Voice Command - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Has anybody bought Microsoft Voice Command yet? Does it really work?

Hi xda-rocks !
I have Microsoft Voice Command and it's really work fine.
But my english is bad.
Sebi

Where did you buy it from?

voice command
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/voicecommand/default.mspx
how scary is that... "microsoft" and "version 1.0" in the same line of text.

Tried to purchase it at Handango and just kept getting:
An error occurred: FSS3: 'There was a problem processing your order. Please contact our support staff to complete your order.'.
Can you buy it anywhere else?

I tried at Handango as well with the same problem. Found out at Microsoft it is only available in US and Canada.

Does Voice Command work through a Bluetooth headset?
It must work through the regular wired headset, right?

question
does VC reads your emails ?
This is a feature I like at Fonix Voice Commander.
Thanks,
Decebal

Have to put in my two pennies worth here - the MS Voice Command app is an amazing bit of software. After trying the Fonix product trial for 10 minutes I got so fed up I uninstalled it - the damn thing just wouldn't recognise my voice.
I then installed the beta MS version; let me tell you that this product is incredible. I'm not always a fan of MS and their initial product releases, but straight after installing it I was chatting away to my phone feeling like a madman. The accuracy of the recognition is excellent. Here is a summary of the commands available in the beta 2 version:

I tried twice on two different sites to buy this software but it come up with message that it is only sold in America. That sucks.

Cant buy? But still want ? contact XDA-Developers . True!

is this product available to try before you buy?

No - You have to buy it to try it. But if you're outside USA/Canada you can't buy it.

that a bug on the commerce site, or they intending not to sell it outside the us?

I have the product, i tested it, it works fine (let's say great) with all english words, but my problem is that i don't live in US nor in UK and 98% of my phonebook are not english names/families so the recognition of my phone book is POOR
Regards,

I can send it to you for trying
email me and I'll try to send it to you for testing purposes.

My 2 cents on Microsoft Voice Command
I purchased the software through Handango.
The software is really nice and great voice recognition, although I wish there were a couple more features to it. You also have to dedicate a button to it. By default, it overwrites the calendar button.
If you want to use it for voice dialing, it works great. As far as starting applications for you, I have not found much use for that. The "What's next on my calendar" is useful only if you have another application open that you don't want to close, otherwise you could read it right off the screen.
You can use a headset with the voice rec software, unlike some cellular phones I have had in the past. It would be nice if the "answer" button on the in-the-box headset could activate the voice rec, but I'll save that for another day.
I would like to see more features in the next release, possibly like creating an appointment or task by voice or a voice rec notepad feature.
It's a little heavy on the resources, but it's worth it.
Just my 2 cents....

Voice dial using a Jabra headset
If I was to buy an XDA II, and MS voice comander, could I use a Jabra BT 200 bluetooth headset to voice dial - i.e. press the 'activate' key on the headset, and speak a comand?
This thread has most of the answers, has anyone tried it?
Hope you can help, all the best
James

No, Voice Command through the bluetooth headset does not work. You have to press the hardware button on the XDA 2 to activate voice command.
It does work throught the wired headset though.

Thanks Adamz.
Is the BT200 'activate' button supported by any XDA applications, or is there a limitation in the implimentation of the bluetooth interface as interprited by the XDS?

Voice dialling

Is it possible to use voice dialing? It would help with this problem of having to open the case to use the phone if I could set it to use voice commands. I see someone has referred to voice commands on the xda 1, but I can't find it in the help file, even though this is quite a standard facility on ordinary mobile phones.
Cathy
Here it is for you:
http://microsoft.handango.com/Platf...30&productType=2&platformId=2&productId=90635
I am using it, and I love it.
but it cost money
there are a great many features that normal cellphones support that xda's dont
i suppose this is because as i see it the xda is a pda with cellphone not a cellphone with pda
not sure of smartphones are closer to cellphones optionwise but would suspect that they are
you are correct - it is a PDA with cell phone functionality... but it is worth it...
In regards to the MS Voice Dialing - one of the pluses - you do not have to do "tagging" - it will recognize the name from the Contacts... another very good feature - you can actually dial the number (like DIAL 5551212) and it will dial for you.
.... not if you are in UK (Amazingly) Windows 2003 does not support telephone numbers beginning with 0. Wouldn't you have thought that Bill would have at least spared a thought for us 52million citizens?

Can you explain further what you mean by this.
Quote from Microsoft Voice Command User's Guide
"International dialing formats (or dialiing any number starting with a 0 (zero)) are not supported; to dial an unsupported number format, you can create a contact with the number and then call that contact)"
Also voice command seems only to accept 7 digit or 10 digit numbers. They say that it will accept a 1+10-digit number, but what I think they mean by this is the numeral 1 at the begining. So most UK mobile (actually you have to say 'moble' for the lady to recognise it) numbers are too long as are all the landline numbers.

I've just installed FONIX VOICE DIAL into the XDA II and it works flawlessly!
It doesn't tell you what meetings you have next or launch applications (ala MS Voice Command) but I don't need all that. All I wanted was a voice dialer for when I'm driving and this software does it perfectly.
Voice Dialing can be done either by referencing your contact list "Call Adam Smith mobile" or you can use "Dial 001160343437656". No training is required but you can fine tune the voice recognition (haven't tried this yet).
Highly recommended.

Have you tried neuvoice navigator.
Supposed to work well in noisy environments, but does require voice tag setup.

only $9.99
Fonix flop
Bought and installed Fonix and dumped off MS Voice Commander, but Fonix is MUCH worse. I ended up shouting at the nice man inside my XDA2

Why use MS Vocie command?

Just wondered why so many posts on here for problems with MS Voice command.
What does Voice command offer that the built in Voice recog software doesn't?
It can reliably call any contact via any bluetooth headset I've tried ad will also open any application?
You can dial via contact name, or dial a # "Call 5-5-5-6-6-6-7" it can announce appointments etc. It is more versatile than the OEM however I do have problems with VC recognition and do not use it, for me the OEM (even limited) is more reliable.
Ah Numeric dialling; that may be why then. Last time i used it on my blue angel a year or so ago it didn't recognise UK dialling codes.
Anyone know if this is still the case?
well, suppose you have 300 contacts. with the built in voice dial program, you have to record a tag for each contact, which is a hassle. ms voice command on the other hand doesn't require training. you just install and say: call <name>
that's the main advantage of ms voice command in my opinion.
I haven't used it since WM2003, but on there it was like the friend I never had. You can say things like "What are my appointments today", "Play jazz music" etc. Quite versatile. Quite resource heavy though.

Is there a way to make voice dial not repeat what I say?

When I want to use voice dial I say the name of the person I want it to dial, then it repeats what I've said back at me. I find that really annoying for some reason. Is there a way to make it just dial without repeating what I've said first?
if ur using voice command u can uncheck the 'confirm' option but u may call the wrong person sometimes if u dont pronouce it clearly
where is the "confirm" option, I can't find it anywhere...

There seems to be much confusion regarding Voice Dialing software. There are three versions:
CVD - Cyberon Voice Dial (comes installed on Cingular 8125 and some other WM5 Phones)
CVC - Cyberon Voice Commander (the Retail Version and big brother to CVD)
MSVC - Microsoft Voice Command
The low down on these (this is my opinion based on using all three)
CVD isn't worth what they charge for it (yes I know it's free)...
1. You have to specifically record voice tags for each contact.
2. It only does dialing, no PDA functionas included.
CVC is cheap at on $15.00 and has a couple of functions that are nice like reading SMS messages to you and OEM integration with your bluetooth headset but I don't like it because...
1. The initial delay and waiting for the voice to prompt you is just too long.
2. Voice recgonition is spotty.
MSVC is the luxury version of these programs. With a little hacking you can get it to play with your bluetooth headset (mostly). It is fairly quick to be ready for your voice command (just wait for the beep). Finally it has the best voice recgonition of the three. The downside of MSVC...
1. It costs $40.00 but I've been using it for almost a year (bought it from Handango when they e-mailed me a 20% off coupon) and it's worth every penny.

Voice Dial Question

Hi,
I finally got my Universal! (Hurray!!!)
First thing I did was to upgrade it to Jwrightmcps' WM6. So far all is OK.
Now I have a (stupid) question: how do I use Voice Dial with my Parrot carkit?
My carkit was working fine with my Qtek 9090. With this phone I had to create voice tag's on the carkit.
Now with the Universal, the carkit will recognize that it is a phone capable of voice dialing an will simply pass that task to the phone.
Because I don't have a manual, I don't know which commands are accepted. Also, I live in Portugal and though I do speak English, it seems that the phone does not recognize what I say to it well enough...
My questions:
- which keywords/commands are accepted
- is there a way of training the voice recognition
- how to I make a call to a Speed-Dial contact by voice
- is it possible to install a different language pack for voice recognition
- is it possible to uninstall voice recognition, so that my Parrot carkit uses it's own voice recognition instead
Thanks,
vma
universal manual
Try googling "htc universal manual".
e.g. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=253190
Hi,
The link was very interesting. Thanks.
However, it did not contain answers to any of my questions...

manual
Sorry about that but you did say you were without a manual & I presumed that the manual, which was linked on that page, would answer questions 1,2 & 3 out of the 5.
As for your final 2 questions I'm sorry but I don't know the answer.
Just trying to help
Hi, no hard feelings! lol
The manual essentially explains how to dismantle the whole phone.
Perhaps I explained myself wrong: what keywords can you speak to the phone, so that it does something?
Cheers,
vma
lol
I'm probably talking about something completely different as I have prophet (what am I doing on Universal thread?)
Prophet has Cyberon Voice Speed Dial which also launches apps.
Sorry if the following is irrelevant
Using Voice Speed Dial
You can record voice tags so that you can dial a phone number or launch programs simply
by speaking a word.
Create a voice tag for a phone number
1. Tap Start > Contacts to open the Contacts list.
2. Do one of the following:
• Tap and hold the desired contact, then tap Add Voice Tag.
• Select the desired contact, then tap Menu > Add Voice Tag.
• Tap the desired contact to open the contact’s detailed screen, then tap Menu > Add
Voice Tag.
Select the desired
phone number.
Tap the Record button
to start recording.
3. Select the phone number that you want to create a voice tag, then tap the Record
button ( ).
4. When completed, a Voice Tag icon ( ) will be displayed on the right of the item.
5. When you create a voice tag for the item, you can do one of the following:
• Tap the Record button ( ) to rebuild the voice tag.
• Tap the Play button ( ) to play the voice tag.
• Tap the Delete button ( ) to delete the voice tag.
Voice tag icon
Control buttons
Tip To ensure voice recognition accuracy, please record your voice in a quiet place.
Create a voice tag for a program
1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Voice
Speed Dial.
2. The Application tab displays a list of all
installed programs on your device. The
procedure for creating a voice tag for a program
is the same as the procedure for creating a
voice tag for a phone number.
3. After you have created a voice tag for a
program, you can then launch the program by
saying the recorded voice tag after tapping
Start > Programs > Voice Speed Dial.
Using Other Applications 161
Make a call or launch programs using a voice tag
1. Tap Start > Programs > Voice Speed Dial.
2. After a “beep” sound, say the recorded voice tag that you have assigned to the phone
number you want to call or the program you want to launch. The system will repeat the
voice tag and then dial out or launch the program automatically.
Note If the system cannot recognize your voice tag, please speak clearly and reduce the surrounding
noise. Then, try again.
To view and test the voice tags you have created
1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Voice Speed Dial.
2. The Voice Tag tab displays a list that contains all the voice tags you have created.
Select an item in the list, and you can do one of the following:
• Tap the Record button ( ) to rebuild the voice tag.
• Tap the Play button ( ) to play the voice tag.
• Tap the Delete button ( ) to delete the voice tag.
I seem to have figured it out by myself:
If I say "HELP", my Universal will actually speak to me and tell me all the available options.
If I say "HELP PHONE" it will tell me that I can say "CALL contact" or "DIAL number".
It is actually amusing to be speaking with your phone for a change:
"CALL XYZ"
"do you want to call ABC?"
"NO"
"try again"
"CALL XYZ"
"XYZ has mobile and work"
"MOBILE"
"calling..."
Cool stuff! Does not work all that well, however. At least I don't have to teach voice tags again...
Cheers,
vma

Speeddial is not only missing, misimplemented?

Im not a developer, only here to point out couple of things:
1. speed dial is replaced with 'favorites' and shortcuts to direct dial? I'm running a rooted 1.6 on HTC Mytouch 3g and there is still no sign of built in speed dial in sight
2. My bluetooth headset BlueAnt has built in voice commands for speed dial "dial speeddial 1" dials voicemail no problem, appears to be hardcoded by HTC.. but saying a command 'speeddial 3' for example would dial the 3rd entry from the call log - hence goodbye the ability to dial a saved preset # without having to reach for the phone, unlocking the screen, changing the other desktop with speeddial shortcuts etc... so much for effiency
Funny thing that feature works on any other phone with built in bluetooth: nokias, blackberries etc... Hope you guys don't let Google skip adding traditional phone features:
* hope somebody adds a setting to the dialer so users can choose the dialer to popup instead of the call log when pressing a 'call' button.
Simple things make the life enjoyable
As this is a touch-screen phone... you must remember that all features that once used hard-buttons are being phased out by: voice dial, direct dial shortcuts, contact photo shortcuts, etc. You'll find that the quick-search is a one-stop access to most anything with your voice.
Why the Blue-Ant headset wouldn't access these the same way as any other bluetooth headset is beyond me.
