in jeff's kitchen it's mentioned next to the 4.00.10 an 16 roms that u can write a new rom to your sd-card for bootloading "usind the sd-card slot in the device"
is that true? from what i found in the forum u need a sd-card adapter. or is there a way for XDArit or any other software to get the rom onto the sd-card without having to use an adapter (which i dont have right now)
 thx!!!
Just use the cradle the phone comes with and connect with ActiveSync. Then you just go into Windows Explorer on your PC and you can copy and paste to the device just like on your PC.
really? but XDArit only recognizes the hard disk, not the XDA on USB as a drive. So I dont see a chance to create a rom image and write it to the SD card. 'And writing it first to my harddisk would screw the disk, right??
use XDATools...it can do that
ok, sorry for not realizing that in the first place. I never noticed there there is a new tool. :?
thanks!!

Here's the situation:
Siemens SX56. (AT&T) (wanting to use w/T-Mobile)
2 days ago, I updated the SX56 ROM with the 1.1 update from the Siemens website, via USB.
Successful. No problems.
Yesterday, I tried to load the great XDA 1.1 ROM.
Began the update via USB, ActiveSync,
then I 'lost connection' about a minute or 2 into the update.
I'm unable to re-establish connection.
Now, the SX56 is hung on "Upgrading..this may take 5 min...."
I have concluded that I must use an SD card now.
I have an SD card.
I have Wallaby Bootloader v5.15
I don't think it will do me any good to copy the CE+BOOT TO SD,
since it doesn't work.
My PC experience tells me to:
1. Format the SD card, and make it bootable.
2. Put the file XDArit.exe on the SD card.
2. Put the files from the XDA 1.1 ROM on the SD card.
3. Boot the SX-56 to the SD Card.
4. Launch XDArit.exe OR start.bat.
BUT, as I've discovered, this isn't a PC.
And also, it seems like the instructions on the Wallaby Bootloader
are geared for making a backup, and like an idiot, I did not make a backup before starting.
And when I have tried to run the XDArit from my PC, it finds the SD card,
and wants a NB1 file, (and I have to change file type to a NBF file, because I don't have a NB1 file)
but when I try to save it to the SD card, I get an error 'Failed to open device'. (but my XP machine sees, reads and writes to the SD card from explorer just fine.)
If anyone could help me shift my 'PC' thinking into the XDA way of thinking, I would be most thankful. What am I missing here?
Thank you very much!
u should read carefully other thread linked this prob,
u dont need to rename nbf to nb1, just using xdarit to write sd card, use nbf file in wince box and/or bootloader (think dont need to overwrite the bootloader), go to boatloader n choose restore SD
before doing that, batt must full
Can someone hook a brother up.
Does anyone know where I can get info as well as the software on upgrading my Siemens SX56 on AT&T USA to PocketPC 2003. I have already done the radio upgrade from Siemens site and would like to get some of the capabilities of PPC2003.
Thanx
Yea you can get it here:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/
http://www.xs4all.nl/~jsummers/XDA/
Then use my Qman's how to use XDArit to write ppc2003pe.nb1 to your SD card!
1. Place XDArit and the ppc2003pe.nb1 file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
4. Note that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
5. Select the ppc2003pe.nb1 image and then Open
Notice that ppc2003pe.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it
that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset.
It will ask you if you want to download the image, select yes and it will start restoring from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Reset".
BTW the above is based on using XDArit version 1.0 which can be download from the software section at:
http://www.yorch.net and a PCI USB 3-One Travel Flash reader P/N FPT-D bought at Fry's.
Oh yea before you do the upgrade note all of your GPRS connection settings because you'll have to manually put them back.
So, I am not able to transfer the file to the SD card with it in the Siemens device and in the Sync cradle?
Just want to make sure about that.
Thanks,
Savi
Never mind. I already figured out that I can not see the SD Card as a drive.
I am attempting to use the XDA Rom image Tool to write a rom on to my SD card but I keep getting the error message "Failed to open device \\.\physicaldrive11.
My sd card reader is a dazzle high speed usb reader & writer.
Don't do it with XDARit until the new version is released. It looks like you have several logical drives on single physical hard disks. Am I correct? If you use XDARit, you might end up writing over a partition table of a Harddrive.
Best to use XDARit when you have a single Drive C, 1 or more CDRoms, and no other devices except your SD reader.
Wade
you may try it now actually, just haven't officially released it yet, and it may get more documentation.
tell me what you think of it:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/OsImageTool.html
it does less than xdarit, but does it faster, and probably safer, with less risk of destroying other disks.
I am trying it. I am trying to use the Device Memory as the source and then for the Destination, I am trying to use the File Selector to select Test.nb1 as the Destination. It says, Test.nb1 , File Not Found. Please verify that the correct Filename was given.
I then created an empty text file and renamed it to Test.nb1. Then I retried. It liked it since the File existed.
Then I had a sense of foreboding and I canceled everything, fearing that I might be trying to flash my device with an empty file if things went wrong.
So I am hoping to get a warmer fuzzy before trying it.
PS. I did try and flash my SD with an NK.nbf and it worked great.
Wade
Did it!
I used the USB reader on a machine with a single hard drive and cd rom and it worked great.
Thanks for the advice wbalzer.
I think it suffers the same shortcoming as pnewbootloader, that it needs
pput.exe.
I added it to the archive now.
if you select 'device memory' as a destination, it will start "programme a"
so you will have plenty of opportunities to click cancel, if you didn't mean
to do so.
I was trying to install ROM update from http://www.yorch.net/
But (( I was waiting 60 min when installation finished.....and my Phone is doen't work...I can't used it, i can't turn it on ...there is only screen

Misters Proffesionals, if I didn't backup my previuos ROM what can I do?
-----------------------------
OK, here's what you do:
Get these tools and an SD-card reader for your PC (either as an SD-card or as a USB device). Use them to write the NK.nbf file contained in your upgrade package to an SD-card (64 MB or larger, all data will be erased). Then insert the SD-card in the device and put the device in 'bootloader mode' by holding the power button while soft-resetting. When prompted to press 'Action', press the center of the rocker keys. Wait for flashing process to finish. Cold boot (small hole). Presto.

Why are you running 'fixbootloader'? That's for people that have a running WinCE and no bootloader anymore, or for people that wnat to get rid of their 5.17 bootloader. This is not your problem.
You need to write the OS image to a card using OSImageTool, selecting the .nbf or .nb1 file as the source, and the SD-card as the destination. You can only use an SD-card reader attached directly to the PC, you cannot use the one in your XDA because the OS isn't running there.
...Hmm
When I triyng run this app [OSImageTool] I got error message [see scrennshots].
I already create from Yochi nb1 file, if I put this file on SD card and then put SD card into my Pocket PC, then make reset it helps???

Trying
Ok I put NB file to SD using this application....what next?
I am confused...
So I got Card Reader and SD card for 128 MB
I put NBF file using application XDAtools-Jeff Image on SD card,
than put SD card inside Pocket PC, made soft reset and........
Everytnig the same nothing happened.......
I still have the same [image see first image on topic]
Also If i am using this tools I can't access to Device using Active Sync....
so see my screenshoots......
It's not that difficult JUST READ

Tuurtje
Insert your SD Card into your device and reset (soft reset while holding down the Power button) to enter your Bootloader.
When you do this, the Bootloader will automatically detect that you have a CE ROM in your SD Card and will ask you to press the Action button to flash the device with this ROM. Press the Action button and wait for the flashing process to complete.
That link to zensay.com doesn't work anymore
What was that link for ? All it says is that the QTEK site is closed indefinitely.
Hi guys,
i got problem with writing on my card...when i transfer directy on my card hapens that i cant open or use files, i have tryed to transfer directly on phone memory and i dont have that problem...files are working good...
anyone got solution?

Hi!
Q: Is this affecting every file transferred to the SD card, or just some?
Also, have you still got your phone connected to the PC? Your HD can't read the SD card while the phone is plugged into the USB port. (not sure about bluetooth, since i don't use it) If you open the file manager you will see that the storage device disappears when the phone is plugged into the computer.
well i think i fix it man...format few times my card... with win xp , i have put 1 of new roms and problem solved for now,
otherwise i wass geting problems with diferent kind of files...pictures, mp3s...zip files, w/e and they exist on card but after i try to open, says corupted...
I got same problem.
Moreover, I can't see the µSD card when I plug it into PC !
How do we format the card with PPC ?
---------------------
Edit : solution found : downloaded st.ppc420.arm.cab (storage tool), and suceeded formating my SD card !
Now everything works again : I can use my HD like a USB key again.
well, i use card reader...and on right click u can do that, i hope your card is not dead
well i tho i solved this problem...till now ocurs again, onestly dont know whats the problem...now i got 6.5 mobile, basicly im geting this problem when i try to transfer large files and large zip files like up to 100meg.
