I have connected my XDA to my LAN through a VPN (GPRS) connection.
I'm able to access shared connections on my PC from the XDA but I'd like to know if it is somewhat possible to do viceversa, i.e. access XDA folders and files from my desktop pc using windows explorer (not activesync).

for the life of me i cant figure out how to transfer files between my XDA and Laptop using Wireless Lan. I've configured both devices so they can actually recognise each other and are connected to the same network, how the hell do i start to transfer files between the 2 devices?
I think you need some file explorer software, like z2 PocketLan http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2825 for a free trial here. Let me know if this helps?
Open Pocket IE or file explorer and type "file:\\Hostname\Sharename"
Where hostname is the name of your Laptop and sharename is the name of the shared folder.
This will open an explore window on your PPC so you can copy file between the two devices
I’m looking for help networking my O2 XDA IIs with my Windows XP Pro Desktop via a Wireless ADSL router and the XDA File Browser software.
Currently I have my XDA connected to my Wireless router and on the internet. It can access the internal router configuration and I can see the XDA on the DHCP table so I know the connection is good. I can also ping my XDA using my desktop but the XDA does not appear in the available networks list
Using my XDA to try and access my desktop: I enter the path to open in file explorer (\\XDA IP ADDRESS) I get the message;
"Network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network"
When I try the same thing on my PC I am told “The network path was not found”
I have disabled both the Windows firewall and Norton Internet Security but this has not helped at all. Anyone got any ideas?
What software are you using? I've found that you need something like POCKETLAN or RESCO FILE EXPLORER in order to do this on my 2i and 2s (before I ditched it for stability reasons). Both of these allow you to map network drives to the network folder in file explorer.
i have the same problem with my qtek2020i. Why?
Can any1 help us? PLEASE
Thanks for the replys. I managed to solve the problem by getting a copy of vmNethood installed. Works really well and if you enable the Network folder you can map network drives, the map is put in the network folder. I'm now happily listening to musing in other rooms on my XDA
PS. All my stability problems were serted (well 99% of them anyway) by installing the 1.40 ROM. Has WMP10 which is nice.
network file share

Hi folks,
I'm considering getting an XDA Exec.
I wanted to check something...
I have a wireless network at home (Netgear 54mbps router, two PCS and a laptop connecting wirelessly).
Am I right in thinking I can connect the XDA to the wireless network and then both access the internet with that conection, as well as access files on the home network?
For example, could I be sitting in the lounge with the XDA Exec and surf the net with no data charges using the wireless network? Also, could I access a video file on the network and watch it on the XDA? Or an audio file for that matter?
Best,
CDC
guess you could do \\Network resources name\videofile.ext
or easier way is to use total commander it's free
yea, i do it all the time with my exec, i use resco explorer to access files on the network

I use resco also, but here is a question. is there anyway to get windows to pick up the XDA in my network places on a windows XP machine? as my xda picks up my xp machine fine. but it wont do vice versa?

by 'Network resources name', I take it you mean the IP address of the machine where the file(s) are located + the path to the file?
I have Total Commander on my XDA Exec, so how do I go about accessing the files with that?
RE: Remote NAS Connection
Hi all.
What's the best way of connecting to my NAS from a remote AP.
Would it be best to use a FTP connection?
If so, what app if any do you recommend.
Kind Regards A.Cusack

Ideally SFTP would be better. I don't know what apps exist for that but FTP is unencrypted.
If your router or NAS can run dd-wrt or opwnwrt, you can setup an OpenVPN connection. That is how I access my NAS when on the road. I use ES file explorer to access the NAS over SMB after creating the VPN connection. The benefits to this are also that all your traffic from your device is encrypted and all local network resources are then available to you.
For what it is worth...

Thanks folks, I found a way to access NAS remotely and securely.
I used the "Ajax" file explorer, on my NAS and all I had to do was "request desktop site" and software loaded up
(Got to say after many returned messages telling me my server does not support mobile devices and trying a few apps to establish a FTP connection, I feel silly knowing I just had to request full site)
Something else I've learned...!

How would I share the contents read/write over my wifi network? Similar to a shared network drive?

Hi my friends are using app Samba Filesharing (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba), but I haven't tried it myself though. It starts SMB server on your phone, so you can connect from any PC to your phone.
To access SMB share on PC from a phone, I use ES File Explorer.
There is one important thing: All SMB servers (like Samba Filesharing) need root access to your phone.
I think Astro has a built in Windows file sharing feature.

that particular application randomly reboots my phone. Using Droid NAS for now, its basic but it works, any commandline solutions out there as well? Attempting to get smb/nas and tasker to work together
Have You tried any FTP server in phone, and connect by FTP client from PC?
