Update of New Rom - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

First let my say this Thanks to all the developers out there who put there time and effort into this.
My Question is I noticed my coverage is not as great as it used to be. Due to the fact, I have read that there is less battery power being used for the radio portion of the device. Is there a way or will there be a rom with 2003 that uses the more battery power or at least the old radio power. I need the mute function of the radio function due to the numerous conference calls I am always on. And do not want to revert to the old radio stack. (Before I had to switch my sim to another phone for conference calls, being I travel alot and the noise is not good for the conference calls). Thanks for all your support on this matter.

XDA2i Problems GPRS, bluetooth, TT3, echo, crashes, etc owow

1. The PDA oftens crashes having previosuly used the phone
2. The TomTom 3 crashes haven driven a short distance
3. The GPRS connection won't connect for a second time without a reset
4. You cant have bluetooth on without flightmode turned off
5. Horizontal Black line across photos in bright light
6. The other caller gets a bad echo when I turn the speaker phone on, even at lowest volume.
7. The last email account added, doesnt download mail
The list goes on. This is truly a terrible device. If it wasnt for the times that things did work fully (rare) and the money I paid for it, it would truly be in the bin!!!
I have read the forums and even after all the hard work people have put in to try and isolate the problems, all of them seem to end up unconclusive regarding the issues I have. I am at my teathers end with this device (
How can the XDA people get away with this, surely they have been approacned about these things? And they say the 2i is better than the 2, blimey I dread to think.....
end rant, thanks for listening
a very disheartened XDA2i user
I recently got an XDAIIi and agree with your post, although 4 is understandable as you shouldn't really be using bluetooth on a plane
I think a lot of the problems are related to third-party software - it might be useful to compare lists of what we have installed, for example I tried out TomTom too and found it ruined the device's stability.
The multiple GPRS connection problem is probably caused by the GPRS monitor program that came on the CD. I had this problem, I uninstalled GPRS Monitor, and GPRS connects correctly every time now.
The camera software is completely flawed, each alternate horizontal line is interchanged before conversion to jpg hence the rubbish quality of the images. Not sure about the horisontal line, but in indoor evening light my XDAIIi was only able to take blurry silhouettes, probably a bug in the automatic brighness control. The camera driver seems to have been sloppily ported from a version for different hardware, and released untested.
The mic pick-up is terrible, and the AGC doesn't seem to make any difference, I get far more people unable to make out what I'm saying than with the plain XDAII. I presume this is another software bug in the AGC.
7 might actually be the bug with all pocketPCs - only the email account currently "open" will auto-download new items periodically.
Also the alarms seem even worse than on normal pocketPCs. As ever I installed WakeupTweak but this time I still missed alarms on a 60s wakup, and had to extend it to 90s.
I have installed Pocket Informant, TT3 (this didnt seem to make anything worse) and have a 1Gb Lexar SD. I did install the GPRS monitor but have since removed it. I think my SD card could be faster, but we keep making excuses for this device.
Re 4, well this was to experiment, as the TT3 crashing has been suggested to be caused by the phone changing cells, but being a Bluethooth GPS I needed flightmode on aswell as BT, which is just about possible but with no definded method other than to confuse it?!? Why the blue blazes they try to force these things I don't know!! I am hoping TT5 will improve this.
re 7. yes i undertand and accept that, but the last one I entered just wont do anything, but not too bothered.
So, as a phone, its rubbish (no speaker phone, crashes, bulky), as a camera it's especially rubbish, as a PDA its ok with wireless in the home, but so long as you dont ask it to do anything out of doors, or even indoors.
These appear on startup, they probably need updating, but not sure where to get the official UK ones

Look forward to hearing about other peoples gripes, next stage with me is probably back to the shop and probably an arguement with some o2 dude.
Perhaps I'm being picky, perhaps I should be happy about giving money away for nothing.
Just scanning through your posts about the IIi. I have had one for about 6 weeks now and haven't experienced any of the problems you describe (not complaining, of course )
I agree that the camera and AGC are not great, but mine behaves itself -- almost typed 'perfectly' there, but that's tempting fate.
I have TT3.07 & Alturion (via a Navman 4410), PocketBreeze 4.3, SPB pocket Plus (+weather add-on)various wifi scanning type programs (I'm a computer tech), a bluetooth neckset, not headset/earpeice and misc. other GPSDash type apps.
Added to this I'm trialling some VITO (navigation/remote/voicedialler) apps and about 300MB of MP3's on a 1GB Sandisk SD card.
My Rom versions are the same as tauria's -- I guess we should all have the same -- there aren't any upgrades/mods yet are there?
The only thing I don't use is GPRS -- don't need it!, otherwise its straight out of the box and saturated in utils and mahjonng/solitaire ( a techies life is sometimes a solitary one  )
I can't offer any advice or help with your problems because I'm not experiencing them, just wanted to add my experience to yours as a sort of balance.
Is it possible you have a couple of rogue devices? or is it possible someone just crayoned an 'i' on mine before sending it out
Me again, I have rememebered that I performed a hard reset and opted for a corporate install, based on some posts relating to the O2 Active software causing problems -- do you have this installed?
I seem to recall there were several thread on this issue, so I went the corporate route to minimise problems.
Maybe that's an area you could look at?
blackfoot I was wondering if you could answer a question.
I just got my mobile phone number transferred to my XDA's SIM today so have used it as a phone for the first time, if i switch off the device (so it's a black screen but phone still active) and it rings it switches on but it just freezes (this only happens with pocketbreeze on the today plugin) I see the fact that the phone is ringing but the box doesn't pop up.
Is there anyway to make pocketbreeze not refresh its data when a call is incoming ? Or does anyone have the same problem?

Wizard ready for prime-time?

I need a device that is ready for the road. Something with excellent bluetooth support and good battery life. I see complaints and praise for the Wizard and can't help but wonder if it is really ready for people to depend on it.
Impressions?
It's ready for prime-time.
It ain't ready for prime-shipping!
Not ready
IMO it's not reliable. I've had numerous issues, but two in particularly make it dodgy for travel:
- on two occasions in two weeks the battery has run from ~75% down to ~2% in about 15 minutes while the phone was in standby!
- on several occasions I've turned it on (out of standby) and it was in flight mode. I never put it in flight mode. So it somehow decided itself to turn off the radio - meaning I missed calls and didn't know I was missing them.
I've also found the GPRS to be flaky and very slow (this is with Cingular in the USA). My old PDA2K was much more reliable.
Guys, we're still on release ROM. Just wait for the first patch for the most obvious bugs.
This said, your problems seem rather strange, never heard anyone having issues with the battery or radio before. :?
to simply answer your question; No, it's not ready.
there are still things to be sorted out and things to fix. if realiability is one of your main concerns, avoid the device for now.

Bluetooth on XDA Exec turning off

I am sure I am missing something here, maybe someone can help.
When the Exec is connected to USB sync or power the Bluetooth will stay on all day no problem.
If I dont use the power cable or sync, it will turn off bluetooth after 15-20 min and refuse to connect the headset untill I go into the menu and turn it back on.
There seams to be some kind of power save kicking in but I cant find it in any menu.
Headset is Jabra BT250 9 (Works very well I have to say)
Any ideas before I get busted for holding the phone while driving?
Thanks
Steve
er..evey phone I have owned I have had to turn on the BT manually before connection to the headset. If you use the Func+"->" key it is very easy to switch on/off the BT. I switch it own in the morning and switch it off at night.
ukspeedtraps ..... I've found that too. I thought it might have been a faulty Motorola BT Speaker that I'm usung with it. But maybe its not. I sometimes have to reset the XGA Exec before it will pair again.
Known issue
This is a known issue with the WM5 ROM (I had the same issue on an XDAII running WM5). The Universal is much better on battery life than my XDAII was. Obviously, a lot went into WM5 and the hardware to maximize battery life. However, when the unit goes into standby, the bluetooth eventually get's turned off (even though the blue light keeps flashing). This is a bug and will hopefully be corrected in a ROM update. If bluetooth staying on is important to you (it is to me) then go to the power settings and uncheck the box which turns the device off after so many minutes when on battery power. Your battery will drain faster (but still tolerable) and your Bluetooth will stay on. Hell, the bluetooth staying on may be what is draining the battery faster, if so, it's hard to complain. Anyway, your device will generally respond better and faster as a nice by product of not being turned off.
PanaBax
@Panabax, I didn't this was a problem. I assumed the blue light meant BT was working. I did, for another reason, uncheck the power off box in the Control Panel.
The number of problems with this device is just crazy.

Do you really thinks so? I find the Exec as good if not better than any other 'First Release' device that I've had. WM5 is still buggy, well so is XP! No new device is ever free from odd glitches.
I have to say that other than a fault on my handset, that is now being replaced, the Exec is superb.
@Splatt, I know this is off topic but I have a Treo 650 and Nokia 9500 (and have had the Nokia 7710, SE P800, P900 & P910) and in comparison I do find that WM5 is more faulty. Just read all the problems people have had here and at www.clubimate.com - it is not good for such an expensive device (remember many people have paid the full SIM free price).
The BT problem discussed in this thread is a good example, I did not know about this problem and I only did not suffer because of a change I made. For a business user not be to be contactable, via BT, is unacceptable when my wife's FREE SE handset can run for 7 days (24 hours a day) and the BT works in the way it should.
its exactly the same for the time being with Blue Angel ...
with beta WM 5.0 installed, BT has been also turning off .... AFAIK its still problem of software, i.e. ROM version offered, hope future releases do solve that issue

Background noice from mic on calls

In calls, the person in the other end complain about extreme background noice. You can leave the HD2 on the table - go to the other end of the room and gently tap the wall.. On the other end of the call, this sounds like you're knocking ON the phone - the mic amplification is that loud..
I've been searching the forums for days no without any luck.. No mather what I do, I don't get this fixed. I've been trying combining different WinMo ROMs, Android versjons, rootfs versions and kernels but with no luck.. Tried almost all radio's out there.. both TMOUS and non-TMOUS versions.
This is an EU version HD2 and - I'm using the operator Netcom in Norway if that matters.
Any, any tips/hints what-so-ever are welcome.
I have the same rom/radio as you. In my case, when talking to someone on the other side they can ear their own voice like like an ecko.
It's not just this radio (radio in signature) - there are problems with all radios I've tried...
I've experienced the same behaviour with my setup (see sig) The caller on the other end of the line hears a lot of background noise...
I would like to know what is causing this, as different radio's don't make a difference. Does anyone have a clue?
Actually the sound driver used in kernel is not finished. Developers know about the problems, but other things need to be fixed first!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I actually disagree.
This is the ONLY reason I'm not using Android as my default OS. I actually wouldn't mind so much if there was excessive background noise on my end, but I can't subject other callers to that.
Tried every Radio since 2.08 and about 15 different ROMS but nothing works.
I hope that this is considered a priority issue and gets resolved asap.
Massive thanks to all the devs working on this, and Android in general. Really appreciate all the hard work guys.
This is what i am talking aboot
Guys,
So close so close... our wait is finally being rewarded...
got round the camcorder issue (downloaded anCorder from Android Market)
and not being able to set alarms (downloaded Alarm Clock V2 from Android market)
Everything else seems fine apart from the most important issue mentioned above (the background loud noise) and of course, the fact that it is launched from WM...
*Awaits impatiently*
PS_ If you install a battery monitor (for percentage) from market (cant remember which one) and everytime you restart the phone says your battery is empty even though its full, then just uninstall that other little program before the screens blanks and locks. Was being impossible for me to come out from sleep.
THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES DEVS
I wasn't aware that the sound drivers need further development as a number of users post they have no problems. Well, then i will wait patiently. It could not be long as development is amazing till now, thanks devs!
Background noise fix should be highest priority for the dev till now, as it will make our HD2 next to perfect. When i make a call, the other end sometimes asks me if i'm frying some food hix,

Cyanogen battery drain HELP !!

Hello. I used cyanogen mod in the past on my desire hd, then switched to rcmixhd, then back to cyanogen (newer release). I noticed first of all that the battery lasts really shorter time. I don't know why, but in the night it goes from 60 to 15% without using anything (no 3g, no wifi, no applications, no alarm), i just leave the telephone on. It hasn't happened to me before.
I flashed a new radio, I will see what happens, but can the radio make a difference in the battery related problem?
Apart from this, i am happy with cyanogen.
One rom related question: is it possible to change the incoming call layout? I am very used to the possibility of 'SILENTING' the call. Let's say someone calls, I want to have the possibility to make the phone NOT ring while still NOT refusing the call. On this rom I only have 2 buttons: accept and decline. No 'silent ringtone' available while the phone rings, which is different to refusing the call. I just want to keep the incoming call without the ringtone, after the call starts...i think you understand what i mean, it is a common function in every rom I had.
And also: I tried the game 'backstab HD'. It runs really with poor framerate. Is it normal? It has good graphics ok, but I don't think it's normal for a game built for phones to go that slow. Modern combat goes very smooth...even reckless racing HD now goes smoother than before. Backstab is almost unplayable. I think I could do something with chainfire 3d ?

Volume down should silence the ring/vibrate.
tonight battery went from 70% to 2% (from 3.30 a.m. to 10 a.m.). I find it impossible to use the phone like this.
How can I fix this battery problem? Last time I used cyanogen the battery could last up to 3 days with normal use. With the time the ROM should get better, not worse....I am searching for a solution, many people have this problem and no one knows how to fix it.

Hi !
Check out the radio threads, and see the setups from the other guys.
I had heavy battery drain with different radios. The last radio from cyanogen
( running alienmind v1.99 ) works great now.
Just need to test everything and need to find the best setup for you
Now, one of better think is to make a full charge of your battery, device turned off.
when you reboot your device(at 100%), go in CWM=>advanced=>clean/wipe battery stat.
Do it two or three time and see...
if no result you can instal Battery History for GB
Look if something drain anormaly your battery.
If no result, change ROM
If no result, change your dead battery.
And read this guide
i did the reset of the battery stats today, things may be better. I will also flash another radio to try everything. If not, I really don't know, i may have to change rom although i was happy with cyanogen the first time.
Just backup your old rom and flash (wipe) the newest from cyanogen... and see yourself.
If the battery drain is still there ( i hope not )
I had only problems with cyanogen when i customized it ( other radios, kernels and widgets )
so which radio is the best for the latest cm7? I have the Telus version if that makes a difference. thx
Yeah I was getting pretty severe battery drains too, but then I updated my radio and RIL and now it's significantly better. Here is a guide to update your radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295&highlight=radio
After that I updated my RIL using CWM. Just go to Download ROM -> gtg465x -> RIL Flasher.
I'm currently using Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 with AlienMinds CM 7.1 v 1.9.9 with great success. Great battery life and smooth operation.
