For the XDA Gods.....one wish - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

While driving the incoming call message balloon is difficult to read; actually the balloon is quite large but the text and the buttons are not. Why would there be such a large balloon if it is not going to be used?
So my wish is this; PLEASE increase the size of the text in the notification balloons as well as the size of the buttons. Your work in this matter will probably prevent a car accident in the future.
In advanced, I thank you.

Assingning A Button To Do This

Hi,
I like to use my own MP3 ringtones for incoming text message, They are quite long (40-50 seconds) so that I don't miss them if I am not next to my phone but How do I stop it from ringing as it always plays to the end, would like to assing a buton same as when you get incoming call just to end it...
Cheers
JAY
If you just click the End Call button while it's ringing from an incoming call, the phone should immediately forward the caller to your voice mail, and end the ringing.
Have you tried pressing the End Call button while the text message ring is going? You might be able to kill the ring that way, without doing anything unwanted like inadvertently deleting a message.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply but I have tried this, still does not stop the ringtone, I have tried to see if I can assign a button to do what I'm after but have not come up with anything, I know people will say just make a shorter length ringtone for my incoming text message but I prefer the longer length...
Do you think there would be a registry hack or maybe 3rd party software for this...
Cheers

It may be possible to write a mortscript that will stop any active ringing, and from there it's an easy step to create a soft button that does what you want using, for example, rlToday, or using Smartskey to place a secondary action on an existing hardware button (Press=original action, press+hold=new action), but you still have the problem of finding the activity that is the ringing, and creating a shortcut that will reverse that condition. It's over my head, I'm afraid.
Smartskey is definitely the tool to add a key function. Mortscripts is probably the easiest option you have for making a "program" that cuts a ringtone short, but it's probably not the only solution.
I'm afraid the SMS tone is played from some system process, so you can't just "kill" it with e.g. MortScript (except maybe if you don't care to get any further messages until a soft reset...). I think there's only a chance to cut it off if another app does the job. Maybe phoneAlarm does offer something like it.
MortRing in theory would be able, too, if "internal playback" is checked and the system's signal is turned off, but so far it hasn't any means to get a "stop it!" signal. And it only supports WAV...

Didn't mean to throw you under the bus, so to speak, but hey, I'm a fan of your work. Glad you could drop by, Mort!
i just use the volume slider to switch off the ringer. I do it even if I want to ignore a call without hanging up.

Few questions: disable scrollbars, rejected cals shouldn't generate missed calls,...

First of all, when being in the browser, is it possible to make it hide the scroll bars when not scrolling so 100% of pixels would be dedicated to web content? Like nokias, I would like scroll bars to appear only when scrolling (nokias don't hide entire UI though, so they are not better at web content pixel%)
And secondly, I don't want my phone to generate a missed call whenever I reject it - I know that I have rejected a call, why would I want to also clear a notification every time I drop a call?
Also, I would like the scroll ball to select individual items/icons on the desktops and not to just scroll them around..They could of course scroll when the pointer reaches the edge though.
Now some questions about the accelerometer.
The HD2 has some nice features which use accelerometer - for example, it can reduce ringtone volume when you let phone know that you are aware that you are being called by moving it. I am not sure, but you can also reject a call by shaking the device.

Change incoming call screen?

I did a little hunting around and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for:
My girlfriend has a captivate, and hates the default answering screen you get when there's an incoming phone call. She finds the small slider too difficult to reliably slide all the way over on a consistent basis. I found a few apps that will change it to a single button, but they have mixed feedback, and that raises the problem of the phone accidentally being answered in her purse/pocket. Short of loading a custom ROM (I am /not/ going down that road on a phone that isn't mine) does anyone know of a way to change the answer screen to have a larger slider or like the glass style lock screen? Am I missing something obvious?

caller id question

So i went and set all my favorits with caller i.d. pictures. One thing though. Whenever someone calls the top 1/3 maybe 1/4 of the screen displays a small portion of their picture with the rest of the screen being the icon to scroll right or left to answer or ignore. is there anyway to make the picture take up more of that real estate instead of just using a very small amount?

thanks.

[Q] How can I configure the messaging app to show more of the thread?

When I hit Messages, the content is too large, can I shrink it down in font size or padding so I can see more of the conversation? Default Rogers, btw and probably for the next little while.

On mine if you press the volume key while in the messaging app it zooms in and out and makes everything smaller and shows more. Try that and let me know )

Oh I'll let you know! Perfect!!!!! Thanks so much.
I was zoomed way in and could not even see all of the last response.
After a little digging around I see the threaded conversation is in what are called balloons but there is no obvious way to get rid of balloons. lots of wasted real estate. When typing a message the editing box seems too tall and the word picker is too tall.
But all in all your volume zoom solution at least makes reviewing conversations 500% better.
