poly& midi ringtone fix for ppc 2003 - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

i have found a fix for poly/midi ringtones for the wm2003 rom::
run the cab file from you device, and put the enclosed *.midi file in your ringtones dir, and one working midi/polly ringtone
ps the program i got from some site, so do not know anything about it as it was not in english(readme fil included in the installed cab dir). maybe some one can figure out how it fixes the problem so it does not need to be installed etc??

maybe it will work with a pcc2002 rom, i have not tried it
please let me know how you get on

The zip file appears to be corrupt

try it again, it should now work

The mimidi program is actually a MIDI player for the Pocket PC. It even works on PPC2002. The reason the included MIDI file works is because it has a different format type than regular MIDI files. This file will actually even play on WM2003 without mimidi installed. Try it.
I can say for sure that WM2003 supports MIDI ringtones, but the type of MIDI files are different. The supported MIDI files are very small compared to regular MIDI files. I am trying to do some more research into this.
Will let you guys know if anything turns up.

lol, I never even tried it before I installed that little program, as ppl in other posts said it was not working(midi) in the 4001 rom.
the midi file I included was a nokia 7650 polly. ring tone I just downloaded from the net

yeah your right If i remove the program, the file still works

correct me if I'm wrong, but the midi file sounds pretty bad when played from the phone app (the correct midi instruments do not load, ie piano & drums); the mimidi app sounds like it should (with 6-voice polyphony, anyway)

OK it was here earlier today, correct me if I'm wrong but where did the link go
Should be in the first post not present anymore.
E.

by the way, a newer version (v.1.0) of mimidi, can be found here:
http://www.pdasky.com/soft/5009.htm
cool little player btw.
now, how do your ringtones sound with the player, and from the phone app :?:

sorry had to remove my download
but yeah theres a newer version of the app out

Where is the Link :?:
Thanks,,,

Thanks,
Working well with some MIDI

Midi file as ringtone (After WM2003 ROM upgrade)

Hi everyone,
After using the Siemen WM2003 ROM to upgrade my O2 XDA 1.
I was expecting to be able to use MIDI files as my ringtones.
But to my surprise, it didn't work! :x
I copied a few midi files to the "\Windows\Rings" directory, I can see that file from the ringtone option.
After I seleted it and click the play button, it just 1 short BEEP sound and that's it.
Anyone has this problem?
or anyone can help me with this please???
thanks all.
I have the same problem. I thought that WM2003 can't play MIDI files with many tracks (e: >6). I tried editing some files and make it with only 4 tracks but still no luck.
May someone post a good MIDI that works on his/her XDA to study it as an example.
Actually, XDA II running WM 2003 can play Midi files.
I've given the one I cannot play to my friend's XDA II and it worked there.
it must be something to do with the WM 2003 from Siemens...
anyone else have a clue? I am sure many guru here who can help us...
Yeah, I also find the same problem.

This problem isn't from the newest Rom's! It's just that the Xda1 plays 1 Chord "1 Instrument" by default. When you install the Program "Album" from IA Style you'll notice that the midi files are associated and they'll be playable very well, I just wish that someone makes changes in the driver which it will let us play midi files in the full instruments and set them as ringtones... I guess that needs a .dll files to be added to the ROM so hope we can make a progress.
But for whom they want to play Midis on XDA1 ,get the Old nokia ringtones the ".mid or from the .rtx or .txt " files ,convert it and play it you'll find it running perfectly like this one >>>>>>>>Dance Poly 1.mid
Yeah, that was my first notice when trying MMS Composer 1.6.9 ... maybe the driver will be installed in a newer WM2003 releases
great. the dance poly 1.mid worked in XDA I with WM2003 os.
there's another post here which has the midi cab file to be installed and that exactly what i did and now my xda I can play midi files... but, not all of them
and since im not a techie, i dont why it can play some and cannot play the others... can somebody enlighten us on this?
thanks a lot.

Dido,
The Poly 1.mid works fine without the MIDI56.sa.CAB file installed into your device bcz you got WM2003 and it's a 1 instrument Poly, but if you do what's written in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=46903#46903 all the midi files will work properly.
I did it and it's working like a charm with all the midi's instruments
Try this midi after you install the cab file into your device >>DJ_SAMY.MID<<
hi ramram,
hmmmm, we tried the DJ_SAMY midi file but it sounds quite distorted, i.e., when we play it on the PC (we use jetaudio) and listen to it on the PPC, the sound coming from the PPC is very different from the PC.
what gives? we installed the MIDI56.sa.CAB but the dj_samy is not quite good to listen byt the dancepoly is still nice.
thanks.

Hello Dido,
Man what do you expect from a PPC!! It doesn't have a speakers like the Pc thus computer midi instruments differs from our device. This Midi plug-in that what could output from sound and I'm so glad that we could hear polyphonic ringtones thanks for the updates they made in the Himalaya's.
I'll attach another ringtone for you hope you will like it.
Ps: While playing those ringtones my ppc don't sound distorted at all.
Another Midi ringtone
Try this as well I took it from the Nokia phone.
thanks guys.
we both tried rkelly and songette but for the latter we only heard beep beep
is there some properties for the midi files that would work for XDA I ?

Found Patch to Make MP3's Work as Ringtone

A friend of mine found this patch, and i tried it and it works
i then tried it on the New Imate 1.12 rom and it did not work...
but it works fine on my T-mobile 1.01 rom.......
Just wondered if anyone else found this patch
Marc
What patch :?:
:?: The Magician plays mp3-ringtones by design. No patch required.
That's true, but no alarm tones. You can only use wavs for that. There are many applications which provide this feature, like WolfClock. I don't know if there's a patch available for this.
could you share a link plz

Yeah mine did until i installed betaplayer, after that it doesnt show mp3's when you try to change your ringtone. Uninstalling betaplayer resulted in no application being able to play mp3's. This suggests to me a file association problem but I have no idea how to solve it. Unlike 'regular' Windoze where you can assign associations fairly easily, mobile edition doesnt seem to be able to do this. Unless someone can come up with a better idea it looks like Im in for a long trawl through the registry
I did this with Winampaq on my XDA2. There is no way to re-associate the files with media player short of a hard reset. Microsoft really dodn't do much testing on this OS at all.
I found this but havent tried it.
been using it for ages, lets you set MP3 rintones from tap and hold menu, copies them...the whole file, to your windows\rings directory and sets as default ringtone.

You should take a look at Resco File Explorer which can do exactly this.

Thanks for the tip, I will have a look at that app.
My main gripe tho is that I prefer GSplayer or Betaplayer to Media Player but when I install either one I lose the ability to use MP3's for ringtones, it seems that the phone will only allow MP3 ringtones using the WM engine (or I have missed something)
after installing any 3rd party mp3 program you need to reassociate mp3 files with windows media player to get mp3 ring tones to work correctly.

Thanks people...The app works just fine...THIS is what I had been searching...

New system sounds

Trying to add some new wave sounds for my incoming text messages. Have copied some small wav sounds into the windows directory along with the standard ones and although they show up in the list of available sounds they dont make a sound when clicked on to play. The strange thing is if you click on them in file browser they play in wmp. Anyone else had this ?
nope, sorry - i've added loads and they work fine...
I just try a few different ones then to see if they work. Just thought someone else might have had this prob as well.
i had a deferent kind of problem, i have a wav file which plays well on my pc, but when i add it to my kjam it doesn't play even through the wmp
Sussed it. Although when you moved the pointer over the file it came up in windows as saying wav file, when you checked the properties it was actully an mp3 file.
Downloaded some actual pcm wav files and they played fine.
Looking for some really good " New message " type wav files. Anyone know of any good sites ?

Only Default Windows Ringtones after QTEK Upgrade

I have a T-Mobile MDA VARIO, I really wanted my Bluetooth headset adapter to work with my phone using A2DP etc.. It worked and the upgrade has improved the phone no end... except.. I can only use the windows default ring tone.
All the other ring tones (fantasy, jig etc.. ) are in the Windows directory, but saved as wma files rather than wav and they just wont play..
I have tried to convert the wma file and delete the originals, but the files are in the readonly ROM!!!
Has anyone else had this issue? Do you know how to resolve it?? HELP... thanks
you need the cab that makes this possible.
See the Wizard wiki on extended ROM's fro it.
In the T-Mobile explanation is the answer on which cab you need.
Thanks edsub.. tried installing the usa t-mobile and the NL cab, but still does not work...
UPDATE : WORKING!! Thanks edsub.. Needed to re-associate the wav and mp3 files with Windows Media player, all ok now... Maybe I did not need the cab file, all I needed to do is use RESCO Explorer to associate the music files with Media player rather than imusic, which it was previously set to

Ring tone/MP3 problem

I have added bunch of MP3's to my storage card at the root level. 2 things are happening that are real weird.
1. They show up in the ringtone list but will not play.
2. When you go directly to file and try to launch and error pops up that reads. "the file can not be opened. either it is not signd with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore the file." The wierd thing is if I pull it into WM player it works just fine. I only get this error when I try to open the file directly which I blieve if this is corrected my ring tones will work again.
Thanks for you help

You tried putting these in the 'ring tones' folder to see if you have the same problem?
yep same problem there. I hate to do a hard reset, but i'm running out of ideas.
Sorry if it's a silly question but are you sure they're mp3 format, not aac or wma or something else?
i double checked and they are mp3.
Have you installed a 3rd party application that is registered as the default player for MP3? if yes - you need to make WMP the default player back.
how do I make it the default again?
I to am having the same problem....... My mp3 ringtones were working fine until I downloaded Pocket Music and all my mp3's were converted to pocket music. I tried to convert them back to WMP by using RESCO file explorer. I would "play with" and choose WMP and get an error saying "The System cannot find the path specified." Of course im no the most technical person, so if anyone can explain that and tell me what I need to do to fix the problem I would realy appreciate it.
Thanks
Ring Tone
I'm having a similar problem (Wizard). The ONLY ring tone that will play is the Windows Default. It won't play MP3, WAV or WMA, whether it's in the Windows root, the storage card root, the Ring Tones directory or the Rings directory.
At least the Windows Default will play otherwise I wouldn't have ANY ring tone.
Update: In another thread someone said change the associations in Pocket Player. Well, I don't have Pocket Player but I DO have BetaPlayer. I dropped the mp3 association and the WAV and WMA associations and the ringtones are working again!
I have the same problems with mp3 files as ringtone. I even delete the GSPlayer from the PPC...and still the same error. I try moving it directly to the ringtone folder...still no luck...
Can anyone help?

Do the Mp3 have to be in a particular codec or bit rate to work? Some of mine work. Some don't and I've noticed the ones that I've made myself are the ones that don't work...oh and some trekker ringtones I downloaded
Same here.
I removed all of the file associations with BetaPlayer and I am still having problems. I have a program called PocketTweak that lets me actually assign associations, but I cannot see all of my program files.
Let me know if anybody finds a resolution to this ... or if you know how to see all of the files so I can start associating WMPlayer to them. I have a feeling if I can figure that out, the ringers will start working again. But I could be wrong ...
Kangle
I found a fix for me.
I also have GSFinder. I used that to look at my file extensions and noticed that the file extension mp3 was gone, even though it appeared in my PocketTweak program. I added the extension mp3 and chose Windows Media file as the program to open it.
Then I went back into phone settings and presto. MP3 ringtones are now playing again.
Hope this helps some of you. I think installing PocketTweak somehow messed it up b/c it was working fine before then, even after installing BetaPlayer.
However, I did change some associations with BetaPlayer last night b/c I had a problem saving internet radio stations links to my PDA b/c BetaPlayer would automatically launch/open the stream as opposed to giving me the option to save. I wanted to save them b/c I use GSPlayer to listen to audio. So there is also a possibilty that I changed something last night that caused it not to work today. Oh well ... again, I hope this helps some of you.
