If I buy a bluetooth USB adapter for my PC, can I then share and transfer files between my XDA2 and my PC? If so, are there any particular specs I should look for in an adapter? Also, would this then be able to allow my XDA2 to use my PC's internet connection (ADSL)?
Lee.
yes using activesync just like when you connect using the cattle / usb
if the bluetooth usb follow the std of bluetooth then it should act the same no matter which adaptor you get

Hi,
The only setting you need to do is on PC ActiveSync. Go to Options > Rules > Pass Through (at the bottom of the page) and choose The Internet.
That's it. Once your PC is connected to the Internet, you XDA with Bluetooth ActiveSync can also enjoy the Pass Through Internet.
Cheers
joparp i did the same thing and it is not working!!!
Hi i have an XDA 2 and a MSI bluetooth USB adapter (the range of the adapter doesn't matter as far as i can tell because its the XDA 2's 10m range thats the limit). The XDA 2 connects through to the PC using active sync. Active sync doesn't have bluetooth support but this is ok because it can connect to serial (com ports). PC Bluetooth can create virtual com ports to connect to so just make sure that your PC active sync is set to your virtual com port. Then all you have to do is click on tools (in active sync on XDA 2) and select connect via bluetooth. Works great! free FAST internet when in range of the pc (10m open air) and if i can get it working with bluetooth, accessing the lan using Pocket Lan (if anyone knows how i'd love to know! ). hmmmm access to mp3's on pc network

Yes it is possbile. You need to connect via bluetooth activesync. It might depend on what bluetooth your laptop uses. Mine is Belkin and that works great.

any special setup
Hi i am connected via bluetooth activesync but still can't access the ADSL Internet that my PC is using. do i need to make any changes any where.
thanks
can u be kind enough to let me know the procedures for using bluetooth and activesync...i have tried but failed.
thanx
it took me a whole day work to get it work and at the end i discover 2 things.
1. We have to read manuals carefull and follow instalation instructions for bluetooth software and driver .
2. to activate activeSync simply go to you XDA II and select ActiveSync from start --> activeSync and then go to tools and select connect via Bluetooth.
thats it, now how can i make it access internet using ActiveSync , i have no IDEA
check if there is a V before PASS-TROUGH ( in activesync )
Hi what do you mean by a V before PASS-TROUGH!! , i have selected in RULES to use internet and i checked "open active synch when my mobile connect"
I want to be able to go on the net on my XDA via bluetooth using my current internet connection on my laptop.
My laptop and main PC are connected to a router, is there anyway to extend this shared connection to my XDA so I can go online on it without using my GRPS.
Any help appreciated.
Simon
activesync -> options -> rules -> pass through - internet.
if u can use pocket IE with the XDAii GRPS off, in the USB cradle,
after the above setup, then it should work when u go thru BT as well.
I sorted it in the end.
Uninstall Bluetooth Dongle
Reinstall Bluetooth Dongle
Hard Reset XDA
Works a treat now and good range too, well over 20m......so far!
Please excuse my ignorance on all this but i'm a new user. I am trying to get activesync working over bluetooth. My bluetooth on pc does not have activesync profile or service. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Or can someone just provide a link where I can find out how this works? Thanks
Ok I found the instructions on myxda2 web site.
But looks like I'll have to esablish a cable usb connection before i can configure the activesync for bluetooth.
If the Bluetooth on your PC does not have the ActiveSync profile, then use the Serial Port profile and set up ActiveSync to allow connection from the serial port created by the Bluetooth driver. Then pair your XDA II's Bluetooth with your PC's Bluetooth. After that, launch ActiveSync on your XDA II and select "Tools->Connect via Bluetooth..." on the menu. Your XDA II should then sync with your desktop PC.
go to this site download the BTtools, it will fix bt problem
http://bluetooth.i-networx.de
I'm able to sync via Bluetooth. But I have to initiate the connection from my XDA II. Start ActiveSync in XDA II, click "Tools", select "Connect via Bluetooth". Is there a way to initiate the connection from PC ActiveSync?
BT ActiveSync
I don't personally think there is a way to do this unless you take remote control of your pocketpc from the pc. What I have also found is that the Bluetooth is very shaky when anything other than small data transfers are concerned e.g. if you try to surf to a web page with loads of images or you have quite a few pages in AvantGo, the BT connection will be dropped. It is far from ideal...
I have had zero success in synching by bluetooth, all I can do is beam files to the pc via bluetooth, I also cannot browse my xda2 from the bluetooth desktop.

You need to create a virtual serial port using the Bluetooth software on your desktop PC. Then set the Connection Settings on ActiveSync to allow connection from the serial port you just created. If your Bluetooth software has an ActiveSync profile, it will do all this for you automatically. Otherwise, you need to use the Serial Port profile.
You can browse your XDA II through ActiveSync. Just select the Explore command.
how to control the assigned com port
the bluetooth software on the desktop insists on setting the com ports as com10 or higher...I read somewhere that activesync does not recognize com port higher than 9.
I re-installed the drivers several times....and it only allows for com 10...and of course activesync does not recognize that as an available port to connect to!!
any thoughts??
setup:
Widcom 1.4.2 bluetooth driver on win XP Pro
Epox USB dongle
Activesync 3.7.1
I am using the same software but it always offers com3 or com4 which works fine, if you right click on the bluetooth desktop serial port profile does it not give you an choice under "properties"? I have worked out how to do most things now but I am struggling with my laptop with bt dongle trying to browse the web through sharing, I know the settings are correct but it just wont let me through, I have a full network access running and can access files etc but no internet on laptop. :?

Go to ActiveSync Connection manager. Lowest option is something like "Allow ethernet and RAS connection with this desktop". Put a check into the checkbox and you should be set.

Yes. You can either get a wireless lan SD-Card for your mini and hook into your WLAN if you have one or you get a Bluetooth dongle for your machine you are running ActiveSync on. Then setup ActiveSync and your mini to use Bluetooth as syncing connection and all will be working fine.
that there dongle..
mate thanks for your response, i have the blue tooth dongle and although it does let me conenct to my PC - it wont to the internet via my adsl until i hook up the usb cable. is there a specific bluetooth or internet setting?
regards
juan

what happens is that if i try to connect them with active sync and no usb cable (but the blue tooth dongle in my pc) it just searches comports and usb...and i get now where.

ActiveSync has no bluetooth out of the box. You have to use your Bluetooth driver software to map a virtual serial port to the bluetooth device. When this option is enabled you have to do the pairing of magician and PC again, and you need to setup the magician to use the virtual serial port as well. When both devices are set up correctly the magician talking bluetooth will appear to the PC as a device on some virtual COM port such as COM 5 or whatever. Then you can setup ActiveSync to use COM5 for serial connection (although it is bluetooth) and all is fine.
How to exactly set up the virtual com on your PC differs from BT driver to BT driver. Maybe someone can give exact step-by-step directions, it was a long fiddle for me as well...
