2 lines with XDAII - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Is there any way I can get 2 lines to connect to my XDAII?
Orange now sell a data card which I can get with 2 lines, but is the XDA compatible? (after unlocking).
O2 seem to be the worst network of all for data.
any answers gleefully appreciated.

Does the XDA2 work on the Orange (UK) network?

Guys - I'm trying to get hold of an XDA2 and put it on the Orange network in the UK. The main reason for this is that you can have 2 numbers connecting to the same phone on the orange network (a.k.a. business and personal). But I also like the idea of HSCSD - i.e. 28.8K data speed - faster than any of the others.
If anyone has done this and has any comments they would like to share that I will be a happy man.
regards,
i may be way off here but i dont see what the problem should be
a gsm phone should work with any gsm operator
i bougth my xda unlocked and without a phone company licence
i put in my sim and typed in the pin
i put in the grps settings myself
and it were all set
so as far as i see any unlocked xda should work
Hi,
I'm currently using an unlocked MDA2 on orange. No problems so far, phone works, gprs works. You mention HSCSD. This is not possible with the MDA2 - it is GPRS only. Or are you talking of carrying two devices, one for GPRS and one for HSCSD ? ;-)
Cheers,
Oliver
(Oliver - ) if you are using it GPRS with Orange then you would no doubt be able to have the 2 number service they offer.
As for HSCSD, this is a faster version of GPRS - see http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/KnowHow/GB/Grundlagen/Funknetz/GPRS/GPRS-im_Vergleich.htm
The important figure is the realistic data rate in practical usage, and HSCSD appears to be 2-3 times faster. This means your bill will go up 2-3 times faster. But that's not the point is it?
Anyways, cheers d.

2 Lines in 1 SIM, how to toggle between lines using XDA 2

My provider (Globe Telecom) recently released their product Opti-SIM wherein there exist two lines in one SIM. It is easy to use via nokia phones coz you may toggle between lines by using Line1/Line2 in their menus. I'd like to use this special SIM in my XDA2 but I dont know how to configure the said feature. I've searched the whole Settings but I can't see any Line1/Line2 stuff.
I know some of us here have been using Dual SIM adaptor however this case is different, it is only 1 SIM with 2 Lines. I'm hesitant to avail it yet since I dont know if it will work with XDA. Does anyone know how to use it?
2 lines? what are the details of this? when did they start offering this? i'm a globe subscriber too.

How it done on multiple SIMs.
I have programmed my silver sim with 4 sims and I use SIMs' pins to switch between them
Orange in the UK have the option of using two lines on one SIM but I think I'm correct in saying that this is not supported on the m1000 (their version of the XDAII, Qtex2020, iMate etc).
2 lines 1 simm
Orange supports 2 lines 1 simm[/b]. Orange is the only provider that supports this feature. I have Nokia 6600 with 2 lines and you toggel between lines by holding down the hash Key for 5/6 seconds. I have a m1000 and orange says 2lines 1 simm is not supported by the m1000. I have tried the simm and it recieves call on both lines. but you have no way of toggeling between the 2 lines ie you can only call out on the main line.
If anyone works a way round this then it would be welcome. [/quote]
Yes it is being offered by Globe. They can convert your 2 SIM's into 1 having 2 lines (cell numbers) in it. I think they've been offering this since July 2004 or earlier, im not so sure, but they only offer it to plan holders. You will be charged Php300.00 for conversion.
I found a thread but I can't remember which one, someone said you may toggle between lines using SIM Toolkit under Programs. I think the SIM card itself has a menu where you can switch between lines. It can be accessed through SIM Toolkit. No need to softreset. Although I haven't tried that yet, I'll be converting my 2 SIM's tonight, wish me luck.
Confirmed, I'm the living proof globe user, 2 lines in 1 sim. But you'll have to check your O2. I think previous models don't have the sim tool kit found under program files. I'm not sure if this is downloadable. Mine has it in the ROM, so even if I hard reset, it's still there. it's kinda a hassle to change lines though. I'm trying to find a macros to do it. go to program files/ sim tool kit/ my lines/ switch lines. These are the steps.
Question for Ilyas Khan:
Does this mean that if I can somehow get two lines stored onto my SIMM then it will accepting incoming calls on all of them at once? If they're both on Orange I mean.
What about multiple lines from different providers? I would imagine that it's not possible for the radio equipment to monitor more than one provider at once!
You can unblock your phone and purchase something called a ghost sim = 2 sim adapter that sits between battery and external cover. You can switch between the 2 providers by soft reset and choosing on start up. However these are temperamental and took me a while to find one that works on Himalaya's.
JPS is referring to the DUAL SIM Adapter discussed in some threads, but that is a different strory as discussed above where there are 2 lines/numbers (from 1 operator) on 1 sim.
Dual SIM adapters give you more flexibility and let you switch between SIMs by switching radio off/on. The ones that fit Himalaya are the King of Doublecard MAI-E (no cutting!) or any Ghost-SIM-adapter (need to cut both sims).
BTW One of the forum members is working on an app that lets you switch between the two SIM's in a dual-sim adapter via a today-plugin (also makes the active number visible!)
i also have 2 lines 1 sim from Globe, i use sim toolkit, but sometimes its doesnt automatically change you have to change to airplane mode and back again.

Pay As You Go XDA 2 ?

i am recently deciding whether to part with my cash and buy a xda 2. First of all are they worth it? Also would i be able to use a pay as you go sim card from a samsung v200? which does have gprs as it has o2 active i was just wondering as i do not really want to go to a pay monthly plan
thnaks in advance
How much you paying for it? It will work with the sim you have as long as its an O2 phone, if not you can unlock it for free.
it will probably be £270 unlocked and yes i have a o2 sim card
You won't be able to take advantage of the full internet GPRS, I had no end of trouble trying to connect to MSN and websites outside of 02 active, even after numerous phone calls to 02, they never got this sorted out.
As far as I know, on a pay as you go simcard, you cannot benefit from full internet access with o2.
ye but is'nt there a way of changing the setting or something i heard you can do that to make it go on the internet
well can you plzz tell me so i can decide whether to get one
I have a PAYG vodafone in my xda2. Ive only just got the phone and still havent worked out how to get internet access on it. I downloaded vodafone's 'connect me' software and that buggered my actviesync connection so i had to uninstall it....
I would like to say that yes this is very possible.
I had my old XDA I and XDA II on pay and go with O2 I had full internet and full GPRS though it took alot of time to get the settings but I managed it. the only annoying this is when you send a text it tells you your credit about 5 times. I have now got the XDA IIi and the sim also works with this.
conclusion is that yes it can be done and its not hard either. just change the ISP and work connection
cheers can to share the setting for the xda 2 if you know them as if i get one i might need them trying to get my parents to pay half for my birthday present lol
I paid USD $600 for O2 XDA II 2 months ago.
But it's worth.
I'm using it in programming Pocketpc application, capture Discovery from my PC then copy it to my SD 512 MB and view in PocketPC when go to sleep, listen MP3s, use softwares...
It's a nice XDA man !

There used to be a way, by changing the Proxy settings, but this does not work for newer SIM's.
O2 PAYG SIM's less than 18 months old (I think) can only access WAP via GPRS.
Cost: Expect to pay £200-£250 for a good condition XDA II on Ebay (just got £235 for mine, but some have gone for as little as £180)
well my sim card is from a samsung v200 which was brought new about november 2003 which has gprs on it, but now am not sure although i suppose if it does not work i should be able to pick on up easily from a store somewhere
Anyone have the Voda settings for GPRS/MMS? I'm on O2 and the reception around here is hit and miss, but Voda is always spot-on. I've a PAYG card that's data-enabled, I just need the settings for the XDAII.

Yes, you can , but you need had unlock O2 Exec , I used Cingular in my Exec work fine.
I got the same problem with you, I cant get it work with Cingular service and I cant get any solutions from searching net. I have tried to talk with them, go to their stores and do whatever I can. The result still the same, it really make me headache....I have already paid for 2 months fee in "NO SERVICE" condition and they cannot do anything!
O2 XDA Exec issue with cingular ....
O2 XDA Execs come unlocked from O2. When i received mine when it came first out in early october 2005, i just plugged in my Cingular SIM and there wasn't any problems. Though note that the SIM location is a little iffy at times, you shouldn't have a lot of problems.
You would also need to configure the GPRS settings on the Exec.
BTW, noticing you're from MO, which phone were you using prior to the Exec? it might give me more of an idea of your situation ...I've been using GSM phone for a while and i know that Cingular didn't have a full GSM network until a couple of months ago ... and if you came from AT&T then that's another ballgame as well ... AT&T used a mix of different standards as well ...
C
I was using MDA II before EXEC. Start from May, I can't get the signal anymore, at first I thought it was my MDA problem, so I changed it to EXEC. But, who knows? The same problem still there. Cingular just blame O2 that the EXEC has problem, and they do nothing.
Are you using EXEC now? How to change the GPRS setting?
In addition, I was Cingular customer about 1.5 year already. This problem happen since May. I really have no idea how to solve it.

"3" network on o2 branded Universal

I have an o2 branded (hardware and software) XDA Exec (it's unlocked). My current contract is coming to an end, so I am looking for a new contract. I am thinking about buying a contract with 3. However, I would like to keep my current phone even if the new contract includes a phone. My question is: can I put the sim in my XDA Exec? What functionality would I be able to expect? Would I be able to make phone calls, send and recieve text messages, make video calls, send and recieve picture messages etc.?
Yep, works fine, i've used my 3 sim before! Just need to add the correct connection details for the 3 portal etc.
though the three network will work . i will not recommend it because three network states do not use anyother phone with there sim cards.
Also my nokia 6230i and nokia 3220 both were working with three but they blocked them after two weeks.
so think before you use it;...
3 now have the Qtek version of Exec on their network so theres no reason why you cant use your exec now. I've never had a problem with another 3G phone on the network. The only problem that sometimes seems to occur is when the 3G SIM is put in a non 3G phone - itworks for a while then after draining too much power (as 3G SIM is higher rating than GPRS SIM) it kills the phone.... Why not just pop into a 3 shop though or call customer services?
i'm trying to dig out connection details to three. Could anybody shed some light? I've x-series addon and it would be nice if i can get it on my universal
thanks, sorted out! excellent one, i'm able to use msn messenger & web browsing. now it's time to check skype
Edit:SKYPE also works perfectly.

Well I have just been speaking to 3 and they will NOT support any non 3 handset nor will they give out sms, mms, or internet settings, morever if they discover that you are using a NON 3 handset then they will suspend service immediately... their customer service is absolute crap... major row on phone vowing never to return or continue to spend in excess of 100 GBp each month as pay as you go customer

Hi, Can u share your 3 settings for GPRS , MMs and web browsing, please . I am on 3 and have not been able to get the gprs working , nor the MMS. Thus can't get on to the net or msn etc on my O2 XDA Exec. Just for the info I have been using 3Sim on this for the past 7 months no problems with the phone functionality.
Thanx in advance
Tunndoc
Can anybody help with this query? I'd be interested to know too.
Thanks
you might find http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-266774.html useful it shows the settings.
I am on 3 with a XDA Exec and I can get almost all functionality aside from buying stuff from 3 online as it doesn't have the correct root certificates from 3 (and 3 never had the exec as a phone anyways!)
For the CORRECT settings to get you running on 3 click here
