How employ other gps software with EMTAC BT antenna than TT

I have the tomtom navigator 3 and a EMTAC bluetooth antenna and this works perfectly
My problem is that when I'am trying to employ other softwares like VITONAVIGATOR, GPSDASH ,INTELLIGOLF, and so on I cannot configure the softwares to recognize my antenna.

solution is simple...
sorry to say it, but uninstall TomTom GPS or better the whole TomTom and use Mapsonic or Mapopolis instead of it...

Yes of course but i already bought tomtom, is there any other solution?

Simple, in Remove Programs uninstall TomTom~GPS.
This won't prevent TomTom from working but will stop TomTom locking the BT Com Port for its own exclusive use.

but, tomtom needs also far more processing power than other comparable programs, that means battery drains 30% faster, slower UI response, etc.
i know, battery is not any issue if you are driving, but i sometimes walk as well... )))
anyway, i don't like tomtom...
do you maybe know, is it possible to do crossborder routing in newer tomtom versions? like you can in mapopolis?

It looks like TomTom v5 will do cross border-routing yes. I have never experienced slow response to the UI except when using SD for map storage on iPAQ2210's. Using CF resolves this.
v5 also introduces walking and cycling modes which alter the route calculations. What PDA/GPS/memory Card Combo do you use?

i'm using XDA2 + EMTAC BT + Mapsonic or Mapopolis.
Maps are on Transcend 64Mb SD card.
i'm very satisfied with this combination

just being playing with mine :lol: :shock: eerrrr right
first delete gps 2.07 or above then soft reset the device install pocket bluetooth tools delete the pairing with your receiver repair then ( during which you will be asked to create a serial port for this device select NO at this point then intall gps 2.06 available from www.pocketgpsworld.com this available in the downloads section under tomtom gps drivers.
download the cab file and copy it to the xda2 and then exicute it from file explorer select you reciver and away you go
well thats how i did it hopefully the above ramblings make sense :lol:

Alix, how will he configure the other gps software if no serial port has been assigned, I understand this works under tomtom as "bluetooth gps" but I am not so sure it will work with the software he mentions.unless you have tried it, if so how did you configure it.?

bluetooth tools asigns the comport to com7 not sure hows these thing work really it just worked for me i can run tomtom 3 and copoilt 5 on the same machine

anyone got navngo to work on the wizard ?
I had the std sd version. copied it to minisd and used a hack I found (ahem!) to get by the security encoding.
It installs now and loads up, but after staying on the menu screen for a few seconds it crashes out !!!
Any use this, and is it a WM5 or a Wizard issue ?

since this NAVNGO Software workds great on the Jasjar.

I don't think the minisd card is anything to do with it. navngo told me themselves that it will work fine on minisd and that they will transfer it for 60 nis. I am just worried that there is something wrong with the wizard. however its good to know that it is working ok on your jasjar, obviously wm5 is not a problem.

Where did you purchase this from? I can only find Israeli sites with NavnGo. I found references that NavnGo is actually iGo (http://www.i-go.com) but there is no information of where this software is available.
It looks pretty good though.

navngo is a pretty cool gps nav system specialising in multilingual implementations. it has all the latest stuff like 3d, night view, etc.
Due to its roots it is currently only targeted at the following countries:
1. Hungary
2. Israel
3. Romania
4. Slovenia
I believe the team are currently working on a pan-european version to compete with tom tom
In terms of the questions above. I have always found the navngo team very helpful. If you email them they will take 3-4 days to reply but will normally always do so.

Tom Tom 5 Navigator installed perfectly out of the box

I thought it may be of use to future TT5 users. Today I bought TT5 Navigator in the UK from Dixons (yeah hate the shop too but it was an impulse buy). There was no CD supplied but instead a 128mb SD card was in the box with TT5 and the UK maps. After I copied this to my mini SD it installed perfectly first time, straight out of the box. Having checked in the preferences the version is 5.210 (5430).
Unfortunately it doesn't rotate the screen when I slide the keyboard out. But at least they seem to have fixed the installation.
EDIT: I have an O2 XDA Mini S but did not install any of the O2 software.

But you can flip the screen in the TomTom setup all four ways

i am trying to install TT5. it came on a cd. loading instructions said to copy zip file to my documenys on xda exec and great britian maps on sd card then synchronise the xda and run cd and it should go fine. but this does not happen ? anybody knows about this problem?

How well do you find it runs on the Wizard?
I'm in pretty much exactly the same position, although I have a slightly older 5.0 version which I'm running on my X50V. It seems daft to take both the X50V and XDA Mini S so I'm looking to get Tomtom on the Mini S - my main concern is battery draw, I assume you're using a BT GPS receiver, how quickly does it run down?
On another note, anyone know what the activation limits are for Tomtom? I've activated it once around October last year on the X50V, the Wizard is obviously a different device.

had the same problem installing TT5 on my wizard.
TT5 installation does check the capacity of your memory card and quits without any message ich it's insufficient.
After installing a 1G SD card everything went well.

Would there be any chance you could zip all of the files up and upload them somewhere? You need a license code to activate the software, so it wouldn't be illegal. It's just that alot of people seem to be having problems.

I've got Version 6 working, a bit of a pain to get a version of it that works without the problems mentioned elsewhere in the site. Also have to watch for the GPS set up via bluetooth, its not totally intuative on the M600. Other than that, it works well and does not crash like V5.21 does on my Axim

Then get TomTom. I have v5.21 and it works fine.

Yes. There's no way to connect a wired GPS.

M600 and Route66
I recently did quite lot of research and found what I needed. A fairly basic GPS route finder system, that does, contrarary to the manufacturers website, 7 figure postcode searches, with updatable POI speed camera database (as long as you're prepared to fiddle with the CSV files with the camera info in).
I bought Route66 Navigator 7 for PPC (UK/Ireland) from Expansys. The manufacturers guff doesnt actually state that it works with WM5 but it does. I bought this because it did what I want and it was pretty cheap. The speed camera database also doesnt seem to be mentioned, but loaded onto the PPC with the rest of the software. I had no installation problems, the hardest part was waiting for the software to load the maps onto my SD card. I would recommend quite a fast card speed and make sure theres plenty of space as UK maps take up about 250ish Mb.

I used it to travel to central London with my family and managed to get there pretty much stress free. Signals were clear and with plenty of notice, lots of POI available, like pubs, hotels, etc. I found a web site that will let you download POI, the link is here somewhere;

TomTom on the MDA Compact III?

Hi there,
I am new to the sat nav scene; really need one that is as portable as my mobile so as it is upgrade time I thought it best to kill 2 birds with one stone.
I’m looking for info on how you installed tom tom on your mda iii compact from tmobile. I’m going for the one without co-pilot so do I simply need to order the software from tom tom and which type? And what is the set-up process like in terms of difficulty?

It works
You would need to order TomTom Navigator. The PDA-Version is called "Navigator".
Since you already have a GPS receiver inside the MDA Compact III it would be enough to get the "TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 - Software & Maps of Western Europe on DVD" - Package. I don't know if it is possible to get one map only -- let's say UK. You have to look that up on the website www.tomtom.com. They have a section where you can buy and download maps. This would be cheaper than ordering the DVD but I don't know if you still need to buy the Navigator software itself. (Also check out Amazon.)
To store the map(s) on the device you will need a microSD memory card. Depending on the size of your map get a card with enough memory and keep in mind that you perhaps want to have some free space left to store other things on it ...
If you ever installed software, it will not be any more difficult to install TomTom. Copy your map to the Storage Card. You must activate the map via www.ttcode.com once before you can use it. When setting up GPS in TomTom, I set it to: "Other NMEA GPS", 57600 baud, COM4
Which COM-port to use can be seen in Start -> Settings, System tab -> GPS
The port that is displayed there should be selected in TomTom. And I also think, 4800 baud may do it as well.
As far as I am concerned, TomTom works just fine on the MDAc3 and setting it up is easy.
One final remark: According to my information T-Mobile UK does not sell the Wi-Fi version of the device where T-Mobile NL does sell it WITH Wi-Fi. I don't know if you care about that. Just wanted to mention it.

Thanx for the very useful information. I checked with Tom Tom site and can get NAVIGATOR 6 - Software & regional maps on memory card, Smart & easy navigation on your PDA/mobile phone for £68.42 then I’ll order the T-Mobile MDA Compact III without Co-pilot.
But I’m a bit worried about the Tom Tom version because when ordering you have to a list of MDAs from T-Mobile and the list does not include MDA Compact III.
It lists
• MDA Compact
• MDA III
• MDA PRO
Does this make any difference?
I am not too fused about Wi-Fi but still think its handy though…

I think it does not make any difference because the operating system platform is Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 2003 SE and both of them are supported by TomTom Navigator 6.
I have installed TomTom v6.0 on a T-Mobile MDA Compact 3 myself and it runs just fine.
Just get a microSD and copy the content of the TomTom memory card to it and I am pretty sure it will work. TomTom is great and the MDAC3 is a sweet device. Go for it.

How to set up GPS in TomTom 5
Similar to my answer from post #2:
First, you have to check to which COM-port the internal GPS receiver of your device is assigned to. Go to: Start -> Settings, System tab -> GPS
Set "GPS program port:" to COM4 (this is the default, other ports might also work).
In TomTom set your GPS settings to
"Other NMEA GPS"
"GPS baud rate:" 57600 or 4800 (both should work)
"GPS is connected to:" COM4 (from system GPS settings)
TomTom is sometimes picky when radio of the device is switched off. TomTom will show "No GPS device!" and "Flight mode". In this case, TomTom might not be able to access the GPS receiver.

I am going to order the MDA compact III at the end of my contract which is in 9days time but I just wanted to ask about memory card.
I assume it comes with one, but as you mentioned earlier and I’m getting the impression I will need to get one or one a with a bigger capacity to store the tt6 and allow some extra space for other bits?
What size microSD memory card do you recommend?

Biggest you can afford. At the moment 2gig is what I use without any problem. Don't be stingy on memory as this card is "burried"inside and below the sim card

Anyway new development
Got my mda iii compact late last month and finally tried to install the tom tom 6 software eagerly last night but found navigator 6 came on an sd card not micro sd. So I dashed out in the snow to get the card but hit a little problem which meant the pda didn’t recognise the software but this was resolved on my 2nd attempt. At one stage I called Tom Tom tech support for help and they wouldn’t assist and I quote “mda compact iii is not compatible with navigator 6”. What do we know hey?
I’ve set up the COM ports as advised and it seems ok. I am yet to take it for a test drive but I’ll let you know how it goes.

Tomtom 6.02 or even 6.03 will have the built-in gps receiver option.

Bear in mind please that this is both my first PDA, wnidows mobile device and satnav, newbie on 3 fronts here, dont assume I know anything at all and may have messed up settings trying to get it to work, I'll happily do a factory reset if it will help....

I have set my GPS programport to com4
I have tried with hardware port "none" and "com3"
Tried with baud rate of 4800 and 57600.
with auto manage on and oFF
I have set tomtom up with Nmea with baud at 4800 and 57600
and set the com port to "com4" and GPS.
I still get the No GPS device! message.
What is meant when EvilPati said "when radio of the device is switched off" and "TomTom might not be able to access the GPS receiver"
How do Find out if the fault is:
system set up (I've cocked up windows mobile v5)
Hardware (GPS is broken or not configured)
tomtom (I've not set it up right)
I've got the system over the internet, I've got 3 days left to change my mind (distance selling regs in the UK give you 7 days to change your mind) I want the GPS or it goes back.

Dunno what I did.
After messing up my memory card (Lost the maps, me stoopid ) I've just had to reinstall it. And it took an hour to sort out.
Right, first off, the signal inside any building is PANTS, you need to be out side for the device to get a good signal, after all it keeps telling you there is no signal.
Second.
be patient, it takes a while for it to get a lock, sometime it may take 2 mins (sometimes it's instant)
For several attempts with the above settings it failed
I changed stuff like com port to 9, changed the voice, did a soft reset.
Changed it all back again to com 4 and baud to 4800 (in tomtom and wm gps setting)
and second attempt it worked.
still no idea quite how it worked.
the trick is to be patient and be outside.
do it when your not in a hurry.
you can tell when its going to work, if you tap the "5 bar" thing that looks like a signal or battery meter at the bottom or right of your screen, it shows a new screen, tap the same bar meter and it will show a circle (compas), and a set of bars. if you have and dots on the compas, they're satalites. You need the bars to get 4/5 of the way up (just for a short while).
if I can help any more I will, but I'm busy for a few days so a reply may take a while.... sorry.
