Fire HD 10 (11th gen) how to read / play from USB stick - Fire General

On Fire HD 10 it is possible to play movie /transfer files etc. from a stick using the following combination (i am sure others are possible but this works for me). I did this after using the Fire Toolbox .
1) On Fire HD: a) Enable developer mode (find out how to do this on amazon or youtube). b) Open developer options. Open "Default USB configuration" (located in Networking). c) Activate "file transfer".
2) Connect your USB via a USB C to USB A cable with on-the-go functionality (OTG) [i am using a "USB C to Dual USB OTG" from Roxeley since this enables charging and file transfer, or file transfer from two different USBs; you can also choose a cable with USB 3.0 functionality in both ends or a cable with more splits]. When you connect the OTG cable, a USB icon will appear in the top left corner.
3) Download a suitable media browser / player [i am using VLC media player].
4) When you have the OTG cable connected with a USB you can see your files by choosing "explore". Activate the file / folder and slecet the files you want to play. [in my setup this means that VLC player is used].

Connecting via ActiveSync or as Disk Drive (upon connecting USB cable)

Realized that in my Touch Pro I was given an option to connect via ActiveSync or as a Disk Drive when I plugged in my USB cable. However that ain't the case for the X1. Apparently I gotta go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC -> Disk Drive and select it there (before I plug in the cable). Any way (or any app to install) such that I can be given the option to select when I plug in my cable?
I made a program shortcut on the Xperiapanel to /Windows/USBtoPC.exe to bring it up faster without going through the menus. Still have to do it manually though

[Q] Kindle Fire USB Port work with External Hard Drive?

Can anyone with a kindle fire confirm whether or not a USB External HDD containing various data could be directly connected for Video / Music / Picture / Documents? (with adapter of course)
The kindle seems great, but aside from the usual "connect it to your computer for mass storage" I haven't yet found an answer to this question.
If not, how successful have people been with streaming video from a HDD connected to a wireless router to the kindle fire?
I dont believe this has "USB Host" ability. And with the current stock rom I would highly doubt it is even possible if it were there.

Gen9 Full Size USB Slot - Thoughts

Hi Folks
I've been playing around with a 101 Gen9 and in particular the Full Size USB Slot on the back.
On the Archos WebSite in the FAQ they state:
What can I plug in the USB port on the back of the tablet?
The USB host port on the back of your G9 tablet is reserved for only the ARCHOS G9 3G Stick. You will not be able to plug any other USB devices in this port.
Click to collapse
I have been doing some of my own testing on this port and found that not to be the case
Every device I plugged into it has worked in one way or another (very much another in some cases)
1. The tablet has been rooted using letma's method.
2. You need to turn on the "3G Stick" in the Wireless Settings
3. The tablet Was Plugged In
On point 3. I have no idea how the battery was doing. especially with some of the more power hungry usb devices.
Here's a list of what I've tested
Not Working:
Keyboard (USB 1.1)
Working:
Kingston Data Traveller II+ (USB 2.0) - Picked up as external storage
HTC Hero Mass Storage
HTC Debug Bridge (Required Root for adb)
HTC Sensation Mass Storage
HTC Sensation Debug Bridge (Required Root for adb)
4 Port HUB (USB 2.0)
A Couple of observations.
After turning the 3G Stick on I restarted the device
I had to plug the USB devices while the tablet was starting for it to be picked up.
The Keyboard worked when plugged into the 4 Port USB Hub. I think the keyboard will function on its own with the right kernel modules
No Device showed up as The "External Storage" in the "Files" program when plugged into the Hub, even though I mounted the device (/dev/block/sd*) from terminal emulator to the /mnt/ext_storage folder.I suspect it is looking for a specific USB device number as the external storage device.
I suppose it would be good if some other people to test what USB devices they have to hand to see what works, maybe we could build a list of functioning devices. I'm going to investigate getting the Keyboard going on it's own, which is what sparked this off and also test some external hard drives with various file systems.
I hope someone finds this helpful

For me the usb stick and hard drive is working on the stock archos firmware without reboot!

USB OTG adapter -- Do I need a helper app?

Using a USB 3.1 type-c M to USB 3.0 A-F adapter do I need a helper app for OTG?
Where does Nougat put the mount on it's own? When I put a exfat formated
sandisk flash drive on it, it is detected (settings / storage see's it)
but I don't know where it put it? Do I need something like stickmount?
Thanks
The adapter is:
iXCC USB Type C to USB 3.0 Type A Adapter, Charge and Sync Cable, On The Go (OTG Host Cable) for Type-C Supported Devices (6 Inch)

Not quite the same thing but I use a Flash Drive with one side as USB C; when I plug it in it gives me a notification of "checking for errors" then after that it gives the name of the drive and "For transferring photos and media". I simply tap on that notification and it opens the drive with the built-in explorer that it also uses for downloads, I hope that helps!

USB connection not detected by Windows 10

Can anyone suggest how to make windows 10 recognize the phone when connected via USB cable?
Latest official android version and USB debugging enabled.
Which cable are you using for connection to the computer? the cable that comes with the phone is for charging only, you'll need a data cable for connection.
Some users have reported issues when flashing or sideloading using a USB 2.0 cable. The cable included with PH-1 is USB 2.0 and is primarily intended for charging. If you're flashing or sideloading PH-1, we recommend using a high-quality, spec-compliant USB 3.0 (or higher) cable.
ive used both 2.0 and 3.0, but never the 3.1 USB C style. never had an issue, but some of the cables look premium and are cheap crap that connect and disconnect on a whim because the pins arent contacting unless the cable is perfectly straight
I'm using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5KL10L/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is supposed to be a data cable and looks pretty decent.
Are any special drivers required ? ( I have installed the USB driver found on the Essential support page but no dice)
I have those same cables, they are a bit touchy when it comes to staying connected especially in a USB 2.0 port. Make sure you're using a 3.0 port and once it connects, don't move it much. Not a great solution I know but what can you do.
I tend to leave Device Manager open when I install new hardware. It often helps understand the sequence of things. Do you hear the Windows Device Connected Sound? If nothing is showing up there, it's the USB cable
Well.. I got my phone last Wednesday and I just got the issue when I got USB3.0 to USB C cable last Friday. (my main PCs do not have USB-C port)
The symptom is;
connecting USB cable and change connection mode to "file transfer" or MTP, it looked going to connect, but actually failed or disconnected when I tried browse the device or copy files.
After few research, I could resolve the issue.
Here are the what I did.
First, I have to download and install USB driver from Essential home page. (check "Essential Developers" page. I cannot add link here yet because I'm newbie here.)
Second, Now I got connection, but still the connection was unstable especially when I copied big files (about 200~300MB or more). The issue could be resolved after turning on "Disable USB audio routing" option in "Developer Options". (You should enable the "Developer Options" first)
Third, Now I have no problem on Windows PC connection, but I got a problem with Ubuntu 16.04. And I have found the it happens only when I connect it via USB hub. After connecting to PC directly, the issue has gone.
I have no problem on USB connection with my PCs now.
