ROMkitchen is really wonderful. How can we add our own dish as different people may have different taste? Could someone please come out a tutorial to tell us how to add own favorites commerical softwares and change the bootup image?
Thanks again to the xda-developers.com
its not that hard once u get hang of it. I did it. so far i have pocket plus, resco explorer, button plus, pocket backup in there. basically u have to have ur own linux box with php support, apache, and perl. then u have to install the apps on ppcpe and run ssnap utility before and after installation. then look at the structure of the xda-developers rom kitchen and do the same for ur apps.
alex
Which ROM did you try, 2002 or 2003?

Hi All
I'm attempting to upgraded to WM2003 4.00.5 ENG I download and Customise my ROM from ROMkitchen (Jeff's kitchen) and deselected ... Today screen and appearance boot up images by XDA-developer.
Question after installation and reset will I retain my 02 original boot image ?

No, you'll get the test bootimage that comes with the 4.00.05 ROM image.
Installing a different boot-image doesn't use any extra space, because you just overwrite the old image.
I'm concetrating on 2003 rom. but it should work with 2002 as well. I have the kitchen cooking at full stream and added couple of apps on my own. 2 problems right now. I'm trying to secure my server before i start letting people downlaod roms from me and 2 my cable provider doesn't allow for sustained downloads from me. if i do it long enough they usually cap my upload speed to ISDN speed. if anybody knows how to secure apache, please let me know. what i want to do is basically use a user name and password that i will be giving people to use.
thanks
alex
kalex: what you need is htpasswd, take a look in apache documentation

We've all worked hard, but it's done. The
XDA Special Edition ROM v1.0
is ready for release. Click here for details.
Way good job.
Ill give it a try we I get a linux machine runnig.
any change of getting som kind of windows version ( I no this will be heard because you use dd for file manpilation).
Just keep up the good work and I let you know if I have got a rom in my machine 8)
Download it here !!!
Only yesterday I wondered what I could do for this community, and today's already my chance !
I followed the instructions for mkrom, got Othman's Qtek ROM to modify, and got a working ROM image, pretty much first try. It is way cool, and does everything promised on the page. I created a self-extracting archive that runs adaptROM and then the "Programme A" thing, so people don't need to build it anymore, they can just download it and flash their device..
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v10.exe
(The machine I'm on can handle quite a bit of traffic, but there may be other reasons why mirrors wouldn't be bad...)
Should work on all existing PW10A and PW10B devices. Please note that installing on U.S. 900/1900 phones (PW10B) carries a warning on the page.
Happy downloading. It's cool. Back up your stuff and install the new ROM today!

.Net Compact Framework
Hi !
is there a way to include the .NET Compact Framework in your ROM?
How about SMS_Name, sms-fix?
Thanks for your work
auto-config is not working
Hi !
I used Jeffs exe to install the ROM.
Everything worked fine, except the Auto-Configuration.
It pops up every time i boot my device and does nothing. I answered the questions and choose reboot, after the reboot there are no settings in connections and next time i connect to the gsm-net it asks again to do autoconfig.
I used the ROM on my german XDA32 with O2 (not loop).
Radio-Version: 4.16
am i doing something wrong or is it a bug?... Jabba

You should be able to just select 'Do not ask me this again' once, and that should be the end of it. I decided to leave the option to the user because I figured some people like being asked every time they switch SIMs. But maybe I should take it out on future versions.
Let me know if you can't make it go away by selecting the checkbox, and I'll look into it further.

I just posted it on use-net in alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc
Look for XDA developers romupdate.
One possible way to make the ROM image on Windows is to use CygWin. It's worked for me.
yes, the autoconfig goes away when i check the box, BUT i tried 3 times to let autoconfig do its job -> nothing. no configuration was done. finally i checked the box to make it go away. now i have to config the connections manually.
autoconfig does not work, it just says "you need to reboot" immediatly. and after reboot nothing changed. no config done. like i already said, i tried it 3 times.
am i the only one who is experiencing this?
a few questions:
- is the autoconfig dropdown empty? or does it contain a list of providers?
- dou you have an sd card? and a reader connected to your pc?
if so, can you write a rom image to sd, and save it to your pc disk
using xdarit,
and also use xdarit to write the NK.nbf (that can be found
in C:\Program Files\RUU\English) to sd, and then read
that sd image back to your pc, ( this is to convert the .nbf to .nb1
if you know how to use unix tools, you can also do this by
typing 'dd if=nk.nbf of=nk.nb1 bs=32 skip=8193' )
then compare those 2 .nb1 files.
they should be equal. if they are not, you should try to flash
your xda again, using the sd card you have now with the saved .nbf on it
that is more reliable than flashing using programme-A.
Thanks xda-developers AND the Jeff Summers who complied his ROM for US. Three PLAIN question
1) I'm happy that the 02 boot screen is gone but can I wool rather a non boot screen can your standard one be removed manually if not can you make this optional in the next version
2) Would I be able to reload the original ROM on the XDA i have to return to manufacture for servicing i two weeks
3)A minor Issue I i notice a square while mark in the top right corner appears sometimes is that know problem in the ROM.
Itsme: sorry i dont have a sd-card reader/writer. The dropdown menu is not empty, everything is there. i selected o2-germany.
btw: is the sms-fix in the rom too? sms-name i mean. is there any chance that there will be a german rom too?`
And there is one freeware tool written from a user at a german xda forum. it's an sms-char-counter (which is missing in PPC2002) it would be a good idea to add this too the ROM?!
the other guest: use the wallaby boot loader (reset with power-button pressed) to write your ce+boot to a sd card (this card will be overwritten completely!!) see the guide on this website.
the square mark is a very useful tool called 'switch', tap it, you will see.
you can download a rom that is official for your xda here
( that is assuming you are the person called 'guest' with the german o2 rom )
if you take a look at mkrom you will see how to modify the Special Edition rom to your needs.
Itsme: do i just have to change the dir-structure ? ie. program files -> programme etc???
This 'Guest' stuff is beginning to get to me. At least provide some identification, please. 'Guest', are you sure Autoconfig does 'nothing', it may be that it has created the GPRS settings, which i all it should do, we removed all the other crap it used to do. If it created no GPRS settings for you, I'll check the 'Germany - O2' file to see what's up...
Itsme: sorry i logged in with my last reply but forget to enter the username at the top of the reply (now i know there was some login error, otherwise the username-textfield will not be displayed).... i hope that i'm "in" now
in settings/connections there are no settings set for internet and work! "new" is the only item to select.
i tried that auto-config again, but still no settings...
sorry again for the "guest" stuff.

XDA developer Itsme
I was the Guest who mention the boot up after reset. I will be returning my XDA for services soon. Can i reload the original back with no problems? I had XDA 02 UK Radio Unit v31413 AND Radio Stack v4.
i notice the XDA developer SP Edition ROM Version date is 03/10/03 are we head of time??????
the boot up after soft rest (XDA developer bootup') i look at the instruction i have very little knowledge to follow the instruction (i'm a newbie). Any simple suggestion
it should be no problem to change your rom to a previous version
you can download the official o2 rom here
your radio stack was not modified by the special edition rom, so no need
to change it.
the date, mmm. not sure which of the digits is the month day or year.
I don't think I understand what you are trying to ask with your other question. ( or even if it is a question )
Hello XDA users....
I think you know it all, that the ROMkitchen is a fine application to get our device nearly perfect.
But the ROMkitchen is out of date. This means many applications aren´t not in the actual version. Therefore Auburnham and I thought to update the applications.
The problem is, that the amount of added applications to the kitchen is to big to make this happen by us two. Because of this problem I´m searching for some people, which wants to help.
Another problem is, that you need for this a device that haven´t got installed that piece of software. This means that when you want to help me with Phonext for example, you must have a device without any version of Phonext installed.
So, if you are going to help me make a snapshot of your device with the ssnap - Application.
Install the software.
Make again an Snapshot of your device with the ssnap - Application.
Send these two files to with inforamtion about the program you have installed and the exact Version you have installed.
When I´ve got analyzed the two files i will reply to you with a wishlist of files that have been created on your device. After sending me the files, i can update the kitchen....
IF there are any quesions or anything else, feel free to contact me....
Regards
Stefan
Good Idea :
I'd be happy to contribute.
Tell me which application you want me to install and I'll do it provided that I find the procedure (that I've seen being posted elsewere in this forum).
NB : I'm using XDA I with a Frenchy 3.16 and be stuck with it  ; so there is no chance for me to re-build a new a geniun 3.16 Rom again.
My XDA is all up and running.
I've overcome my Language FRA error message after purchasing a SD card reader and loading the ROM through the bootloader. 8)

I don't want to make this any more complicated than it is, but for some programs, it just doesn't make any sense to install to the XDA memory. Most of the media players and "Misc" programs just take up too much unnecessary device memory when they would work just as well on the SD Card (if that's available).
The problem is that those huge programs require just a few small files to be placed on the device itself. So after installing a few of these types of programs, you've used up a lot of device memory from these small files, even though you installed the program to your SD Card.
Is there a way to alter the kitchen a bit to allow cooking of the necessary device files only, and allow the user to later install the program to the SD Card (being careful not to overwrite the files in ROM with files in RAM)?
For instance, with the TomTom program, if you start with a clean ROM and SD card, take a snapshot, then install the program to your SD card, then take another snapshot, you could determine what files need to be on the device, and what files don't need to be on the device, and allow users to either cook the entire program or just the necessary files in the ROM. (Note: This is a good example of a run-on sentence). Would this be a difficult feature to add to the kitchen?

Maybe the esiest Option is adding a new Select Point for the kitchen like "misc", "System Tools", "Phone" ....
This means having the programs double in the kitchen, but how cares.
I don't know exactly, but when you install a program to the SD-Card, could you select the part where to place it?
If yes, this could be a big problem. Many of the programs store the path in the registry.
If no, i could also provide a ZIP-file, where the rest of the programfiles are in, hust to unzip to the Storagecard.....

I believe this really depends on (1) how well the program was written, and (2) if you can install the program with CabInst (i.e. has a cab installation).
For example, I try to keep my SD Card organized and tidy so if I use CabInst I install the program to an appropriate folder on the SD Card. If I have to install the program from the desktop, I install the program to the SD Card root, then try to move the program to an appropriate folder and update the shortcut. Most of the time this works without even changing any registry entries, but sometimes it doesn't. Two examples from the above list of applications are AOL Instant Messenger 2.0 and Pocketmind PocketMusic 3.0. To function correctly, they both need to be in their original installation folders on the SD Card.
But perhaps the best solution would be to have an associated .zip file to go on the SD Card, as you suggested.
Shawn
Now the kitchen should be up 2 date again.
Only missing is PocketConsole and the Part "Software that needs to register"
So happy cooking and again Thx a lot to all users that helped me.....
Stefan
A Windows-way for cooking a ROM would be great for two reasons: 1) Don't hassle your server with lots of traffic and 2) Practical. Advanced users could cook a ROM without having a PC with Unix.
For example I tried cooking the Spanish version of the ROM and not all the programs I chose were installed and the worst thing is that the boot logo was just garbage, it was showing program code on the screen as a logo

Marton

Ok. Fixed the problem with the bootscreen.....
Tried also adding as much application, and all have been installed.
Can you tell me, what files / programs are missing?
No one else told me that there have been a problem wirth this ROM. I think it's because of the situation that most of the useres are using WM2003 ROMS....
You can also use the kitchen under "Windows" just have to set up a Cyguin environment on your system....
Also i didn't know how many Kitchen's are implemented by other users, but mine one is the only "official". You can't believe that everyone would be able to set it up.......
Stefan
Thanks Stefan!!!!!!
Now it seems to work but if EzWAP is selected, it throws a Log error when trying to cook...
Cheers,
Marton
P.S.: Do you know if a Spanish WM2003 exists?
Edit: This is the error:
Cannot fit files in given sections
Error splitting files
Just cooked a ROM... I selected the "Windows Mobile XDA" Boot Screen and now it is not garbage anymore but now it shows mirrored and upside down...

Also what is each 1 for,Thanks
I'm trying to find out the same thing. Hope someone can help.
Default_Backkeysound_RC10
Installs a MIDI file for Back Key
Default_Caller_ID_WWE_RC10
This is the Caller ID application (consumes memory, but necessary if you want pictures pop up when ppl call you)
Default_Delete_vdisk
Not sure about this one!
Default_imateV1.00.10
Installs the imate splash screen, plus some other imate visual customisations.
Default_JMM101257_wwe_1004
JAVA patch - Recomended to install
Default_KSE_Fax_v2.09_unremovable
TrueFax software, allowing you to send/recieve faxes - Consumes lots of memory.
Default_MMS_V2.0.0.16_WWE_1115

What exactly is "back key"?
Just to complete:
Default_Delete_vdisk
Just makes the extended_rom invisible again.
Default_Patch_103_3
I've heard it updates the battery, radio and some other internals. Unless you have a problem I don't see the need - you can't shift this stuff from \windows so it will eat memory. Personally I'm just going to wait for the latest ROM update, then the above wll be out of date.
Default_Version_WWE_103143.sa
Updates some registry info, no practical effect that I know of.
Can't run LoadVDisk.exe
I can't run LoadVDisk.exe with my Mini, I can see the file but it won't run.
Is it locked ?
Or should I make changes with registry first ?
Thanks
Great thanks alot guys

Thanks guys great help. I personally did not install anything and my phone works still. Even without the patches. I will probably wait for rom update as well.
Here is a new rom kitchen which also can be used for Herald roms.
Anichillus is working on it to make it completely automatic for Herald. At the moment some files have to be copied manually - but it works.
Just have a look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309562
really really sweet, anichillus, awesome! but i'll wait for the Herald compatibility first
Thats definitly good news for the Herald community
Yeah it already works great. I used it to create a wm6 rom based off the wing os dump and it couldn't be easier (coming from a first time cook). I definitely recommend giving it a whirl if you're interested.
Guys, sorry i said that i will upload your kitchen today...but i might not
I think i have been hacked ...so the website doesn't work, and i lost all my stuff cos i had to format my PC (it wouldn't start lol)...I downloaded the one i customised for the hermes and i will start modding on yours, but it might take little more so i don't know if i can finish it today considering i have some personal stuff to do...
Untill then, tell me what RUU to include in yours...or other method for flashing ?
For now it was only meant to be installed in the system drive...and most of us have that drive only for windows.. So i figured that if i am going to modify it, i might as well make it path free so you can install wherever you want...and that also eats little time...
Cheers

Here you are. It is the Aserg-Zip folder only containing teh programs for flashing (perhaps you can delete some unused ones) and i deleted the OS.nb. But the RUU doesn´t work for herald.

No Ram disk
UC Capable *
A few customized logos and ringtones (Simpsons, StarWars)
fully integrated psshutxp (REBOOT) and akwifitoogle (WIFI_ON_OFF) in Start menu
Screenlock in Start menu (once active press mail + calendar to unlock the screen)
Space invaders in Games
Autorun for ExtROM is working
*SDAutorun runs but .cabs have to be hardcoded to install on SD Card or else will be installed in Storage
Tips:
Do not install CHome and manila2d together as they don´t like each other.
Use the WIFI_ON_OFF program if having trouble with wlan, it can be very handy
Known issues:
Given that CHome is still buggy I recommend to stick to manila2D (and it is part of the ExtROM file included)
GSPlayer complains on first run about being unsigned and hence unable to run, but second time works
I tried to load newer versions of Manila and HTC Album but both .cabs wouldn´t load
ExtROM:

this may be off topic - but i am new to the world of PDA's and cooked ROMS - so far i have used sundreams WM6.1 and now have WM6.5
Could someone please explain to me what the RAMDISK is all about? - and why so many people refer not to have it?
it is a virtual disk eating your ram
It is good for other PDAs where for technical reasons if you don´t have the ramdisk you simply waste that space.
In the Blue angel there is no such problem, so no ramdisk equals more ram
Download site not working
Hi Gloomy,
Is there any site where I can download your latest ROM?
Regards,
George
I Don't download this files beacause...
dear sir,
thank you for your rom , bu when I try to download this file from rapidshare , this message shows for me :
"This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.
This limit is reached.
To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information."
if it possible, please reupload this file.
very very thank you for your attention.
This weekend I will cook another 6.5 hopefully this time UC capable.
I am afraid in rapidshare it can only be downloaded 10 times.
If somebody knows of a better upload site that does not require registration, please let me know

try sharecow.com, no registration needed
Register on megaupload.com it can be downloaded maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany times =)
try www.sendspace.com NO REG NEED
Mediafire is better than them all, because it doesn't require anything and it doesn't have any limits, or time counters!
See first post for updated files and download links
Ok I have opted for ziddu, see first post
Feel free to re-upload it to your favourite site and post the links for the community´s benefit

Any guidance on installation procedure - explicit and simple instructions?
QUOTE=superflyboy;3239489]Any guidance on installation procedure - explicit and simple instructions?
create folder ExtROM in your SDCard
unpack the content of the ExtROM.rar file on this folder (should be containing .cab and a few other files=
put BA in serial mode
run BaUpgradeUt.exe to flash the rom
hard reset once it finishes
Then let the instalation continue, should be 5 more minutes.
Your phone will soft-reboot automatically
and you will be presented with the manila2d interface
