Upgrading to Windows Mobile 2003 with SER - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi guys!
I'm currently using a Qtek XDA 1010 that's been upgraded already with the XDA Developer's Special Edition ROM. I'm planning to install the Windows Mobile 2003.
Questions:
1) My phone used to be simlocked, but due to the SER now it's openline. If I upgrade to Mobile 2003 will the simlock be active again? Hope not.
2) If I upgrade to Mobile 2003, will it have any negative effects on the radio functions? I've been reading notes that a lot who've upgraded their RSUs totally wrecked their phones.
3) Is it worth the upgrade?
Many thanks! 8)

tried the wm2003 for a day, and had a lot of issues with it... extremely laggy, hard to receive and make calls, call quality is bad (pops), and just plain buggy i suppose. was using 4.00.1 i think... Ali's version. Flashed the SER 1.2 instead! a lot stabler, but darn! so many extra icons?

WM2003 and O2 XDA

Please bear with me. I am new to using unoffical roms on my xda and want a bit of advice. I would like to use the WM2003 on my xda and o2 are taking ages with an upgrade if we ever see one at all?
This report gives me a little hope
Is it possible to build a rom at jeff's rom kitchen using 4.00.05 ENG WM2003 for my XDA. Will it work ok in the uk with O2. If it will, what tools do u recomend for upgrading / backing up the rom. I am currently using the latest O2 radio stack is that going to be compatable? Will it be possible to go back the current O2 rom so I can use an offical upgrade if it arrives. Has any one tried it with a UK O2 XDA ?
One last thing what are the chances of this ending baddly (i.e. my lovely XDA becoming an expensive irravesable paper weight) and how can I reduce / remove this risk.
Thanks for your help.
Update
For those of you interested I have some news. After reading many many forum posts I took the plunge. I upgraded it to the rom I was asking about before. It worked like a charm. No problems at all. Even got gprs working first try.
No quite sure about the microsofts claim "Constant Data Connections". Not sure quite what it means I am supused to be able to do interms of recving calls and using GPRS. May be i need the radio stack upgrading before that will work.
Anyway I just want to say thanks jeff and the developers of the Rom Kitchen and keep up the good work.

Did you get anywhere? Im looking for advice on upgrading from PocketPC 2002 on my uk O2 XDA.
I found the free upgrade from PPC2002 to Windows Mobile 2003 (AT&T services) on this site, but it updates not only the operating system, but also the radio stack:
http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...2FMC%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda_DADS,00.html
Afterward, I wanted to unlock my phone and used the xda-developers special edition ROM. I guess it put the older PPC 2002 back on my XDA, but unlocked my phone AND I have fabulous reception where I had no signal before! Some of the new things from WM2003 are gone BUT I have great reception. The WM2003 nk.nbf file left on my computer is just under 32MB, and that is, I guess, the actual operating system upgrade w/o the radio stack changes the link above gave me. Trying to be brave enough to load it back onto my XDA... as I don't want to lose the fabulous reception I now have.

No such thing called XDA version Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
It doesn’t exist.
Windows Mobile Second Edition? Not until summer/fall.
Microsoft is suppose to launch the second edition of Windows Mobile aka Pocket PC 2003 towards the end of summer/beginnning of autumn. The only device they've announced to support the updated OS is the Motorola MPx200. Until it's release, Windows Mobile is the most recent OS for Wallaby devices.
WIN 2003 SE!
ah ok, so the new Windows 2003 SE has not been released yet!
I have the Microsoft Windows 2003 SE emulator images, but i guess it won't work for any device! I can only use the SE version on emulator, so thats why I was wondering if they've released it on real devices!
so what about the latest ROM version for XDA I??
I have found that 4.01.16 ENG (from http://xda.weblink.net) is the latest Windows 2003 ROM among all the kitchens!
Is there any newer version ??
I also found a ROM called A.30.09 ENG.. What does that mean?? Does this ROM works on XDA I ?
Thank you all
4.01.16 from T-Mobile or 30.09 from AT&T are the latest WM2003 ROMs available for XDA I ... however, A30.09 has a silly sound issue (clipping).
Well, I believe the SE edition has been released. Is there any way for us xda 1 users to get this thingy working on our units?
the SE is released for OEMs only ... it's a matter of time before it's commercially available especially the PE
ThAnKs dude I will install the T-mobile 4.01.16 ENG then..
FYI: I've seen WM2K3SE running on an XDA I device at the MDC last week in use by a MSFT. I was not able to inquire as to it's functionality as I'm sure it isn't optimized yet - much like the beta version I received for my hp iPAQ h2210.
Pity you didnt get a rom dump on an sd card
oh yes, good idea to take an image of the installed ROM on SD card!
I am going crazy searching the net for win2003SE!!!! I can't find any
I just have it on my emulator, its fast & i guess its well optimized more than previous versions!

two questions about XDA upgrade

Hi all.
first question:
last year I've upgraded my O2 XDA to Radio stack ver.4.21.00 and to 4.00.05 ENG ROM version (MS PocketPC 4.20.1081 Build 13100)
Is there a new upgrade version available?
second question:
do you know EDGE technology (evolution of GPRS)?
TIM, italian cell phone operator, has just start EDGE connections with mobile phone NOKIA 6230
EDGE runs at 200k/bit (GPRS only 57k/bits...)
Is there a patch for XDA radio stack?
thanks all.
Marco
last edge were up somebody said it could only be supported by new hardware and that went for all gsm phones
edge support were something they had to be born with no software could change that
about latest xda1 rom then

About ROMkitchen
I've some questions about ROMkitchen.
1. what differences between 4.xx.xx versions and A.30.xx versions? Are all Windows Mobile 2003 versions?
2. can i install 4.01.16 ENG on my O2 XDA with TIM (italian cell phone operator)?
3. if a cook a ROM WITHOUT Add Software, can i use the Rom left free to install manually other softwares in second times?
4. if i cook a ROM WITH Add Software, can i upgrade these softwares with newest versions?
Thanks.

yes unless they found some way to block it that i've never heard about
as a rule a xda is seem as a normal gsm phone by the phone company i doubt they could even tell unless they looked at the imei nr what type of phone you are using
3. if a cook a ROM WITHOUT Add Software, can i use the Rom left free to install manually other softwares in second times?

rom means read only so it can only be writen to when you flash the whole rom at once so no use it or it's wasted
4. if i cook a ROM WITH Add Software, can i upgrade these softwares with newest versions?

to tell you the truth i'm not sure i suppose a file placed in the rom cant be overwriten by a newer file but a new install but i'm not sure

Updating the pocket pc 2002 to pocket pc 2003

Hi!
I am new guy here,
and whant to upgrade my O2 XDA to Windows Mopbile 2003 (2003SE).
My phone is runing now XDA rom version 3.17.03
Can you give me advise how to perform safe upgrade
of my originally nonlocked O2?
I have read that some people perfomed upgrade
without errors, but some have trouble to back to 2002 after,
or frozen after boot WM2003.
Its not clear for me and I think for some others here, why
on the same device, different results expected.
merci

bring me up to date...please.

I am a happy wallaby owner. I updated to xda v1.2 about two years ago...works great. out of curiosity I revisited the site, which has changed. I don't recognize the updates they are talking about....?
Is there a better os than xda v1.2 and if so how can I get it?
There are several ROM-Version based on WM 2003 available for the Wallaby, and also am WM2003SE (which is after my opinion not for production use).
You can get the ROMs here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ROMVersions
or cook your own at
http://www.romkitchen.de

Stefan
