Radio Stack Update Overview - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I am looking at upgrading my radio stack because I get horrible, horrible service where I am. However, I am a bit confused, so I was wondering if you all could help me fill in the blanks. I have a T-Mobile phone, so the following data will be T-Mobile centric.
TMobile 6.18
--------------
This is the default Radio Stack with T-Mobile phones. You should already have this
TMobile 6.24
--------------
- Improves GRPS Connection Speed
- Improved reception
- Needs WM2003 As Well????
- Where can this be found???? (ie, email it to me if you can - [email protected])
- Can be installed on T-Mobile/AT&T/O2???
O2 4.21
---------
- Not sure what improvements this gives
- Does this work with all networks? Can I install it on my T-Mobile?
- Can I switch to 6.24 or some other stack after I do this?
AT&T
------
- http://www.my-siemens.com/com.apert...n/da/us/mw/mc/mc/ruuv1.11_cea.20.17wwe_aws.ex
- What does this include? Just radio stack? Or Radio stack and ROM upgrade? Which ROM version?
- Supposedly improved reception/gprs
- Is this official?
- Works on T-Mobile/AT&T/O2?
So, can you all help me fill in the blanks???
Thanks,
Dan

Dan - You could try the WM2003 Update w/Radio Stack for T-Mobile
It is available on http://www.yorch.net/ under the ROM Kitchen.
The majority of posts agree that it is the most stable for T-Mobile MDA's
I would advise you not to try the European Radio Stack versions on a 1900 Device - Best stick with T-Mobile or SX56 Updates.
Cheers
Al

T-mobile radio upgrade

Hi
What is the latest radio upgrade for t-mobile and where can i get it.
My device info. :
Rom ver. : 3.14.40 ENG
Rom date: 11/26/02
Radio ver.:6.18
Protocol ver. :324e4
Thanks
u have the latest official tmo upgrade
What about unofficial one but 100% working without problems?
u can upgrade it to ATT radio stack if u want. however people had problems reverting back to TMO radio stack. u can upgrade the OS part to 2003 if u want and leave the radio stack as is.
is anybody have the original radio stack for TMO as a file? I am thinking of reverting from At&T stack.

As far as I know once you have gone ATT you can't come back....
OR, wait until T-Mobile releases their own upgrade
any word if they will release an upgrade and if so will it contain the radio stack. I found the At&t stack kind of buggy. Maybe it's just where I am but the GPRS will droput for no reason and then I loose voice also and it will not come back until I do a soft reset.

According to Lazarus ( an ATT Network Guru) the ATT radio stack has been tweaked and optimized for ATT's network, so that would explain why others have experienced trouble....
Oh shoot, I wish I have read this post before I upgrade to the ATT radio stack. Couldn't we simply download the latest ROM from T-Mobile and revert back to the T-mobile radio stack and rom?
I tried it just crashes right after it starts. It basically says that it can't upgrade because the radio stack you have is already higher. Guess we got to wait for TMo to release something higher. I am at A.20.10 and 4.00.01Eng for os.
Try running the "Adaptrom" program in your T-mobile application upgrade folder.

it has nothing to do with adaptrom. radio stack kicks in after u flash back the OS ROM
I'd keep the ATT stack
If you use the T-mobile (US) radio stack with windows mobile 2003, you don't get always on GPRS, so I'd stick with the ATT stack for now (and I have!).
cheers,

ATT radio works fine for me too. It is more that the network drops you or you lose data connection between cells, or the network has a load balance that give placement to voice users over data when bandwidth is needed. Not so much that your radio stack does it.
On the other hand just incase anyone wants to prove my theory wrong  has anyone in the US upgraded their radio stack to O2 4.21 and experienced a better performance than AT&T's radio stack :?: This means you probably already had to manually switch the default band 8) first?
Let me know I love to be wrong  ......I'm only that much smarter than I was yesterday
I think 4.21 would only work in Europe. You'll probably get no signal after you upgrade from At&t stack. I am going to stick with At&t i think I just got crappy coverage in the area that's all.
@amarandei
4.21 works great here in austria with t-mobile. i have gprs always on (on now since i rebooted 3 days ago).
and if it needs to be connected that works WAYS faster that before (with 2002 and 3.16)
converning speed i can't say anything positive nor negative. it just works. sometimes slower sometimes faster.

TMO radio stack installation
I have TMO radio version 6.02
I downloaded the latest update from TMO (US) which claimed it would upgrade the radio but it did not appear to update the radio stack. Could that be becaues I am running the developers rom and it thinks I have a more recent version? If so how can I update the radio stack without having to go back to the old rom first?

Does it support Sim Tool Kit
Hi Ali,
Does this upgrade have the sim tool kit?
Thanks in advance :?:
isn't this the same version everyone has been using?
I just have to run the executable file right? I don't need an SD Card writer or anything for this download? just my normal connection and activesync? what if the upgrade screws up? can i reload the old ROM image? and where do i get it!
Thanks a lot!

Hello again
well, what i have notice there are more then one version of WM2003

I had the same set upwith yours previously. I upgraded to SER 1.2 and WM 2003 after that. I also upgrade my radio stack to 4.21 from O2 UK. But now, I am back with SER 1.2 and Radio stack 4.21. I wish Icould go back to my old Radio Stack 4.17.
With 4.21 Ilost the "G" and signal strength for GPRS.
I hope my experience helps.
Beeheij, why didn't you keep the 4.17 radio version with WM2003 ? Was it not running properly ?
I think it's always dangerous upgrading the radio module with newer version dedicated to other regions (UK)
Thanks,
brix3,
I want to back to 4.17, but I cannot. Somehow during the process of rolling back I was kicked out.
As for the WM2003, the problem was in the SMS mode. When I picked a phone number, the "+"sign in my contact was not transferred tothe address in the SMS. So each time I wanted to send SMS, I had to correct the phone number.
My Battery Pack was not working. It hung my XDA.
Hope this helps
Has anyone in the US used or done this upgrade? Since it also upgrades the Radio Stack I'm just wondering. If GPRS is getting dropped as stated in other posts it is more that the network drops you or you lose data connection between cells, or the network has a load balance that give placement to voice users over data when bandwidth is needed. Not so much that your radio stack does it.

I'm a little confused. I upgraded to XDA v1.2 and my Device Informations are:
ROM Version: 3.17.03
ROM Date: 05/15/03
Radio Version: 6.18.00
Protocal Version: 324e4
How is it that my radio version is so much higher?

i must admit this version of ppc2003 is the dogs danglys compared to the old ozone version

as far as i know XDA v1.2 will not touch your Radio, it will just replace your old CE ROM with the new one which has lots of cool stuff.

UAE: Best Radio version?

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who posts to this forum - I've been reading it for a month or so now and am constantly impressed with the quality of the knowledge here, especially the developers...
I have a QTEK 1010 bought here in Dubai, UAE, with the following device info:
ROM version: 4.00.01 ENG
ROM date: 05/16/03
Radio version: 3.23.01
Protocol version: 32S54
I have found that browsing using IE feels slower, and have the feeling that this version of the ROM does not work well with the radio version. Does anyone reading this forum live in the UAE? I'd like to upgrade the Radio, but need to know which version works best with Etisalat (our Telco).
Any comments much appreciated!
Thanks, Doms...
P.S. I'm going to upgrade the ROM to 4.00.05 when I get the opportunity
hi, i am from dubai and i am using 4.00.1 from t-mobile and 4.21 from o2, so far everything fine just when i reset the t-mobile logo appears.
do you have bluetooth option in that version and your version was already installed or you upgraded yourself?
Use the o2 Radio Version 4.21 it will work fine...
Thanks for the responses guys. Does this new radio version provide any benefits over the one I have?

1) The QTEK does not support Bluetooth, and there is no way to make it work on a QTEK either.
2) There is no Bluetooth option in any of my menus or settings (I would expect this as my device does not support Bluetooth). Windows PPC2003 is supposed to be able to support Bluetooth, however: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2003/bluetooth.mspx
3) I upgraded to the 4.00.05 version of Windows PPC2003 myself using Jeff's ROM Kitchen (thanks Jeff!) http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/
Hi, Once i had 4.00.01 and in connection setting i had Bluetooth option but ofcourse it was not working, the other thing is do you know any camera work with SD port of Qtek? i mean something availble in the market.
4.21 is more stable i think.
cheers,
I had some problems when making calls on my QTEK yesterday. While in a voice conversation audible clicking noises can be heard and after about 1 minute of conversation the quality of the call deteriorates until the other party cannot hear me. I'll try upgrading the radio...
I don't know about the camera support using the SD slot in the QTEK. My first instinct would be to say no, it's not possible, but I can't confirm that...
I bought a Qtek 1010 in Dubai Duty Free the other week. I've since upgraded the ROM using ROMkitchen and am delighted with it. One thing I did notice though is that the speakerphone functionality (claimed in the Qtek handbook) doesn't seem to work. I didn't try it before I upgraded so can someone tell me if it works with the native UAE ROM code, and if so does anyone have any idea how I could get it working again?
David
I own a QTEK in the UAE and here is my share to those asking about OS and Radio updates here:
I upgraded from
ROM version: SER 1.2
Radio version: 3.23.01
To
ROM version: 4.00.10 ENG (T.Mobile Test)
Radio version: 4.21.00 (O2 UK)
Everyting seems to work fine apart from 2 minor issues so far:
Make sure you set your band to 900Europe as the default is 1900North America in phone/tools/options
The signal fades out sometimes but doznt affect the reception
No G signal but GPRS is OK.
GPRS stays connected; have to turn phone off and on to disconnect.
Advice:
Read a lot before you upgrade. This forum has a wealth of information.
Cheers

Wallaby PW10A1 Radio Stack confusion

Hi!
Got a question regarding the Radio Stacks. I am using an XDAI from O2 Germany, which has the latest Radio Stack released by O2 themselves, which is 4.21. During more or less aimless surfing sessions in the undocumented backwaters of the Internet (dyndns sites :roll I found Radio Stack updates with non-linear version numbering which are not ActiveSync updates but install directly from the device.
- What is the difference (except the installation mechanism)? Are those safe to use or am I bound to screw up my phone using those?
- Why is the version numbering different? After my 4.21 the site lists A20.10, 6.24.20 and 6.25.24 as available. Which one is the most recent for my PW10A1? The 6.25.24? Or can/should I use the A20.10?
The reason I am considering the upgrade at all is that I get weird "clicks" and connections losses during conersation, especially after the first few minutes of conversation. To me and the other side it sounds as if I was temporarily driving through a tunnel or something, the connections keeps up but no speech is transmitted. And all that while the signal meter gives me 70-80%.
Or could it be a problem that I am using my O2 XDA with a T-Mobile prepaid card? I always considered GSM to be pretty generic. GPRS etc. is not in use on the device.
Any input? If this questions has been asked before, please be so kind and point me to the corresponding thread, I couldn't locate it with the search function.
The 6.xx Radio Versions are for PW10B models (900/1900 MHZ networks)
The 4.xx Radio Versions are for PW10A models (900/1800 MHZ networks)
The A.xx Radio Versions could be for for any of them.....
Flashing the wron version could end your device as a paperweight.....

I did Flash with the 3.17.03eng the pw10a1 radio stack with 6.20.xx i don't know,
what i should do throwe the **** or what

Are you sure you have a PW10A model? Check the rear sticker of this device. Normally ends flashing the wrong Radio stack in GSM Error.
In the wiki is a howto about this....

hi, Stefan
Yes i am sure that the model name is PW10A1, and could you please help me about it

ROM Versions

Hi all,
After doing a look around on O2, Orange and T-Mobiles websites in the UK I got the following version information:
CE ROM:
O2: 1.30.107
Orange: 1.30.174
T-Mobile: 1.30.232
Radio:
O2: 1.09
Orange: 1.13
T-Mobile: 1.10.03
I know that Radio version is subjective but I assume that 1.13 would have some bug fixes over 1.09?
Also is 1.30.232 actually newer/better than 1.30.107 or again is this subjective?
Are there newer versions than this around?
I am looking to use the latest AKU2 with the best Radio ROM and my own custom Ext-ROM.
Thanks in advance!!!
G
1. get radio 1.14 from somewhere.
2. get a wm6 rom from somewhere (ver. 2.xx.xxx)
3. :¬D

Before you do anything,m read the wiki and the threads on the newer ROMs - it is not as simple as you think, particularly with the radio ROM.
Hiya,
I don't particularly want Crossbow (don't see the point, the Universal is slow enough without that), or particularly want AKU3, doesn't really offer anything I want or need, want I'm really after is just a nice stable AKU2 installation.
Will give Radio 1.14.10 a shot along with the newest AKU2 I can find on the operators websites.
Anyone got any ideas on getting a backup should anything go wrong? ActiveSync's backup option of course has been removed in WM5 (*GREAT* idea MS)
Thanks
G
Radio 1.14.10 seems to be from Vodafone in Italy, anyone know if this is actually compatible with O2 in the UK?

The 1.14.1 ROM on the FTP site works fine with O2UK. If you are using Jwright's latest ROM, I would use 1.13.
