I'm using CM7 right now, as are many others on this forum. It's up to you if you think it's a daily driver or not, but it's there, right now.
Patience, there's two people working on it (not together) xboarder, and krylon. Its hard to make a 2.3 from scratch.
Cm7 should be out of beta for i9000 pretty soon. Just be patient.
Remember when people questioned if the G1 would ever get updated? You know... the 3 year old Grandpa of all Android phones.
IT is running a newer version of the OS than my Vibrant. Have faith and patience man.
The same old 2.2 roms passing around, people editing icons & backgrounds, changing boot screens & apps. But at the end of the day there all froyo. eugene's macnutR14 is the most customized rom. bionix is nice but doesn't have video calls on the dialer. you can metamorph, ninjamorph, flash, push, oc your phone but its still 2.2 froyo
I want to see all the 2.3 gingerbread affects on vibrant the scrolling animation, the crt animation the camera app, the downloads app where they at holla
I can modify my own 2.2 rom theres so many to take stuff from. stop playing with each others roms work on 2.3 are you guys devs or are you editors cause it looks like besides a few your all editors

Okay, I'm starting to get annoyed at these kind of threads that come from ppl that obviously have no clue in what it takes to build a ROM from the ground on up. Just because android is open source doesn't mean that samsung's kernels are and we pretty much need compatible ones for our ROMs to work. Meanwhile, there are at least 2 teams working on gingerbread ROMs right now. I dunno about you but I'd rather have a fully stable 2.2/2.2.1 ROM out while we have the source than to take my chances and possibly brick my phone on a bug infested build of gingerbread.

I'm just upset that there is not honeycomb 3.0 rom that transforms your phone into a tablet is not out yet. i heard from the magical elf that sits on my shoulder that it would come out soon. that's why i say screw elves gnomes never lie to you.
Well I heard 2012 is the end of the world. I'm just wishing 2012 rolls around a lot faster then expected....
Aren't they only phones to have official 2.3 the nexus'? Quit yappin and start coding . Lol jk....
These devs work hard to get the new roms out. And to ask 'em to stopp bullcrapping and start on a new one is malarkey. Malarkey, I tells ya!

We will get more newer gb sense roms when a working kernel is ready. It slowed when tbolt came out, but the inc 2 will not slow us, neither a just that much of an upgrade imo. When our kernel is ready, you will see many varieties of ports for the dinc.

I'm at work so i cant see those images for that linked ROM... but what it says it has doesnt sound that great... also it makes 4g not work on your evo if you use it... so ... why even have an evo and be with sprint if you use that ROM.

we'll get more ports when we get a gingersense leak. That rom is so outdated haha virus new port based on the htc kingdom sounds like its going to be a huge success for the evo.
A bit of perspective
Although I can feel where you are coming from on the fading of interest I wanted to chime in here to relay my recent experience with the incredible and its devs. My wife and I both had eris phones and were both rooted and running custom roms. The phone unrooted is almost unbearably slow and painful. Rooted is much better but still the phone itself is just so antiquated. I pushed Verizon to up my upgrade date and recently got the Thunderbolt. My wife finally got fed up with the eris and her upgrade date was too far out to push up so I got her a used incredible locally for about $170. Now comes the part that blew me away. The guy I got it from had it stock and never rooted. I did the research and was, as i said blown away with the sheer simplicity of the rooting and clockwork recovery rom experience. Thats all aside from the beauty, speed, screen brightness, perfect size, and overall satisfaction of the phone. I truly almost prefer it over my thunderbolt. The rom factory may be slowing down but this phone is an amazing device overall and the devs that have put time into it are to be commended in the highest. I can only hope that cyanogen and the others make my thunderbolt as amazing of an experience.
cant wait for gingersense. running CM7 2.3.4 but miss sense.

I disagree. Several awesome ROMS are out there and it seems like we get another new ROM every week or so. Admittedly, some are more awesome than others, but development is defintely still on-going. That's the beauty of this device - it was so far ahead of it's time.

Windows is a non issue.. once you flash an android rom (w/ Linux kernel) the windows phone os doesnt matter as its just hardware at that point. Android rom uses the Linux kernel to communicate w/ hw.

I have noticed things are slowing down too. I got a Thunderbold day 1, which I love, no looking back for me, but my wife still has a Dinc, and I am always looking to update, it is currently running Myns Warm Z, not much else right now.
I am not sure it is slowing down so much as people are finding that what they have the love. I personally still flash a few roms every now and then but I always tend to go back to one... because It has the most of what I love. I think that always happens. I use to see this when I was running windows mobile htc 8125, people said that everything was slowing down but I think it is more the fact that you have know tried most of the ROMs. When I first got this phone I went through and flashed as many roms as I could. a few of them I am not going to try again until they get a few more levels up since I was not satisfied but there were a few that I really liked and I have flashed them when they come out with a new one. BUT I do always go back to my main rom.
So after all that I dont know if it is slowing down since I see new roms out every once in a while. I think that I just dont have the interest to flash them as often since I can say, I have already tried that. I will wait 3 more version before flashing that again...
You may have noticed that I didnt use one rom name since I do not want to discourage any ROM developer. They all do an "Incredible" job here no pun intended. Keep up the GREAT work and happy flashing.
SoBBie
I hear what you're saying, but there is still a lot of great work going on. The release of skyraider 4.0 was huge, and there are still a ton of roms being actively supported. Between CM7, MIUI, LiquidMetal, the z roms, and the stock sense roms, you can get just about any look you want.
It seems though, that most new ROM work, including ports, are the same old bases reworked with a twist. CM7 is nice, but doesn't have Sense.. The desireZ ports are nice, but still 2.2.. as with Skyraider.
I'm sure not knocking any devs work.. I use them and donate, just wish we had some new work coming our way... especially GingerSense!
I still see lots of development for the Inc. I am definitely really glad I got rid of my Fascinate for it two months ago.
Just my $.02
LOL, I'll have my ROM up and running soon... coming out of alpha soon...
Switched to Mytouch 4G for a month... and now I'm back.

I have to agree with you. My phone does everything i need it to. I just got my 1800mah battery a few days ago, so battery life is better. Also just installed v6 supercharger script and the phone is even more buttery smooth. Been checking out the sgs II forums and honestly nothing so far has made me want to change.
I do love my Vibrant.
I was bartending last night and a guy at the bar had a (stock) Sprint SGS2. I played with it for a while, and damn, it was smooth. It did make me feel slightly jealous.
I love mine but I want to change to a newer one.
But alas, I'm stuck here until I get money for a new one.
Im my country, the newest one we have is the SGSII and not only that thing is older than I'm comfortable with (the international version), but also costs 500+ ON CONTRACT.

can't say that i love it, but i think it'll last me another year. i dont see any reason to upgrade yet.
According to Phandroid.com, the Fascinate on Verizon is getting the Gingerbread Update!
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/01/samsung-fascinate-gingerbread-update-ready-to-roll/
Now T-mobile and Samsung, I have to ask, where is the Vibrant's update?
Galaxy S internatinoal got gingerbread.
Galaxy S 4G got gingerbread.
Captivate has gingerbread leaks.
Fascinate is getting gingerbread.
Vibrant Canada I think got gingerbread also.
So where is the T-mobile Vibrant Gingerbread????????????????????????
Might be more power full if posted in samsung website forum.
yea, post that there. Ive given up on GB anyway, custom roms are better anyway

Imagine how better they'd be with Gingerbread source.
Eh doesnt matter anymore. We got devs doing ics, in a week or two more it'll run flawlessly.
wait.. correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the fascinate the same hardware minus the modem (cdma)? if this is the case devs could just as easily rip all the files needed to complete our driver issues on GB. if not oh well.
I believe there is something different with the GPS drivers on the Vibrant, which is why we have so many great ROMs without very good GPS.
Seriously? Another rant about gb for the vibrant? Just flash an i9000 port, and stop complaining. Or get another phone. There are early builds of ics popping up already. the vibrant was one of the first to get an ics build actually....

I understand the need for GPS, but it's really a hit or miss with vibrants. I'll pretty sure i got the first run of units, so gps never really worked well for me, no matter what ROM I'm on.
Granted, if i use the gb bullet kernel, i can get a lock and even navigation, but it takes a while. I just use maps to give me directions, then follow them. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Everyone has a choice. Thats why I love Android and iOS. Both have their pros and cons. I am NOT a fanboy. I can point out both advantages for both platforms, and both have disadvantages.
I'm just glad this wasn't like 5 years ago where the only choice for a smartphone = iPhone. I did own a iPhone 3GS, jailbroke it, found nothing interesting to jailbreak except to pirate apps... which i pointless to me. I prefer android, it gives me a change. But again, opinions are opinions.
Tmoble already has the sgs 2 and the sgs 4g. Not to mention that the vibrant was discontinued months ago there's honestly no point in a business point of view updating a phone there not making any money on

And this is why we need source direct from samsung
CM DROPS VIBRANT SUPPORT DUE TO 911 INABILITY:
"We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code."
http://phandroid.com/2011/12/12/cya...le-galaxy-s-support-dropped-due-to-911-issue/
Now do you see why it is so important to have put pressure on Samsung/T-Mobile to release an update to Gingerbread? This is why! Developers are talented but they can't work miracles. We need source/drivers for proper 911 and GPS capabilities just to name a few.

yeah the LTE samsungs on sprint will be ICS or higher. There is a port in the works in the dev section thats getting support but its far from being useable.
I don't think we will get anything official, but we might get CM9 like we did CM7.
It doesn't say we won't get it. It says something like they'll announce other products that get it later. Don't get your hopes up, but don't count us out either.

Lol we're going to get CM9 buddy. We'll be officially supported by Cyanogenmod since now we have MTD like other Galaxy S variants.
I understand why you aren't in any way optimistic, however CM6 was discontinued due to it not being popular enough, CM7 is nearly finished, and it only took a long time since we weren't supported by Cyanogenmod and we didn't even have Gingerbread source until 2 months ago.
Now, I'm 95% sure our phone is picked up by Cyanogenmod and we will get official CM 7.2 as well as CM9.
When will that happen? Who knows? But we will get it, and I guarantee we will have at least an early build of CM9 in the coming months.
Don't lose faith
And OP: Did you actually expect our phone to get ICS? It took over a year to get Gingerbread after it's initial release, and I don't think Samsung will spend another year updating a phone that no one's going to have next year. We will get ports though, I'm sure of that. (WORKING Ports, that is. Not the one based off of the SDK)
You guys know the epic sucks major donkey balls on updates, why get yourself all worked up about something that will never happen? Just setting yourself up for disappointment. If you don't like it you have one of two options, use your phone as its built for (calls, texts, web) or buy a new phone just for an update.

If we get CM7 official, then we'll see CM9.
But,
ciwrl (CM team) said epic is slated for last because its full of nasty hacks. So who knows when...

No one was really expecting an official ICS for the Epic. By the time Samsprint would have gotten it to us we would all be on LTE phones so it doesn't matter.

Not all. I'm milking this pup as long as possible since I'm relatively rural and LTE will most likely be a late rollout.
Sent from my hoe. Forgive the typoes; it's an Epic.
Samsung change there minds again.. No ics or value pack....

[...] a Samsung spokesperson has said that the company will not offer the update due to the hardware specifications of the older Galaxy devices, in that they are limited to and fully optimised for the Gingerbread experience.[...]
Ha, ha ha, ha. They really claimed "fully optimised"? It took a lot of work to bring Gingerbread anywhere near stable, let alone "optimised". Also, isn't it optimized? Oh well, we never expected it in the first place, and even Gingerbread (broken as it was) was a surprise. If ICS is really wanted on the Epic, someone brighter than I will find a way to port it, I'm sure. At the same time, I'm quite happy with my phone.
Even if ICS came to the i9000 GSM Galaxy S, it would never ever come to the Epic 4G.
Why? We only have 512 MB of flash storage. ICS is big, and this would give us very little space for /data.
Fortunately, it is possible for us to work around this by putting /data on a SD card, but making the modifications for it would take time.
This is one of those things where MTD support is useful, since /system can now be resized.
