Which is better, XDAII or ETEN P700?
See specs on ETEN P700 : http://www.fahdtel.com/smartphone_p700.htm
and XDA II : http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/4066.html
I like the ETEN P700 which has the gsm/gprs/bluetooth/wifi whereas
xdaII has only gsm/gprs/bluetooth. Only other difference is xdaII has
a camera. value for money wise?? Correct me if I am wrong. :?
that one only has 64mb ram and 32mb rom.
it also doesnt have bluetoothe it says its optional via the cf slot same with gps but it is triband and 400mhz

I have looked at the different specs for the I-mate Jam, MDA Compact and Qtek s100 and it seems that only the Qtek s100 has mention of an optional 128 MB of RAM........for loading up all the nice extra bits of software, this would be worth getting....
See specs at www.qtek.ch
I have asked around and I cannot get confirmation that this is a real option. The I-mate and MDA sellers do not mention it.....
Can anyone confirm if 128 MB SDRAM is a real option on the Qtek S100 or just an error on the spec sheets ??????
sent mail to qtek.ch
answer :
128MB Version doesn't exist, but with the SD 1GB price...
hi all,
simple questions i know but i just wanted to make sure of a few things before i go ahead and purchase this!
is the SPV M500 basically the same as the imate jam and Qtek s100 etc??? because i hate all the orange branding crap they put on their phones so will be lookin to put the qtek or imate rom onto the phone asap! will this be possible? i also need to unlock it so i can use a dual sim adapter and use both my o2 and orange sims in it - will the unlock solution for the rest of the magician devices work for the spv m500? has anyone tried?
secondly have people used Tom Tom 5 with this phone? can you report if the devices worked well together and give a stable solution?
thanks and SORRY for the stupid questions!
Tom
svp 500 vs qtec s100
the svp 500 is similar to the qtec s100, but not the s100. The svp 500 is also known as the Qtec S110.
I might be talking under correction here, but I understand the S110 has a new ROM which is not the same as the latest S100.
I don't think there is much difference the 2 phones, other than that your memory is 128 instead of the 64 for std qtec s100s. The outside of the svp has also changed slightly, so has the colour.

This is not true! the Orange M500 is exactly the same as the MDA Compact, Qtek S100, VPA etc. The only thing that is different is the looks. The M500 is somthing less round and is in darkish gray. The Qtek S110 is a Qtek S100 with 128Mb Ram Thats it!
thanks for that rvbcrs,
I did mention the differences which were the same as yours.
For instance, you can not buy the mda compact / vpa compact / ijam or any of the other's stylusses, since they've changed the s110's stylus and it will not fit. I've also been told the the Rom is versioned otherwise, which may be so / not.
It is really the same thing, but what i tried to say is that it is definately improved (only a bit) and like the rom hacks might be different.. those type of things.. but hey, if you've got the same phone you probably know better.
thanks again for your input on this
The vpa compact/orange spv have much better sound quality than jam/mda etc! Also they are only 64mb just different housing!
The vpa compact/orange spv have much better sound quality than jam/mda etc! Also they are only 64mb just different housing!you'll be able to get rid of most of the orange "crap" once you get it.Just go to add/remover programs and remover the orange software that gets rid of the visible things + interface etc
thanks very much for the replies guys!
in general does anyone have any experience of Tom Tom navigator 5 and any of the magician devices? do they work well together? i have heard that tom tom 5 drains the full processor power for the entire time it is running which has led to critical overheating of some devices and the phone functions and for that matter any other functions cant run at the same time due to the work that tom tom 5 puts on the processor!!! is this true?!
thanks,
Tom
i'm running tt5 on my vpa.it works fine.lt does use a great deal of the cpu but you can't use other programs when the navigator is on anyway!no overheatirg problems.tt5 works better than tt3 for me when all patches are applied as l struggled to answer calls on tt3 as it ran so slow but tt5 is better!pm me for more
Looking at the MDA Compact II, the only main difference from our Magician is the processor. All other hardware is presumably the same as the Magician's (memory size is not significant).
So ..... if 3rd party software can run on any of the CPUs, why cant' WM5? Or is it that 3rd party software for the TI OMAP processor is compiled specifically for that CPU?
Just wondering :?
WM5 probably could run on Magician and potentially any device.
I'm not educated enough to answer correctly, but AFAIK anyone can build WM5 for the Magician using platform builder, but getting it work is the problem. We don't have compatible drivers etc specifically written for the device (as you can see with some of the WM5 builds for blue angel). So without proper drivers for all the hardware, it won't be "compatible" with all of the hardware.
Mamaich is the man for this question though. His Wizard ROM should open up doors I imagine.
V
I'm well aware of the drivers issue but with an MDA Compact II ROM the drivers should work just fine as it is essentially the same hardware. No?
More specifically, my question should be: is it JUST the different processor that won't allow us to use a WM5 Compact II ROM on our Magician? And if it is so, how come? (if 3rd party sofware can run on both processors with the same build?)
Actually, went down to a computer store on Friday and tested the HP IPAQ 1950. It only had 64MB ROM and 32MB RAM and 300MHz but it was very fast to operate which is surprising. Faster than an O2 mini display model.
Note that all display models only have factory settings with software that comes preinstalled. Comparing an O2 mini 64MB RAM/64 MB ROM 416MHz WM2003SE with an HP rx1950 32MB RAM/64MB ROM 300MHz WM 5.0, the rx1950 felt faster plus the HP screen was 3.5" as well.
I guess i they wanted to release an upgrade to WM 5.0 for the O2 mini/iMate JAM they could but why bother because they'll make more money selling the next model with WM 5.0
I think the O2mini noob is absolutely right. They just want to sell new Devices. Why else don't they give an Update to WM5 for XDA II / III although there are unofficial leaks?
Why they don't want to release WM5 for the Magician is pretty obvious now, look at HTC Charmer and HTC Prophet ... but the question is why can't we have a COOKED ROM from the HTC Charmer? What is the technical reason why an HTC Charmer/MDA Compact II ROM does not work on the Magician?
Well for a start the nbf for the t-mob charmer will need to a bit of chopping first to fit on a magician, since its 72mb. plenty of room on the charmers 128mb rom but not for the magician.
Hi,
1. Just received an O2 XDA II, however:
a) "XDA II" is what is printed on the phone (Silver) case but when I
turned it on "XDA IIs" is shows up during the phone start up.
For info,
O/S is WinMobile 2003 2nd Ed., Ver. 4.21.1088.
Processor is Intel PXA263
ROM Version / Date is 2.06.00WWE / 06-14-04
Radio Version: 1.18.00
So what does this make my phone, an XDA II or XDA IIs?
b) In the [Programs] menu window, there is a folder:
"Communications/WiFi Tools/WLAN Tools (Mobile Edition)"
The WLAN program is from "www.socketcom.com" - (Utility Version
2.0 and a Build Date of Jan 20, 2005)
Does this mean I can WIFi? And do I still need to get a WiFi Card or
the phone itself is already WiFi capable?
2. I also have an O2 XDA II Mini which I have been using for the past year. So far I have already sync the "Contacts" and the other files from my Mini to the XDA II.
However, is there a way to copy/sync its "Messages" folders to my O2 XDA II? I have saved a lot of important texts and made numerous subfolders, and thus really need to duplicate the existing format to my other unit. So far using Active Sync and Microsoft Outlook has not worked for me.
Appreciate any advise you can give.
Thanks, Pogi
Does it have a slide out keyboard at the bottom ?
the XDA IIs is supposed to !
Nope. The unit itself is XDA II. However, when I trun on the phone, the start up displays "XDA IIs". Plus there is a WLAN program (XDA II does not usually have this). Tx

The XDA 2i looks like and XDA 2 and has built-in WiFi. Does yours actually have WiFi, or just a program (which doesn't actually do anything)?
Mine has the WLAN program and just needs a Wi-Fi Card to run.
Thanks
Pare, what you have over there is an XDAII but with software upgraded to WM2003 Second Edition giving it the same software as the XDAIIs so the only difference that I know of between the XDAII (upgraded) and the XDAIIs is the keyboard (XDAIIs has a builtin one), WLAN (XDAIIs has it builtin) and the larger memory and faster chip on the XDAIIs.

Maraming salamat for the info. So does this mean ... all I need is to buy a Wi-Fi card? What brand to you suggest besides Sundisk?

Hello fellows !!
I post here because there's someting that seems weird for me.
A know that Qtek S200 is also sold as O2 XDA NEO. But is the O2 Atom also the same device ? If not, would the rom be compatible ? (so as to put the Atom in french or in english)
I just port this because I'm feeling like buying the HTC Prophet but I saw somewhere that the atom has an FM tuner and a 416 Mhz Proc so I would prefer this one I think, (Am I right ?)
Thanks for your help !!!!!

The O2 Atom is not an HTC Prophet device. It is manufactured by Quanta so is a totally different beast. I've been told that the FM tuner only works with the headset plugged in.
While the processor in the Atom has a "faster" clock speed, it is an Intel chip whereas the Prophet has an OMAP chip. The latter's "lower" clock speed does not mean that everything runs more slowly.
I played with an Atom a few days ago and didn't like it compared with my Magician. I'm gonna go check out the iMate JAMin (Prophet).
Hi, I have a Prophet (S200) and a friend of mine has an Atom. The Atom is indeed faster, but so far I am quite happy with the prophet's speed. On the other hand, Prophet has many buttons that make 1-handed operation easy, and has phonepad for easy texting.
FM radio on atom works only with headset plugged in since the cable acts as antenna. Don't know if you can still send it over BT (no BT headset to try, sorry).
different people differrent eyes and different mind, for me atom is better than mini, of cause have to work a bit, try this link: http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/view.php?newsid=276
Thanks for your answers, is there any french rom for the prophet ?
Up up
simple choice based more on looks, has to be XDA Neo, the Atom is pig ugly
