Hi @jenneh just wanted to say thanks for your commitment and that you contribute to the somewhat dusty nvidia area to keep alive.
The shield is such a cool device, what you could not do everything with it.
Unfortunately, I personally lack the time and the know-how to bring the whole thing something forward.

Thank You So Much Dear~! I completely understand the lack of time part, it's kind of what motivated me to start writing things down and figuring out ways to automate more and now I am working on the "delegate" part xD
I do agree that the shield is Really Neat! It's the perfect little android box, for myself at least, to play and learn to hack with.
Nvidia at Least Tries to make it easier to get Root than others but it still could be easier XD

I found out the Answer! I think this was a mis-spelled image and was actually supposed to be "dtb.img" If anyone else would like to learn more about what this dtb.img is for, see this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/learning-about-the-boot-img.4516537/
Well now I'm not so sure bc this article
Android Verified Boot (AVB) - postmarketOS
wiki.postmarketos.org
I don't know right now if dtb and dtbo.img are the same thing, all I know is it is related to AVB android verified boot which absolutely is engaged on both the STOCK and DEVELOPER firmwares. I will absolutely be back whenever I find out for sure what it all means

Praise the robots. ChatGPT was able to explain once and for all
I wasn't intentionally looking for this answer but it appeared. Finally. Haha.
Also, the robot told me how to turn the avb off. Will try that later but know that it is able to explain that if you would like to try

Big Thank you to all Contributors!

These devices right out of the box just don't seem ready for market. Whether its some draconian bootloader not letting one install the ROM he wants or tweaks and settings that arent right, out of the box they leave quite a bit to be desired.
But then i comes the people of this board. As i read through the extensive wiki and went through the process of flashing new ROMs on my Hermes I really came to appreaciate the MASSIVE amount of effort put in by this community in order to allow this PDA to really live up to its potential.
So thank you to all the contributors! I couldn't have even begun this process without your help.
i agreee with you
Me too. You folks are great!!!
ditto!
I would probably have sent this thing back were it not for sleuth255 and mikechannon and goestoeleven and others working on this forum.
fortunately htc has this free resource to fix their buggy phones.
i'm still eagerly awaiting the 8525 aku3.3 update. cingular had said it was due out by feb 1st, but here it isn't. maybe it will be soon. I still wake up with a locked up phone pretty often.
thanks to all of you that have helped make this feature rich thing useable.
wes
Thank you and I too like this community

I agree with all the accolades given. I looked on this board before I bought the phone so I was prepared for what it was not when it came. I had also downloaded all the goodies and was ready to make it the way I wanted it. But since then, more and more things were discovered and shared. Right now, this phone is almost just right. There are a couple of things I am waiting for the new ROM to resolve, but it is currently the best device I have had yet.
As soon as a better toy comes out, I will quickly jump ship and take that one, but only if it has the kind of support this forum gives.

What is a Brick?

Something i've been seeing around the forums a lot is people defining their phone as "bricked." Please realize what a brick actually is.
In the strictest sense of the term, bricking must imply that software error has rendered the device completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement.

When your phone can't boot into recovery, has a little image of a "phone -> pc", or whatever it may be... this does not indicate a brick, rather just a software malfunction and for the most part, recoverable.
I wanted to make sure people that are new to phone mods and such are aware of what an actual brick is, rather then reading the confusing posts about "omg is my phone bricked!?!?".
For anyone that is new, i hope this clears things up for you a bit. For more information you can read up on it from this link:

Didn't see it Oh well, never hurts to have more tho rofl considering even after that post I still see more and more posts to this day
Talltex, LOL I was wondering when someone was going to do that, made my day thanks

Just a thought

What is it with some of the owners, and developers of the MT3G? Seems in every active thread that we have people bickering, and nit picking each other. I don't know if this is going on in the other forums, but really is it called for? This phone already has a lack of development. The damn G1 gets more attention fro developers than our phone and that is about a 3 year year old phone.
I appreciate all the developers that work on our phones trying to keep those of us without the funds to buy a new phone busy with new ROMS, Themes, Ports and whatever else.
I agree, and patience is a virtue... which nobody has evidently.
I appreciate everything that the devs and other members do here, I'm not smart enough (Yet) to do my own deving so I'll be happy with whatever anyone puts out with no *****ing or complaning.
What ever happened to respect?
When the G1 dropped I was one of the first couple thousand owners shipped, I was rooted the day I found this site, and flashed a new ROM every freaking day it seemed. There was a fury of activity over there, and even there was a little bit of this going on. But then it was more so noobs not reading and asking questions and bugging the developers. We lost a couple great developers from those beginning days, but also spawned new talent.
We all have a common goal here. To push our phones beyond anything the manufacture thought possible (look at what the G1 is doing) But it seems all we are doing is trying to knock each other down.
I wish I had the time to rehash some of the programming skills I have lost over the last couple of years due to the closing of my computer and the opening of a HVAC company. Sense that is not an option I rely on the developers here.
I would love to see this phone brought back to life.
Just to add to this, if you ever see a post you are not happy with, or is what you believe to be nit-picking, flaming, trolling, abusive, rude etc... Use the report a post button and it will be flagged for me or a senior moderator to deal with.
For those of you who don't know what the report button looks like.

Okay, since no one on XDA knows how to operate the search function or even read a thread on the first pages of General or Android Development that they post in, I'll make this tutorial.
1. Click this button:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Type in what you think is a useful post:
3. Check the threads that result.
4. If they don't pertain to what you want to talk about, then make a post. Might want to do a few searches.
5. If search is down, at least look past the first thread.
For the love of God, please do not make any more HC threads.
The Nook Color has a very ghetto-rigged version of HC that barely works. We don't have it because the AOSP hasn't been released and the boot.img hasn't been grabbed from the Xoom (more important than the system dump). Another issue is Nvidia hasn't released the Tegra 2 proprietary libraries.
No one on XDA knows how to read apparently. Just a few threads for HC:

Really? 14 threads in General about HC and 2 threads in Android Development (not counting deleted/moved threads).
If you don't want to be flamed here, don't post things that have been posted.
P.S. Sorry to go all out on you, but I and many others have gotten tired of sifting through all this clutter.
Ugh... Nevermind.

Thanks for seeking to be involved. I am sure that TheJesus (non-deity for sure) meant no ill will.
Search can be daunting to say the least as it's not very intuitive - I do know that some changes are in the works for searching at an undetermined time...
Closing this thread to stop flaming.

Good move on putting yourself out there, but may I add something? If you're looking for work, paid or otherwise, don't limit yourself. By asking for only "ROMs or threads that are well known or have some decent amount of views/users", you're setting yourself up to fail. I can almost guarantee you that any large development project already has it's graphic taken care of. Instead, why not offer your services to smaller/less known devs? Not only is this good because a) you actually stand a chance of finding work, but also b) because, whether we like to admit it or not, we as people are shallow; we base things off the face value. We do judge books by their covers, both consciously and subconsciously. You can have the best ROM in all the lands, partnered with the fastest, smoothest kernel that delivers crazy battery life, but if you've got banners, etc. done up in MS Paint, you're guaranteed to instantly lose a tonne of potential users.
I can't tell you how many times I've left a thread thirty seconds after viewing it, because the banners, logos, text, and everything is simply downright hideous. If reflects, if you can't even bother to make your work look good, what does that say about your effort in your development? At the same time, I've tried a lot of different ROMs, kernels and apps simply based off their looks/screenshots/logos, etc..
Try to get over who you want to work for, and start thinking about who would accept your work.
