I wouldn't bother trying.
If the original level of support for the XDA is anything to go by (two - very delayed - rom updates, and one ringtone pack in the entire product lifecycle), you're far far better off here on XDA Developers.
O2's content from its dreadful O2Active is about 16 static pages, which haven't been updated since the product launch. Why do they try and gear up a product for content delivery, if they're not allocating any resources to content?

O2 Asia will not be deploying the Pocket PC 2003 upgrade. The Pocket PC 2003 upgrade is subject to the original design of the hardware and the level of integration of the device, particularly between the phone and pda functions. The O2 xda was not designed to support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and therefore could not take advantage of some of the most important feature upgrades inherent in Pocket PC 2003. After careful evaluation of the costs and benefits and the relatively low impact on the user experience of the current xda version, we have decided not to deploy this upgrade. We are however pleased to announce that we will be introducing significant new features with another upgrade which will include the wireless modem, SIM Toolkit support and the SMS caller ID fix.

the part about Bluetooth and WiFi is bull****, look at the low-end ipaqs...
They don't wanna tell us, that all WM2003 devices will need to have WiFi and Bluetooth, do they?
If "The Pocket PC 2003 upgrade is subject to the original design of the hardware" how come I and many others are happly running it on our little old xda's :!: Hmmm, maybe they are trying to say it will only be available on xda 2, it would be cheaper for them in the long run.

I got the problem after i upgrade PPC 2003, may be my mistake I erase the bootloader. This week i went to KL and I go to XDA helpdesk in Malaysia but i get disapointed with them... they didnt do anything with my Device they can't install the bootloader software. and about this news it's sucks :twisted: i feel like change to another device because the donn't have good support after sales service.

I may be missing something here - but basically are they saying they are going to provide a small 2002 update, almost a year late, that will provide functions that should have been in the orignal ROM. Functions that many people have already installed because of the generosity and skills of the many enthusiasts here that write killer free aps!!

Infact only more than 4 months new XDA should be introduced in the market
No time for old XDA- more than enough- 64 000 devices saled in total from May 2002
That why do not wait something special in the next upgrade maybe the Special Developers- ROM 1.2 the best one
This is trading plan, new products- new price-new features -hopefully future- more customers -more profit

Its not that, because the latest software upgrade to 3.17 and rsu to 4.21 is in fact meant for the UK model. What they're saying is that they'll be releasing the Asian model's upgrades soon. With Asian Carriers Auto-config. Thats my take on it. In the mean time, I did my upgrade last night to WM2003, pretty happy except for a few minor details...

I have an XDA for over a year and am very happy and impressed with it.
I am looking forward to the new XDA II and am almost certainly going to get one. Before I fork out for one I have considered buying a Sony Ericsson P800 which has similar functionality.
I know the XDA II runs on WMPPC 2003 and the P800 runs on the symbian platform, but this doesnt mean a lot to me.
Could anyone suggest in suer terms the differences and dis / advantages of one device over the other.

For my 2 cents worth.........the XDA is compatable with a plethora of software across the spectrum, games, comms, databases, etc etc, the amount of freeware for the ppc platform is staggering. If you use your machine for the inbuilt functionality then it makes no difference, but I use mine for allsorts, including GPS navigation, it cost a very small amount to add the hardware and the software is freely available or very cheap. Also with the launch of the XDA2 it usually follows that the XDA1 will come down in price. I just bought a new XDA, boxed immaculate for £150, now that is value. You may have noticed, I admire this little machine greatly, I also admire the people that are able to add usability and value to it by sheer determination coupled with amazing technical know how. If the manufacturer of the XDA teamed up with the XDA developers we would see something special.
One of my friends bought a P800 and had loads of probs with it. They replaced the unit a couple of times and then he sent it back and replaced it with an IPAQ and a bluetooth phone combi.
I have both the XDA and the p800. Let me start by saying that the XDA wins without a doubt.
If you are looking for a phone with some PDA functions, then go for the p800. If you use your pda alot, the XDA is for you.
I found the p800 to be too slow as a PDA. Using downloaded apps are problematic, and of course, the amount of software available is limited when compared to pocketpc.

I worte to him 2 weeks ago and this is the letter I got back pertaining to the crappy customer service and hopeless ROM updates that tend solve some problems only to create more.

Certain areas of our products do develop over time and we feel it important that new features an improvements are given to our customers as soon as they are available. Windows Media 10 became available firstly on the i-mate JAM, and we are now rolling this functionality onto our other device platforms. Similarly with video MMS capability on the JAM, improvements in camera software and post processing. New Bluetooth devices continue to enter into the market and occasionally we need to provide patches to ensure correct operation with our devices. We also receive service releases from Microsoft which we endeavour to release to our customers. We do try to stagger releases so that customers are not overloaded with patches and updates. Some critical updates we do release as patches, but we prefer to roll them up into single updates. We do perform stringent quality assurance on new builds to ensure we don't introduce new issues. This is far from our intention.

Shouldn't you address HTC? I don't think that I-Mate (or other third brands) have anything to do with the software implementation.
Besides that, I don't know why everyone wants Mobile 5. What do you know exactly about it that is so interesting for the Magician?

I would think htc will only do it if imate, qtek, o2, orange, t-mob etc. etc. pay them to develop and 2k5 rom for upgrade.
Why would we want it? Well persistant memory alone would be enougth for me. Seriously, we will all be looking back in a few years and saying "remember when we had PPC's and the battery run out and wiped the memory. What the f*** was that all about??!"

Interesting ... Got my entertainment bundle without issues on PC World purchased Tab (on day of release). Got games ok ... applied movie voucher ... ordered my 16 movies ... nightmare getting onto tab (site really flaky and DRM on various films failed) and awful download experience ... 12 out of 16 failed to complete the download on more than one occasion.
When I called Samsung Apps CS .. they committed to resolving above issues and also trying to get me PC DVD copy which was promised when voucher applied. They said they had not decided whether they should be giving two copies of each film with this promotion but I explained for those that have already been told at time of voucher application, they really have no choice. Let's see what happens. Curious to know what other people's experience has been like.
Anyway ... the real puzzle was ... I asked about 2.3 and 2.4 updates.
They know nothing about the latter, but I was told 2.3 was already out in the US (Grrr) and although there was no date I could be given, we should expect it soon in the UK.
Anyone from US played with it yet ?

When I redeemed my voucher, all the movies I've bought so far have given me two links - one for the PC and one for mobile.
As to 2.3 for the Tab - as far as I'm aware it's not available anywhere, so I think you've been misinformed.

Acer Launches Alive: “App Store” With Free And Paid Content

Well it appears that Acer is very busy these days. Just after announcing the launch of a monitor and a laptop they are preparing to give to the consumers something that can be assimilated to an “app store”.
And only assimilated because they say it’s more than that: “alive is much more than a traditional content store, as a large breadth of free and paid content is presented to users via real-time feeds directly managed by content providers.”
The content will be provided by Acer partners like: Intel, Adobe and many more. The material can be visualized with the use of Twitter. The sections of the “app store” are: Listen, Watch, Read, Play and Application and will store content that will be both free and pay.
It will be launched next month in UK and Italy and for the rest of the world sometime in the 1st quarter of 2011. Will understand better on what this is more exactly in a couple of weeks when the launch will be made.
This was also coming to Android tablet as well.
Anyone know?
Well, since that Acer has had a bit of a shake up - out with the old and in with the Wang. Who knows if Acer Alive is still in the books.
