Announcing XDA-developers Special Edition ROM v1.1

Version 1.1 of the Special Edition ROM is now out:
Fixed:
- Based on O2 3.17.03 ROM: annoying reply to SMS bug fixed
- Everyone can now use GPRS
- Pocket IE opens GPRS connection
- Serial ActiveSync now works
- Minor issues and cosmetics
New:
- Brand new version of dbView tool
- EzWAP2
- Our own band switch tool for US users, switch between all three bands
(no guarantee your hardware supports it, but at least you can now try)
This is now officially the coolest ROM for you, no matter where you live...
See the mkrom page for details on how to build this ROM (difficult), or wait for some kind soul to build the EXE, and just download and run it (easy).

Thanks a lot for your effort. I've really enjoyed the possibility to create my own ROM.
Is it possible to get a look on the source code of that welcome.exe app? So far it 's the only closed thing in your package.

The source is online: http://xda-developers.com/mkrom/welcome101-src.zip . The source for the welcome in the previous ROM was available too. Look at the mkrom page for details...
Let us know if you come across cool tricks we could incorporate in our ROMs too.

I am here in the uk...
Last time i tried to flash my xda with the radio upgrade i lost all functions on the device and had to send it back to the service centre to be repaired...
If i run the exe that has beed kindly created is there any chance of screwing up my device again!...
I would be running via USB and the docking station that came with the decive!..
I want to do this but am a little worried after the last incident!...

Two questions:
Is EzWap version 2.5 MMS or 2
When you say:

What do you mean exactly by this ?
Because we have a serious problem with our local operator: they "upgraded" the GPRS system (by Erickson) last week, and since then, all GPRS on Pocket PC's stopped connecting. Is the new ROM the solution ?

ezwap 2.5 has got MMS

is there a program on the new ROM which can open pdf files instead of acrobat reader?

Try it.... it sits as small programm in the taskbar naming "start" (because it's right over the start button).. it runs always... taking nearly no cpu-time. when u start to write a sms then it begins to count (like nokia).

- More AutoConfig providers, thanks to the users of this forum
- PocketNav replaces Switch
- tdClock (larger clock) and tdLaunch (shortcut icons) on the Today screen
- JogButton on both buttons (we patched it just a little...)
- PhonExt (per-contact and per-category ringtones, single handed dialing)
- D9 (Single handed dialing)
- PocketDIVX (plays anything, better for some things than WMP)
- imov Messenger Basic (jabber, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, AIM)
- PocketCHAT (IRC)
- nPOP (alternative POP/SMTP client)
- Ruler (cm and inches)
- StopTime (Stopwatch and much more)
- Frequency Tuner (for musical instruments)
- Ephemeris (Sun and Moon positions)
- Many small things have been made nicer
- Everything that was in the earlier Special Edition ROMs is still there.
This ROM exists thanks to all the great suggestions on this forum. As you can see, we've been paying close attention, and included lots of stuff you wanted.
As usual, we left (just...) enough space to fit the EzWAP2 files. Don't ask how we got it all in there, just enjoy!

You can get this ROM either:
- The difficult way:
Download the 'mkrom' package. To use the package, you have to have the old O2 ROM, a unix box, the EzWAP files, and some some experience.
- The easy way:
If you're not an expert and/or do not have access to a unix machine, it may be better to wait until someone builds the ROM for you and offers an ready-made version of this ROM for you to install. Can't be long...
(The next Special Edition ROM is going to be a while. We need to get to know PPC2003 a bit more intimately before we start messing with making ROMs.)

I think you wonderful people are totally awesome; your efforts and support bring what is missing in the global PPC/PPCPhone community.
I used your SER 1.1 and now have jumped to the PPC2003 ROM posted here 8 days ago; it is kind of hard going back to WinCE 3.0 after a week of WinCEing at 4.2.
Is there a realistic timetable as to when to expect a SER ROM based on PPC2003 (like 1, 3 or more months)?
Anything to whet our appetite?

Error while flashing the new 1.2
HI!
I've tryed the update on 2 differend computers.
Now on my xda runs 2003 with the latest radio stack.
I've I tryed to "update" to the new XDA-Def. 1.2 then Flashprog stops after a few seconds and the Active Sync 3.7 stops to run... :shock:
A reset can wake up my xda... but no new rom...
Can anybody help ???

Although I am not an xda developer guy, I think I might have the answer for you. You're trying to flash an xda with a PPC2003 ROM right?
When Programme A runs it first calls AdaptROM and reads info from your xda to adapt the ROM file header to your xda version.
xda guys, correct me if I am wrong, but AdaptROM DOES NOT run with the newer PC2003 ROM builds, it produces an error message. The structure of the *.BIN files that generates the PPC2003 ROM is different than the *.NB1, *.NBx file of the previous ROM.
The ONLY way to load the SER ROM on your xda, is to use the XDArit.exe and SDCard/Bootloader method.
If anyone has different info, I stand corrected

i loaded the 2003 and have already rolled back to my original tmobile rom. one of the quirks in that rom was that my tomtom software recognized my ppcpe as a new device and would not let me load the software on a new device so soon. (less than 7 days). anyone know if the new rom will cause my device to be seen as new to tomtom? if i load this new rom i will be unable to upgrade my rom for 6 months or risk losing the use of my tomtom software. not to be picky but is there a way to upgrade the rom and have tomtom still see my device as the same so it does not require reactivation?

I had the same problem with 2003, when I updated to 2003 the device ID changes. So I send an email to tomtom and explained it. With in a few hours I got a reply with a new activation code. So that is not a real problem.
Tonight I will load the special 1.2 ROM on my PPC2003 and I think (hope) my old device ID will be back, so I can activate it with the old code. If not then I'll email tomtom again.

I Have the same problem as Supergrobie
I installed 2003 just to see what all the fuss was about. Decided the special rom from xda-developers was better but i can't get back.
- The 1.2 (or any other 2002 rom) won't install (same problem as Supergrobie described)
- The sd-backup i made gives all kinds of errors after the soft-reset
- The wallaby boot-loader is gone
Any suggestions would be appreciated. (Apart from buy a new XDa you dumb .... :lol: )

T Mobile upgrade

I am a new member of this forum which I have found to be splendid. Thanks XDA developers and all contributors for your super support to all of us to make our lives easier
Specila thanks for Jeff for his fast EXE releases of the Special Edition ROM (1.1 and 1.2). I have a question for Jeff. I have a T Mobile device which I upgraded my self from 3.08.10 to ROM version 3.14.40 downloaded from T Mobile. The Radio version is 6.18 and the upgrade was successfull.
Can the SER_v12 be installed without problems on my device or do I have to build my own ROM image using T Mobile OS files? Is there any problem to install the Special ROM edition 1.2 which is based on the O2 3.17 on my T Mobile?

My question was global, I did not mean Jeff only. I am asking Jeff about the EXE file. However I would like to know the concept if it is right to build an XDA Special ROM image using O2 3.17 ROM to upgrade my T Mobile (900/1900) ROM 3.14 or not? Will it work?
Have anybody tried yet SER_v11 or v12 on a TMobile?

By the way, I found that the Autoconfig does not work for me (and I am the person who provide you a registry of AIS-Thailand). The GPRS dialing pattern should be +0~GRPS!internet, but it has only been configured only +0. Maybe I sent you somehow not complete registry file. I don't think it is a problem because I had never used the Autoconfig before.

Does this ROM also contain WMP? Is it the newest version of WMP?
2. Did you add the latest, improved version of Microsoft Reader?

i understand this is due to a conflict with the mail and documents tab. TBH i've never noticed it as a problem. the only fix is to remove the new tabs and i use them far more than i notice the problem.
as its across most roms i'm not looking at resolving this as i consider it to be minor
issue with changing the date via windows settings - use Manila settings instead as this works fine will look to fixing in the future

its using the 2.10 base so it's possible but i would not want to say yes and brick anyones phone. i'm on the EU HD2 so can only advise compatibility with the origional model.

to answer the question, i've been running this build for over a week and no SOD erros so far (fingers crossed it stays that way)
so far i've not found a glitch and we both know from experience there are bound to be some.
as always i'd love feedback cos the one thing that seems to be a given is people use the rom but don't feedback.

Nice to speak to you to I can see why everyone loves the HD2 so much now! the screen is just impossible to get over, its HUGE! I'll flash this later when i have time, I plan to release some ROMs for the Diamond, TP2 and hopefully the HD2
Have had a few SOD with Miri, i need something with a nice stock icon set
i will post feedback when given it some testing, and one other thing, what kitchen are you using and on what OS, have had issues with Ervius and OSKitchen on Win7 pro RTM

i've updated my evirus from the diamond days.
i'm running vista so no issues can't advise any of the others as i'm stuck in my ways.

I don't have any i-Mate ROMs, but would be willing to search if I know more about what you need. I bet the following information might help others want to help you...
Could you list the model name or number of your i-Mate?
Are you trying to downgrade to 2003 or 2002? With or without phone? What language ROM?
Any chance you know the ROM version number that you want?

LOL - I see that is a hard to find ROM... HTC Worldwide doesn't even list the Himalaya on their Support page anymore. Other resources I checked don't have it in repository either.
One quick fix may be to Download the install package for Transcriber direct from M$. It is listed for WM 2002, but may work under WM 5.

Lots of ROMs in multiple languages to choose from...
Some of the links might still be good... Maybe an Upgrade instead of a Downgrade??? Especially since WM 2003 is next to be phased out of support by M$.
P.S.: I'll still poke around looking for the WM 2003 a bit... Post back if either option above solves your problem so I don't keep searching needlessly.

There's a little problem
I'm having difficulty changing the operator in the WM2003 nbk and radio files..it says that i have to use command prompt and enter the words in the instructions so i entered them and it says that it doesn't recognize the syntax...How do you really change the operator ID of the ROM? Please elaborate the steps..if you can.Thanks

@AndrewSH , I though you are one of DFT site VIP member and knew DFT very well but seems not at all , Cotulla was one of DarkForce also admin of DFT offical site , zjw831 was doing his job protected DF's work , is something wrong of this ? you tell me why we still not release DFT-code ? why only release to few developers ? I think you knew answer, am I right ?
If anything need Cotulla write any message to here than we no need a team to work toeghter, each team member had their own job to do , meantime Cotulla dont had that much time to look your guy's ****.
