Ringer Volume in PPC 2003 - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has noticed the lack of volume when switching from PPC 2002 to 2003.
Do any of the guru's have a patch/fix/workaround to get the ringer back to it's Earth-rattling volume so I can hear it when I'm standing next to a freight train? I've missed a many of calls simply because I did not hear the phone ring.
I'm currently using old-phone as it's the loudest one I could find (plus I like the strange looks I get when it does ring).
Thanks for any feedback.

I'm also using the old-phone tone/ring for the same reasons.

Could you please post up the old ringer wav? Thanks.

here you have the Oldphone Ring.....

Speaker call not loud

on a I-mate jam it's possible to turn on speaker while calling so you can speak "handsfree".
This can be done by holding down the green call button.
When I do this the sounds of the speaker is de same as normal only the sounds comes from the back of the phone instead of the front.
Does anybody know how to fix this? A friend of mine has the same phone without a problem.

Have you tried while you are on the speakerphone mode to make the volume slider higher?
That ain't gonna help you. This is a known - and unsolved problem with the Jam. If you really need a speakerphone, you should return the phone. No amount of firmware/ROM update will help you.
I use the speakerphone option without any problems. The sound is loud and clear. What is this unresolved JAM problem that you're talking about?
Jam speakerphone volume problem
My XDA1 had the best speakerphone I've ever used, including corded phones. I could be in a conferance room with 10 people around the table and everyone could hear, speak and the participate on the phone never had problems with background noise. I have a hard time accepting that next generation technology from the same manufacturer should be woefully inadequate. The unit is advertised as a speakerphone, the solution is to return my phone and purchase another? No thanks friend, anyone reading this with solutions please respond.
I only have the phone for 1 month now so I´ll return it
tnx for the help
I think most of us don't know how to hold the mini in the right way, while the phone is in speaker mode...
if u want to hear a load voice.. make sure that back of the phone faces ur ear..
that' because the mini has 2 speakers... and the one in the back( near the mirror) is loader.. so you will hear the conversation very well...
and BTY.. I suggest u upgrade to the latest ROM available for ur device..
it helped me a lot....
cheers

Wrong - its patently obvious that the sound is coming from from the back speaker. Why on earth it comes frm the back is another question entirely, given that the speaker phone is supposed to free up your hands so you do other things, including multi-task on the device i.e looking at the screen! Every other phone I've had has a decent speakerphone - and they face the front too.
But the main problem is that the volume from the supposed "speakerphone" is too damn low, irregardless of location.
Considering all the huge volumes of prior experience that HTC has (making practically every Microsoft PPC device, smartphones, plus the Palm Treo phone), things like this awful speakerphone on the magician are really not excusable at all.
I went through 3 TREO 600s due to speaker problems. You could barely hear the speaker phone on the 600 either. ANd to top that off, no one could hear you! The JAM is nice, but the more that I use it, the more I wish that either I bought something else or that the the JAM could just work the way it was designed!!!!!!
1.3 Mega pixel camera... my ass! It's the same quality as my first Casio digital camera from '96. Not mention the fact that Imate can't even put a decent ROM update together.
Perhaps we should build our own PPC's!
P.S. PM me if you want the CEO and VP of Imate's e-mail address. I e-mailed them and they actually wrote back! -Of course they weren't very helpful though.
One time, I turned on this speakermode operation on my MDA-Compact, I could hear my phonecall loud and clear from the built-in speaker.... This happenend accidently, probably by pressing just the right button, but I wasn't aware....
I cannot find how to do this again? How can I get the MDA-Compact to operate in speakermode using the built-in speaker?
I'm searching this (and other forums) quite a while now, but I cannot find my solution?!
Any help will be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Igor.

I updated my Jam and now it's all ok

HTC Universal Design Flaw - Speaker still rings with headset

I am using a Dopod 900. Would like to check if this is a localised model problem, or a HTC Universal design flaw.
When you plug in the earpiece, does the speakers still ring with an incoming call?
For the record, mine does, and it is very annoying, as when I plug in my earpiece, it is for the phone to stay silent and not to disturb people with ringtones (like in a library).
Don't suppose there is any workarounds to the problem besides completely muting the phone volume?
Just my opinion, I think most handphones still ring even when we plug in the headset to let owners know someone is calling, unless we set them to vibrate.
i don't think it's a design flaw .... all the mobile phones i've been using whether nokias, motorolas, sony ericssons (even the p900 and p910) and my HTC devices do the same thing ..... they will ring nonetheless if you have the wired earpiece or not unless you change the profiles ... you can customize the profiles on the Universal and any Windows Mobile device to your liking ...
FYI

I've got a HTC Wizard. This device has the same 'problem' you're discribing.
The solution on the Wizard was to change to following registry key:
\\registry\HKCU\Control Panel\SoundCategories\Ring\Speaker to 0. It worked on the Wizard! Not sure if it wil work on the Universal! But let me know if it was succesful!

What profiles?
Where do you find the settings and what can you change?
thats not a problem every phone does that. if you don't want your phone to ring with a headset install, set the ringer to silent. doing that will make it only ring on the headset.
the logical reason why a phone would ring with the headset in is because not everyone keeps there headset on when they're not on the phone. so you'd never no when your phone is ringing if you took your headset off.

Is a repeat audible in-call timer available? or can it be made?

Hi,
Is there any application that will allow me to set a repeat audible alarm that notifies you every X minutes whilst your on the call?
For clarification, the type of beep/tone im looking for is similar to a call waiting beep that you hear when on a call, its un-obtrusive. It's built into my Motorola A1000 (also on SE P900 etc) which uses the Symbian OS and is in the 'Call tracking' menu listed as Audible Timer where you can nominate the time ie 3minutes and then theres a check box to have the audible timer repeat over and over whilst you are on the call.
Its a great feature that i would love to have on a WM6 PPC PE.
Phone Alarm does not do this.
Nice Idea
It Does Seem like a nice Idea.
Could definitely use a application like that.
I'm sure it can be made, if anint already there...
you could also make this request on the pocketmax.net forum. they made the phoneAlarm and Redial (freeware) applications, so I guess it would be very easy for them to include it in one of theire apps.
I was talking to Bruce Jackson from PocketMax back in september about this but he said they couldnt do it because Windows Mobile use 2 separate audio channels, one for the earpiece and the other speaker phone (which is what phone Alarm uses)
I still think is should be possible, seeing that other 'audible in-call tones' like 'call waiting', 'new message tones' as well as 'increase volume beeps' all happen in the ear piece when your on a call.
Who has experience or knows of software that can modify these tones. Thats who would have a better idea how this can be achieved!
I guess having a vibration every minute would thus be very easy to do for Bruce Jackson from PocketMax. I can understand the phone ear loudspeaker is very hard to obtain (I remember recording from this is also impossible for the Wizard since the channels are hardware separated), so a vibration would be better than nothing.
Anyone knows a solution for having audible in-call timer like motorola phones.
Any advance in development community between 2007 and 2009?
Thank you for your answer
I would really want one, its really painful for the entire call just because of that single second.

Ringtone Volume issue - 2% and still 'LOUD'

Hi all,
This is an issue which has been semi bugging me since getting my Touch HD a few months ago.
If I use Touchflo and go into settings for the ring volume, I put the slider right down to '2%'. When a call comes in, it's still very loud indeed.
I've tested so that if I put the volume up to say 80% and call in again, its VERY very loud!
I want it that I can leave my ringer on say 5% or 10% when I'm working so that I can hear the ring tone but not disturb other's who maybe close by.
Also, upon testing, if I change the ring tone type, then when it 'preview plays' the ringtone its nice and quiet, kind of at the level I'd like it to ring. However, when then selecting the ringtone and clicking done, I test with an incoming call and it's much louder.
Am I missing something here? I've never had this issue with any of my previous Xda's/HTC phones.
I had a look in search but nothing seems to show up like this from other posters - could my handset be faulty?
Or, do I need to buy some software which controls this better and offers more profiles than just the 4 standard ones?
Any ideas out there please?!
Cheers! Dennis, West London UK!
I think the volume setting goes by an incremental of 20%. Yeah, at the lowest 20%, it is still quite loud. The default Innovation ring is excessive loud. You can try another one which is not as disturbing at 20% setting
Hi there,
Thanks for the response!
Yes, I had the 'innovation' ringtone set and have now changed it to generic 3 which is 'better' !
Is there any software out there specifically for ringtone generation? maybe I could create ringtones and record them at a 'lower recording level' to acheive a 'low' sounding ringtone on the THD without this 'limitation' I pointed out/experience?
having done a search, I can't quite beleive I'm the only one who seems to have noticed this!
Might have to find those 'funny' ringtones - the Brad Pitt Snatch dialogue " why the **** would i wanna caravan with no ****ing wheels' being my favourite !
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!
Your not the only one who has this problem. There is a other thread about the music player and the volume there, but the whole TF3D volume is just way too high . Annoys me aswell

Call sound: great, but volume very high

Hi all,
The call quality of the HD2 is very good. Reception is great, people understand me very well and I can understand them very good.
My only problem is that the sound is so loud, when I'm using my phone at my ear (so without speaker or bluetooth).
Do you have this as well? Is there somewhere a master volume that can be set?
To be clear: the volume is already at the minimum...
Thanks!
Koen
Does the earpiece speaker also pop/crackle somtimes when the tones are high or very loud? I hear a ticking in the earpiece speaker.. that is very anoying!
Will probably swap my device for a new one.
Not really.
But as I find it now too loud, I don't like to use to make normal phonecalls.
Koen
I have the same problem..
One weird thing though, it's only on outgoing calls, incoming the sound isnt too loud!
i had the same problem but only with outgoing calls an mine sounded terrible, still does( think my speaker is broken)
You can edit the registry.
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2, i think one is ingoing and one is outgoing calls.
Edit Initvol, i have both mine on 2 now. and the volume is much better!

Thanks, now it's great!!!
I've got the exact same thing!
The quality is great, but sometimes the volume is just way too loud, almost up to the point where it hurts my ear.
One additional thing is when I get a notification on the background that a message has arrived during one of those loud calls, volume actually switches back to normal.
In my registry incall2 was set to 5. Resetted it to 2, hope it works
could anyone clarify
Where can I find that
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2 thing. Please help! How do I enter registry?

Not sure if I did a soft-reset, but you might just give it a shot.
Both outgoing and incoming call volumes are now fine on my device...
[edit]
Actually got another loud outgoing call..
When I took a better look at the inCall and inCall2 properties, they seem to be for the notifications you get when you're in a call.
So changing them to '2' is OK, but doesn't actually solve this issue.
It may be an explanation to why my sound swapped back to normal after receiving a notification though.

Tried a soft reset too, but my ears still hurt! Any other suggestions?
This is totally unacceptable, has nobody got a cure for this? I can't use my *phone* as a phone, the volume is deafening! Both speakerphone and earpiece are way too loud, even on the lowest volume setting.
try this one
Here's a solution : you need to use the Schapman advanced configuration tool v3.3 (freeware).
Go to "HTC audio manager" -> set "music volume" (or something close, I don't know of it is labelled in english, I only have the french version) to 30 or above (below 100, which is the maximum) and then soft reset your device.

I can't seem to get this to do the trick. Is there anyone out there who has used a program to specifically lower the earpiece and speakerphone volume on their HD2 'Leo'? I'm going to have to return my handset if I can't lower the volume. I love the phone but if I can't make calls on it it's useless!
*bump*
This needs keeping near the top as it's a MASSIVE problem. Doesn't *everyone* find their HD2 far too loud??
It happened to me only once, when I woke up, press power button to get the screen on and dialed a cab, it was way too much loud.
Today I made some calls, received them as well, and it was ok.

Does anyone have a link to the part of the site where these supposed hotfixes will be....and how long will they be coming, any ideas? So far it's the speakerphone & earpiece volume which are of the utmost importance for me, then the pink camera etc etc etc.
