Unlocking a XDA running WM 2003, can it be done. - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi All,
After just having moved home from London back to Australia, i've found that i forgot to unlock my wonderful XDA, as i'm now running 2003 & don't have access to broadband just yet i'd rather avoid downloading the 1.2 ROM & 2003 rom to downgrade, unlock & then upgrade again.
Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

i'd recomend a net cafe with a nice connection, or a friend with a workplace that doesn't control its network to strictly

Thanks, silly me forgot the unlock runs on boot of the special rom, hence my device was unlocked without me knowing.
To the XDA developers, thanks, you've helped me even when i didn't know it yet
Cheers

XDAunlock: Unlocking without serial cable

XDAunlock needs no serial cable
You can now use XDAunlock to remove the SIMlock from phones with the latest ROMs (Qtek or XDA-developers Special Edition ROM).
Users that install the Special Edition ROM do not need to download since XDAunlock is included and ran at cold-boot. Users of Qtek 3.16.52 ROM click here.
Using XDAunlock you can also view the SIMlock code or re-lock your phone (using command-line arguments).
[I attached the EXE for easy downloading. Works on any 3.x ROM that has wmodem.exe]
Excellent work! True brilliance
I'll be testing this real soon. All I have to do is find a unix box....or will linux do aswell?
Chiani
a windows box with http://www.cygwin.com/ unix tools will do too.
make sure you select perl and bash in the cygwin setup tool.
xda unlock
i have recently downloaded the xdaunlock.exe and transfered it to my xda but an error occured.
the error message was: "error getting unlock code"
could this happen because i have the german version or where can i find a data which is working on my german xda.
Or is it enough only to change the language
It says on the page: XDAunlock only works if you upgrade to a ROM which also has the Wireless Modem feature. Presently, this is either the new O2 English ROM, the latest Qtek ROM, or our own XDA-developers ROM, of shich a new version is due out later today. Given the number of irritating issues some people are experiencing, you may want to wait for the new one, which will fix all these issues.
Special Edition ROM now official unlocking method
I've updated the Manipulator page to say that we no longer advise anyone to download The Manipulator unless they already have a serial cable and need to reset call counters or change IMEI on pre 4.20 phones.
Installing the Special Edition ROM is the preferred method for unlocking from now on. Sell your XDA serial cable company stocks today.
Just use this excellent proggy with my XDA which was locked to O2 took 2 seconds to unlock with just this proggy and its now unlocked to all networks, GREAT JOB Guys thx

Great, I love detailed error reports.
Avri: I think the moderator of your forum has already contacted us. If you're the same person, you probably have 'no signal', right?
If so: did you mess with the 'GSM band' tool under 'Programs'? If you did, just set it 900/1800, possibly soft-reset your phone afterwards (stick the stylus in the big hole on the bottom left) and you should be fine. Let us know if that is not it, or if you're a different person altogether. But please, please, please, do not come back saying:
It still doesn't work. Please help.

Instead: provide detailed descriptions of why and how precisely "it doesn't work".

but I still get NO SIGNAL.
I wroth before that I have T-Mobile PW10B1 model.

If the provider you're trying to connect to is on 1800, chances are things will not work. Major consensus narrative at this time is that at least the filtering for this phone is not set to a wide-enough range to make it a true tri-band phone, even if it might work in some sporadic cases.

simple onlocking process
WARNING THICKO ALERT!!. I am referring to myself here I have looked at the various postings on unlocking but cant seem to get my head round what is required to unlock my XDA. I have just received a second hand O2 locked 32MB XDA it came with two USB cradles and all the other stuff. Can anyone please tell me is there a simple way to have it unlocked without sending it off. There are many references to the unlocking progam on here but no direct link to it. I would like to be sure that the unlocking process is simple and relativley risk free can anyone offer any help maybe an already created ROM or whatever it is that is required? If the file is largish please send it to [email protected] this is my broadband email address and can accept large files.
Cheers Sean
*nix (or cygwin) is needed when you want to build your own rom, using our mkrom tools.
you can find xdaunlock here. you will need a relatively new rom ( which includes wmodem.exe ) to run it. either 3.17 qtek, or our own Special edition ROM
Re: Thicko Alert: I managed to download the unlocling software and hey presto its unlocked.!!So yes the thicko was apt all I had to do was read the item fully.
Now for another question. Can anyone suggest a suitable method of connecting to the net using my unlocked xda. I dont need to worry about phone costs (long story) so as long as the dial up is a UK one with no out of country prefixes I should be able to get online free?
Unlocking Siemens SX56 ATT US
I have an At&t siemens sx56 that Im trying to get to work on vodaphone in Germany. I've tried the XDA Unlock program, but it won't work because I don't have the latest ROM. I'm not sure what to do from here, especially because I use it with a mac and the PocketMac software, so I can't use a serial cable. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes: simply back up everything and install the XDA-developers Special Edition ROM. It will unlock your device and make it cooler.

use of xda in New Zealand

Hi
I have just moved to New Zealand. In Germany I enjoyed the xda very much... but here... I have the unlock problem + some others...
I bought the the xda approx. a year ago. Now my questions:
1. Can anyone tell me what to do after another with the version I (probably ) have, in order to unlock the xda?
2. What do I have to configure that I can use the xda here in New Zealand with its existing GPRS network?
Thank you all for your support and ideas!
Cheers
Tobias
The easiest way to unlock will be to install the Developers Rom 1.1. Vodafone here in NZ have a GPRS setup guide for the Qtek (step by step with screenshots), contact them for a copy (I could not find it on their website, but I am sure I have a copy somewhere, so let me know if you can't get a copy and I will see if I can find mine)
Cheers
Nick.
Thank you.
Sorry in advance for punishing those that have read this question uncountable times.....:
How/Where do I install the Developers Rom?
- where do I get it from?
- what does it cost?
- what do I have to do with it?
blablabla
Thanks for your patience
Tobias
it s a free ROM (Thanks to you guys @ XDA-developers) and you will find the howto page with all links up there in the navigation menu.
Everything is explained.
enjoy
Pocket PC 2003
I am running Pocket PC 2003 in New Zealand. Didnt have to change much, just the voice mail, sms message center numbers and the GPRS settings. seems to work well. I presume you are talking about the simlock. There is a Util that will unlock your device view http://xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/
Thats good news... and
I have gone through the plenty of information of the site here... however
Is there any "don´t worry - be happy - solution" around = e.g. somebody has prepared it totally.... and just put the card in and say "run"....
= can I buy a complete card somewhere or something?
I do not have time to do all those things needed :-(
any ideas ?
thx
tobias
Where abouts are you in NZ. I could possibly create you a SD card but I cant promise that it will work.
kewl... that would be great.
I am in the Auckland region. Waiheke Island to be more specific.
I can come on the mainland any time. A very good friend of mine is trying to get that xda unlocked. He is in Germany right now but unfortunately he has nearly no time. I gave him the xda THREE month ago to try to unlock but I never found time. In August he is coming to New Zealand and doing a tour here. So he can bring the xda with him and then we could check it out with the SD card.
that would be cool
thanks for your help
Tobias
The XDA's bought in NZ are unlocked so if you have to you can get them in NZ for about $1500NZ
nono..
I HAVE one... It did not bring it with me to NZ cause I hoped my friend in Germany could unlock it first...
I do not want to buy one. In August my friend comes and he brings the xda with him. Then I would be glad to know somebody here in NZ that could unlock my xda.
Can you do that?
Thanks
Tobias
nz gprs setting
go to this site:

hi,
where did you get the your qtek pc2003 update from?
I have a qtek but runs on pc2002. My radio version is 3.23.01
and rom version:3.1652eng. I bought my qtek in NZ.
I am trying to get the new windows mobile update but it
is still not available yet.
PPC2003PE
My phone has Radio ver 4.21. And bootloader 5.22. The rom ver is now 3.04.00 ENG. It was purchased in NZ unlocked.
The files I used to put the new OS on the phone are below on one of my old sites temporarily.
R E M E M B E R do not overwrite the boot loader and make a backup of your existing ROM first using the wallaby boot loader and an SD card. I backed up both the CE and BOOT ROM just in case.
This is not an official release and it may contain bugs (Not that I’ve found any, seems to work better than before 8) ) . There were a few regional settings you need to change. You will also have to re-enter the voice mail number +64 021 700 700 for NZ. It may not be compatable with some old software also.
I take no responsibility if this doesn’t work, but it did work for me.

Do I need a working SIM ?

Hi all, my first post here
I am looking at buying an XDA from Ebay, and want to go for a locked one, because they tend to go a bit cheaper, and money is tight atm.
I want to use the XDA on Orange, my questions are:
1. Do I need an O2 sim in the phone to be able to unlock/upgrade it
2. Can I do it with the cables that come in the box with the XDA ?
Many Thanks 8)
So, welcome to xda-developers board.
You were able to wirte your first post, so you also could read the sites on this domain...
Why don´t you take al look at all this threads about unlocking?
1. You can unlock your phone without an O2 sim....
2. You can upgrade to Developersa Rom 1.2 to hget the unlock tool, or you can transfer it via the USB-cradle (or even irda) to your xda, to get the tool running...
Regards
Stefan

Please note however that the XDAunlock program only works on ROMs (based on) 3.17.03 or 3.16.52. So installing a 3.17.03-based ROM from the kitchen and including XDAunlock, or installing Special Edition ROM v1.2, would both work.
Thanks 8)

N00B Questions, need help!

Okay so my moms phone broke and she's using an HTC Wizard. I don't know anything about this phone. I have a Rooted G1 and I love learning new things about phones. Can anybody tell me if I can Root this phone, how to get a ROM like Windows 6? Even links would work. I know how col you guys on XDA are, so I'll thank you ahead of time for all the great help your about to give me. Thanks people. =)
Windows mobile is always able to run unsigned programs and also it has no users making rooting windows mobile impossible as well as you already have full fs access.
You still will need to unlock your wizard to use custom roms due to your wizard probably being CID locked meaning iut will only work with roms from it's provider e.g. if it is a T-mobile phoner it will onle work with T-mobile roms until you unlock it with hard SPL.

Ok. Do you have the link for a Windows Mobile 6 ROM?

[q] is it possible to do carrier unlock?

Hello,
Sorry if this is stickied/posted or doesn't belong here but I can't find anything. I just recently flashed a Windows 7.5 rom on a HTC HD2 that's locked to T-Mobile, so I purchased an unlock code to try and use it on At&t but it doesn't work. I added the APN settings and nothing. Is it not possible to unlock? Does it need to be unlocked in Windows 6.5 stock state?
Rom Installed: [v4 Final Version] CTRLPDA FSM HD2 Mango ROM [03.01.2012]
FYI - Unlocked Sim Pin was also accepted but it still says no network found.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I wish to confirm this.
My friend tried to unlock with windows phone 7.5, but it would not take. It showed 'unlocked', but it did not unlock.
Went back to wm6.5 and it was OK. Then reinstalled 7.5 and it remained unlocked.
It was a lot of work really because a lot of time was put into the project in the end - trying to figure what was wrong with 7.5 then going back to 6.5 and loosing all the settings etc. So be warned!!!

settings from apps and games you can backup and restore with Windows Phone Device Manager v1.7.0.0 (unfortunately not work with public v1.8.0.0)
edit: new WPDM v1.9.0.0 working very fine
Thanks for helping out guys.
Another thing...can anyone confirm whether a custom 6.5 rom will work? I previously had an Energy rom and was wondering if it could have been done then?
