Search around for Pocket TV
www.pockettv.com and its free
thanks guys..
illl give this a go.. looks a cool app
maxd
use pocket mvp uses less power of the cpu then pocket tv + also plays mp3, div x and vogorbis files
Does anybody have any films ready converted to mpeg?? I have some short films like killer bean2 2 which is brilliant but would like some more.
i have matrix reloaded encoded to divx format 320x240 size 250bps 21kbs sound (landscape) works wicked on pocklet mpv but file size is 124mb and too big for me to transfer on a 56k lol
i could start up a pocket pc movie thing on here but it would be kinda illegal and the mods wouldnt allow it

Hey, listen... 'The mods' have traded plenty of warez, MP3s and movies when they were young and wild. Thing is that this is a website. Great for some things, not for others. Websites aren't Usenet, Kazaa or BitTorrent: they come with convenient contact details of people to sue.
Now in the theoretical event somebody were to set up an anonymously freehosted page that contained loads and loads of PocketPC movie Bittorrent files and kept posting the location of this page on this board, there would be absolutely nothing we could do about it. We would be completely and utterly unable to help the authorities. Imagine the horror...
You could also try downloading the Windows Media Encoder (do a search on the Microsoft site). This allows you to encode most media types (MPEG, AVI etc) into WMV format. There are already templates setup for the Pocket PC so it is very straight forward and the results on the Pocket PC using WMP9 are excellent. Small file sizes as well. I use this all the time to encode stuff recorded using my TV card.
yeah but wmf are very crap quality and not as clear as divx encoded movies + dont run as smooth on as high bitrate as 250+
i think ill leave the movies thing too risky

Best DVD Convertor

I`ve recently upgraded from a Sony Ericsson P910i to an O2 XDA Exec.
What I`m after is help with converting my DVD\Divx movies into something that can be played on the Exec.
I`ve spotted a few programs on www.handango.co.uk and www.expansys.com.
But am confussed...Which is best?
And what settings to use in terms of resolution, frame rate, etc.
Have a read of this link, you dont need to buy any software and the results are excellent

I would suggest MacTheRipper and ffmpegX, both of which are excellent.
Best Player
Many thanks.
I love the guide...Very easy to follow.
A couple of more questions...
Whats the best video player for the Exec?
If Windows Media Player is best then how can I get this to play Dixv\Xvid files?
I think this is the best one to date.
http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
its very good
So does this mean that you dudes don`t recommend getting the off-the-shelf one-click dvd convertors?
are you chaps finding that the video isnt completely smooth using tcpmp?
plug the JJ into the mains, you'll see an improvement in video playback over a certain resolution, smaller vids play fine anyway
BEST DVD - PPC Program
I bought Pocket DVD studio after trying it out - it was quite cheap., and in my opinion works great...
Thsi encodes them to WMV files (Windows Meida Version 9) - which media player can play. YES I KNOw - there are better players ot there...
http://www.pqdvd.com/watch_dvd_on_pocket_pc.html
I also bought DVD-to-PocketPC - THIS IS CRAP. It crops the videos to 4:3 aspect on some of the DVDs that I wanted to convert.
Their support was CRAP - yes they emailed me back and told me to read the help !!!!! - which is what I had done - and told them in the email that I had... a complete waste of money[/url]

couple of question on Exec, please have alook

hi all
I am getting O2 XDA Exec
I would glad if you can clear out the following points from someone who already owns one:
YOU DONT HAVE TO SAY HOW TO DO IT, SIMPLE ANSWERS WILL DO
Does skype work over gprs at all?
if yes, how much skype will use interms of gprs bandwidth
2- can you play video 640x480 @30fps
4- now the most important question, how well does the exec handles games. I am looking at some 3d games.
and will be playing playstation one emulator.
5- incase it was simlocked, does anyone know if O2 does unlock the phone
thanks for your time
comon people someone must have few answers
all those views and no replies?
i only have the question to 5 and as far as i know, O2 Exec is not sim locked
for the Skype, it didn't work with me over GPRS, no matter what i tried.
for the gaming, personally i don't play games on it whatsoever (exept for the buble breaker), but one friend is spending most of his time playing 3Ds on it, but i never saw the PS1 emulator on it & i sure don't know if it's gonna work fine on it.
cheers
where do i get the ps1 emulator, plz i know i can get snes emulator etc but if you can get me the software or the link i will gladly check it for you!
thanks
this is the ps emulator link is:
http://fpsearm.psxfanatics.com/
speed depend on game, so I am mainly looking for final fantasy 7
have you tried the emulator?
can you inform us on the results
I have played movies at 30fps at 640x480 using pocket dvd studio to rip the dvd. It's a littly choppy at times and sometimes sputters but for the most part it works fine. I haven't tried playing them without all the background stuff running like voice command etc. - maybe that would help with the choppiness. If you're looking for top of the line quality without any hiccups you might be disappointed though.
this is what I am trying to feel, I am expecting too much from it.
I had not owned PDA before. thus I have really high expectations from it.
I think the Universal is not for me, gonna get a PDA phone when its mature enough
As to the video playback, I use ImToo DVD ripper and then convert to Pocket PC format using Windows Movie Maker. Tthis gives me quality video and stereo sound without a large file footprint.
by the way majdi, I am from jordan too (same country) but I am living in the uk
can you inform me on the exec price there?
and would appreciate if you gave me you msn ID
salam
Does skype work over gprs at all?
>> It depends on the operator. With Vodafone NZ it does, but consumes about 1mb an hour just being logged in
2- can you play video 640x480 @30fps
>> Yes, but you need to get Betaplayer (do a google search)
5- incase it was simlocked, does anyone know if O2 does unlock the phone
>> Xda Exec and Mini S ARE NOT SIM LOCKED.
For playing DVDs on my O2 XDA Exec I use Pocket DVD for PALM (which I bought for my TH55/E1). I use TCPMP to play them at 15fps without any slow downs, glitches, nor loss of sound. It plays smoothly like watching a movie on a small DVD player. The only drawback is it uses about 400MB of my SD Card memory. I use the following settings:
DVD / Movies SETTINGS:
Fullscreen: 464x288 (134 kPixel); 24 kbps audio 6 channels; 490 kbps video (6th setting)
Widescreen: 464x224 (104 kPixel); 24 kbps audio 6 channels; 486 kbps video (5th setting)
re DVD
i use pocket DVD studio which can be downloaded from www.pocketgear.com and it is about $39.
i convert my movies 320X240 at about 15fps
the result is good decent quality audio and video on the exec and a typical movie 2 hours length is done at about 210Mb.
originally converted movies for my Blueangel (XDA2s) but now using same files on the exec and not a major difference in quality except for the odd fast action sequences which become pixelated and blotchy but a fair compromise between size and quality!
on the whole i can live with these settings. i play the files on Betaplayer. Top quality freeware, doenst use a lot of memory and perfect for playing all types of files.
thanks
most of you use 15fps, does the video look strange at that frame rate?
aslo if someone could clarify speed on games, that would be nice
re ps1 emulator
finally got it to work! downloaded emulator and the bios file
i had destruction derby 2 for the ps1 at home so i created the 'backup' image file and put the file on the memory card
fired up the emulator and the emu works fine and applied the bios
loaded the image file of the game and it also started loading BUT was tooo slow.
on the pc version of the emu i had about 200fps whereas on the exec was 15fps at best, way too slow to play. sound was too loud and distorted and graphics were ok-ish.
so this experience for me was not a good one and will not be pursuing ps1 emulation on the exec.
hope this helps

Windows Media won't go full screen

On all my other XDAs I could view videos in complete full mode.
I have tried all I can to find out how my exec will play a movie in full and it won't.
It just blacks out the rest of the screen and plays a tiny little video in letterbox shape.
This is so so so annoying and i would love to find out if anyone can help.
I haven't seen anything on here about it - search returns nil.
Is anyone able to play Full Screen????
Help me.
Use a freeware player like TCPMP. WMP doesn't support full-screen playback, its a problem with the OS itself.
So this is a bug isolated to WM5/WMP10 only? WMP9 doesn't have any problems on WM 2003.
This problem is request and know in i-mate web... Looking for solutions.
Worked on wm9
Yeah I agree, on my old XDA ii and XDA iis it worked fine. must be a wm10 or wmb5 thing.
With that in mind, is there a way to put windows media 9 on my pda?
Also on another subject, i just did the latest upgrade ofrom from o2's site and my phone keeps crashing and has the following errors:
* when I go back to the today screen, the last window is still showing on the icon left hand side of the screen, therefore stopping me from selecting things.
* My e-mail accounts keep disapearing although the name of them still shows in the selection option in the today screen. This used to happen all the time before the upgrade and now it is worse. Usually deletes the account after a soft reset or crash. annoying thing is you can't name a new account with the previous name as it is still stored in the memory somewhere but you can't find it in the e-mail program.
* when i did my upgrade, I copied everything across from the pda (drag and drop) so that I could re-insert the message files to keep my sms's, although it just copied empty folders. Are all the files locked or restricted or did I need to perform the drag and drop by files and not folders?
I seem to have a love and hate relationship with my pda. Although, the best thing about wmb5 is the memory, no more lost data when your battery dies. They are getting closer to laptop functionality and I can't wait to see what the next version has to offer.
* and finally, it is slower than ever.
Hi all
Any updates or new ifo on why wm10 doesnt play recorded videos in full screen?
thanks

Windows Media player full screen
Hi,
Samething is missing.
I have a Xda Universal and a Xda Atom.
Last Rom in both.
Running ORB (www.orb.com) on home PC.
Xda Universal connect via Wifi steam via orb cannot get full screen.
Xda Atom same connection same programs install via Wifi I can get full screen in Windows Media Player. Both systems WM5.
Why canĀ“t I see full screen in Universal?
Regards
JoseF
I don't know how it say it nicely (but I mean no disrespect) but the point needs to be made: Trying to use WMP for video playback is so worthless (compared to using TCPMP) that it is rediculous to spend time and effort in regards to the video play back in WMP not being full screen. If you're not the kind of person who would be willing to try the free TCPMP (soon to be BetaPlayer or pay version CorePlayer) then there's no reason to be on these forums.
Hi . I usually use TCPMP
The point is that it you can see in full screen in WMP in WM5
The question is why you can see in the Atom but not in the Universal
If you see the topic is
"Windows Media won't go full screen"
The question is not using TCPMP
JoseF
Agree with JoseF.
Sometimes you just need wmp10 to do the job, like wmv streaming. I'm not sure TCPMP support that.
But of course wmp10 can go full screen if the original video size is bigger than 640x480.
I find that WMP gives better sound quality (and slightly more volume) than TCPMP when listening through headphones.
Good as TCPMP is, if WMP would play videos properly I would uninstall TCPMP and use the space for something else instead. Is anyone looking at a hack to get WMP working properly?

In other words WMP is working fine with videos over 640x480 - thats good news - will try it later.

Full screen video - iplayer files

Hi
I have searched around a bit & not found an answer to this, although others have reported the same issue (with different files).
I want to view iplayer (BBC) videos in full screen, but played through Windows Media they are reduced to about 3/4 of the screen & slightly choppy. I can cope with the choppy (although I don't see why it is) but I want to scale up the video to fit the screen, otherwise what is the point of this resolution.
Are there any options ?
This is the same behaviour on stock 6.1 OS & a cooked 6.5 OS.
Yeh i've got the same issue.
I mean what's all this about - i don't understand why the quality is so bad on the iplayer mobile website; surely the iplayer applications on the iphone, some nokias phones etc are of good quality?
I haven't actually done anything to my the rom on my xperia and i only got it a couple of weeks ago, but i'm looking to possibly flashing 6.5 to the device in the future providing i find a good version of it(as i have no clue where to start) . As well as this i've only just been able to get onto the iplayer mobile website as my xperia wasn't recognised as a supported device by the website and it turns out the user agent in opera was blank for some reason
with my current setup, iplayer appears really small when streaming is first started and when put into fullscreen mode only fills about 3/4 of the screen with a border of black as well as the picture being really badly pixelated. There's got to be some better alternative to this, maybe a third party app perhaps which can do better quality. I hope the bbc improve on this at some point because this is a real disapointment
have you got a fix on this at all?
(i know and it's proper jarring when people don't reply to your threads)
The bbc have to get a stream which will connect over slow speeds to mobiles with small screens. Whereas the X1 has one of the biggest screens (in terms of pixels) on the market. This is why it looks crap on the X1.
Instead of streaming you could try "sideloading" and download the mobile version of the file from the iPlayer website first and copying it across to the phone.
Or use the iPlayer Downloader which will get the iPhone version as an MP4 for you to copy across.
