Band Selector Tool for MDA - where to download? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi, as of my previous post, I have the problem with the 1800 MHz band. I saw a nice tool part of a rom in Jeffs kitchen, where you can select the band you need. Anyone an idea where I can download the tool seperatly? Thanks for the help , Matt

Interesting Problem - 900/1800 band in Europe SOLVED

Hi, I have a T-Mobile MDA with the T-Mobile Rom 4.00.10 ENG in Austria/Europe. Radio Version 4.21.00 of O2 Germany. And use a network operator in Austria (Telering) operating on 1800 MHz.
Here is what happened. Everything was perfectly fine, until I did all the "official updates" of T-Mobile (OS+radio) which wrecked my MDA. After really getting into the subject and 5 cooked roms at jeffs kitchen and SD bios replacements, I finally got the thing working again. I am using the combination in the first line (o2 + Tmobile) which "kind of" works fine. Here is the deal: Using operator A1 (900MHZ) everything is perfectly fine. Using Telering (1800MHZ) everything seems fine for about 30 minutes, then the signal indicator still says there is a connection, the green light blinks, BUT if you make a call it fails with not available, or if someone phones me he gets to the voicemail. Interestingly I figured out that under PHONE/BAND options only 900/1900 is available, while non is selected. THE ROM I USED IS the T-Mobile GERMANY rom. I also used the band selector method in the bootloader to select 1800 MHZ which i need. It is obvious that the system operates on that band, as I do have a connection, but it drops it. Any ideas? Thanks a million guys, Matt
Interesting Problem - 900/1800 and 1900 Band in Europe
Found out some more... The official T-Mobile update on the Tmobile website in Germany actually includes TWO different nbf files. It checks what you have installed. Number one is a English 4.x version Number two is a german 3.16.45 version.
Again, I still encounter the problem on 1800 MHz, any ideas?
Solved
hi, as it seems, using the original german 3.x bios of their germany website (not the english nbf which is also included in the file) also the 1800 MHz band works perfectly fine. No matter which 4.x version I use I encounter the problem (e.g. from the german O2 website, Jeffs Kitchen and so on). It does not seem to be a radio problem (now I use the latest of the german o2 website) but the interaction with the main OS. So no 4.x version for me here in Austria on 1800Mhz. If anyone ever solves this issue or has a MDA on 1800 Mhz running with a 4.x OS please let me know via PM. Thanks everyone. Logging off. M
where did you get the phone from ?
T-mobile USA or T-mobile Germany ?
T-mibile USA Pocket PC phone is GSM 900/1900 phone, so you cannot work on GSM 1800!
Hi, it was a mobile of TMOBILE GERMANY. And as such a 900/1800MHz phone. So this is why it actually works on the 1800Mhz band. Havind said that with the German T-Mobile Rom of the german website using the SECOND NBF, which is in english, you get a rom which seems to be for the US, as it is a version 4.x (not for resale, test only) and showing 900/1900 Mhz in the band options....
Strange though that this flash is offered to the European customers, cause if you have a english rom underneath it will automatically install this english version.
Anyway, I switched to the german version using bootloader and everthing is fine now. Still use the O2 radio stack.
USA At&t is PW10A and work on 1800Mhz
I bought a Sx56 as aAt&t unlocked phone, now I need to change it to bandwidth 1800Mhz that we use in Brazil. I read in this forum model PW10A works in 900/1800mhz I think I just need to use the right BIOS, anyone here knows what bios I should use? Thanks.

more help with xda

hello again folks ...
want to say thanks again for all the help so far .. upgrade went well ..
i went from :
rom version: 3.14.17 ENG
rom date: 10/11/02
radio version : 4.17
to the upgrade :
rom version: 3.17.03 ENG
rom date: 5/15/03
radio version : 4.17
courtesy of www.yorch.net 8)
it was fairly painless ... however the phone still can not pick up a signal ..
also note with upgrade i have been able to switch GSM band from 900/1800 to 900 or 1900 successfully.. but, still can not find t-mobile US as a default setting ...
perhaps i should have cooked and installed one of the following upgrades ? :?
4.00.10 ENG T-Mobile US
or
4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US
i was hesitant because it indicates once the above mentioned ROM is installed you can not switch to any other ROM using programme A .
my device model no. PW10A1
does this apply to me?
or perhaps i need to udate the radio stack ?? any direction would be great .. thanks again folks !
jason
use 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US then once loaded onto xda go into the bootloader (hold power button down while soft restting) then press the calendar (right hand) button and set it to 900/1900mhz
then wait for it to do what it has to do then softreset again.....
then load the phone up with sim in go into phone then options and click on the band tab and select 1900mhz
softrest after if it doesnt pick up signal after then the aversions are not kinda tri band but if it does post up then we will know the answer for deffinate thing is though the radio version is built for 900/1800 not 900/1900 so i dont think itll work but you can try
my device model no. PW10A1
does this apply to me?

If the H/W of the device is A type then it's 900/1800. So, unless you have a 900 MHz signal it will not work. Switching the band from phone settings will have no effect unless with proper H/W and RSU version.
ok fellas ...
i went from :
rom version: 3.17.03 ENG
rom date: 5/15/03
radio version : 4.17
to the upgrade :
rom version: 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US
rom date: 7/10/03
radio version : 4.17.00
courtesy of www.yorch.net
however the phone still can not pick up a signal ..
with upgrade i have not been able to switch GSM band from 900/1800 to 900 or 1900 successfully through the wallaby bootloader (after changes are made i can not get out of bootloader without doing a hard reset) :? also note the xda developers band switch tool is also present but reads error :?
also note :!:
before the upgrade
my device model no. PW10A1
after upgrade
my device model no. PW10B1
not sure if im getting any closer to the solution but im still happy at this point i havent burned up the unit ...
perhaps it is still an issue of the radio version 4.17.00 (which is the only thing i havent fooled with yet)
any thoughts on trying the radio upgrades from www.yorch.net (under upgrades) ??
if this doesnt kill me it will surely make me stronger ... i will throw a party with beer for everyone if we can get this turkey running !!
thanks again folks !
If you can read a B type on your device that means your H/W supports 900/1900 MHz. To be more sure, check the avaialble options at the GSM menu from the boot loader (Power + soft reset then Calendar button).
If it does have the 1900 MHz option, I would recommend to go for a full upgrade using the latest TMO ROM 4.01.00. It contains RSU 6.24.01 and it works perfectly well for me tho I have 900/1800 network.
Here is the link: ftp://tmobile:[email protected]:21
Be careful and good luck ...
It may be important to note at this point that the OS ROM version really doesn't have much to do with whether or not the phone gets a signal. XDA I is either 900/1800 (PW10A) or 900/1900 (PW10B). (Please note that this model number should be taken from the sticker on the back, not from what the OS says it is.)
If you have a 900/1800 phone, it will not do 900/1900, and vice-versa. Exceptions are said to exist, probably in places where a 1900 provider is really low in the band (or an 1800 provider really high), but this is not recommended and unlikely to work very well.
Band switching is done manually with an extra tab in the Phone Options page between 900 and 1900 in US ROMs, or automatically between 900/1800 in all others. There is also a band-switch in the bootloader, which always offers all possibilities (900, 1900, and 900/1800). After selecting the correct band for your phone, you may need to hard-reset with the SIM removed a few times before the phone 'understands' it is to use another band.
If you want a tri-band phone, get an XDA II. The XDA II by the way comes with vastly improved radio performance. Unlike the original XDA, I can use it in areas with not-so-great coverage.
>any thoughts on trying the radio upgrades from www.yorch.net (under >upgrades) ??
Yeap you're needed of a Radio Stack upgrade, as you have seen 4.17 won't work in the US. So I suggest you upgrade to the AT&T or the T-Mobile stack.

ROM: 4.01.00 ENG

i would love to try this upgrade ...
can anyone tell me where i could download it? :?
thanks

Thx Peter Poelman so much for this great info, but my original Qtek 1010 never showed the 1900 Mhz option in the boot loader menu and it was PW10A.
Now as I replaced the main board with a one taken from a used TMO device it shows the 1900 option both in the GSM menu and in the phone settings in ROM (I 'm using 4.01.00 now) and the device type is PW10B
Does that mean that the GSM menu shows only what the device H/W can actually support, or it's part of the RSU file contents which may give a fake option of the 1900 MHz ?
Thanks again for correcting our info

The sticker on the back (and nothing else) tells it all:
PW10A = 900/1800
PW10B = 900/1900
is this upgrade available from yorch ? if so ... where ..?? cant find it anywhere on the site ..
thanks

You need to use a program like CuteFTP or WS_FTP LE
CuteFTP can be found at:

also note ... unit is an o2 from singapore .. i am in the US trying to access the Tmobile network ... originally it was PW10A .. after the second rom upgrade .. it switched to PW10B ... and also appears to have all 3 bands available from the bootloader .. after 3rd upgrade/downgrade to
rom 4.01.00 eng
radio 6.24.01
still appears to be PW10B1
it is searching for a signal
thoughts anyone? :?
It might be your SIM card so try it in another phone and if it works.

GSM band automatically selected?

I cooked a ROM kitchen version of WM2003 back in November 2003.
I have ROM 4.00.11eng and Radio 6.18.00
Before I upgraded, my device automatically selected the correct band 900 or 1900 when I travelled throughout Asia.
On this recent trip, the first since the upgrade, the phone didn't autoselect.
I had to go in to bootloader and manually select 900 mhz. There was a choice for 900/1800 as one selection, but not 900/1900?
What I didn't know, and I want to warn everyone is that this HARD RESET my device. I had an SD backup so was okay. I then had to do a bootloader selection for 1900mhz when returning to the US.
My question is, isn't the ROM supposed to auto select bands? If not, does the newest version of WM2003 ROM autoselect bands?
I think T-mobile ROMs doesn't do this auto selection and that's why it has this "band" tab in the phone settings.
A30.09 doesn't have this tab, so I assume it does this auto selection but assuming as well that you have their RSU as well.
I tried A30.09 ROM with T6.24.01 RSU and it gave me 900 MHz without the need to go to the GSM band switching (my network is 900/1800), but I didn't try travelling to US to see whether it will auto switch or not.

SX 56 change frequencies on xda rom

Can't switch frequencies to 1900 to use phone in central US. I push 1900 and it says error and goes back to 900 which does me no good.
What can I do?
What RSU version ?
Do you do this in phone settings or GSM band switcher in boot loader ?
Change Frequencies
Not sure what you mean by RSU, but I have the XDA special edition rom 3.17.03 eng and I am doing it in the phone, I don't how to start bootloader. Thanks.
RSU stands for the Radio Stack of the device (the phone thing) ... you can read it in device info ... and if it doesn't support 1900 MHz then it's useless to try it from the phone settings.
Also, your device must be PW10B to work in 1900 .. check the rear sticker
you can start the boot loader by pressing and holding power while soft reset ... then press calendar button to go in the GSM menu.
Got into the bootloader and set to 1900. I have a PW10B1, but device info says I have a PW10A1. Why is this. The phone will now pick up a signal on 1900 but the reception is poor. Looses signal where it used to have a signal.
Radio Version is A.33.02
ROM Version is 3.17.03
Do I need to get a different ROM to get it to match a PW10B1?
Also, can I put my old ROM back on? I have it on disc? Tried to reload from Siemens site and it said I could not load on to this device.
Thanks, you have been very helpful!
It seems you used the 3.17 ROM to unlock ... what was the original ROM ?
well, I 'm the last one to advice on RSU flashing ... it's risky unless really really necessary ... check with your friends in the same area on the best RSU ... ROM doesn't make any difference.
If ok, I would recommend ROM 4.01.00 with RSU 6.25.02 ... you can cook the ROM in the kitchen but leave the RSU action as a last option
Original ROM A30.09 ENG
Radio A33.02
Since last post I figured out how to use XDA tools to get Siemens upgrade ROM back on and now every thing seems to be fine and unlocked which is what I originally wanted to use with Cingular sim. I will have to roam on ATT to use this but is OK since I have free roaming.
If I have any more problems, I will post again.
Thanks!

how to go back to 900/1800 (which rom?)

After upgrading to t-mobile rom gsm module was working until I hit the "band" tab from phone menu. of course what happened I realized after reading posts from forum.
Now, I need help how to go back to 900/1800 frequency (Poland) - which rom to use, where to download it or how to change to these frequencies.
help pls.
for 900/1800 use v. 4.00.01, 4.00.05 , 4.00.11 for upgrade to WM2003
(v.4.01 & 4.05 you can up/downgrade by program setup)
you can switch it on the bootloader !!!
