior Specialist - Networks
T-Mobile (UK) Ltd.
RESPONSE:
Dear Adam
Thank you for contacting us.
In regards to HD2
I can help you with that.
The uk will continue to get the original model as released the other version you mentioned was negotiated for one of our partners and was specific for them. It is a bit like the G1 only being available on t-mobile
I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.
Thank you for contacting HTC.
Best regards,
HTC
So there you have it. Unfortunately it's not news to be T-lighted about - Sorry.
Either emigrate to the States, jump-in with the existing spec UK/Euro model, move on to a Desire or await (ages) for the GSM version of the EVO. My personal preference would be in that exact order.
Though the HD2 vs. Desire is quickly becoming a very tough decision. WinMo vs. Android debates aside, so thinking hardware only; The Desire's AMOLED display is gorgeous and it really is quite sizeable. It's exactly the same resolution, and colour and brightness really are superior on this one. But it is never as impressive in sheer scale of the HD2's wicked monolithic screen.
Arrrgh maybe that's why we have two pockets?...
All the best XDA-devs,
Hirshy
I don't really know what to do now either... But definitely not desire I can't downgrade the screen would be such a massive difference, rest of hardware seems really competitive though. I quite fancy the Evo but is not even annouced to UK. Is a tough decision, no doubt I can upgrade to Iphone through vodafone, but that'd be the last thing I'd do, and definitely not WP7S. Anyone can clarify xd...
