XDA II SMS Problems - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Has anyone else expereinced this when sending a SMS - its a bit buggy. When you start typing the name of the contact using the keyboard it will give you the option to select the user and inserts it fine.
However, when you type more then one user it does not give you the selection option. Meaning sending the same SMS to more then one person is a problem as it does not give you the name suggestions after the first one.
Not only that but even for the first name - it does not replace the letters you typed in the TO field - rather it inserts the name after your letters.
Anyone else experience this problem?

Select multiple contacts

This is driving me up the wall - I got my O2 XDA Mini S yesterday, and I love it, bar 1 (major) fault - I can't (easily) send an SMS to multiple contacts.
Every day I send out 10 texts (sometimes more) to different people (to see who can play football that night). It's not always the same 10, so I can't just set up a Dist List or Group.
At the minute I have to click where it says To:, choose a contact, click where it says To:, choose another contact, etc, etc.
How on Earth can I just click To:, select as many contacts as I need, then send?
I realise after searching these forums that I don't think it can be done with the standard software, but is there any 3rd party software that will let me do this? (I'm only bothered about SMS, not e-mail, if that matters)
Thank you so much!
FlexMail 2007 seems to do what I need.
hey mate, on my mda vario when I start a new sms the cursor is in the 'To' field.
All I do is start typing the name of who I want to send to and the vario brings up a list of possibilites, like it does when it's guessing what words you're typing during a text. Once I pick a name the cursor then moves across so I can type in another name and so on and so on.
does your Mini S not do this?
I just noticed today that it does!!!
It's a shame really that people say "It doesn't do <insert action here>" but actually it does...
It's not their fault they havn't noticed it, it's that it's so well hidden, you don't see it...
i send similar SMS's to a group of friends. what i did was create a new "Contact" for each person and i put a prefix before each name (ie) 1carlos....etc 2mark.....etc this way they are the very first contacts on the list so when i hit the "To" button all the names are right in order at the top of the list
hope this helps
Same here. I send a list of emails or SMS messages to a group of friends. I never found a way to create a distribution list like you can do on the desktop version of Outlook.
I created a notepad file with all the groups. I cut and paste them in the To: box to send to those groups.

I also tried doing this, but I also discovered not all the addresse received the message at the end...
It seems there is a limit on the number of characters the "To:" field accepts...
And also, if it is faster to send a pigeon, why do I need a PocketPC ???

Why wont anyone answer this question??? SMS Problem!

Ive seen this question asked several times during my search for the answer, but no one ever replies to it....
Since the upgrade WM6, the Reciepients name in the "to:" field within any new message will not auto complete...
I always have to fill in the number, or their name and select 'Check Names' in the menu and then choose my selection.
PLEASE will SOMEONE tell me the reg entry i need to alter, or the cab i need to (re)install to fix this chink in my BA's armour....
Many thanks in advance.

No one has answered this question cause probably no one has faced this problem after upgrading to WM6. I just now checked by creating new Text Message and when I hit at "To:", it opens up my contact list and I can pickup any number.
I know others have faced this problem 'cos several other people are asking for soloutions to the exact same issue, they just never recieved replies...
Also, yes mine works when i click the 'to:' button aswell, but it should predict the recipients name as you type it.
there are users on several platforms, not just BA, running WM6 roms with this exact same issue...
C'mon guys, PLEASE HELP!
Dickie
May be I dont understand your question!!
When I type "a" in the space, list of all names starting with 'a' opens up and gets shorter and shorter as I type more letters. What else do you expect it to do?

This is EXACTLY whats not working! this 'auto complete' function has stopped since the WM6 upgrade...
hey, i got the same issue also..
when i typed "A" in the recipient it dont auto complete with "a" contacts.
my solution is :-> type "a+space" then delete the space, the auto complete will come out with the "a" contact listings. hope it helps.. =D
I have always found it faster just to click on the to button and let that do the auto complete. I seem to always select the wrong contact with the auto complete in the actual message.
do you have other then English language support on your device?
I have Hebrew support, I have to type the first two letters and delete the last one -> then it source according to the first letter
SMS works fine for me but MMS doesn't do the predictive contact call up and it is a pain in the arse.
Not a big problem but a pain in the arse nonetheless.
did you install "htc dual keyboard + keypad". I installed this app, and the predictive contact search stop working on sms. After uninstallation, its working again.
as with mms, i dont think it has ever worked since 2003SE. you have to click "to:" and search within the contact list.
the answer to your proplem is :
this is because the contact are not stored in your PIM database, but on the SIM card, that is why they are not predicable but they can be accessed by pressing on the "to" button.
solution: use sim manager to save contacts to the phonebook
hope u find it helpful
that is what i was gonna say "life owner" you are correct according to the problem i had

i will NOT do that if i were you...
that would only make the predictive list double the names you have...
(Or you could delete the contacts in your simcard after you copied)
if you played with the options
in the Settings->Input->Word Completion.
i would suggest a hard reset
if you did the above and no changes was reflected.

thank god, someone agreeing this issues does exist and its not something i'm doing...
Although, typing a space after the first character, then deleting it does not bring up the auto complete.
But.. i did install "htc dual keyboard + keypad", which i will remove now to see if functionality returns..
Also.. my contacts are stored on the Phone, not the sim.
Cheers for your suggestions guys, i'll keep u updated...
Dickie
UPDATE - Removed "htc dual keyboard + keypad" and functionality is restored.... what exactly does this program do? if its supposed to skin the touch screen keyboard, it never worked for me anyway...
Cheers Guys!

"htc dual keyboard + keypad" give you big numbers and letters button (the idea is to allow you not to use stylus and use your thumb to type) AND it also give predictive english words feature.. and i guess it cannot co exist with the predictive contact feature of sms... i guess this is the most logical explanation... for me anyway
actually it's not an issue regarding auto-complete...
htc dual keyboard+keypad is filtering your input and displays it's own "one-liner" prediction and thus the default system Auto Word Completion doesnt kick in.
and it doesnt matter to the default auto-complete if it's in the phone or in the sim card... if you have two copies of one item... it will list double.
it's not an SMS problem... it's a program glitch(feature?). haha...
Hi I have the same problem.
i removed htc dual keyboard and its still not working!
do i need to enable some options some wherE?
Thanks
try to do what silver samurai suggested, the setting may have been changed:
start > settings > personal > input > word completion > place a tick mark on "suggest words when entering text"
I tried that and it didn't work.
Thanks

Touch-it 4.4

I have tried to search with no luck. My question is when i installed touchit 4.4 i do not have any of the pop up menu's IE when making a text and i start typing the persons name or a word it never pops up suggestions. With over 200 contacts i would like to have the short option to type in 3 letters or so and select the contact from the actual Sms screen. Another thing is when i goto create new (msg) i dont get the option to do MMS or SMS. Lastly off the top of my head when i am typing words i like the option with suggestions again. Can anybody either point me to the proper settings or registry keys to re-enable these features. Also i noticed when i put touch it on my phone all of my contacts are doubled now ? how can i fix this without manually deleting them all

1. I havent seached for a fix as far as typing input for SMS recipients, I have just gotten use to clicking menu and adding someone from my contacts instead of typing there name.
2. If you put messaging on your today screen, click on the no unread messages bar and it will take you to the messaging center to pick MMS,SMS, email account.
3. I did think the wings OEM text suggestion program was great, Ive gotten use to not using it with 4.4. Tho if you use the virtual keyboard the program is still enabled.
I dont know if any of this will be a fix for you, it is alil info. There might be things you have to get use to not having with Touch, but be glad you have more than 14mb of memory.
Also, for the duplicate contacts, I would just make sure all your numbers are embedded on your sim card, then select all from your contacts and delete them. Open SIM manager from programs, select all from menu and save all to contacts.
Yes true maybe someone can find the registry keys to enable it, Speaking of registry besides the lame attempt at wiki of a good solid registry hack, tweak mod guide does anybody have a better site while i was Out of town visiting over xmas i stumbled accross a site that offered so many registry hacks but i didnt book mark it
Also a few more questions i get really mad that the Wing does not allow lets say .mid .gif etc files in MMS's is there a way to disable automatic file deletion in mms? sorry if this doesnt make much sense just worked 14 hrs.
you can just write your contact's name (or part of their name) and then go to "menu" and click on "check names".
This should be easier than going through your contacts.

typing a name and then going thru menu is more steps than just clicking add recipent and clicking the contact you want.
I dont know any other registry sites.

sms Issue

When sending an sms I no longer get the contacts name appear as I type it into the To field. I have to go into contacts, press the persons name, then press send sms.
Anyone know what I have done and how I can rectify it please?
I have noticed that I have to now enter the 1st 3 characters before a name suggestion appears. Before it was only 1 character. It also brings the same name up twice, when it was only once before...

Same problem here, I don't know why it disappeared out of the sudden.
EDIT: I played a little bit around and I figured out that you have to type a blank after the name (even if the name is not completed), then you get some proposals at the bottom line. But that's a different user interface, I wonder where the old one is gone?

It works if you type the 1st 3 characters and name suggestions appear. I'm sure name suggestions use to apear when only entering the 1st character before...
In my case even if the first 3 characters are entered no more suggestions will pop up. Maybe the behavior changes depending on the amount of contact stored. I don't know how many contacts I have but I guess it's something between 100 and 200.

I have around 150 contacts and it worked OK before, but have no idea why it has changed now...
I have sorted this now. What I had done is changed the settings in the word completion from 1 letter to 3...

Name completion sms/email

Hello,
I have the Touch HD for a while and I am very happy. Standard, in email/sms mode in the 'To' field, when I started typing a name, the HD automatically provided me with the names from my contacts, so I could press the name I wanted.
Recently I flashed Dutty Rom 1.7 and now this function is not working anymore. I cannot find if I have to turn on this as a specific funtion. At this moment, when typing in the 'To' field, it just uses the word completion, from the T9, not from my contact list.
Can anybody help me out here ?
